The food was pretty good and the restaurant has a pretty nice atmosphere with some nice decor, but the dumplings on the menu did seem on the pricier side. I was surprised when we received some very plain looking dumplings. I would definitely recommend the pan-fried dumplings over the steamed ones. TAKEOUT EXPERIENCE: I picked up takeout during the coronavirus quarantine from the Brookline location. There is no dining-in option which is ok and understandable. I wouldn't have dined in anyway. So my review is directed at the pick up experience. First, this location is next door to Trader Joes so there were no parking spots available. I went on a Saturday around noon so there were no nearby parking spots either. I've gotten take out from other restaurants that will come out and put the food in your trunk if you call them when you're parked in front. For the Brookline location, that's what this restaurant should do to improve the takeout experience which is probably their main way of doing business currently. Second, since you need to park and enter the restaurant to pick up your food, everyone is touching the front door handle. There was a table at the front entrance blocking customers from coming in any further (also understandable to prevent infecting the staff). On the table are the takeout orders. The bag with my food was clearly labeled so it was relatively easy to pick up. The food items were well packaged in my order. The noodles were packed separate from the soup broth so they were fresher when combined at home. The dumplings came packed in a black plastic container with microwave safe clear tops (no mention about whether the black plastic container itself was safe to microwave but I will assume they are). I appreciated the microwave-safe packaging because most people are going to do some bit of microwaving to kill any coronavirus just in case. FOOD QUALITY: I thought the food was mediocre in quality. I don't think getting takeout (vs dining in) had that much impact on food quality since I ordered soups (easy to microwave) and dumplings (I just steamed them at home). I thought the food was ok (like 3 star ok) and similar to many other places in and around Boston. I wasn't particularly impressed with any of the noodle soups or dumplings that I ordered. Other Taiwanese restaurants have impressed me more with one or two items that would keep me from returning (such as the freshness of the dumpling skins or the mouth-watering experience of a perfect pork belly bun, etc.). I guess I was expecting more. However, don't get me wrong...I appreciate that they are an option in Brookline. Having stated my personal (adult) opinion on the food, I have to say that both my children liked the shrimp dumplings. My 8 yo son, who doesn't usually even like shrimp, said they were his favorite. My 5 yo daughter liked the glass noodle Grandma's Beijing Meat Sauce over Spaghetti. It was slightly sweet, and I think she liked slurping at the long glass noodles. ENVIRONMENT: It looked very clean inside. I only had a brief peak while picking up my food. All the tables and chairs were removed so there was bare floor between the entrance and the industrial-appearing kitchen toward the back. The facilities look modern and clean. read more

I had heard about Dumpling Daughter and had been wanting to try it out for a couple of weeks now. I finally went and was disappointed. The restaurant itself was very clean and the location was nice. I went for the dumplings but since I don't eat meat I wanted to try the vegetable dumplings. The woman taking my order said they were out of vegetable dumplings so I ended up getting the veggie spring rolls. They were okay, I've had better. I also ordered the vegetable ramen and it just wasn't good. The broth had a weird taste and it didn't have much flavor. It tasted very bland. I had a bubble tea which was pretty good. I might go back to try the dumplings and give this place another chance, but as of right now it's not a place I'd recommend. read more

Had the supreme honor of dining here with my fiance', her sister and the owner Nadia yesterday. Fun = magnificent. Place = cute and well laid out. Staff = top notch and ready to assist. O. M. G. I sat in 70 minutes of traffic to eat dinner here, and it was worth every second of sitting in my car. We ordered pork buns (holy **** they're delicious), taro bubble tea (one of the best I've ever had), and the 3-day pork ramen. The pork was like incredibly tender brisket - you barely had to touch it for the pieces to come apart. I ordered the regular chicken ramen and it was also amazing. I came here on a Sunday evening for dinner. The owner of this restaurant was really friendly (hence two stars). However, the food was subpar and overpriced. I ordered the following: 1. Three-day pork ramen ($12) Nothing really special. The egg was way overcooked. Compared with other Boston ramen places, such as Ganko Ittetsu or Santouka, the ramen here is a joke. 2. Pork buns (3 for $4) and pork and chive dumplings (6 for $6) These things were not much better than the frozen dumplings and buns you can buy in a supermarket. read more

