Staff was…read moreincredibly rude right from the start and did not offer any assistance in fact when we opened the door to go into the cat room they did not greet instead they shouted at us that the room was "too full" and to "please get out". We waited outside for a few minutes and as the room cleared we were able to come back in and there was about three employees with the nastiest attitudes they did not in anyway shape or form offer any kind of assistance so I told my daughter let's go back inside into the shelter and look at some kittens that we saw inside the building upfront. This is when this visit took a turn for the worst.. we were followed nonstop by a volunteer ..she asked what I was looking for and I explained to her I was looking for a cat she helped me get some information on the cat that I was interested in and she then gave me a slip to get into line with and pay the adoption fees. So by this time my daughters and I have been in the shelter a little over 40 minutes my younger daughter started whining and crying that she no longer wanted to be there understandably .. it was a bit overwhelming this particular day it was a Saturday and it was very very busy with long lines and I explained to her we needed to pay the adoption fee or else we were not going to be able to adopt this cat (mind you she is three years old) all of a sudden the volunteer who had been helping me walks up to me and says "oh I think you should probably come another day without your daughter's because her crying and whining is really embarrassing for you" I turned over and looked at her I didn't say a word and I can tell she then realized how wrong that was of her to say and then she tried to apologize and say sorry well no it doesn't work that way you already were incredibly rude and basically telling me to get the heck out of there . So that's exactly what I did . Thanks to nosy Rosie volunteer I took my business elsewhere and ended up adopting the most beautiful cat I've ever seen at Pasadena animal shelter. The staff here is incredibly rude dismissive and just nasty.

On a Saturday we found a brown common sparrow sitting in the middle of our yard. Alive,…read moreapproachable, but not moving. A couple hours later, dead. 4 days later, another sparrow, the same thing. We left it alone, but kept an eye on it and called Animal Control, which directed(via automated system) to WVAS. I called and after a hold of about 10 minutes, an officer answered & I explained our concern. She told me we are welcome to bring any injured or wild animal we can safely gather and bring in 24/7. She suggested boxing the bird and bringing it in. We did. 15 minutes later, walking in and seeing the same officer I spoke with. Another employee took the box and went straight to the on-sight vet. While she input our name, address & contact #, I mentioned again that this was the 2nd bird in a few days and asked if we should be concerned or notify anyone else. She said no, the vet will see if they can do anything, if it survives it goes to a bird rehab facility for further monitoring, then eventual release. If it doesn't get better, not, then it's euthanized. I was wondering if the bird gets a autopsy to see what killed it. She said no. She then generated an impound code, in case we wanted to check for updates. We thanked her and left, feeling bad for the bird. When we got home - ANOTHER BIRD! This one in our driveway, just staring at our stucco wall. Grabbed a box & gloves, and back to the shelter we went. When we came in this time, she wasn't there, but the other worker who took the first bird back to the vet was. He took the box and away he went again. He returned to update our intake for the 2nd bird. He then told us that the first bird had died and it looked like the 2nd one was now dead. We again voiced our concern that now 3 birds within 4 days were found in very poor condition. Since we don't work in this field, we asked if this is a concern for them. He just stared at the motor and shook his head 'no,' then said he had all the info they needed and the impound code would be the same. We left hoping to not have to go back and we still don't know why this happened. As of today, no further birds found. We also haven't seen any alerts about bird diseases in our area, which is information the LA County Dept. of Health monitors and shares via their website, but it's good to know that we have this facility in the SFV where we can take a wild animal we may find injured or in poor health. After hours, there is a door bell to the right of the main entrance. Someone is always there to accept animals. Cheers! "CC"

I had a very unpleasant experience at this animal shelter and I feel the supervisor Troy handled…read morethe situation in a very unprofessional way. About two weeks ago I took in a large dog because the previous owner was going to take him to the shelter and I felt bad for the dog. I wanted to try to keep him, but after keeping him for a short time I noticed the dog was becoming aggressive toward my wife and my kids. I have small children at home and I cannot take risks when it comes to their safety, so I decided the responsible thing to do was to bring the dog to the shelter since I could not keep him and I could not find anyone who could safely take him. When I arrived, the supervisor Troy came outside and immediately had a rude attitude. Instead of trying to help, she started questioning me in a way that felt more like an interrogation than a normal conversation. She kept asking why I had my wife's ID with me, how the dog knows me, and why I was bringing the dog there. I understand staff may need to ask questions, but the way she spoke was disrespectful and unnecessary. I explained that I live in the 91344 area and that the dog was not safe around my family, but she kept arguing and acting like I was doing something wrong. In the end, she refused to take the dog, which made no sense to me because this is exactly what animal shelters are for. People come there when they cannot safely keep an animal. What bothered me the most is that she is a supervisor. If a supervisor behaves this way, it gives a very bad impression of the whole place. People who come to a shelter are already stressed, and the staff should treat them with respect, not attitude. I tried to do the right thing by bringing the dog to the shelter instead of abandoning him somewhere, and I left feeling frustrated and disappointed. This was not the kind of experience I expected from a city animal shelter. I hope management looks into this, because situations like this should be handled much more professionally

Post that phone call, my feelings about the way she handled herself Changed, and I was wary of her. Despite her assertion that I had no idea what I was looking for, I told her precisely what I was looking for: a bonded pair of cats that were a little older, say two years old or older. I had just lost my cat and my dog. I had also just lost my husband. All this within four months. I found my house too quiet without the pets and my husband, and that is why I reached out to Rhae. I wanted something to care for, a bonded pair of cats seemed exactly what I needed, having had cats all of my life. I never bad mouthed other rescue organizations, other than mentioning the southern golden retriever organization from whom my husband and I adopted two fabulous golden retrievers. While the dogs were great, the organization was not. Unfortunately, I am in very good company as pertains to being dissatisfied with that group, and I only mentioned it to Rhae when she specifically asked me if I had worked with other organizations. The forum of yelp asks for reviews. They do not ask for only positive reviews, they asked for both negative and positive, and I have given both, so on that issue and only that issue, Rhae was correct. The vetting of my house was not done by Rhae, it was done by the other woman, and we had a delightful time. Rhae is clearly a bitter and unhappy human being who calls anyone slightly older than she "elderly. "Indeed, I have let my hair go salt and pepper since Covid. That does not make me elderly. Indeed, I shared with Rhae that I had a major back surgery the year before, which is why kittens were out of the question because I could not bend as often as they might need me to. That does not make me elderly. That makes me aware of the limitations of my body and reluctant to jeopardize my health. That also makes me someone who wants to completely fulfill the needs of whatever cats I adopt. Don't believe Rhae's gaslighting. It is as fake as she is.
