Duke Bakery was discovered by my Mother in Law, and this is one of her new favorite places. It is similar to the other Asian bread bakeries, but there is something more "chocolate" about Duke. A lot of their breads have a great dark chocolate filling. Add that with the soft bread, and it makes for a great combo. They also have lots of samples so that you can try the breads before you buy one. In addition, they have very cool little shopping carts to put the bread in. The store is very clean and service is quite nice. The only bread that I had here that I didn't like was some sort of "Tuna" bread. As expected, it tasted very fishy, and was not very enjoyable for me. I typically lean toward the sweeter breads, but I guess that it is nice they have options. When we went on a Sunday afternoon, there was no line, and the store was empty. It was not packed like JJ typically is! Also, if you check in with Yelp you can have a free chocolate roll or a scone. Came here on their soft opening!!! 20% off everything for three days !!!!! The store was pretty big n spacious. They didn't have trays for the bread but carts lined w wax paper and thongs inside. I suppose it's for big time serious bread lovers! Got to try most of their bread and everything was pretty good ! Super soft !!! Love it!! My sister and I got a total of 4 pieces of bread and it was $12.80 . Yeah it's on the pricey side even after the 20% discount. However I have to say if it's good quality ... It s worth it ... Tried a few samples after lunch. Everything was so good. I'm not sure if it's normally the bins are so empty or we came after the rush. They were very nice. I love the ones where chocolate was mixed in but I settle for one with red bean mixed in. Deals: They have a current special if you buy 3 breads, you get a free membership with 10% off your next purchase. Payment: They take Cash, Visa, and MasterCard. Parking: They have a shared parking lot. Be aware the ones facing the post office are 15 min spots. Cons: The staff is still being train but that's to be expect since they just open up. I don't care for the mini carts they make you use to carry the bread in because they are a challenge to push at my height of 5'10." Wish they had it at stander shopping cart height but that would have taken away from the cuteness of the carts. Overall: Love it and will be back. PLEASE BRING BACK THE TUNA BREAD!!!!! I don't know why everyone is complaining about the price of the bread here. It's pricier than other bakeries cause the bread here is like double or triple the size. Also, the quality is much better and the ingredients are natural. You get what you pay for! I like that they have samples for you to try for some breads. They also have a list of their top 10 if you're not sure what to get. My favorites are the tuna bread and the truffle bread. I found out that they stopped making the tuna bread and I was so sad. My day was ruined! But luckily they still had the truffle bread in stock. I hope they bring the tuna bread back, because it was the greatest. So much better than the tuna bread at 85 degrees. Like a bajillion times better! TLDR- I found cardboard mid bite of almost finished bread. The place is cute and the bread selection is different and less robotic than other chains. Love the sampling they have set out. the woman who was working the cash register was super sweet and spoke to me in mandarin because my Chinese face betrays my language abilities so all I did was smile and nod. Prices were decent, 3$ each for mini loaves of garlic spread and black sesame, and they tasted and textured pretty good. But, I FOUND A HUGE CHUNK OF CARDBOARD IN MY BREAD. As I inhaled the savory loaf on the drive home, 2bites left and I bite into something hard. Mind goes..that is not bread. I look at the color, beige, distinct bandaid color and shape. And I pray I pray more than I ever have prayed in 23 years for the time before the next safe stoplight to examine this hard foreign object. What a sigh of relief when I determine it's just a piece of cardboard. But then I'm like just a piece of cardboard?? if I wanted cardboard in my bread I would've gone to Subway. First of all no one was the counter and waited 3 mins and called out "hello?" due to background noise. A lady came out and spoke to me Cantonese or Taiwanese. While I was paying for the food, I had asked for drink, passionate fruit lemonade (on their menu). She said No ENGLISH but able to say $11.75 in English. I was pointing to drinks and again she rudely said NO ENGLISH and tells me to pay for the breads. NEED to work on better customer SERVICE. This place might be hands down one of my favorite bakeries to go to. Every single baked item at this place is just perfection. I have never had bread so soft and pillowy like these. Walking into the store, you can see all types of bread with various fillings and flavors. You have cheese breads that you 4 different types of cheeses. You have breads that encase flavorful sausages and hotdogs. You have tuna and cheese breads that can make a meal