If you want real authentic Dumplings, you have to try this place. I have tried every kind of dumpling they offer. I can't pick a favorite because they are all so good. The goji berry chicken soup is the owners mom's recipe. It was delicious and made me think of my mom's homemade chicken soup. My favorite item on the menu has to be the Pork Belly Buns. The pork was so tender and juicy and the sauce was fingerlicking good. I never had Pork Belly Buns as good as these anywhere else. Also, I can never come here with out grabbing a bubble Tea to go. I get the Black Sesame Bubble Tea with boba with extra ice. Being a college student this place made me feel at home when ever I came here. The food is home-made with secret family recipes. The staff is very happy to serve you. The dinning room is so artsy and homely. They even have beautiful pillows that make you feel comfortable while you eat, but yet give off the homely feeling. The staff is very friendly, and is quick to answer any questions about the menu, If you are indecisive like myself, they will help you make a final selection. Since I love this place so much, I bought one of their super soft t-shirts made from organic cotton. I love wearing this t-shirt and when they ask me about Dumpling Daughter, I always brag about how good the home-made food is. There is no other place like this. Love that it is s nut-free restaurant! I rotate between the chicken and Napa cabbage, pork and Napa cabbage dumplings and never leave without the Szechuan chicken dumplings. I also never leave without getting at least one or two of the varieties of steamed buns. My daughter's favorite is the Dan Dan Mien, my favorite is the fried rice and I usually get the bok choy to put on it and then I sometimes will drive by in the afternoon just to get a bubble tea. There were so many flavors but I prefer the simpler ones like the green tea. read more

I've bought dumplings from Chinese grocery stores in the United States that taste better than these dumplings. The Sichuan sauce chicken dumplings are made for Americans the sauce was sweet and disgusting. It should be spicy and hot. The BBQ pork buns taste they came out of the freezer. First time here. Drove in from Chelsea for a culinary adventure. Walked in and was not greeted - walked up to the counter after noticing the Order Here sign and looked at the menu. The woman at the counter was too busy with a personal phone call to bother greeting us. Another woman came behind the counter and took our order. Another couple walked up and got the grand treatment because it was their first time in (?!). Not cool, Dumpling Daughter. Onto the food. The pan seared pork and napa cabbage dumplings were nothing special. The soy sauce was served in cheap plastic to go containers. As I was eating, I noticed that the buns were in a large plastic bag and the woman putting them into the steamer handled the buns without gloves. Gross. Second time at Dumpling Daughter. We had take out there and it was excellent. The dining in experience was fun too, with many families there. The owner made a point to come over and welcome us and listen to our feedback on the food. This is our new "go to" place for well-made "real" Chinese food. This owner is clearly knowledgeable about quality sourcing ( Captain Mardens fish and interesting Chinese vegetables) and the quality show in the finished product. I think this place will just keep getting better, specials were especially good. You do order at the counter but then are served your dishes. Bring your wine and they will open and offer glasses. I only get Dan Dan noodles and sometimes spring rolls, and always to go. I call in the order from my car and the food is usually ready when I walk in. The people who work the counter are always very friendly and quick. I will add that I got Dan Dan noodles when they first opened and the quality was not there, dry and no flavor. After a year I tried again and they were fine, and have been fine since. After reading some of the other reviews here I will probably try some dumplings. read more

The food was fine but the cashier was SO RUDE. There wasn't even a line, but she kept staring at me impatiently, rolling her eyes when I was deciding what to order, and I wasn't even taking that long. Finally. somewhere to enjoy real chinese comfort food! These are the dishes we always ate at home, very nostalgic and comforting. What a hidden gem in Weston - finding the place is a feat in itself, but once you are there, they do not disappoint. We loved the pan fried dumplings - light wrappers (not doughy) and perfectly crisp with the right amount of filling. Hubby liked the steamed chicken ones but I'm partial to the traditional. The Coco wrap is probably my fave thing on the menu - crispy scallion pancake with marinated beef and hoison sauce - the combo is perfect and the best chinese sandwich I've ever had. The chicken soup made from scratch is legit - and coming from a chinese family, I know. The clear light colored broth is the giveaway - my son loved the noodles and even drank most of the broth. The Sally Ling's Spring Roll was awesome too - and don't forget the chinese donuts - the fried steamed buns with sweet milk, so decadent and different. So we have one member of the family who is now gluten free and the beef salad was phenomenal - and the fact that they label things GF was very helpful. It's so hard to find GF items with taste. Last but not least, the grandma's meat sauce -nothing takes me back to childhood like this dish and they nailed it. I almost expected my own grandma to waltz out of the kitchen. I met the owner, Nadia, and she was very sweet and enthusiastic. We joked that this was like going "home" without all the drama. She really wanted to bring a piece of her past into the lives of others and I truly hope she does well. Just off of the Pike, or 128, it may be an adventure to get there, but once you are there, it's totally worth it. read more

