Unfortunately I got a nasty cold the day before we flew out so I didn't taste any of the wines, but it was still an amazing day largely thanks to David Velazquez of My Napa Guide. My friend had done the arrangements in advance and worked with David to tell him what we were looking for -- there was some back and forth because we wanted to change some of the wineries and also fit some more in. David was very accommodating and responsive. He is very knowledgeable about the area (being a Napa native) and told us about the history of the region as well as some of the processes that go into winemaking. He chose a diverse set of wineries so we felt we got the full Napa experience. He also was very friendly but was happy to let us sit on our own during the wine tastings until he came to collect us. He also very nicely brought bottles of water with him for our picnic lunch (which we got from a deli that he recommended and were able to take to one of the wineries). At the end of the evening (close to 7) most of the wineries were closing for the day but some of my friends still wanted to explore more. He was able to find a place that let us sit outside with a bottle for another hour (past their normal closing time) to have a relaxing end of the day. Finally, he was extremely patient and good humored about the copious amounts of singing in the car on the way home! I would highly recommend this service to anyone wanting to use a designated driver at Napa. Since I ended up not drinking at first I was wondering if it would be a waste of money (aside from the fact that I really didn't feel like driving) but David was as much of a tour guide as a DD and he really went out of the day to make the day special.

I grew up watching the balloons soar over my house every morning; therefore, I may have had a bit of a high expectation for this adventure. We arrived to a coffee shop in Calistoga around 6am where we met our pilot, Shane Robinson. We then picked up another couple and headed to the Santa Rosa Airport to begin our balloon adventure. At the airport, we had the opportunity to see another balloon be filled and take off right before ours which was awesome since as we were in the sky that balloon was always in our horizon. (Pictures attached). Shane was extremely knowledgeable, charismatic, and overall made the experience one to last a lifetime. I feel extremely fortunate that I trusted my first experience with Calistoga Balloons and even more specifically with Shane himself. I would recommend this experience to any and everyone. I will be honest I was a bit hesitant due to the price but in comparison, it was $30 less expensive in comparison and they didn't try to over squish us into the basket/ oversell the tour. Cheaper isn't always better especially when it comes to your life! IN THE END, 1000000000% recommend P.S. Remember safety is first and if they cancel for the weather to just trust them because they are the experts! Your life isn't worth the gamble.

Weather was perfect, I was expecting a windy rocky ride up there but you literally just glide with the wind all while having a panoramic view of Calistoga. Now I saw several more hot air balloons floating over the Napa area which seemed more popular, not sure if the views may be more better on that side since this is my first ride but it is worth checking out. After the ride brunch is included. We were taken to SolBar for brunch with a preset menu. I was so impressed. When they mentioned we'd have food after the ride I was thinking coffee and pastries but this was a full on sit down brunch. I would definitely do this again.

Firstly, kids would probably enjoy this trip. It was the Thursday trip featuring kids "entertainment, face painting, etc." The train itself is impressive! Two open air cars, four closed cars and the locomotive. One of the enclosed cars had a small wooden dance floor and assorted bamboo furniture. Another featured a cantina of sorts selling sandwiches ($5), sodas ($2) and snacks ($1). The other car had art deco lighting, wooden seating - very picturesque and one car seemed like being on Amtrak complete with freezing A/C. You can walk from car to car freely. At one point we moved because it got waaaay too noisy with all the kids. Secondly, if you've ridden Amtrak or trains in Europe and Asia (heck even BART), this train will seem like a snail's pace in comparison. It doesn't move very fast, but this allows you to enjoy the open fields and some of the Sacramento river. Honestly, I don't know if kids really look outside the window, they just like being on a train. It would have been nice if we were given some sort of handout explaining what we were viewing or the history of the train/tracks, the route we were taking, points of interest, etc. A simple two-sided copied piece of paper would have been fine. Since I used to face paint at one of my jobs, I was a little surprised at the face painting here. I find it easier to use face paints, a good brush and some body glitter. Instead, it looked like liquid eyeliner and pencil eyeshadow was used. Not only does that take longer to do your job, but the effect isn't as nice. Oh, and no one actually got their face painted, but were convinced that it "would look nicer" on their hand or arm. Where this really gets my three stars (as opposed to four) is when we reached the final destination, no one told us to disembark. I knew they had to switch the engine around and there was talk of adding a second engine on to repair (?) so when the train stopped, I waited. Another party also sat around. About 20 minutes later (!!!) we decided that we could probably walk to our car - hey it's Woodland, can't be that complicated. We then found out that we WERE at where we started but no one told us. Everyone - except the people in our car - had already left, gotten in their cars and were practically out of the lot. You couldn't tell from where we were seated that we had arrived. The staff themselves - which in this case was the owner, his wife and their two kids - were very personable. The wandering guitar-playing musician (imagine if Maria Von Trapp emigrated to the US and couldn't retire) had me humming "I've Been Working on the Railroad" all day. So in a nutshell, I would probably not go again if I had to pay full price. The only reason I would go again is because daughter liked it and wants to do it again. I would also sneak a flask on board.

