Cool Name, Disappointing Food I really wanted to like this place. It was a summer evening, I was craving a good burger, and with so many food options around the area, this spot definitely caught my attention. Unfortunately, the food just didn't live up to the name. The fries tasted like they had been sitting around and reheated. They were stiff, dry, and definitely didn't taste fresh. The zucchini fries had the same issue. The burgers were just okay--nothing terrible, but nothing that really stood out either. It's a cool concept and a great name for a burger joint, but unfortunately, the food was pretty underwhelming. So this place used to be called California something back in the day, and it was there for many years. Now they've changed it to Duke's Burgers, so we decided to give it a try. Inside, it feels like your typical neighborhood burger joint. Nothing fancy, but it was clean, the service was fast, and overall it was a cool little spot. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich with chili cheese fries, and my boyfriend had the chicken pita with onion rings. The food was pretty decent, and I will say the fries and onion rings came out nice and fresh. I also had a little side salad with my meal that was good as well. Overall, if you're on the south side of Montebello and you're in the mood for some good, hearty food instead of your typical fast food, Duke's is a good little neighborhood spot to stop by. read more

They were very kind and friendly. Was a quiet day so was good chill setting for memorial. There was a mix up and they gave us regular fries instead of chili fries but the lady was so kind and added chili and cheese to our fries. Appreciate that very much. The chili was very good and the fries itself had a good flavor and good combo of crunch with the inner softness. Cheeseburger had a good flavor. Pastrami was good I prefer it with the burger than sandwich alone. Also pairs well with the chili fries. The onion rings were amazing with the ranch or the burger sauce. This is my first time at Duke's Burgers in the city of Montebello. This location use be California Burgers before becoming Duke's Burgers ,I decided to come to try the food at Duke's. I decided to order the pastrami combo comes with the pastrami and fries and a drink. I decided to take the meal to go when I came home raw smell was overwhelming of the smell of the pastrami. I started to the fries they were very good hot and fresh from the fry and touch of season salt they were good. The pastrami was very meaty and very juicy but the meat was tender and flavors were very intense like the mustard and pickles and roll bread grill before they add the mustard and pickles that's a pretty good pastrami. The staff of Duke's are very friendly and helpful with my order next time I need to order an another item from their menu. read more

I went here about a week ago and asked for 2 grilled sandwich on wheat with light sauce, and they literally drenched it. Like wayyy too much. Even if I didn't say light sauce, that amount was crazy. I live 5 minutes away and by the time I got home the bread was completely soggy and greasy. I couldn't even eat it, I had to throw it away. Went here the other day on my lunch break and got the crispy chicken sandwich chili cheese fries and a chocolate shake. Everything was bomb! Food was good I have the pleasure of eating burgers, fires, onion rings, a patty melt, and chicken tenders. All were delicious and well cooked as well as prepared. Service was super fast and seeing them all work in a fast paced environment was incredible and impressive! Customer service was great they were approachable and nice. They have an elderly woman who acts as an attendant for the tables and people who are eating which is convenient and easy for those who don't want to get up for a refill or napkins. I'm a local so will definitely be returning to this place it's also good to have a change from Arrys as well. Definitely recommend! read more

We wanted to check this place out because it was new. From the moment we got inside, it was really hot inside, AC doesn't seem to work at all. All the workers were just hanging out talking and laughing instead of doing their work. Once we got to the cashier, she was super rude, had a look that she didn't want to be there. When we ordered something, she would respond in a rude tone. We take a seat to wait for the food, while it is hot inside this location. We receive the food after a wait of 10 minutes or so, I take a bite of my burger and everything is fine, however, my mother takes a bite or 2 of her burger and there is a long piece of brownish/gray hair in it. My mom pulls it out and is absolutely disgusting she takes it to the other cashier along with the "2nd owner" and told them about it, he immediately tries to give excuses for them and says he has ordered hairnets for his workers, however, at this time none of his employees are not wearing any hairnets or anything. My mom gives the burger and fries to them and takes a seat back down while I continue checking my food to see if I find anything. The "2nd owner" and the other cashier come and try to convince my mom they can get her another burger and immediately the cashier begins to profile my mother thinking she doesn't speak English and began translating everything that the 2nd owner was saying in Spanish which offended my mother and just made the situation even worse as she told them she speaks English. They kept trying to apologize which only worsened things. The "2nd owner" then offered to give my mother a steak with fries which we took and she ate despite being disgusted with the burger, she hardly finished it as it was very flavorless. I went to try the breakfast as it's now Dukes. I ordered han abd eggs and was eating when I had to go the bathroom. I was in there for about 4 minutes and when I came out, one of the workers was throwing my food away. I had just started to eat it when I had to go. She looked confused and she said sorry. One of the other workers who use to work there when it was CA Burger, asked what happened. I told get and she apologized and tried to rectify it. I told her no and walked out. OK, I first want to say that me and my family were very excited to try a new hamburger place because we liked California burgers. However, once we tried it, we were extremely disappointed. The lady recommended bean soup which tasted like water with beans thrown in there. Me and my daughter got hamburger specials. I got a junior burger burger since I am watching my figure, and I am not kidding. The actual hamburger patty is about as thick as a slice of paper and my daughter says it tasted like rubber. She said she'd rather go to McDonald's and take her chances at eating a human hamburger. The fries had a great flavor great texture except they are very stale as well as the bread in the hamburgers were extremely stale so disappointing. I spent 40 bucks on lunch and we basically just threw it in the trash. I hate to trash a new business, but they're really shitting on us with the quality they're throwing out. We wanted to support local businesses, but just got super bummed about this outing. We won't be back. read more
