Most horrifying moving experience! I used them twice over 3 years, and both times they made me feel unsafe. As a former diplomat, I have had over a dozen professional moves, and I have never been mistreated the way I was by this company. Below are a few key points that anyone should consider, before choosing this company. I, who do not intimidate easily, was made to feel unsafe both times I used this company. I have to question if this same behavior occurs when they are not dealing with a single woman. 1) No accountability: -- On my most recent move with this company, they sent a 3-person team. Two of them knew how to pack and move, the third had no idea what he was doing. A few quick examples: taped my leather chairs together with no protective wrapping (ruined them); put red wax candles unwrapped on top of white pants, ruining them; threw oil paintings into a box without putting any wrapping around them. I highlighted all of this to my point person at DUMBO, who did nothing. -- Theft: When they moved me into my temporary place, two of the men (including the one I had trouble with) went to the back half of the apartment (my roommate's space) to put down one item. My roommate's credit card was stolen from his desk, and within 5 minutes of the move, hundreds of dollars started being charged ONE BLOCK from our apartment. Over 2 days, they racked up thousands of dollars of random restaurant charges. I do not make theft accusations lightly, especially having worked in law enforcement. There is 0% chance it was anyone else. I filed a police report, but the DUMBO "customer service" and sales reps repeatedly chastised me and made it clear that they were not going to do anything to help me with this situation. 2) No concern for/disrespect of my sense of safety: -- I had no choice but to use the company two months after the theft, for my permanent move, as they had most of my things in storage. I specifically said that I did not want the same team, against whom I had filed a police report. I have all of this in writing. They stopped responding to me or any of my requests. -- They sent the same team to my home. I am a single female, alone in my apartment, and 2 men against whom I had filed a police report came to my door. I didn't want my valuable possessions to be at risk, so I had no choice but to let them in. One walked up to me and said, "I remember you, do you remember me?" (Let that sink in for a minute). -- I have never felt threatened in my own home before. This was shocking. I emailed the company about it; they never responded. I was trembling, I was so uncomfortable. -- I could almost accept the thought that maybe this was just an isolated incident. However, when I had used the same company 3 years earlier, they also used intimidation to squeeze more money out of me. The head mover sat me down on my couch and demanded I agree to a certain amount of tip. I kept trying to tell him that I would tip him once my things are delivered and unpacked, but he would not stand up (he was physically between me and the door) and told me he would not continue the move until I agreed to a specified amount. Again: I am a single woman, alone in my home with this man blocking my door. -- When I accidentally called the same company 3 years later (listed under Big Apple, instead of DUMBO), I told them I would never use them again and explained exactly what had happened. Somehow, their sales guy (Ron) convinced me that it was a terrible mistake and that he would ensure I'd have the best possible team, as a repeat customer. What a joke. 4) Deceptive pricing: -- All I can say is, stay on top of every single quote. Despite our agreed-upon amounts, the sales guy would randomly send me bills that were nowhere near the price we had agreed to. I'd have to go back and forth several times before he'd finally fix the b.s., arbitrary prices he was sending me. And it goes far beyond saying "the week you chose is more expensive than the price we originally quoted you". It would be random b.s. that when I called them out on, they had no choice to correct. So just beware of their shifting prices. So if you made it this far in my post, all I can say is: You have been warned. They know that I have zero recourse for how they treated me, other than to write reviews in every possible forum I can think of. Considering all the positive reviews they receive, I have to wonder if they particularly mistreat single women, who they think are vulnerable and more easily intimidated. Would I use DUMBO MOVING again or recommend them and was everyone professional and polite with honest pricing: ALL YES I called the number, and it said to text them. Lior replied. He asked questions about the move and also for pictures of major furniture. Afterwards, he told me I had a choice, my date or their date. 1st impression very good. Lior mentioned insurance and when followed up with him, less than 30 minutes later, Matthew was on the phone talking to us about the options. 