I may or may not have already gone here 3 days in a row in order to maximize the number of flavor combinations I could try. They manage high volume with ease meaning that you are in and out in less time than Starbucks. This has been on my list of things to try for quite some time now and we finally made it here. They definitely did NOT disappoint. We got here a little before closing time. The staff was extremely helpful. They gave us an ordering sheet to make things easier. I like how you can customize the donuts to your liking. You choose the icing and topping. The best value is the 18 donut special. We got all the donuts offered on the sheet and added the topping so we could try all the icing flavors. Last week my coworkers brought Duck Donuts into the office. Gone in 60 seconds. This week, I followed suit and brought Duck Donuts to a friend's dog's half birthday party (yes, that is a real event and it was lots of fun). Also gone in 60 seconds. THESE DONUTS ARE SO GOOD. Favorites are the blueberry and lemon glaze. The Fairfax location is conveniently located right off of 29/Lee Hwy. Can't miss it. I walked in, ordered a dozen donuts, and watched them made fresh to order. The service is fast and there are plenty of spots to sit while you wait for your donuts (not like the wait is long or anything). Seamless and swift process. The staff is very friendly and efficient. They seriously need to hire a flow or queuing consultant. It's pretty annoying standing there in a crowd of strangers. There is no flow, no queuing, disorganized and inefficient. You walk into a mass of people and you have to ask everyone if they're in line to order or if they're waiting on donuts. There's no accommodations for people to wait. There's 6 chairs and two tables inside, 3-4 chairs outside. If people are dining in, then the chairs are occupied. There is NO pre-ordering unless its 4 dozen or more. So you are GUARANTEED to wait, no matter what. So there's this awkward, silent, 10 minute period after ordering that you stand there waiting, constantly dodging people or being bumped around as others walk by while you wait for your donuts. Its pretty inefficient. I disliked the experience. There's TONS of merchandise for sale which is pretty tacky. Get rid of that huge shelf and gimme more chairs. The ducks are cute, but I don't want a mug, hat, keychain, cup, placemat, and tshirt all with a duck on it. I like donuts, but not that much. All that said said, the donuts are actually pretty darn good that I'd go through all that nonsense again. But because of all that, I won't be going too often, so they only get 4-stars due to the experience/hassle of ordering. read more

My first time in here today, and the doughnuts were great! Got two doughnuts with the Maple Frosting and Bacon pieces, and this is the first time that I had to use a knife and fork for them because they had just came out and were piping hot! I asked my husband to get me a donut from here for my birthday breakfast. My husband came back with 3 donuts to split. The maple bacon was by far my favorite. It was moist, tasty and highly recommend. Then I had the chocolate with coconut. I think I would add some nuts to it next time for something similar to an almond joy. To bad there isn't any almond toppings. Then my husband got me the strawberry glazed with coconut and sprinkles. It was just okay. I think I would change the toppings on the strawberry glazed. The donuts here are one-of-a-kind. They are given to you warm and fresh Unlike Dunkin' Donuts. It's really cool how you can choose your own combination of a donut, or get a special, and you get to see them make the donuts which is really satisfying. Usually on weekends ( especially on Sunday mornings) the are INSANLEY busy. But the staff keeps everyone moving. I went today and it was not busy at all. I had some friends over and ordered a dozen mix. Now, the staff was really friendly and kind even though we took a while to choose. The donuts were the best! You have to get chocolate with winter sprinkles. My only problem is that the floors are really dirty do they should do something about it! No doubt I'll come back, I'm a regular costumer. Brands like Krispy Kreme and Dunkin tend to overkill their donuts with artificial junk, baking them to within an inch of their poor donut lives so they feel greasy or oily to the touch. This place is like stumbling upon the shroud of Turin. The variety and convenience of custom ordering from the menu is unique and provides a less diabetes-infused route if you favor something like coconut on a less ornate donut. I mean come on, you can't go for donuts if you are looking for a healthy treat, but all the same, there is still something for everyone. I wish there was a little more wiggle room on the selection, but still, amazing noms. The service was pleasant and quick, and I can't rave enough about the more delicate taste and texture of the donuts compared to other chain restaurants. I was really unimpressed with Duck Donuts, which is an extremely popular donut shop in the area. I was buying a bunch of donuts for a party and everyone at the party was excite about them, but they were just kinda eh, okay. I got a mix of every donut they had. Nothing really stood out that much--I probably liked the plain ones the best by far. I also ordered a latte which was a waste of money because they don't know how to make them. Generally, this place is forgettable. And had Yelp not reminded me to make a review, I wouldn't have. It's slightly better than Dunkin Donuts (1-star) but not worth going to. It's a fun experience for kids. The only complaint is that the service (while INCREDIBLY polite), can be a little on the slow side. But I am a repeat customer, so it's definitely not a nightmare. I thought this was a North Carolina "thang" before I saw this place randomly pop-up in Fairfax. I've only been here once because my wife is gluten-free and eating donuts in front of her is cruel. It would be especially cruel to eat these donuts in front of her. They are fresh, cake donuts (sorry, only one type) and they are served hot. You pick the toppings which is where I give them a knock. The toppings are good but they veer more toward what little kids would want on their donuts (although the maple-bacon donut combo is pretty, pretty good). You can do some very messed up things to a donut in this place - unholy, unnatural things. They aren't open late enough for stoners to really take advantage of the possibilities. Maybe if they wake and bake, but let's face it, they can't get their act together early enough to make this happen. That's the real tragedy at Duck's Donuts, if you're asking me. I just had my first Duck Donut this morning and it was good. Not insanely delicious just good. Hard to judge from 1 trip. However, I was thrown off watching them prepare donuts. They had latex gloves on but they also had a dirty rag they repeatedly wiped their fingers on after each dip or topping. They also wipe the counter and station down with it. Don't walk there... RUN! This place is incredible. I was a noob when I ordered, but I figured it out. Glad I was not there on a weekend or during a busy time. The variety of toppings are pretty good. Something for everyone. I wished they had jelly donuts thought. But that is like getting a free pizza, and then complaining there is no pepperoni on it. Figure out what you want, write it down, and prepare to wait! But you will be rewarded! My new #1 seed in donuts. I insist we go in there everytime I am forced to go with my wife to H-Mart (which I like, but it is a drive for me). If you are looking for a healthy option... keep on trucking.
