Out family looks forward to coming every year to Duck. Our go to as soon as we arrive is to go to Duck Duck Burgers. The woman behind the counter is always super nice. The food was average, but good. Duck, Duck was alright. The French fries were over cooked, but I should not eat that many carbohydrates. The fried fish was flakey and done to perfection, the special sauce added to the overall appeal. This was a take out order, if I was in the restaurant I would have sent the fries back. After striking out at a few places along the way we ended up here. I am really glad that we stopped here because we had a fantastic experience within. Walking in this place doesn't look all hyped up like other businesses in the area. It is a simple setup inside with cool, calming colors on the walls. The windows allow a generous amount of natural light to enter the space and makes for what feels like an outdoor dining experience. When we walked in it was a little confusing at first, we weren't sure if we sat down and our orders were taken or if we went to the counter to do so. See, on top of burgers this place offers ice cream. That's where the confusing part comes in, the ice cream is near the counter so I ended up there where I ordered my burger and fries. The young kid told me to have a seat anywhere and that he would be over shortly to take the orders of the rest of my family. Once our orders were taken you could see the cooks working in the kitchen to make everything fresh. When our food arrived it was piping hot and delicious. I have to disagree with the other review that said it was the worst burger they had for $10. This was probably one of the best I have had in a while. Made to order with fresh toppings. While we were eating the owner was out and about helping. We found out that this is a family run business and that they had just opened the year prior. The owner was so nice and chatty. She even noticed that I had been carrying an epipen and asked what allergies I had and then informed us that they are an allergy friendly place and would accommodate any customer to the best of their ability. She had told us her son has a severe allergy to peanuts and that she is super cautious when selecting items for this restaurant. It was like a fresh breeze coming here which was needed on the gloomy day we were having because of weather. Definitely a place we will probably stop again when we make our next OBX trip. read more

Decent burgers, WAY overpriced. With cheese and bacon, this is NOT a $13 burger. More like $7 or $8 bucks. $2.50 for a strip of bacon is absurd. Plus, I couldn't find a surface in the place that didn't feel sticky and dirty. In the time that we were sitting here, close to two dozen people walked in, looked at the menu, and walked back out. Don't do it. My boyfriend was hungry & I'm a local, figured we'd go in & grab a quick burger for him as it looked like it would be a decent place. It was closest & I figured all the places I usually go would have lines. Unfortunately he'd ordered before we realized the giant cockroach running around the floor or the flies buzzing around. There were ketchup & other various mystery liquid stains across the floor, all the ketchup bottles on the tables were nearly empty except for a single one we found after looking around. Burgers are overpriced at $10 & any topping runs $1+, including a piece of cheese. We should have left but it was so comically awful an experience we just didn't know what would come next. Walked in to get a burger today. The person behind the counter was on the phone and ignored us when we walked in. Their menu had five items not including ice cream flavors. We waited around for a few minutes. The man on the phone hung up and walked away saying "I will be with you in a minute". Sketchy. We left. And went the Roadside Raw Bar and Grill a block away and had an amazing burger, cold beer and fantastic customer service. Glad we left. read more

Stopped here for a quick lunch on check-in day. The burgers are good, the veggie burgers are pretty average, and they also have very good fries. They do not have a children's menu, which was a negative. You have no choice but to buy an adult meal for the kids. A bit pricey for what we got, but it's vacation. read more

Great experience in a rainy Friday afternoon. There was a bit of a line when we came in, but were happily greeted by the owner and our order was taken quickly. Definitely not a bad idea, but not well-executed. Food is ridiculously priced ($2 on top of an $8.50 burger for a piece of bacon broken in half). Onion rings are the generic frozen kind. Along with burgers, we asked for grilled cheese, which seemed to throw the server. She asked and came back with an OK from the owner (?), who we overheard actually saying something about not wanting to change his menu. (I asked for a cheeseburger minus the buger.) The sandwich came out as a cold piece of cheese on a bun. When I asked if it could be melted then the server was told no. I can think of 50 ways to make a grilled cheese on a grill. You have cheese, you have bacon, you have bread; a grilled cheese or BLT should be a no-brainer. I sent the "grilled cheese" back. The one star is for the darling server who did her best. Honestly not impressed, i mean yes the food is awesome, very expensive but beaches everywhere and we went in without shoes and shirt on and the staff got all nasty, we were going to leave if they asked nicely because we understand but the staff starting cursing, calling us names and other things, especially rude that we were about to pay about 80 dollars of food and personally would never spend a dime on that place ever, would never put my money to people who wouldn't appreciate it. Really great local 'hole in the wall'. Unassuming and delicious. Not many choices. But if you want a restaurant quality burger and fries, this is the place! Warm staff. Locally owned and operated. This particular spot is such an amazingly brazen tourist trap that I cant help but warn people. Completely average food, with prices that should be criminal. No substitutions and atmosphere that makes a person believe he's waiting for an oil change. Honestly, the sevice was fine, if you're thinking along the lines of McDonald's. The waitperson cant be blamed though, since it seems that is just how this spot is run.
