They've got quite the operation here. Order on one side, pick up on the other side. Lots of cute merch on the order side too. So many options, it could be overwhelming. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Fun for the kids to watch the donuts get cooked and decorated on the pick-up side.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Pretty efficient system and service and not a very long wait. Love the S'mores, Blueberry Streusel, Peach Cobbler, and Oreo. Def more of a denser, cakey donut and they may fall apart when you eat them fresh out of the fryer. Def the opposite of a Krispy Crème (light and airy) donut so if you like them heavy and cakey, you'll love these donuts

Lets start with the fact that they shorted us 1 of the donuts we ordered. None of the woman fixing the donuts had their shirts ducked in, so as they worked on fixing a Doughnut their dirty disgusting t shirt would drag over a previous made donuts in our order. This is serious health violation and I can't believe I am the only one that has noticed. I ended up microwaving the donuts hoping to kill any germs left during the preparation. My maple bacon Doughnut was good, but the wife thought her donuts were just average. We won't be going back.

First time going here, and with friends who have worked at Duck donuts before. Rudest experience, and no care for severe peanut allergy. We had the pleasure of getting our order done my Heather N. who greeted the guest before us pleasantly "Good morning what can I get for you all?" and then us, a group of 4 girls, with "I'll take whoever's next" with an agitated tone. My friend, who worked there before, prefaced we had a person in our group that had a severe peanut allergy so that when ordering the fan favorite, we could have the peanut ones substituted. Thinking that was a simple ask, Heather then asked my friend to read them off one by one because she in her words "I don't know all the donuts on the menu". My friend then started to list off the donuts. She then said "slow down honey" my friend showed down, then "your going too fast" my friend slowed down even more. At some point Heather decided to take the menu from my friend, then to make it straitened out slammed it in the counter, I think to show how annoyed she was with us. We ask for a second dozen and she then does the same thing. My friends say again, nothing with peanuts because of the allergy. And we complete our order. We head over to the pick up area and then double check the receipt to make sure there's nothing with peanuts butter on it. There was in fact a donut with peanut butter in there. We went up to the ones preparing the donuts and they actually had it done, which was amazing but we had to ask for the one dozen to be redone. As someone who was really looking forward to trying my friend's favorite donut place, this truly was a disappointment.

Duck Donuts can be found in several cities and locations now, but it is still cool to go to the original in Duck. The selections can be kind of overwhelming. We went with the party pack and they were all delicious. The employees were really helpful and friendly.

I'm so glad we stopped here on vacation! The staff was very friendly. Went to the location in Duck, NC in OBX. You order from a kiosk or a staff member. If you know what you want, use the kiosk. If it's your first time or have questions, order from the staff. Then you go back outside across the deck to pick up your order which they will call you by number. This is to help with the flow when they are very busy. Be ready for a sugar rush. When I got into my 3rd donut my face started to tingle. If you are visiting OBX they have several locations to choose from, you got to try it at least once. In my photos here is what I got. Staying in Nags Head but made the northward pilgrimage this morning to the original Duck's location. Really glad I did. Duck, NC is a bird sanctuary, no fireworks allowed, and is an incredibly charming place. You order and get your coffee/merch in one location, then walk a few steps into another building where there's nothing but the glorious production of donuts made to your specifications and served warm and fresh, right out of the fryer. The lady at the order counter was friendly and helpful, while the donut makers were less talkative, focusing diligently on their craft. I can respect that. Be sure to take a stroll on the connected boardwalk to take in the many great neighboring shops/restaurants and the gorgeous vistas of Currituck Sound.

Had to try the original Duck donuts. Get there early, place gets crowded by 8 or 830.. Every donut choice is good. Had the s'more donut and a maple bacon donut which were fantastic. Cake Donuts here. Just understand that before you expect a "Dunkin Donuts" type donut. And yes, like everybody says these donuts are greasy, but good! Odds are your on vacation and not worrying about watching your weight. Lots of choices of flavors. Warning donuts will be very hot, because they are very fresh. read more

This is my first vacation to OBX and everyone said that I had to try duck donuts. I've been there 3 times within a week. Great customer service and very clean. Even though they are busy sometimes, they are always quick. I've never tasted a donut that fresh and gooey. So mouthwatering read more

Donuts are made fresh in front of you!! They are a heavier, cake donuts as stated in other reviews, but the real treat are the number of different options. From powdered sugar to a peanut butter donut, they'll have something for everyone's taste. Yum! :) read more

Donuts from Heaven could also be used to name this place. All the donuts are made to order, you can make your selection of icing and toppings. I had to have a maple icing one topped with bacon, why not? My kids enjoyed being able to order theirs and go over to see them being made fresh and hot. Good coffee and a nice outdoor seating area make this a place not to miss at least once on your trip to OBX. read more