Being heavily influenced by the Asian cuisine my parents raised us on, my family was super excited when we heard that a Chinese restaurant would be opening in Weston Center. However, we were disappointed by the quality of the food after getting dinner from Dumpling Daughter on Saturday. We tried the dumplings, ramen, pork and beef buns, and "Grandma's Meat Sauce Over Spaghetti" which was really jia-jiang myun. The pan-fried dumplings were better than the steamed ones, however they sometimes had some suspicious, hard and small bone-like objects in them. They weren't really "good" dumplings, but they were greasy and sweet so the flavor was fine. The buns had very little meat actually in them as they were mostly air. The frozen ones from Chinatown are cheaper and better. The ramen was most disappointing-- Dumpling Daughter was quite ambitious to try to cater both dumplings and ramen in the same house as a new restaurant, but I have to say that this was the most salty broth I've ever had, though the noodles themselves were good. The jia-jiang myun was salty as well, but not as bad as the ramen, as the flavor was still pretty good. It's a pretty expensive place given what it is and has small serving sizes when it comes to the dumplings and buns. They offer dumplings at $1 a piece and only six per serving. I'd like to see some non-carb dishes added to their menu as well. When asked what vegetable dishes they had, they offered cucumber salad or sticky rice with red beans; neither of which is a vegetable or a substantial dish. Chinese take-out is usually unhealthy/greasy but delicious and cheap, however, what Dumpling Daughter offered was rather awful and expensive (dinner came out to be $50 for three people). I certainly hope that this place can improve the quality of their food and give merit to what their intentions are. read more

I can't believe all the positive reviews here; there were so many things wrong with this place I don't know where to begin. 1. The ambience is most unpleasant, more like a McDonalds than anything else. 2. You go up to the counter to order and then they bring the food to your table. Fine, but none of the workers seem to know what's going on--no line, no sense of organization, the wrong food arrives. We had to go back to the counter and beg for paper plates and straws. We had to plead for some soy sauce and chili oil. 3. The food is mediocre. Not disgusting, but not good. I've had much better buns out of the freezer compartment at the Super 88. The dumplings were ok, but small. I've had better dumplings out of the freezer as well (for a tenth of the price). The shrimp rice bowl was a few shrimp in a gooey sauce on some sort of crisped rice that tasted more like a building material than food. The Dan Dan noodles consisted of a couple tablespoons of jarred bean paste over Prince spaghetti. Dreadful. 4. There are some good Chinese restaurants in the suburbs now. My current favorite is the Sichuan Gourmet on Rte 9 in Framingham (and their satellite in Brookline). Go there instead. It's a day later and I'm still angry. Went here for my first time yesterday on a recommendation from a friend. I ordered the Filet Mignon rice bowl, and the chicken ramen soup. Rice bowl was good- heavy on the black pepper, and the meat was slightly tough and overcooked- but it was alright. However, at a whopping $28 it's not nearly worth the price. Not worth half the price! The chicken soup at $12 was ok too, but not great. The brown eggs in it were gross, and left the entire dish with a very foul taste and smell. And there was barely any chicken. Overall I was not pleased, and will probably not venture there again. read more

This was one of the really good places I've been to around Needham and Newton. Their service is really good although there's a bit of hurriedly process of ordering the meal. My Taiwanese dining guest and I decided to take a drive and head here to get some variation from the Boston XLB/soup dumplings scene, and went off the vibrant reviews of the place, and oof, what a let-down. To start, the gua bao (braised pork belly) was incredible, and honestly worth a drive back for takeout. We also got the "spaghetti with grandma's meat sauce" which is akin to a pasta ragu. I didn't care for it much, but I was told it was very nostalgic of a Taiwanese grandma's cooking, and for that craving really hit the spot for her. Leading up to the soup dumplings, we found the seating to be a bit odd, and lots of people seemed to be confused whether to bus their own table, sit, or wait to be seated. We followed someone else's lead, but some signage or staff help would have been useful. It was also *freezing* anywhere by the door, and they're sorely in need of a heavy curtain to keep the cold out. It really killed the enjoyment of the ambiance for us completely. Okay so, then the XLB's come, and every single one is broken. We have no soup. No soup for you. Our server can clearly see them, and no one including her bothered to do some quality control and have the kitchen fix it. We also don't see a server for the rest of our meal, so we eat a few, and I share the fried rice with my guest (which was tasty enough, and "pretty legit.") Overall, this is a nice local spot, but if we came back, it would be for the gua bao and maybe trying the other baos. It wasn't super enjoyable to sit in the space, and by halfway through the meal, the place was chock full of kids, and people waiting like vultures for a table (and because there's no staff direction, some were a bit rude in how close and obviously they were hovering.) We left feeling disappointed, (and me actually a bit sad that my soup dumpling craving was sorely not satisfied)... comforted only by a good bao... TL;DR: Good for locals, don't go out of your way, inspect your XLBs the second they're set down, and get the pork belly, or two. Two stars for the tasty bao, nil for the rest of the sad, let-down experience. Oh also, seems to be BYOB, good to note beforehand. read more

