Food is pretty good. I was not big on the mac and cheese but my husband loved it! I tried the pulled pork with smoke sauce along with coleslaw and potato salad and other additional sides. But the pork, coleslaw and potato salad combination is definitely worth mentioning!. Now, I'm not sure if EVERYTHING is homemade but it sure tasted delicious. I had over three plates! The corn filled hush puppies were absolutely delicious! I was so full I couldn't even get dessert. The sweet tea is also very good! The price is fair and the owner and who I believe is his wife are very personable and love to know where people are traveling from and how we heard about them! I told them yelp of course! There was a very sweet lady who was cleaning up and also refilling trays of food. She was very helpful and didn't bat an eye when my husband accidentally dropped rice EVERYWHERE. She was an absolute sweetheart. This place is great and people should pop in for a quick fix if they are on the road. read more

My dad, the kids, and I stopped in here for lunch after visiting the Artisans Center. When you walk in the place is very unassuming and unpretentious and the atmosphere and smell put you right at ease. To say this is good ole boy, Sunday afternoon church cookout, good southern comfort food is an understatement. My soul is at rest while eating at Duke's BBQ. Probably not so much my waistline, but that's neither here nor there. You aren't going to Duke's to please your waistline; but, you know if your soul could smile, it'd have a grin from ear to ear here. If you aren't a buffet kind of person you may not like it but I promise you it'll be worth setting aside your dislike for once. Between the lot of us, we tried almost everything at the buffet and everything was delicious. The girls had an especially hard time making a decision from their pick of desserts. How they had room for desserts is beyond me. But, I think kids will always find a special spot in their tummies for dessert. read more

On the way back from Hilton Head we stopped at Duke's BBQ. I don't know how they do it in South Carolina, but Duke's does it well. Duke's is a $12.00 all you can eat and drink buffet. The pulled pork is amazing. You have 5 different house made BBQ sauces to choose from, they are all wonderful. The hush puppies were fantastic. Basically, everything is good. Perhaps the most delicious thing was the banana cream pie. It was amazing and served like a giant mess. It's like you're a little kid and someone just said, "have as much dessert as you want." Traveling from Florida to Philadelphia, was looking for a good BBQ place. This was an all you can eat no frills southern BBQ place with plastic forks and paper towels and a loaf of bread on the table. Not the best I've ever had, but not terrible either. Good pulled pork. Fried Chicken was just ok.. I was really hoping for something that would have been "unforgettable" but this was not it. Sides were ok. A lot of "fried" foods. Hush puppies, corn balls, onion rings. DELICIOUS!!!! AMAZING!!!!! Was traveling from Ohio to Florida and passing thru, and wanted some famous Carolina BBQ... and found this place on Yelp! then via the road signs. The place isn't too far off the I-State i'd say Aprox. 5 minutes off. The staff is really friendly and helpful, I went on father's day and when i called to see if they were open, the lady that answered was super friendly and made me feel welcome before I even got there. The Hush Puppies are amazing with a sweet putter batter, and the sauce... Oh the sauce! Terrific! The hot BBQ sauce is sweet at first then has a punch. I would recommend this place to locals and travelers alike... if you're traveling they this is the place to go! Great stuff. read more

Pulled pork topped with coleslaw and spicy BBQ sauce, this is what road trips are made of. Driving South back to the unsouth, I knew I wanted to try at least one decent barbecue place. Then we got into Florida and I was like, "quick, find a place before it's too late!". Thankfully we found Dukes! Like most good barbecue places it isn't much to look at, but the food was pretty darn good if I do say so myself (best fake southern accent). Don't state standards require buffet food to be kept at a certain temperature? Guess not. The fried chicken was ok. The sides were eh, at best. The desserts looked inedible. The place looks run down. The pig in front of the place was the best part of dinner. We were in town for a car show and air show. After a long day in the sun with 3 kids - we headed over to Dukes after seeing the billboards we figured we had to check it out. We unloaded the car, walked in to the restaurant to see it was a buffet. Turned around - not wanting to deal with that... while buckling the kids back in to their seats, a biker dude having a cigarette break told us to get back in to the restaurant if we wanted to taste the best barbecue ever. Exhausted, I told him, "Fine, you are watching the kids!" He said, "No problem." Picture perfect (and tasting) SC BBQ. If you want a good BBQ place out of central casting, this is it. Great all-you-can eat buffet for $10. I went with the pulled pork which was excellent, chopped right in front of you. Since this is SC I went with their mustard based BBQ sauce which is different, but has a nice tang. Great greens too. Purposely detoured on our way to Jacksonville from Charleston in order to try this all you can eat BBQ buffet. For $10 per person, what did we have to lose? The pork BBQ was excellent and there were many choices for sauces from mild to hot. The chicken was really crispy with great crunch but, alas, I found the meat a little dry. I could have filled up on the hush puppies and corn fritters. They were to die for and the fried onion rings were good, too. As a Yankee, I admit that I am not a huge fan of okra, collards or "well cooked" (mushy) vegetables, and while I'm at it, I still haven't had a southern mac and cheese epiphany. However, I did not leave the table hungry especially after sampling the red velvet cake and banana pudding desserts. Excellent BBQ! We loved the hush puppies and the kettle cooked chips...but all the sides were great. I'm not too use to SC sauces but this was a real nice change to try something new. The desserts on the buffet were off the chain good, especially the banana pudding. The prices are reasonable and includes your drink. Just a comfy, little, down-home spot....nothing fancy on the inside but definitely worth a try! They also offered reduced prices for children! Looking forward to coming back again soon. read more

