We decided to stop here on our Way back to North Carolina. I had a craving to try barbecue with mustard sauce. Inside you will find a number of tables (each with a loaf of white bread) and a long buffet at the counter. There's plenty to choose from in the buffet, including sides that I have not seen before in NC, like barbecue hash & seasoned black-eyed peas. The barbecue here, I believe, is made of shoulders and smoked on a wood burning but probably gas or electric supported smoker. It is served pulled, like you would make it home. It has a gentle smoke and nut flavor, but can be easily smothered and clouded in mustard sauce. Overall, not a bad place if you want a big meal full of barbecue and the fixin's. I'm not big on the mustard sauce, but they had other sauces available. So, if we're ever back in the area, I might just stop by. read more

We opted for the buffet - mostly because we didn't see there were other take out options until we ordered. The only BBQ on the buffet was pork, which was okay - nothing memorable. The only other real food was fried chicken. There were a bunch of side dishes - Mac and cheese was bland, but the corn fritters were tasty. Nothing here stood out, the staff wasn't friendly or helpful, none of the food was labeled (I thought the corn was catfish until I bit into it). It was a nice alternative to regular fast food and they even have a drive-thru if you want it faster. It was a Saturday night and had a good sized crowd (just enough people that you know it's good, but not annoyingly crowded). The food was good and there was a good selection. The restaurant and (ladies) bathroom were clean. Bags of Sunbeam white bread on each table are a little odd - not sure whose hands have been in there?! We paid $10 for each adult and $4 for my son. My son liked the mac 'n cheese and I didn't even know he liked the homemade kind (he's picky). The hash (macerated pork, onion and potato) had a different consistency to it, flavor was ok. Let me begin with COVID. This restaurant is not following any sort of safety for your health. The employees are not wearing masks or gloves. They are not cleaning the food prep areas. We watched a member of the staff pull meat from the buffet to make a sandwich for someone in the drive thru. She wasn't wearing a mask and was breathing through her mouth. I would suggest staying away just for this. As for the food, it's tasteless crap. We had the buffet. Only finished half a plate. The fried chicken was dry and flavorless. Is there something wrong with spices or maybe even salt? The barbecue pork was nothing but chunks of fat. The Mac and cheese again tasteless and overcooked. I've never seen a noodle so gooey. Surprised to see it was a buffet. But you can sit and eat a bbq sandwich inside. Sandwich and fresh chips were very tasty however it Just needed to be hotter(temp). Not sure what to call this style of barbecue, but it was very good. It's a honey-mustard sauce on some of the most tender pulled pork you could wish for. I was heading north on I-95 when the barbecue bug struck and the Duke's billboard beckoned. It's a short drive off the highway, but the signs direct you in pretty well. The inside seating appears to be buffet only, but honestly, with the timetable we'd set, the drive through was the only option. We got sandwich baskets, which included a sandwich and choice of side. Don't get the homemade chips. I did and they're greasy and soft. I'd try the slaw, black-eyed peas or collard greens next time. The meat simply melts in your mouth and the sauce is just the right mix of sweet and tangy. Total bill was less than $15 for the two of us, with only one sweet tea. Horrible drive-thru experience. I saw they closed at 2, pulled up 15 mins before closing. Started to order, was cut off when asking for sides, because they were sold out. I did not feel welcomed here, even though I arrived before 2PM. I felt like a burden. After I paid, tipped 20%, I was told "just so you know, we close at 2" to which I said "I pulled up right at 1:40, if it means anything to you" and she said "We have cameras" in a very snarky way. Ok this is southern food on a buffet. Veggies were all great! BBQ was super tender and moist. Sauce was different than what I am used to but it was tasty. Fried chicken was great. They advertise this place from the highway. It's a Buffet so beware l, you're about to blow the diet. Great fried chicken. My son had thirds. Totally worth the drive from 95. The pulled pork was ok. I love me some Dukes BBQ. It's one of those guilty pleasures. Where Comfort food and Good people collide. They have an all-you-can-eat buffet. With bbq, fried chicken, Mac and cheese, coleslaw, hush puppies, etc. etc. basically all the best southern foods. Their Fried Chicken is my favorite. The dining area is very casual and laid back, so leave your good clothes at home. They do have a drive through if you don't have time to come in. read more