I love dumplings and noodle bowls!! First of all the decor is super cute and modern with a hint of Chinese flare. The owner and staff are incredibly friendly to everyone that walks through the door. You can see the staff hand making everything in the back. The menu is simple and delicious. Classic steamed buns, dumplings, rice and noodle bowls. Good loose leaf tea served in individual French press pots. We were starving so we ordered two orders of pan fried dumplings one chicken one pork. I think I liked the pork better if I had to choose but they were both crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. A serving of the BBQ pork buns, the dough was perfectly soft and chewy. I had the Three Day Pork ramen and boyfriend had the organic chicken ramen. Both were plentiful, flavorful and beautifully presented. Not overly salty just clean healthy ingredients and flavors. While we were there many people came in for take out it was very busy early on a Saturday night. A few sat in and enjoyed the small dining room. Being a dumpling aficionado, I had to visit after hearing about this place on Phantom Gourmet. Good, authentic dumplings in Weston, MA? Yeah, alright... Regardless, I took the 35 minute drive out to Weston to see what it was all about. The restaurant is part of a little mini-mall next to a main street that still looked like it was in the middle of nowhere. It was a nice, little spot that looked ideal for a lunch stop. We ordered at the counter and were given a number to take to our table. Soon enough, dishes were pouring out onto our table. We ordered the Crab Rangoons, Pork and Napa Cabbage Dumplings, Steam Roasted BBQ Pork Buns, Golden Fried Buns with Condensed Milk, Braised Pork Belly Taiwanese Buns, Three-Day Pork Ramen and then the Green Tea and Thai Iced Tea Boba. The rangoons were light, crispy and very clean tasting. Very delicious and multiple notches above your standard Chinese take-out place. The pork dumplings were some of a best I've had. Nicely fried and crispy on one side and packed with a delicious pork and cabbage mix. The BBQ pork buns were okay, I have high standards since I get these all the time at China Pearl and they're top notch. The bun was a little too chewy and there wasn't an abundance of meat on the inside. There was definitely an imbalance there. The fried buns were a delicious dessert. Basically fried mini dough balls covered in sweetened condensed milk. Other than my minor (major) heart attack, nothing negative about these fried balls of deliciousness! The pork belly buns... my god. I've had a good amount of pork belly buns and these were definitely some of the best. Good chunk of pork belly, soft and sweet bun, and delicious glaze. These melt in your mouth and are a must get if you go here. Lastly, I found the ramen to be very tasty. It isn't comparable to places like Ippudo or Momofuku but it is a very solid bowl of ramen. The broth was light and tasty and they give you a lot of meat and noodles. Not the best dish here but definitely good. Overall, this trip was a great experience. It was clean and streamlined, the food came out quickly, they have a big menu, the service was very friendly and warm and most importantly, the food was delicious. The only gripe I have with this place is that the prices are a little high compared to other comparable places. The food was delicious and mostly excellent but it should be a little cheaper. Being located in Weston too, I doubt I'd end up coming here over places in Chinatown if I'm not in the area. Whenever I am back in the area this will be my first stop! read more

Got take out. Staff friendly, everything looked great smell was great, thus had great expectations. Alas could not give 5, let alone 4 star. I am Asian, lived in Hong Kong, traveled to China, etc.... Also sort of Asian foodie in Boston and New York area. My wife and I had pork belly bun, Grandma's ... spaghetti, and Beijing braised beef noodle soup. Our conclusion was that everything was TOO SWEET (not to be confused with "tout suite"). The sweetness was as sweet as Haagen Das ice cream, which one would expect from any Asian cuisine. Was this one off situation just for my orders? Or was the chef not feeling well? I am debating to see if I should give it another chance. But right now I have a bit of headache from the extreme sweet Chinese from Dumpling Daughters. :-( read more

I so wanted to love this place. The concept is great, the space is beautifully done, all of the artwork and visuals are beautiful. The area is a vast wasteland for decent food, and this place is right on my commute home. I could easily have seen it becoming a twice-a-week dinner stop. The food, however, is bland and boring. The first time we went we were told it would take an hour and twenty minutes to pack up some dumplings, so we passed. Two subsequent visits worked out better, in that we got food. Most recently I ordered all of the different dumpling varieties, two different kinds of pork buns and Grandma's spaghetti and sauce. The chicken and cabbage dumpling was OK, the rest of the order was completely forgettable. The spicy dumplings weren't. The rest just had nothing to recommend them, no improvement over the frozen dumplings from the H Mart, and in most cases not as flavorful -- at a perhaps 10X premium in price. The wrappers are nice, everything seemed fresh, but the fillings just don't pop in any way. Ultimately worth neither the calories nor the price. read more