Best BBQ east of Texas! We stopped here by chance and now have plans to make a special trip back! This is true SC BBQ at its finest! We walked in and were greeted by the All You Can Eat buffet and were VERY skeptical. My wife who is not a fan of buffets gave me that "are we really going to eat here" look, but we were hungry and decided to stay. We were both glad we did! The pulled pork was amazing, it did not even need sauce. The ribs fell apart and you could hardly pick one up without having to use two hands. But the real star was the sauces, O.M.G. The spicy was hot, but not crazy hot while my wife enjoyed the sweet/smoked sauce (which is not her norm). The sides were great, but the only let down was the Brunswick stew which was too soupy for our liking. Overall this was great and with a price of around $10.00 it's a no brainer! read more

Dukes BBQ is a BUFFET and usually I avoid buffets like the plague, butt (Boston, and plenty of it) you Yelpers drove me here and I liked it. The fried chicken was amazing, light, crispy, not too greasy, get it. Hush puppies were like a little ball of golden delicious heaven. Oh my goodness. I love collards and these were just right, not mushy and overcooked, they were just right and perfectly seasoned. Black eyed peas were tasty, cooked just right. Pulled pork was also fantastic. For dessert, head straight to the banana pudding and indulge yourself for something in that big of a container it is very good. Kiddos liked the chocolate cake/pudding/whipped cream creation. Mac & cheese I didn't care for so much it was fine, and some might love it I just didn't dig it. Avoid the green beans and the butter beans, neither were worth the plate space. This is not a fancy place, they have loaves of white bread on the table, scuffed floors and nothing is in pristine condition. It's clean but plates are Styrofoam, plasticware abounds and you may leave feeling like a supermodel, comparatively speaking; I call it Golden Corral syndrome. read more

Determined to incorporate local barbecue into our meals as we drove from Florida to Lake Erie and cycled back, lunch time came as we neared Walterboro. With solid reviews on tripadvisor and Yelp, we exited the interstate and made our way to Duke's. We're glad we did, but did not have the same experience so many others were describing. Very much catering to the local crowd, it was clear that the dining room was populated with many families who knew each other. Most come for the $10 buffet, which looks to be a good value if you like their pulled pork. We opted for a simply a pulled pork sandwich and accompanying cole slaw and corn nugget. The meat on the sandwich was dominated by the sauce and was short on smokey flavor. The cole slaw was not too sweet and among the better slaw we've had. The corn nugget was nicely fried and tasty. If pulled pork with sauce is your thing and quantity is your thing, Duke's may be for you. It wasn't for us, but we're glad we tried it. read more

As someone who loves barbecue, and has traveled all of the state of South Carolina trying different styles and places, this place was an affront to South Carolina barbecue. First, the barbecue meat itself lacked flavor, lacked any smokiness, and basically lacked anything that would make it appealing. There were a variety of different sauces from which to choose, as the meat itself was completely unsauced (and seemingly unseasoned). The fried chicken, while moist, was very bland. The only saving grace among the meats were the pork rinds, which were very good. The vegetables were overcooked, under seasoned, and lacked any real flavor. While the hash was okay, the rice was dry and basically looked old. Admittedly, I did not try the hush puppies, onion rings (I assume they were onion rings as they were around and deep-fried), or the desserts. By that point, I was so disappointed in the meal that I did not choose to go back. In my opinion, if you're going to run a South Carolina barbecue restaurant, you need to put some pride into your meat. For $12, this was a horrible value. read more

The hotel clerk suggested this place and it was right on. The restaurant is just buffet style and the room decor matches the "Get it yourself" philosophy, but the food is pretty good. The staff is friendly and helpful and really helped sell this restaurant. Food flavors are great, but because of the buffet style, some of the items are a bit chewy if they sat too long. I was impressed with the Collard Greens-just a bit firm and not mushy with a great taste. The pulled pork was tender and all of their sauces were pretty good. Duke's Barbecue is one of the best barbecue place I've been to...which is saying alot because I'm more of a chicken person. The price is fair ($11 with discounts for military, children, and seniors) The food is well made, and tastes great. I've never tasted anything I didn't like...I stay away from the okra anyway.