2nd impression is also very good. A date and time window were given to me. Antonio called and texted keeping me posted with notifications of their arrival. I met Antonio, Luis, and Sergio my moving crew. I asked questions and what if anything they needed from me. "Please sit down and let us take care of everything, you are the customer and therefore you don't have to worry about anything, we will take care of everything." I couldn't. I watched and asked questions. All 3 were willing to answer my questions and were not annoyed in any way. VERY PROFESSIONAL!!! I saw them not use a sharp object when ripping the tape. I asked and they showed me how it was done. They showed me the "reverse wrapping" on delicate items where the first wrap is backwards, so no stickiness on the furniture and then twist it to lock it in place. Watching them load the truck was like TETRIS. Boards placed to reenforce the placement. I said certain piece of furniture did not need to be wrapped; I was told ... "we protect your furniture and objects and it would also be unprofessional of us not to do so." Asking why they wrap plastic on the bottom and legs was explained to me. Pictures delicately protected and placed in boxes. Furniture taken apart and each part PROFESSIONALLY wrapped like a delicate egg. The coordination of Antonio, Luis, and Sergio was great!!! Coordinated and knowing each other's thoughts they worked smoothly and with ease. When everything was placed on the truck, we discussed the route and timing. Both of us were leaving to the 1st drop off location. We had multiple stops with a storm coming. The 1st stop they unpacked everything just as delicately as they packed it up. Perfect. Oh... Forgot to mention that they looked at the items before packing and would point out the flaws or parts broken before packing the furniture, lamps, and other big objects up just to let me know. Some I did not know about. (Again, this is above and beyond because it shows you the ATTENTION TO DETAIL that the three of them do!!!) With big furniture they got in into small places. With a heavy object there were no complaints. At our place we had a time limit and we told Antonio / Luis / Sergio about it. They said no problem we can do it and sure enough they got everything in, unloaded, and put back together within the time frame. Everything was unpacked with purpose and there was no rushing on their part. They cleaned up after themselves and made sure to ask if we needed anything else. Again PROFESSIONAL. I was the one who was there from start to finish. When they got to our place, my wife saw and commented to me that they were good and also was very happy with the service they provided. She said that I was NOT exaggerating when I talked to her about ANTONIO, LUIS and SERGIO. I have stated that we would use them again and have already recommended DUMBO to others. I have stated that you would be happy with LIOR and while I am sure every crew is good, I told them to ask for this crew by name, ANTONIO, LUIS, and SERGIO. They were polite, professional, explained everything, reassuring, efficient, and most importantly attentive to details. My final call to Lior was to comment how great the company was as well as my crew. I also asked do you only do the I-95 corridor, and he said no they go everywhere as I told the relatives in the mid-west that they could use them as well. I recently used Dumbo moving for a long distance move from Brooklyn, NY to Charleston, SC. I HIGHLY recommend Dumbo Moving for any of your long distance moves out of New York for the following reasons: 1. PRICE - I'm sure you're currently calling 5-10 different moving companies going through the painstaking process of reading through all your inventory, room-by-room. Let me save you 3 hours of your time, all moving companies use the same basic flat-rate formula to calculate their quote. They calculate your cubic-feet of inventory (done via their computers based on the inventory you have to tell them) for me this came between 550-650 cubic-feet depending on how thorough I was on the phone. Then the company uses a simple $/cubic-foot rate to come up with the bulk of the quote. Dumbo moving company was the ONLY company with a $/cubic-foot rate lower than $3.50, trust me I called them ALL! Most companies were quoting me $2,800-$4,000, Dumbo was able to complete my entire trip for under $2,000. There are of course other administrative fees on top of just the $/cubic-feet calculation, but that is definitely the bulk of the cost so save yourself some time and just ask the other sales reps what their $/cubic-foot...I'm positive it won't be lower than Dumbo. 2. Customer Service - I worked with representative Matt for my entire move. Every time I called their office I would be able to ask for Matt and he was always available to answer any question I had. He was thorough, responsive, and always happy to walk me through any question I had about the quote, timing, the drivers, the trucks, etc. You will not meet a nice team both office reps and movers. 