Came here on a Thursday morning before work to get a variety for my coworkers. The service was fast and the people were great. I asked for a few maple bacon ones but told them to mix up the rest. The best part of duck donuts is that they are made to order and they are cake donuts! Which I love! If you're not a fan of cake style donuts, then this may not be for you. Avoid this location!!!! My family & I went to this location this morning. The customer service is completely null & void. We walked in, everyone turned around & I looked at us if we didn't belong. Strike 1. Then we get to the counter & it's the same thing! No one speaks or says good morning just looks at us waiting for us to order. My fiancé wanted to turn around but I begged him to stay for the reputation of the donuts. It was my first time at the franchise & wanted to try it. Finally the order is complete after the older employer took her mask down with her gloves on every time she spoke. The donuts come out in ample time & are nice & hot. But then after waiting quite a few minutes .... Not to mention we're the only customers in the location. Maybe we should have taken the hint.... The employee who was taking the orders is now making the drinks with the same gloves that were just under her nose to pull her mask down comes from the behind the counter to ask my fiancé how much almond milk HE wants in his drink that he ordered from THEIR menu. Finally the drinks come out & his cup is half full so he goes back & asks for more almond milk & she tries to pass him the container to pour it himself. How many peoples hands have been on that container? I digress. This location needs a total customer service facelift from corporate. We spoke with the supervision on duty who cares just as little as her employees & then refused to provide her GM's information. I understand it's the new year, people are hung over etc but you knew you had to work as early as you had to so act accordingly. I personally will not be spending any more money at Duck Donuts! Hot, fresh, delicious, made to order these donuts were fabulous!!! Even plain they were really tasty. We came in on a Sunday after church and there was no wait and the staff were friendly and filled our order fast. I like that you can watch them make the donuts and add the toppings to your donuts. There's even a little ledge for kids to stand and watch as well. They have free water at the donut counter which is nice. The only reason to take away a star is that there is no seating area to enjoy your creations, just a small window seating area with just a few bar stools. Luckily my toddler was cooperative and didn't mind waiting until we got home to eat the donuts. This place is a must try! And they have a military discount which is never expected but always appreciated. read more

Im a huge donut fanatic and was stoked to try this place but was super disappointed. The girl at the counter taking our order didn't say two words to me or smile but instead stared blankly at me. Both mine and my moms donuts were super over cooked and really chewy. They tasted like burnt fried oil. I never pass up a donut but didn't even want to finish mine cause it tasted that bad. I probably love Duck Donuts way too much. Choosing your own glazes/toppings combination yields both classic and interesting results that are all delicious. If you're not that creative like me, though, they suggest superb combinations. It's pricey compared to the ultimate Shoppers grocery store donuts, but they are very rich, filling and they don't skimp on toppings. We knew Duck Donuts from visiting them in Duck, North Carolina and were so excited to see one open up in Alexandria. Despite a fairly slow line even when it doesn't appear very busy, the donuts are absolutely delicious. The dough itself is what really seems to set these donuts apart from the rest. It also doesn't hurt that the donuts seem to be significantly cheaper here than nearby donut shops. We will definitely be frequent visitors!! read more

The donuts were delicious, they were nice and moist and the topping combinations tasted like heaven. They don't have my favorite Bavarian Creme donut, but I still gave this place a 5 star review because their donuts are better than I've had in a very long time. The donuts may be awesome, but after going in 3 separate times, paying for a single donut, then waiting 2, 5, 10, 15 minutes I've always had to leave before my donut was ready. While a fresh custom donut sounds great, the process is so inefficient. All of the staff was working to fill larger orders, so while I was there dozens of donuts were made, they were just all for one or two guests, while several people waiting for individual donuts were left waiting. It seems that one staff member could fill some of the small orders, so it wouldn't take 20+ minutes for a single donut. read more

This was my second time at a Duck Donuts, the first was in Hilton Head, SC. And what a wonderful experience that was. This time not so much. The doughnut it self was fine. The coffee...sucked. It tasted as if had been sitting on the burner for hours. Bombay water at best. I came in for the maple bacon glazed doughnut and was satisfied with it. I also wanted wanted a tee shirt for a friend. There were three on the display rack. That being said there was enough space for at least fifty tee shirts and yet only three were displayed. All size small and all three the same color. When I inquired about other sizes and colors the young lady behind the counter stated that she really didn't know that they sold shirts. So when I pointed to the display she stated that those three were always there. I asked if they might have a XL and if so what colors they may have. The young lady asked another co-worker who said they had green shirts. I asked if it was dark green- yes she replied and went to the back and retrieved a lime green, size large. Not what I asked for. Oh well. Truth be told I really came for a tee shirt. Left with a decent doughnut a lousy cup of coffee and the reaffirmation that today's millennials have no sense of urgency or work ethic. By the way...you need to empty the trash cans when they are full. No wonder the place was slow on a Sunday at eleven in the morning. The donuts are great. The weekend staffing is not. Two Saturdays out of the last three, the store has had one person working at opening. I feel bad for this young woman, as customers are waiting at 7am and she can't take orders and make the donuts at the same time. The donuts are easily a 5. Nothing better than warm, made-to-order donuts, and they have some amazing combos. But the logistics need work. The waits can be ridiculous due to all the customization and how much longer the "making" takes compared to the ordering. Things back up quickly. Seems like an online ordering system that groups donuts with the same glazed would be a good start. Two prep stations--one for counter orders and one for online--would likely help those waiting in person, and (hopefully) give the online folks a realistic timeline on their fresh, warm donuts. Agree with other reviewers that unless you have an entire morning and lots of patience devoted to obtaining them, this is not the place for you. Have been in several times and really wanted to believe that this was due to the learning curve in a new location or difficulty getting good help but things continue to decline. Showed up an hour after opening time this morning only to be met by a locked door and a young man inside making waving gestures from the back of the store. No sign saying why they were still closed or an apology for the inconvenience. Just waving of hands from the inside encouraging me to leave. I did. It's a shame. I like duck donuts just not this location. I've been here twice, during weekday mornings and they are consistently understaffed. I asked for two half dozens and had to stop the guy from putting them on one box. Tried to explain I was giving them to two separate groups of people. The line takes forever, there is one slow moving working making donuts sometimes (in between making coffee and walking in the back) and another mopping floors while there is a line out the door! This place is sloooow. Staff is not prepared to deal with customers at all. They are only taking cash today, not sure about other days, but that's ridiculous. Nobody carries cash these days. And the sign about the cash only is at the register. Really? Why not post it on the door so people know ahead of time and can get cash or decide not to get the donuts. Terrible!! read more

Visiting from out of town and decided to get donuts and some breakfast sandwiches from this establishment. Ordered online and it told me it would take about 34 minutes for 3 breakfast sandwiches and an assortment of donuts for pickup. Which was fine, we weren't in a hurry. When we got there our donuts were ready and when asked about the sandwiches the girl told us that they were making them on the back. We waited about 45 for our sandwiches in which no one checked on us and avoided eye contact. I finally had to ask again about our sandwiches. I'm not sure if it was the owner but a man finally talked to me and told me that it was the cashier's first day and she put the receipt in the wrong basket. We've all been there, first day on the job, so I can understand that. What I can't understand is why we stood there for 45 minutes with no help. They almost went out of their way to avoid us. No refund, only a coupon which will not be used. Donuts and sandwiches tasted good but service lacked completely. read more
