I can make this one a shorter and no pun intended... sweeter review than others. I love Duck Donuts and this store has just as tasty doughnuts as the Kitty Hawk location. What I do not care for is that the order/pick-up is separated, maybe just me. If not for this the location is really cool with a lot of decking and just off my big hang out of the Duck Boardwalk. Parking is more hectic during the season because it is central Duck. One of the best thing this location has is seating albeit outside. It also offers a beautiful view of the sound and just off Duck Boardwalk where you can walk those calories away. If you have never experienced a Duck Donut than do it and thank me later. I rarely eat donuts unless I'm starving and there's no other options. I've just never been a big fan. Duck Donuts are the exception. Every flavor that I sampled was divine! I especially loved the French Toast donut and the Maple Bacon donut! I realize it sounds weird to put bacon on a donut, but it's delicious. Trust me. It's not preserved bacon bits either. It's fresh bits of real bacon. I like that the donuts are made to order, versus sitting in a display case all day. The donuts are served fresh and hot and it sets them apart from the other donut shops. Duck Donuts has an interesting setup. It is comprised of two shops located across from each other at the plaza on the water in Duck, NC. The first shop has a gift shop and an ordering station. You might wonder why you'd want to buy gifts from a donut shop, however, the Duck Donuts shirts and towels are so adorable. Everyone I was traveling with ended up buying a shirt or a hoodie. I also bought a 4-foot pool inner tube shaped and decorated like a donut with sprinkles (one of life's necessities). The donuts appear to be made with a cake batter so they are all the same just different toppings or frosting. They are made after you order so they are hot. I also thought that at about $2.25 each they were overpriced. I won't be going out of my way to get them. read more

Be sure to walk in on the door to your left first to order, then go across the boardwalk to pick up your order. This shop has ordering down to a science (think sushi menu style) and a "bucket" is an order of 18 doughnuts. There are twelve listed customer favorites that you can choose from or make your own combo. We ordered a bucket for our party of 15 customer favorites to take back to the rental home, and they didn't last long! All of the doughnuts are warm and fresh, and they were ready promptly. I seriously am craving them as I write about them!! This is a must-try if you even halfway care for doughnuts. When in Duck, you gotta go to Duck Donuts. Went there late afternoon on a Saturday, and they weren't too busy. The location occupies spaces in two buildings facing each other. You order from one side, and get the donuts from the other building. Unlike other donut shops, Duck Donuts are made to order. This means there will be a wait, but on the other hand you get guaranteed fresh warm (hot) donuts made right in front of you. The base donut is the same (a light cake donut), but there is a long list of toppings. Duck Donuts is a fun part of the vacation experience and the volume of people to get donuts is amazing in July. I used their online ordering which informed me it would be two days before they could fill my order. This was fine as we planned ahead and the site made it easy for us to customize our donuts and pick up was easy as everything was pre-paid and ready on time. People who ordered in person waited a significant amount of time for their orders made on that day and I was glad to have the online option. This was a good donut. They are open 6:30 AM - 1:30 PM daily and even at a non-breakfast hour, its pretty packed. The ordering process is split between two locations. You go to the store on the left to order, get coffee (also pretty good) and check out the menu. While there are some combos that are customer favorites, you can make your own mix. All orders are made to order. My husband and I decided to just try the 1 - Maple Bacon. This was delicious!