3. Movers - For my long distance move I used a shared van to keep my costs to a a minimum which meant that I had a local team of New York movers pick up my shipment who then transferred my shipment onto a long distance truck (which contains not only my shipment, but 5-10 other shipments), which is then driven by the long distance movers to my new apartment in Charleston, SC as one of their 5-10 stops. Both teams of movers were 100% professional, efficient, respectful of my time and always went the extra step to protect my furniture using pads, extra boxes, and the proper equipment to load/unload. A special shout-out to Stefan who was the long distance driver and mover who unloaded all of my furniture with the help of one other mover up to my new 2nd floor apartment. Stefan was absolutely wonderful to work with. He gave me advanced notice of his arrival, showed up when he said he would, and moved in my entire shipment in only 2 hours. He was a pleasure to work with and I was very pleased with his friendliness and work ethic. 4. Timing - Both teams arrived exactly during the window of time we agreed to and worked quickly and efficiently to load/unload my shipment as quickly and safely as possible. And to rebuttal any poor review that complains about being charged more than their quote after the pick-up team arrives that is the customers fault. You need to provide a VERY detailed list of your inventory to the sales rep in order to receive an ACCURATE quote. 9 times out of 10 the customer forgot or underestimated how much junk they actually own. So be VERY conservative when you list your inventory. If you aren't thorough, expect the final bill to be higher than your quote, their business model is to charge you based on the amount of space your stuff occupies on their truck. 5 Stars to Dumbo moving, they were flawless in all aspects of the move. read more

Beyond Grateful! I was in dire straights, having to move out rather quickly, and after speaking with a few other moving companies, I decided to go with Dumbo Moving. Not just because of the great reviews, but after immediately reaching someone and getting a very good quote and very polite customer service, I knew they will be my movers. I ended up having to postpone the move, because of unforseen circumstances. Dumbo moving is not only very understanding, but worked with me and reserved my future moving date. I ended up moving about 3 weeks later and here's the best part. The three guys that helped me move are very personable movers and arrived right on time (technically a few minutes early even, being considered of the horrible weather which was predicted on the moving day. I'm talking about an absolute washout eventually lol). I gave them a quick tour of what's moving to the new apartment just once and they remembered all of the items and wrapped up all of my furniture and belongings so lovingly. All my furniture was wrapped up carefully in thick, protective blankets, secured with sturdy tape. Nothing, I mean, not a single item was damaged or got wet. They basically silently removed all the furniture and belongings and silently brought all my things up a very tricky and winding staircase to my new apartment. There wasn't a single damage to any of my items or the old or new apartment. All three movers that helped me are so pleasant, understanding, kind, considerate and careful throughout the entire process. And to top it all of, all was done in a minimal amount of time, far sooner than I expected. What really amazes me is that even though everything was completed so quickly, they were so very thoughtful and careful how they secured my belongings in protective packaging and also so very quick and quiet in getting everything out of the old place and into my new apartment. My new landlord made a point about this being a quiet house, and I didn't even have to tell them. Like literally, when I would walk around my apartment months ago or attempted to move things around the apartment in the past by myself, I would knock into things and cause noise or the occasional dent in things. Not with Dumbo movers. It was smooth sailing. I am so very grateful and happy. And they finished before the heavy rain hit. Absolutely wonderful! And also, this was an unexpected move to begin with, so I wasn't happy about having to move in the first place. Dumbo movers made the process so effortless and painless, I didn't shed a single tear. Communication was great and they placed all items exactly where I wished for them to be. I am actually so excited now to fully move into my new apartment. All thanks to Dumbo moving. Reading the reviews here, I see that Dumbo gets mixed reviews, so aside from issuing them five stars for a flawless move, I'll take a moment and share why we gave them this highest rating. Before setting out and calling Dumbo (and others), my partner and I decided that while we would have professional movers assist us with the physical move, we would undertake all the packing ourselves. Meaning we got our own boxes, bubble wrap, paper wrap, packaging tape, etc... this was a critical