What a neat idea! The donut shop makes your orders based on a slew of options to your liking. You get to pick from about ten choices in each category, the categories being the base icing, topping icing, and topping (such as glazed donut with vanilla icing and raspberry drizzle). The donuts are about the size of an adult palm and very delicious. My family and I ended up going there twice! Way better than dunken donuts and Krispy Kreme read more

Actually 3 1/2 stars...Unique perspective in creating individual donuts but the long wait in a tiny room during the morning hours takes away from the enjoyment. They are expanding beyond just Duck, NC so family disappointed that it isn't just a "Duck" experience anymore. I went with the 2 dozen bucket (baker's choice) and those still sleeping at home were happy. Noticed they have an online service so next time around I'll order online and THEN go pick them up. Hope to avoid waiting 1/2 hour in cramped quarters. If you like fresh donuts, can't beat the taste but the process and location could use an upgrade. read more

Every time we come to Duck, we HAVE to stop at Duck Donuts. It is a little bit of a wait to get them, but they are fresh and warm and oh so delicious! Totally worth it! Only suggestion is to get a deli counter type number counter so it is easier for the crowds waiting outside to know when their number is up. read more

My family had vacationed in Duck for basically my entire life. I've been going to Duck Donuts at LEAST once or twice a week every summer. It's really one of our favorite stops during vacation. Their donuts are hot, tasty, and they are finished pretty quick considering the number of customers during the busy months. I will forever be a Duck Donuts fan! read more

What a find Duck Donuts was. Too bad we found 'em at the end of our vacation. Duck Donuts offers made-to-order fry cakes where they cook up the donuts right in front of you and then add the frosting and toppings you request. Feeling uncreative (as I was early in the morning)? Just ask the friendly staff to help you choose. (Oh yeah, free samples too - so you'll want to be the guy who does the donut run.) The only negative I suppose would be that they don't offer filled donuts or things like apple fritters. But that's OK for me, I like the fry cakes anyway. read more

Wow. These are even better then the reviews stated. The Duck shop is tiny - the line really does stretch out the door. These are fresh, warm and delicious. My favorites were the powdered sugar and the cinnamon sugar. Because they are fried they come out tasting like an elephant ear. My spouse's favorite was the chocolate covered with coconut. I know the price is a little high for donuts, but it is so worth it. These are the best donuts I have ever had. They still taste just as good when they are cooled down. We actually stopped again at a different location and got a half dozen. Well worth stopping in. The only thing we did not like about this store is that they workers do not wash their hands between ringing stuff at the cash register and dipping the donuts. read more

Good donuts, if your donut is fresh and if they get your order right. Over the course of a week, my extended family placed 10 separate orders at the shop, filling out their little order forms as requested. In all 10 cases there was mistake in the donuts we got (i.e. ordered vanilla frosting with chocolate sprinkles, got vanilla with no sprinkles or vanilla with rainbow sprinkles). That is a 0% success rate. The type of sprinkles or glaze is not a huge deal but why is it so hard for them to get it right? When we would politely point out the errors they acted annoyed and often made rude comments. There is no need for that. The donuts, when warm and fresh, are remarkable but they have a long way to go in operations. read more

The Fish & Chips were among the best I've ever had. I'm very picky about slaw, and this was perfect. More pickly than sweet. We did see young children in a party, but I would not say this is a great family-friendly option.

There was a subtle amaretto flavoring, but a big cherry in my scoop had plenty of the amaretto flavoring. It was an interesting flavor that was satisfying. I also tried the brownie wave. I usually do not like brownie pieces in ice cream, but I did enjoy this one. Without the brownie pieces, it was just a light chocolate flavor. Will I go back? Yes.

Duck Donuts was the highlight of our beach house trip! We indulged in the "Bacon In The Sun," a glorious creation with maple icing, chopped bacon, and a salted caramel drizzle--sweet, savory, and utterly irresistible. We also enjoyed the classic Chocolate Glaze Donut, which was delicious especially when its warm. Each donut is made fresh to order, and even though we arrived around 7:30am and the place got busy, the line moved quickly. The service was top-notch, and watching the staff whip up our hot, fresh donuts was part of the fun. Poor customer service. "because of the shortage customers must buy bottle water even if they only need a cup of water". What's the shortage why are employees drinking water from a cup. Did they bring their own cup? Smh. Poor customer service for a new store Pinecrest Beachwood Ohio. I don't need this aggravation so early. We're from the North East, where Dunkin Donuts reigns, but this place tops them all. Warm, made-to-order donuts are hard to beat. My favorite was the maple glaze, bacon topping and salted caramel drizzle. Stop here at least once during your stay! read more
