The delicious flavor was as good as the smell predicted, and the texture added to the experience. In fact, the people there got my orders right every time. This is clearly organized with an attention to detail. It doesn't take long to wait for my donuts either. I got all sorts of great custom donuts. I started with a cinnamon sugar donut with a salted caramel drizzle. These mixed amazingly well with each other. I also had a maple chocolate donut that had maple icing and chocolate pieces. I opted for a vanilla icing donut with well-placed Oreo crumbles all around. I also got a lemon icing donut with chocolate and coconut bits sprinkled all around. The toppings were made carefully and ground up well to cover the entire donut without one side being favored. The toppings didn't fall off easily either. Finally, I ordered a blueberry iced donut with a raspberry drizzle. The drizzle parts were arranged in stripes and covered the entire body of the donut. This created a great flavor that I loved enjoying. What About Drinks? There were plenty of good coffee and iced tea options here. There were some bottled sodas, juices, sports drinks and milk here too. My experience at Duck Donuts was certainly great for how it offered plenty of donut options for me to choose from. I used to be a big fan of this chain when they just opened. After many visits with inconsistent donuts, it changed my mind about this place. My favorite combination was the maple glazed donut with bacon. Sometimes it's overloaded with bacon, other times there are only a few pieces scattered. My second favorite is the regular glazed donut. Plain and simple. It's usually good when it's being consumed there. It usually has this crisp when you bite into it and the donut itself is soft and melt in your mouth. However, during my most recent visit, I ordered two regular glazed donuts and they both weren't what I expected. Not only they weren't crispy but it felt sticky every bite I took. All these times I was shopping at H-Mart, I had no idea this place was in same shopping center. The other day as I was leaving H-Mart, I happen to drive pass by and saw a long line of people waiting inside, so I checked it out. First thing that hits you as you open the door is the unmistakable aroma of fried dough good enough to fire up your pavlovian response. The place itself is very unassuming but what they lack in decor they make it up 10 folds in the taste department. I love that they fry the donuts as you order them so when you're ready to eat they're still warm and fresh. And all the toppings! There are so many combinations of toppings that could almost cripple you in your decisions. I don't know if I have a favorite yet but bacon topped chocolate glaze has to be one of them. We have loved visiting the store prior to the COVID19 outbreak... great food, great service! Now we order delivery via their website, which somehow then connects to a third party delivery service (which happened to be Postmates for our order). I placed the order last night for delivery this morning at 845am. The order arrived at 945am, cold. Not just room temperature, but cold. After the delivery fee, which is 35% the cost of the food (our food total was $32 and the delivery fee was $12), I was expecting more. The kids were hungry and crying, we were annoyed at the quality of food, and the owner was trying to be helpful but there was not really anything he could do at the moment. We notified Postmates but they can't "rectify the situation" because the order was placed via the Duck Donuts website and not the Postmates app. If the website is going to allow for delivery there should be some accountability somewhere for orders that arrive an hour late and are cold. On May 30, 2020 I was racially profiled at this Duck Donuts location. Initially I decided that I wouldn't write about this but given the state of this world and the systematic racism that people of color experience, particularly African American people, I couldn't keep quiet any longer. I am an African American women with natural hair. I entered this location on Saturday at 3:55pm and waited to be served. There were two other customers ahead of me. As I continued to wait an employee by the name of Stephanie told me that the store closed at 2:00 and were no longer taking orders. I immediately looked at my watch and noticed that it was closer to 4pm and customers were still in the store. I proceeded to ask did those customers call in their order ahead of time and was just arriving to pick up the order and she said yes. As I walked out the store I noticed one of the customers was parked next to me. Out of curiosity I asked if they preordered their donuts and they told me they just walked in, placed their order and received their donuts. I then went back to the store but the door was now locked. I knocked on the door and another employee told me they actually closed at 4pm. I immediately asked for the managers name and number to discuss the inconsistencies from the employees. I was referred to the owner Keith and he assured me that he would handle this situation and he would also send a gift card. Btw, I only asked for an apology from the employee. As of today August 5, 2020 I have received nothing and to be honest there is nothing he can say or do to make this right. Keith, you cannot buy my silence with a gift card for donuts.