unto itself. But these are just some of the more common flavors. But oh there's more. Some of the more unique flavors include sesame paste bread that brings such a unique nutty flavor that only toasted black sesame seeds can. You have matcha flavored bread that has a wonderfully earthy taste from the matcha tea. You have taro bread with a flakey and crisp crust while the inside is soft and moist with taro and red beans. And my personal favorite is the multi-nut bread with a glorious variety of nuts and seeds baked into the crust that gives it such a wonderful textural contrast to the bread itself. But perhaps the best part, and I mean the absolute best part, of this store is the fact that you can sample ALL. THE BREAD. Yes, you read that correctly. Pretty much every flavor of bread has a nice dish of cut up pieces right next to it for you to sample and enjoy to help you make a decision to buy a full load of the bread. It's like getting a preview or a test drive of a product, teasing you to experience the complete item in all its glory. It really is fantastic. On top of it, this store provides written instructions as to how to reheat your baked goods to experience the same fresh out of the oven taste. And I have to say, I have followed those directions and it does indeed help those breads maintain that wonderfully delicious, soft, pillowy texture and flavor. A little bakery chain that has very interesting prices. I do think that the quality of the bread is very good and they have many interesting things that other bakeries do not have such as a kimchi bread. But I do think that their bread is overpriced. Proportionally I believe that the price is almost equivalent to other bakeries such as 85 degrees bakery or JJ bakery, but the serving size is not the same. Duke bakery has a huge serving size thus driving up this price. I got three pieces of bread and spent a near $10 which because the size was so big, I am unsure if I will be able to even finish it by myself. The store itself was also quite a mess as there was a bunch of carts laying around the register which made it hard to walk around that area. read more

Interesting place. A bit on the higher end of pricing for an asian bakery, but the quality is higher compared to others as well. The bread is very tasty, and I've tried several different kinds. The bread are visually standard fare for an asian bakery, but the softness and taste is a cut above. You certainly get what you pay for here. The venue has lots of empty unused space, which they occupy by having many small shopping carts. In a way it's sort of comical, because I think you can cover all the space in front of the bread displays with about maybe 75% of the carts. If there were enough customers to be using every single cart, you would have a bunch of customers sitting around with nothing to do. Of course, I don't think something like that would happen, but it was a funny thought. The extra space does mean potential for expansion in the future perhaps? With my purchase I asked if I could have one more of the white baking wax sheet that they use to put their breads on inside the box. The girl told me that I had to pay for that! I'm so glad to find Duke in this area, even it takes me 1 hour drive to get there. You could tell they use better quality flour, oil and fresher stuffing, comparing to 85 degree C or JJ Bakery. The texture is soft but chewy with different layers of flavor, stuffings are light but fresh and worth the price. Really hope the bakery can stay as long as possible, cause they seem have less customers and keep low key. I got sesame bread, matcha roll with red bean filling and blueberry walnut roll. I was extremely happy to find breads that had no egg and no milk. The signs have bread ingredients and tell you if the bread has less sugar, less oil, no egg or no milk. The breads aren't too sweet and are really fluffy. read more

What I really appreciate about the bread is how yeasty they are and the high quality of ingredients. They freeze and refrigerate very well. Chocolate lover? This is definitely a place for you and me. Am and family totally big on chocolate especially for breads. They also have an exotic bread with Durian fruit filling. Their breads and price are slightly different than the other Asian bakeries. It's fluffy, but not airy and not stingy on the filling at all. They use grape fermented yeast so that's probably made breads good. But just one thing this place need improvement is customer service. Just the right amount of sugar! Perfect! If you have a sweet tooth like me but you don't want excessive amounts of sugar in the confection of the dessert you are going to eat then try Duke's. Their breads are yeast fermented so they are fluffy but dense and yet light in the stomach......but this is what makes it dangerous, lol, once you try you won't want to stop eating. People here whine and cry about the high prices of these breads! You get what you pay for!!! You want cheap? Pay cheap and you'll get cheap stuff.....but then people will complain as well.