step that surely helped us have a very smooth experience with no surprises. About a week before our move and only about halfway packing our boxes, we reached out to Dumbo and discussed our needs with a sales rep by the name of Luka. Luka was friendly, informative, and helped us gauge an accurate estimate as to the size of our move. In our phone call we went room to room, furniture to furniture, and finally estimated the total amount of boxes that would be moved from our apartment downtown to our new one uptown. Also, we had a piano to move, and unlike some other companies, Dumbo had a dedicated piano team (big plus!). Finally, we were also very accurate about our starting point (5th floor-walk up downtown) and ending point (elevator building uptown). This thorough conversation gave us an initial quote that beat out the others whom we spoke with (granted not all were available, and some didn't have dedicated piano movers, so that disqualified some companies). As the moving day approached, we spoke with Luka on multiple occasions to ask some questions, to update the amount of boxes we had ready, to decrease some furniture (which we gave away), and to add an additional stop for one item that would go to our storage unit in the Bronx. In all the conversations, including our final one, Luka was patient and friendly, and provided us promptly updated quotes based on our changing situation. Luka also promised us the use of wardrobe boxes, free of charge. This back-and-forth process was great, because we knew exactly what to expect and there would be no surprises nor any hidden costs (and the Dumbo team also wouldn't be met with any unpleasant surprises, either). Once again, we had everything packed and ready to go, so there was no room for confusion in this respect. On the moving day itself, the team showed up on time. They were excellent. They first tackled the piano, then they carried the rest of our furniture and boxes with care down our 5-story walk-up and into the truck. As promised, the furniture was wrapped securely with moving blankets, and all of our packed and sealed boxes were reinforced with even more tape, which the team brought with them. Loading the truck took them about 2 1/2 hours, which was lightning fast. Mind you it was nearly 100° that day, and the team was dedicated to get the job done. Once loaded, we followed their truck up to our new apartment uptown. Here, the team had a little bit of an easier time because there was a service elevator at our disposal. In under an hour, everything was upstairs and in the apartment, with each item carefully placed exactly where we wanted it. Finally, we then followed the team up to the Bronx where they moved one piece of furniture into our storage unit. Buckle up, this is a comprehensive review for you because I am one of those people who religiously reads reviews and the good and the bad ones weigh heavily on my decision to spend my money anywhere. We moved from Brooklyn to Upper Manhattan from a walk up to a higher walkup, and with more stuff than we actually realized we had. I called multiple places to compare quotes. This is where Dumbo first stood out. Our sales rep was Hank and he was incredibly kind, friendly, knowledgeable about what we would need, and most importantly to me, quick and efficient. I personally HATE when I'm trying to get a quote from somewhere quickly and they spend 5 minutes asking me how my day is going. Hank was nice and to the point, 5 stars immediately. Next, Dumbo allowed us a fully refundable deposit of only $50 to hold the date of our move while I got other quotes. As we got other quotes, we realized this move was going to come down to who was able to offer us the best price for the amount of stuff we had, Hank was incredibly communicative and worked with us on price to get it down to where we felt it couldn't be beaten. Also a big plus for me, the process to pay was incredibly easy but also secure and required credit card authorizations. Something I appreciate to ensure our credit card numbers are not being stolen. The process to add details or items to our move was incredibly easy, and again, all had everything to do with Hank. Now about the actual move, we ended up getting assigned Truck 106 with Davit, Shalva, and Makar and I need to emphasize, this move would not have been as good without these three guys. Our time window was 7AM - 9AM arrival. The guys and truck were downstairs at 7:00AM on the dot. I kid you not, they got everything out of our apartment in under 2.5 hours just the three of them, with nearly 4 flights of stairs. All of our furniture was packed safely and protected. Any time I had a concern, Davit addressed it and kept me updated on how many boxes they were packing, how it was being packed, and progress. Davit knew exactly what we were moving, double checked the inventory and there were zero surprises. The only hiccup that happened was that for some reason Davit's brief for our apartment had the incorrect number of stairs but Hank cleared that up quickly over the