For the most part the wine pours were generous though there was one station just outside of the open cars that decided that their wine was worth one ticket per one ounce pour. My thinking was if you have people that have paid $60 to try your wines don't treat them like you're at BevMo. We are your target audience. So we avoided that station and the rest were quite good. My suggestion would be to check how many people are on the train as best you can. The train yesterday had around 80 to 90 people and it was beautiful. Plenty of room to relax have a quiet conversation just taken the environment beautiful. The staff said anywhere up to 200 people on the train is still relatively comfortable but once it gets towards maximum capacity 250 - 300 it gets really hard to move around and I could see why. The passages between cars is wide enough for one person. Natural bottle necks. All in all it was a good trip and one that I'm looking forward to doing it again with more friends.

With some research we found Chien Blanc Bungalows, a part of NapaVacationHomes.com rentals. Pros - Chelsea, who booked our stay, was very communicative through email with our reservation and provided detailed check in and check out requirements for the rental. - Upon arriving there was plenty of parking in front of the rental and our bungalow was easy to find. We stayed in the Avignon Bungalow. - The Avignon Bungalow was very homey and comfortable (they recently updated the interiors of their bungalows so disregard previous pictures and reviews). I love that we had a kitchen to cook and to store any wine or food that we may be eating or drinking. The mini vanity was my favorite! - As the weather warmed up, we were able to enjoy the gardens on site as well as the outdoor furniture. It was uber romantic! - Love the option of the community room, however, we weren't able to use it during our stay. - Also LOVED the option to pre-order wine for our stay. I loved walking into our bungalow to a bottle of wine that me and my boyfriend can enjoy while we take it all in. Make sure to get the Chelsea Vineyards wine! It's one of their own and you can't get it elsewhere! - While the owners of the bungalows were pretty hands off, which is what we wanted, Chelsea was open to suggesting restaurants and wineries to try which was super helpful. FYI-Calistoga offers a shuttle which picks you up and it's only for a buck!!!! - Last but not least, Location! Location! Location! I can't stress how awesome it was to stay at Chien Blanc Bungalows!! No more than two blocks were many restaurants, coffee shops, stores, a grocery store, and most importantly, winetasting rooms! We didn't have to get into the car to drive anywhere and we didn't have to risk drinking and driving! Cons - I own an iPhone 5s, I know it's a dinosaur. So please disregard my crummy photos as they don't do any justice for Avignon. - We couldn't stay an extra day. I recommend that your stay be at least three days. Two days just wasn't enough for us. - That I didn't get proposed to. (hahaha, no pressure!) All in all, I highly recommend Chien Blanc Bungalows!! We will be back! (in the Arnold voice)

What a cool place to stay in while in Napa valley!…read more Calistoga is a small, charming town full of restaurants and shops to explore. Not to mention, there are many nearby wineries! The Chien Blanc Bungalows are also within walking distance to the main street of town. There are three bungalows and we stayed in the Avignon bungalow. It had a cool red living room and a 1940's kitchen. While a bit outdated, it definitely adds to the charm and my dad had fun figuring out how to light the stove. The bungalow contains one bedroom and the couch in the living room has a pull-out trundle underneath. Both beds can comfortably sleep 2 people each. There's also a game room, but not in the modern sense. It is a cool space though with board games, videos, and tv, darts on the wall, and a pool table. This place also has a great grill for use and my dad enjoyed cooking steaks and hamburgers for dinner. There's a market in town "Cal Mart" that is a two block walk away where you can find food to cook. Otherwise, those restaurants on the main street are also within walking distance. Cute and convenient place!
