First off - not sure what the 1 star below is saying about sodium overload. That was definitely not our experience here. A traditional XLB place on Noriega! The dumplings are made freshly every single day, and you can taste that in the thin chewy wrappers when you pop one of them soupy bad boys into your mouth. We tried the original and the crab ones, and I personally liked the traditional OG ones a bit more, but both were super flavorful and super juicy! We ordered the pork potstickers per the worker's recommendation and was surprised that it was one of my favorite dishes that night. It is crispy on the bottom, filled with super juicy and flavorful filling, paired with a perfectly chewy but not too thick wrapper. We also ordered the salt & pepper fish fillet, and that was a huge hit as well - crispy batter and perfectly seasoned. We had a friend that doesn't eat pork and he was still able to enjoy vegetarian potstickers and many other dishes. Lastly, we ordered so many dishes but ended up only being around $20 per person!!! The xiao long bao was very jumbo and juicy. This was my favorite dish. We also tried the eggplant which was very flavorful and good texture. This is a new restaurant and their soup dumplings are amazing. I especially liked the classic pork soup dumplings and pork and crab soup dumplings. Went here for dinner on a Saturday night. We were seated right away and the service was amazing. Definitely have to try their signature XLB! The soup is very pure and has great pork flavor! My friend even said it was better than DTF! Other really good dishes include: the string beans, the pork dumpling, and the crispy tofu. The winning dish for me was their bao tacos!! Amazing dumplings and regular food. Their xiao long bao & pan fried bao is amazingly good. They have the rice cakes with pork which is not a staple but I had it before in another Chinese restaurant. Their version is so good. Since I was introduced to it, I've already gone back. And it's still the same, they use fresh ingredients so their food is good. Second time eating here. Sad to say it went from a 4.5 to a 3 at best. The restaurant is nice, bright, and clean and the service is solid. The issue really has to do with the inconsistency of the quality of the food. First time: we had Shanghai soup dumplings, noodles, ham rice, tofu, and pan fried dumplings. We thought everything was very good, except the noodles were perhaps a tad bit oily and heavy. The soup dumplings were amazing and we thought they actually tasted better than some of the hyper hyped up dumpling outlets in the city... you know which. Today was completely a different experience, they noticeably raised the prices across the board and the soup dumplings were awful. They had next to no filling inside and the broth was like they just reused a typical Cantonese beef turnip dish's sauce... again awful. At 13.95 for some awful dumplings in the sunset , this is more expensive than a certain well known institution in Manhattan. Make NO MISTAKE, this place is a Cantonese place through and through whatever other types of cuisine they are hoping to sell you on simply misses the mark by a wide stretch. Lastly, cook the food you actually know and if you want to raise prices, at least maintain the quality. Oh did I mention the suggested tip was off of total bill including taxes etc and you can't use your credit card unless you order $30 or more. This place is truly where ...dumpling bites...the dust! Will not return. Another Cantonese restaurant in a city full of very subpar Cantonese restaurants that's masquerading Shanghainese cuisine. read more