We come here every few years when we take trips to and from South Carolina. Some things have changed over the years, (like the current changing situation with the ribs) but one thing remains the same: we walk out happy and satisfied every time. This place gave me food poisoning. To elaborate, I was making my way from Virginia to Georgia when I saw a billboard that read "Duke Bar-B-Q real food." I decided to go with my family to enjoy some "real food." First big red flag, there was no barbecue food. Second, the place needs a good cleaning, all the tables were dirty and no there was no one cleaning the tables. A team with bottles of bleach needs to enter this place and hopefully none of them die to all the bacteria that this place has. In less than 35 minutes, I have had to get down on I-95 south bond to take a shit in the middle of road due to the bad food under the fucking rain. Since it was raining, the paper I had to wipe my butt with got wet and ended up with shit on my hands. Thanks to the uncut lawn I was able to clean my butt by dragging it through the grass on I-95 like a dog. At the same time, I was shooting their baked beans like a machine gun. Also, they give you foam cups filled with ice which immediately waters down your drink since the fountain dispenses hot soda. This is an old school bbq buffet place, meaning you can't order what you want, what they have on the line is what you get but man let me tell you something it's great country food at an unbelievable price. Where I live there's a mediocre bbq place that literally charges 2 dollars less just for a small basket of fried okra than Dukes charges for their entire LINE of food which, when I was there, included some great fried okra. There was a large selection of food, sides and deserts and I latched onto their chicken right away. Yeah I had seconds, and then second-seconds and maybe even third-seconds. Awesome place for a quick, casual meal. It's smallish, and it's buffet style so it's emphasis on food and value not ambience, so I'd say it's great for anyone looking for some down home cooking without breaking the bank or anyone on a time crunch. Went to one in Walterboro, SC. Great pork barbecue and buffet. Loved their Pork Hash and mustard bbq sauce. Vegetables were wonderful. On Thursday they had rutabaga. Best I've ever had and I'm not a real fan. South Carolina may be only place you can get the pork hash on rice. read more

We stopped here after seeing all of the billboards on I-95. Follow the signs and you'll get here in no time. Busy lunchtime, but there are plenty tables. There is also loaves of white bread sitting on the tables as well. There wasn't one on ours, but were were asked. AYCE buffet, barbeque style. $13 for myself and $7 for my son. Drinks included. The only barbeque is the pulled/ chopped smoked pork and the hash. There's fried chicken and tons of sides. I have never had the hash, but a gentleman ahead of me said it was the thing to get here. I gotta say, it's pretty tasty. I tried the green beans, lima beans (my favorite) and the chips. I really like the spicy barbecue sauce myself. The hushpuppies and onion rings were crispy and hot. The tea is fresh brewed and sweet. For dessert, I tried the banana pudding. It's mostly Nilla wafers and whipped cream, but none the less good. This restaurant has 4 star rating ONLY because their the only (church) in town! You may be just as well off to go to Georgia or North Carolina to find decent food. This PIT is the pits. Oh ya...if ya do decide to come here bring your own GermX to clean the salt and pepper shakers off as they are REALLY nasty. And bring a dust mask as they LOVE to sweep under tables while you eat. We stopped at Duke's while travelling north from Florida during Irma. We wanted bbq and I like the idea of a buffet lol. The building is nothing special. It's an older building and could benefit from some updates and redecorating, but that's not why I went lol. And the service wasn't great, not even friendly...hence the 3 stars. If those 2 things were better I would have sprung for 4 stars maybe. What matters to me is the food, and I wasn't disappointed there. When going to a buffet, you have to kind of expect to sacrifice a bit of quality, but as buffets go, this one was of the best I've had. The buffet had a very large selection of foods and guess what....it was HOT. I mean piping hot. I've never had hot food at a buffet before! Of my favorites: The fried chicken was extremely juicy, the corn nuggets were fresh, and the pulled pork was juicy. I only wish there were more meat selections; it is a bbq joint after all. But they make up for it in desserts. I'm a chocolate fan, but found the banana pudding and peach cobbler were the best options. I've never had real peach cobbler but this stuff was GOOD.
