My husband and I were driving home and he saw this place, and said he had to stop. He ordered a veggie burger, I ordered a hamburger special with French fries. This order took me back to high school days, when this was the place to hangout after school. They always seemed to get everything right. And all I remember was a large bag of french fries with every to go order. Fat golden brown slightly crispy french fries that were just dumped in the bag. Never really measured. Though it seemed. Going back to my order yesterday- not the same! The burger was just okay. It didn't really have much flavor, all I can taste was the char. And the fries were definitely a new recipe. They were much thinner and they seemed to have a light coating on them to make them crispy. They were a much smaller serving too. This being said, Astro burger didn't nail it. I will not be returning because I really didn't enjoy anything on my plate. I can get those fries from Jack in the Box. read more

I wanted to like this place again, since I used to eat here 3-4 times per week when I was younger and would walk by on my way home from school. This time, I felt as though I had made a mistake when I decided to stop here for lunch. The ONLY positive about my visit was the service I received. The restaurant employee who took my order and, five to six minutes later, delivered the food to my table was friendly and welcoming. The food, on the other hand, left much to be desired. I ordered a veggie burger combo with no spread but extra mustard on my burger and no salt on my fries. My burger had spread, and there was no mustard, and my fries were extremely salty. The burger was bland and offered no taste whatsoever. I finished my burger because I was hungry, and I ate three fries before tossing the remaining fries into the trash, as I HATE salty anything. I did not complain about my food because the restaurant was very busy, and I did not have time to wait to complain or to wait for a replacement order. My brother just brought me a chicken char salad from here. Low and behold it was tasting good. I ate all the chicken and cucumbers and tomatoes and got down to the lettuce. I have been coming here growing up. Never had any issue until my last few times going. The chief TINO is very rude and unfriendly. He yells at not only customers but staff as well. He made my food entirely wrong. My mother asked for her toast to be toasted again bc it had dressing and avocado smothered on it and wasn't even toasted. She had to get up and ask for her toast again. TINO needs to leave, many customers have complained about him, that same day he yelled at an older lady who went there with her husband which by the way she drove far to get to Astros. She, her husband, my mother and I were very upset with the service especially from TINO if he is cooking he needs to focus on cooking. Even I know how to toast bread and I'm much younger than he is. How does someone not know how to toast simple bread. It's obvious he needs to focus on just cooking and not speak to customers especially if he will give them shitty services. I have been coming here for years and have never been disappointed. The restaurant is always clean. The staff is super friendly and the food is solid and predictable. I think they have some of the best pancakes in the SGV and a perfect cup of coffee. Don't less to the trolls here. They have been serving quality food for 45 years. read more

I haven't been here in a while but I finally came back and it's even better than I remember!!! The BLT is so fresh with lettuce, tomato, bacon, avocado, and mayonnaise. Their zucchini is DELICIOUS with ranch. People are complaining they are dry or flimsy but they're soooo good when fresh and you have to ask for them extra crispy. That's the trick! I love Astros and my family and I have been coming here since I was a child. I love the people who work here but most importantly I love the owner who's been here since 1978. Never again. I feel like I got robbed. If I wasn't so hungry or had groceries to make my own lunch, I would throw this right in the garbage where it belongs. I ordered taquitos (2.99) and zucchini sticks (5.99) When I got home, to my surprise, there were 2 small dry ass taquitos and a small container of quac soup. For what I paid, I could've brought a box of Jose ole frozen taquitos that would've tasted better. I poured the guac soup on my taquitos and ruined them more because it tasted sour (wtf?) Then I think ok the zucchini sticks should be good because they said homemade on the menu. They were so floppy and soggy in the middle. The batter has this strange peppery after taste. I live 5 mins away, so they couldn't have gotten soggy so fast. I ate less than half of the order and tossed it in the trash. I was so disgusted and unsatisfied that I came straight to yelp. What I received was overpriced, bad quality microwaved style food. The only thing that was good was the ranch. I will never ever order from here again. You are better off driving 5 more minutes and going to golden ox or toms burgers. This was a complete waste of 10 bucks and 10 minutes sitting in the drive thru.
