Service was a bit slow, but considering how busy it was, it's understandable. And they forgot to give us the scratch card when we paid - we won free dessert! Very happy this area has become the dumpling heart of the city. Went to Dumpling Bites 2x in one week because I couldn't get enough. My favorite pan fried pork dumpling is still Dumpling Kitchen but this place makes a close second. The bottom of the pan fried dumplings are crispy and the inside pork is flavorful! Just with any of these dumplings - be careful because the juice will burn your mouth. I also tried the beef noodle soup (tip- you can ask for thin or thick noodle!). The first time they asked us but the second time they didn't and it defaulted to the thin noodle? Idk but I preferred the thicker one. Speaking of thick- had the onion pancakes which were thick but still pretty tasty?! I think the star at Dumpling Bites IMO was the fan tuan (Taiwanese sticky rice rolls). They were delicious and a must get. Really liked the decor of the restaurant and on a weekday lunch rush, it was filled with people but no wait. Everything is lovely! Let's start with food. They have a variety of selection of Shanghai food other than dumplings. And the portion is good size so don't be swayed by the restaurant name. We had old time faves Shanghai noodle, hot & sour soup, string beans, dried fried chicken, cucumber salad and they are all delicious. We always think we ordered more than we should but the plates are all wiped out at the end of the meal! Special mention their chicken skewers and house special rolls. These 2 deserve drum roll! My sister and mom tried Dumpling Bites two weeks ago and recommended their xiao loong bao (Shanghai soup dumpling). I was told the xiao loong bao was as fresh and tasty as Din Tai Fung. I came this week with my husband and toddler to try their xiao loong bao, boiled dumplings, Shanghai-style chow mein, and their Shanghai-style pan fried buns. The best thing here was really their xiao loong bao. It was very fresh and juicy like Din Tai Fung! It took about 10-15mins to make so it was definitely steaming hot when it came out! Highly recommend that since they were also larger compared to other restaurants that made the soup dumplings. My toddler and I both love dumplings, so we definitely had a bigger expectation for restaurants that served dumplings. Surprisingly, the pork and chives boiled dumplings were only ok. We tried the Dumpling Specialist on Taraval a week prior and I actually liked their dumplings more since it was flavorful. This one was a bit bland for my taste. Even my toddler did not really eat his but he ate a lot of dumplings at the other location. The Shanghai pan fried buns were juicy but needed a bit more flavor. I personally liked Dumpling Kitchen's Shanghai pan fried bun on Taraval St, but of course, none of these places could compare to Shanghai or Taiwan. However, Dumpling Kitchen was the best ones we had in the city. The Shanghai chow mein was standard. Prices were slightly cheaper than other dumpling spots in the sunset district. The restaurant was emptied the night we came but I overheard the worker talking to another customer in Cantonese that they were so busy during the day time. That same customer already came here three times and the restaurant only opened for four months. The restaurant was modern looking and clean. The lady staff was very attentive and nice. She even packed up the food for us. Very good customer services for a dumpling place that usually would not pack food for customers. She even asked if we wanted to order xiao loong bao and the Shanghai pan fried buns so she could place the order for us first since those two items took 10-15mins to make. In addition, the lady got us plastic utensils and even a plastic bowl so our son could use it as his serving plate. This is my partner's favorite go-to casual restaurant so much so the kids tease him. The food is consistently good and reasonably priced! There's a good variety and something for everyone! It's convenient and easy. The interior decor is relatively modern, clean & contemporary. It's very welcoming & the varied clientele ranges from young professionals, young families as well as elders. Parking is easier than most parts of the city. What more can you ask for! Our favorites are mapo tofu, chicken corn soup, XLBs, green beans with minced pork. Delicious food with big portions. They've updated their menu a lot since opening and one of my favorites is the new Shrimp and Silky Egg over Rice. They also have more drinks now and they all look very beautiful and unique. I tried the Sparkling Sunset, and "refreshing" is an understatement. Getting seated is usually a fast process unless the restaurant is packed. Service is still quick and efficient despite the level of busyness. Great spot overall, and after their reopening, there's been extra care put into both the customer experience and the place itself. read more

It's starting to get confusing and annoying. However, what I enjoyed about Dumpling Bites is their VERY juicy XLBs. There was so much flavorful broth flowing onto my spoon and a delicious pork meat encased perfectly in the thin skin that didn't tear. And for $13.99 (currently) for 10 pieces, it's a relatively good deal compared to other XLB places! The pork and preserved vegetable rice cakes dish was good, consisting of plain chewy rice cakes, mildly tart preserved greens, and good slivers of pork. Overall tasty dish, yet not greasy. The pan-fried broccoli beef dish was a little greasier, but delicious. The beef was flavorful and the vibrant green broccoli were perfectly cooked with still a crunch. As with most Asian desserts, the rice balls dessert wasn't too sweet, consisting of 3 sesame filling and 3 red bean filling encased in rice flour and rolled in desiccated coconut. Dumpling Bites is my new favorite neighborhood restaurant. All the dishes are tasty and fresh. This is a good place for dumplings or just some Chinese food. I often come here for broccoli beef, braised string beans, garlic eggplant and just rice. I also really like the Shanghai stir fried rice cakes, stir fried three specialties, walnut prawns and the Shanghai pan fried pork buns. It is an all around solid Chinese restaurant. Came here for a