phone. When we finally got to the new apartment, the guys didn't even take a break. They immediately began loading into the building. We had a few large pieces that I knew were a pain in the butt to move, and the guys never complained or got mad at the difficulties in getting it up the stairs. What impressed me the most, is that they rarely stopped to take a break. And when they did, it was for less than 10 minutes it seemed, even after all the hard work they were doing! They put all our furniture back together perfectly, moved it to where we wanted in the apartment, cleaned up after themselves once done unwrapping all our furniture and fragile items, and even took some of our extra boxes that we didn't want. When I say Dumbo Move made our move the easiest move I've ever had to do (and I've moved multiple times) I mean it. I won't be using anyone else for the future. With summer time approaching I am sure many people out there are starting to look for moving companies. There are endless options, do yourself a favor and DONT USE DUMBO for any reason. PLEASE do not put yourself in the cross hairs of Dumbo. READ THE OTHER REVIEWS. These people have no values, greed is all they know. This company has no shame. The crew that packed our goods was a very nice group, however they refused to wear masks due the heavy exertion they faced with moving. They said they were not mandated by their employer to wear them, a prime example of Dumbo's practices as a business. Once they finished packing it would be almost 5 months until I saw my goods again as Dumbo was paid to store them on a pallet in a climate controlled unit. When they were delivered them they were caked in mold, almost all of my furniture was DESTROYED, almost $20,000 in damage. The crew told me when they showed up to get the goods at the "climate controlled warehouse" they were just sitting on the floor. Clearly they ran out of storage space and tossed my goods wherever they had room. I am an understanding person, I realize the flood of business that resulted in the exodus from the city. Luckily, everything that was destroyed was replaceable. I was reassured by the claims manager, Anthony Callazo, that Dumbo "always does the right thing" in these unique situations. Unfortunately for me I believed him. I was unable to move into my home for several weeks since we had no furniture, Since mold was involved I was instructed by Anthony to dry clean all of my cloths and that I would be reimbursed for this expense, almost $2k. Didnt happen. On moving day the crew crashed the truck into my walkway, I was told to get it fixed and that I would be immediately reimbursed, another $500 out of pocket, Guess what didnt happen? The next 3.5 months were utter hell with being bounced from Anthony to their insurance broker to their insurance agency and back to good old Anthony. We had an accepted settlement, which was broken within the hour despite having written confirmation. Then I was offer a few hundred dollars on a $20k claim. I was told they paid the wrong claim, then I was told they didnt have any money to pay my claim (which was the most comical response of all time), then I was told the insurance company would pay me. Round and round we went. They REFUSED to take responsibility and pay my claim. Mistakes happen, but Dumbo will not own up to them. They do not care about their customers, they know they can treat people this way because consumers have limited ways to fight back. They say this was a "one time thing" and move on. It is shocking to me that people like this exist in the world. NOTE, if you end up filing an insurance claim I would do the exact opposite of anything they ask you to do. The broker consistently pretended to be empathize with me and constantly bashed their own client as a way to gain my trust. Their insurance broker then intentionally mislead me a number of times, including advising me to not reply to offers to settle being made by Dumbo and that all offers needed to be made by the insurance company. I recently relocated from NY to South Florida and finding a reliable mover was one the most stressful parts. My research led me to Dumbo Moving. They gave me a straight forward quote, and what I really appreciated they were not pushy unlike other places I contacted. I'm so glad I went with them. To secure my move I paid a 10% deposit and then few days prior move I had further communication. One thing that other companies were trying to sell me is shuttle service, which covers moving your stuff from 18wheeler to a smaller truck in case the place you move to doesn't allow such big haulers. Well, I had communication from Dumbo, I checked with local township and found that 18 wheelers are allowed, so no such fee is necessary. From my friends I heard that they were either surprised by their new location regulations or slapped with extra charge without explanation. I'm glad that Dumbo was proactive about it. I made my final payment few days before move and the. Realized I need to add few items. I called and added