Family owned, small town, friendly and locally sourced. Do ask the owners why they named it Duck Soup Cafe but they don't serve duck soup. It is hilarious. Really homey feeling. If this was in Denmark, I would say it's hygge. One of the locals favorite places to grab a bite. I'm sure if you're new to the area, they would welcome you nonetheless. It's family after all. Best little hidden place in new hope, it's in where the Giant food store is, upon entering complex turn left and it's hidden up in the back. It's very small and very homey. It's like you walked into someone's kitchen and sat down the the people living there ask what you want to eat then the wife makes it while the husband gets your coffee poured. It's like a bacon and eggs or sandwich kind of place. You won't be blown away but if you are hungry and want a decent bit this should work. I got the chicken cheese steak. This home-y cafe feels as if youve stepped into the home of the couple running it. The space seems filled with keepsakes and souvenirs from the couples travels, and makes for a cool setting. The food is affordable, homestyle, and comforting. We felt very welcomed and were even given a pair of complimentary scones to round out the meal. Love Groucho or not, Duck Soup Cafe is a great place for breakfast and coffee. It is hard to find in Logan Square Shopping Center, but if you drive around back on the eastern side the rear door and sign are visible as the best way in. Started 35 years ago by the same family running it now, the place has an easy Americana coziness and knotty pine charm that makes for a relaxing environment. The menu is similarly built on kitchen classics, with one side for morning victuals, and the reverse, lunch. I was the second customer when I walked in around 9:20. I liked the country vibe and took a table in the front corner under the windows and across from the cashier counter and kitchen entrance. Their french toast was constructed from a thin cut croissant, and included fresh cool sweet butter to melt, real grade A dark maple syrup and two bacon slices. It was all very good, as was the bottomless coffee mug. Service was beautifully provided by Michelle, daughter of the owner/chef of the house. They both seemed to know all their customers, but me, and came out to greet everyone and catch up of the daily New Hope gossip. One of the benefits of Logan Square is that it is not downtown in tourist centric New Hope. Rather, this is for the locals, with real quality and reasonable prices. read more

On Valentine's Day, my husband and I treated ourselves to a matinee of "An Evening With Groucho" (we are fans of Frank Ferrante, who portrays the icon with marvelous fidelity, agility (oh those Groucho dance moves) and sharp humor. To add to our day out, we opted for a pre-show brunch, scouted out the possibilities on Yelp, and were amused to find an eatery named the DUCK SOUP cafe. Mind you, it takes a bit of a safari, to the rear left of the Logan Square shopping center, to find the cafe, but we did. The cafe is not a shrine to the Marx Brothers, but it is delightful in many other ways - cozy and inviting - with original artwork on the walls (including portraits of local legends, including a saucy, bejeweled Pumpkin raising a glass of wine), vintage tablecloths, and creative decorations such as a window lined with colorful serving trays. Our host and server was friendly and glad to converse about local theater and celebrities. We felt so welcome! Now on to the food. Eggs Benedict is something that I almost never order, because the hollandaise sauce almost always disappoints. However, I had a gut feeling that the Duck Soup Cafe would be THE place to order it. (Other yelpers approvals helped.) Husband and I both ordered Benedict dishes, his straight, mine with smoked salmon. Wow! Both were most perfectly prepared. Eggs poached to just the right second, a sauce that was light, and a delicious thin layer of smoked salmon. Duck Soup is a hidden gem! It's a cozy cafe located in the unsuspecting Logan Square. It feels like home anytime I eat here. Of course the food is wayyy better than my mother's. My go to is the Huevos Rancheros. Two eggs over corn cakes, instead of tortillas. It's the perfect combination of sweet and savory. They have great vegetarian options for breakfast and lunch as well. Grandkids wanted chocolate chip pancakes at 11am on a Tuesday morning. So of course we had to find a place! Yelp reviews and menu narrowed our search. And yes...great place. Not a large place...quaint and cozy actually. The owners were engaging and warm. I love that they want to get to know their customers...part of the charm. By the time we left I felt like we had breakfast in their home...it was that welcoming. My salmon (lox) and cream cheese was delicious and fresh. Said it was served on a bagel but it was some kind of dutch english muffin...at first I was disappointed but it turned out to be quite delicious. The kids choc chip pancakes were a hit. They were in the shape of a duck and rabbit. The pancake batter they use was so good. My Daughter ordered the huevos rancheros and loved it. Coffee was hot and good. Service was great and right on. Overall I highly recommend but keep in mind it is a small place. That is the only reason I would not drive out of my way for it...not sure how busy it gets and I personally don't like a long wait. read more

We have enjoyed going to Duck Soup for over 30 years. Whenever our children and grandchildren visit we hear a chorus of "Let's go to Duck Soup ". This is a locals spot... so if you aren't local or haven't been local, you might not get it... However, my two friends and I stopped in over this past weekend, and had an awesome meal. I got the soup with a spinach and feta pastry- it came with homemade bread, and the pastry was a stuffed croissant- AMAZING. It was incredibly filling and very affordable. Plus, the folks that run it are super nice. They whipped out an old school Ikea high chair for my kid (it looked a little rickety but it worked) and they even put her in there for me :) The gentleman asked me if it was ok, and said he had four kids of his own- that makes me better qualified than me :) I felt like I was at home with family.