casual Saturday lunch. Place was full of patrons but we got seated rather quickly. Place looks newly remodeled, clean and comfortable. Servers were attentive, helpful and polite. Prices are reasonable. Quantity and quality of food is quite good. Every dish was flavorful, hot and pleasing to both the eyes and the palette. Bathrooms were clean, dry, and supplies were plentiful. We came today on a Sunday afternoon after we heard that they reopened after an inspection. We came as a group of 4 and we started off with the XLB's. The XLB's were hot and steamy and had a mouthful of soup. Super delicious. We then ordered the Shanghai Chow Mein, Dry-Fried Chicken Wings, and String Beans. These were the recommended dishes from our server. They were also super tasty and in our opinions, the food has flavor that not a lot of Chinese restaurants offer. The service was quick and amazing; the food came out fast. Also to mention, the ambiance of the dining floor is very aesthetic with great lighting along with a nice high ceiling. Came here for the first time today on a whim, and boy am I glad I did! The Shanghai-style chow mein, don't think about it JUST ORDER IT! The tastiest noods I've had in a while. Also order the xiao long bao, delicious... perfectly plops off the steamed tray and you can fit it all in your mouth in one bite without looking idiotic. The green onion pancakes were ok, the wonton in chili oil was DELISH, unique flavor. I appreciated that everything tasted fresh. The food: - XLB is good! One order of the regular Shanghai dumplings comes in 10, which is a decent amount. - Many Yelpers like the garlic pea sprouts. While flavors were good, the pea sprouts today were a bit old and too fibrous. - Roast squab was luke warm with almost no flavors. I'd skip next time. - Sizzling rice soup was decent, and rice certainly sizzled when adding to the soup! The soup had some pork and chicken slices and chopped bok choy in it. - Vegetarian goose appetizer was fine, likely store-bought and cut in thin slices to serve. Service was ok. I personally like the regular dumpling more, lots of filling to dumpling wrapper ratio. However my mom really loved the crispy pan fried ones! Salt and pepper chicken wings 4/5 Solid salt and pepper chicken wings, not the best i've had but they're still really good! Juicy flavorful wings, i think a bit on the too saltier side Clay Pot rice 4/5 A real clay pot rice! The rice on the bottom was crispy and flavorful, had pork and bok choy within the rice. So I only tried the Gua Bao, a Taiwanese street food only available in a handful of eateries around here, but wow! My mouth was treated to an explosion of flavors. I opted for the chicken (beef, veggie, options) which was lightly battered but well flavored and crispy. The bun was soft and had the right chew, adorned with lettuce leaf and shredded carrots and cucumbers with a drizzle of crushed peanuts. The sauce was spicy and they packaged it separately for takeout. The order came with two of these buns and quite enough to satisfy me for a quick dinner on the go. Speaking of which, they won't have the typical large tables of a Chinese restaurant and only have seating for two or fours on square tables. They connect two square tables and we just passed food around. Decor was modern, very clean as befitting a new restaurant. Definitely get the Xiao Long Bao. Paper thin skin bursting with juices. Restaurant also provided julienne ginger for everyone. Other items was are good was the five spice beef brisket noodle soup, salt and pepper chicken wings, dry braised string beans, and fried green onion pancake. I've been excited to try out this relatively new restaurant after seeing all the positive reviews. However, perhaps my expectations were too high as it left me a little disappointed. The food was fine. Nothing was bad, but it wasn't particularly flavorful either. We ordered the XLB, Sang Ji Bao, and Cabbage and Corn steamed dumplings. I did like the soup in the dumplings, but the meat filling in both the dumplings and the XLB was bland. As for the Sang Ji Bao, only the very bottom was crispy, the rest was soft. Usually the crispiness extends a little up the sides. The dough itself tasted good, but overall was disappointed. The ambiance was also a little strange. Although there were 4 or 5 other full tables, the restaurant was very quiet. Not sure if that's good or bad, but it was noticeable. Felt like I should keep my voice down so I wouldn't disturb anyone. As for the service, it was nothing particularly good or bad. Everything went smoothly. If I lived near here I would probably try it again, but given that it isn't any closer to me than Dumpling Kitchen on Taraval, I probably will just go there instead when I want similar cuisine. read more

My go to soup dumpling in the city. Why is it a 4 star instead of 5, please it is not always consistent with the same items we order. Not like it's bad but sometimes consistent is better. I still love this place. I recommend the soup dumplings of course, the original pork ones. I also recommended the pan fried pot-stickers, as well the shanghai style noodles and rice cakes. Love their salt and pepper fish and tofu. My friend comes here like once a month and I wouldn't mind if we come more often. The staff is always friendly. We ate there a number of times before the restaurant was closed by San Francisco because of infestations and lack of sanitation in the kitchen. We never had a problem, and the food was tasty. My wife and I had lunch after the reopening and were very disappointed. The restaurant was reasonably clean although one of the teacups at our table was dirty. The service was good, and we asked for hot tea and cold water. No problem. We ordered 2 dishes, and both were as cheaply made possible. The portions were generous. A pork dish consisted of cabbage, onions and about a tablespoon or pork bites. The dim sum was greasy with little in the way of fillings, and both were very salty. The bathroom was ok but needed to be cleaned. We left the restaurant with the taste of salt and grease in our mouths. I guess the forced closure for lack of sanitation resulted in a change of kitchen staff. In any event the food was ordinary at best, oversalted at worst and we will NOT return. read more