those for reasonable fee. Overall I think I paid a fair price. So then a move day came. I was scheduled from 1-4pm in the afternoon. Shortly after 9am I heard my buzzer, which surprise, surprise were the movers. I was a bit panicked because I still planned on packing few boxes in the morning. The guys assured me they will help me if necessary. So I put all anxieties aside and just went to oversee their work. I had a truck #12 assisting me with pickup in NY. The crew of 3 guys worked quickly and paid attention to my frágil stuff. I moved out of 3rd floor walk-up, and they maneuvered my precios items with precision. These guys were courteous and also respected all CDC safety guidances, in case it's important for you. I really can't recommend these crew more! They are amazing. And now the part of receiving my stuff. I actually traveled to FL a week after the move. So I communicated that my first available day for pick up would be then. That day I was notified via email that my stuff had departed NY warehouse and I was given a link to monitor the trucks progress, which gave me somewhat of heads up. Then 2 days later I got a call from a truck driver that he will arrive with a time frame. This time the truck showed up within the time frame. This time it was a driver and a helper who delivered my stuff. They gave me a list with all my belongings and all I had to do was to check that all the items were inside my new place. It took them under two hours. The drive, Christian, was very courteous and when my neighbor asked to move the truck so he could exit from parking spot, he obliged without hesitation so now pressure with new neighbors! So it took 3 days for my stuff to arrive from a date of departure. It's really not bad! Now the hard part is the unpacking and thinking where to put what. I took time to write this review because I wish I knew more about the process before I went on the search. But one thing I can assure you, that I'll be using Dumbo Moving again, this time to move my mother-in-law. She's very particular about her things and I know these guys can make her feel secure and in control. read more

This is a report on a successful crosstown Manhattan move from one apartment building to another. I planned the move with Ben, a Dumbo Moving rep, who made all of the arrangements. While the estimated cost was competitive with other estimates, Dumbo's slightly lower to be honest, the competence of Ben and the ease of working with him were the primary reasons we used Dumbo. We read online opinion sites, exclusive of Dumbo's, but you never know for sure about the accuracy of those comments. My dealings with Ben, for the moment the "face" of the moving company, who was always available and patient answering my questions and providing advice in numerous phone calls, were most important in my decision. I perceived a sincere willingness on Ben's part to make his estimate an accurate reflection of the move and the cost--and it was to the penny! My husband and I were highly satisfied with the high caliber of the Dumbo moving crew (Vesko and his assistant Nemy). The 2 men arrived on time (actually a few minutes early) ready to go to work--a friendly greeting from each, signing of some paperwork, and then non-stop working for 6 hours. They were both very knowledgeable about the techniques of disassembling furniture and skillfully wrapping them (in clean-looking blankets). Watch Vesko prepare your furniture as he quickly "dances" around your wrapped furniture securing it carefully with mover's tape! My husband asked to have cardboard wrapped around a desk top before it was blanketed, but while they said it was not necessary, they did it anyway with a smile. We had no damage to any of our furniture, upholstered seating, or any other items. I watched the whole time, noticing how carefully and organized they moved our belongings all the way into the truck (a winding route out of a Manhattan high rise to the street--but the mover's seemed accustomed to big city buildings) and never complained about the 94 humid degrees that day. The Dumbo-marked truck was large and in good condition--no second rate "fly-by-night movers" here. Vesko and Nemy were gentlemen--efficient and friendly--which made for an anticipated tense situation instead to be a relaxed one. These two individuals were professional and very much tried to please. (The writer also believes that the success of our move was greatly affected by the quality of the movers we received and wants to respectfully remind others that they may have varying results with different crews.) And there were no "nickel and dime" attempts to raise the estimated amount over small items at the end as I have read about elsewhere. (The best estimate is not always what actually happens on moving day.) As an expression of our gratitude, we gave them each a substantial tip, but at first when they were finished it may have looked to them like we were not, and they began to leave with a friendly good-bye--no attitude, no shake-down, and no ultimatums.
