This place gives you mom/pop home vibes, and I love it! They were playing old school Chinese songs, and that already hit my soul. I was even more excited to try out the food. I ordered wonton soup, soup dumplings, and cucumber salad. Wonton soup: Very light, which I enjoy. It tasted very clean and not oily like some others I've had. Cucumber salad: Chilled, refreshing. I'm a sucker for some good chilled cucumber salad! It was crunchy and the flavor was tasteful. Soup dumplings: Hmm...It tasted like it has been sitting out for a while. I've had Dumpling Era a number of times now. The one thing that really sets them apart from other northern style Chinese restaurants is how fresh their dough tastes. From their hand pulled noodles to xiao long bao to dumplings, they all taste as if they were just made, which brings so much comfort and joy to me. The pandemic has amplified how much I enjoy some foods. Noodles and dumplings to name a couple. Sharing some of my favorites from here: - Beijing style bean paste noodles with knife cut noodles - Pork and napa dumplings (boiled) - I prefer boiled over pan fried ones here - Pork and chive dumplings (boiled again) - Sweet and sour baby back ribs I was so happy to discover Dumpling Era close to our home. It's a quick drive to pick up our food. Speaking of picking up, I'm a big fan of how they've set-up their restaurant. There are two large tables that are sectioned for each delivery service. You'll see signs for Grubhub and Uber Eats to pick up their orders. Customers for pick-up are also cognizant of social distancing. It looks like the restaurant pivoted and adapted very well to the pandemic. I usually include a pack or two of their frozen dumplings to take home because I can't get enough of their dumplings! I was craving dumplings for dinner, was in the area, found this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try. I ordered online and got the food in about 15-20 minutes. The parking situation is not good, there's only very limited street parking but fortunately it was quick for pickup. I ordered a pork dumpling with corn, and a beef pancake (which is not the same as the beef roll pancake, that's what got me confused). The dumplings were on par with other dumplings I've tried, but nothing too special. I ate the dumplings on the spot in the car and it was piping hot so I guess that was nice. The beef pancakes were just alright. I was expecting some more filling (green onions or something) based on their menu pictures but it's literally just some beef wrapped in what tastes like fried dumpling skin, like a calzone. I wish it came with more than 12 dumplings in an order so I could've eaten more. Always great with black vinegar. Beef Roll Pancake - A little soggy but that might have been because I got it to go and it was a while before eating them. Flavor was great and I liked the ratio of beef to cucumbers. Garlic Baby Bok Choy - I was a little disappointed in the bok choy as the dish was a little watery and there wasn't enough garlic taste to the bok choy. May have to try them again next time for dine in. Beef Chow Mein - Could have used a little more flavor but it was still delicious. The noodles were well cooked and not stuck together. Came here for the very first time with my friend! There's street parking and a Walgreens across the street. The service is friendly. The restaurant wasn't too busy when I arrived, which was around 12:30pm. The restaurant is a bit small, but there were plenty of seats when we arrived. It was also not noisy at all when we got there. The items here are pretty affordable! We ordered the Shanghai soup dumplings and the beef roll pancake. Both items were very delicious. The soup dumplings had a good amount of soup in them. The waitress also gave us some ginger and vinegar to pair with the soup dumplings. The beef roll was very good. I just wish it came with some dipping sauce. I liked how fresh the cucumbers inside the beef rolls were. I also liked the crispiness of the pancake part of the roll itself. It wasn't too thick of a batter and not too thin where the roll falls apart. The beef wasn't dry. Everything came out steaming hot, which is the way I like it! I do wish there was a bit more meat and cucumber in the rolls. I also feel like some julienne cut green onions would really elevate the beef pancake rolls! (I wish they added that). I would definitely love to come here again to try other dishes, whenever I'm in town. I have been here a couple times and each time is always really good. The restaurant is always picks up immediately via phone or accepts my orders instantly on door dash. I'd been craving some good dumplings recently and since Dumpling Era was close to where we were running an errand, we decided to drop by for take-out. We got lucky and got a spot right in front of the restaurant. Pick up was a breeze as our order was ready, and they had it out on a table in front. Unfortunately, the food was not to my tastes. I will grant that our food was ready earlier than expected so by the time we got it home, it had been in the box for a while. That's why I feel like I can't comment on the texture of the dumpling skins since it wasn't under optimal conditions. The dumpling filling was fine, maybe a bit denser than I'd like on the texture. Overall, much better than the frozen ones from the super market but nothing spectacular. I'd recommend the dumplings if you live close by, but not something to go out of your way for. The cold dishes were less enjoyable. Since the dishes are cold, they shouldn't have been as affected by the travel home. The spicy liang pi cold noodles were a bit mushy. It tasted like it was heavier on the five spice than on the chili spice and wasn't very spicy at all. [COVID delivery order] I've been craving some hand pulled noodles for a while, so I decided to finally order from Dumpling Era. I ordered delivery thru Grubhub, where they have a promo for $5 off your first order. I ordered the oxtail torn noodles and the spicy beef tendon. The food arrived super quickly and ahead of schedule (within 30 minutes of the order being placed & the restaurant is 10 minutes away from me). The order was 100% correct and the food was hot when it arrived. I would totally order from Dumpling Era again if I'm hungry and want food fast. Oxtail torn noodles - The soup arrived hot and the noodles were in a separate container. I was surprised that this was actually a soup. Other items on the menu were designated "noodle soup" but this was not. Nonetheless, the broth was tasty. I could definitely taste the beefy/ox tail flavor and the broth felt very clean as well. They included 5 pieces of ox tail and 1 piece of bok choy (cut in half). I was happy with the amount of oxtail provided but the meat was a bit chewy & a little difficult to eat. I was hoping for a fall-off-the-bone pressure cooked texture. I would have liked more bok choy included as well. Noodles tasted fresh and had a great chewy texture. Spicy beef tendon - This is a cold appetizer dish, so I'm glad that they bagged it separately from the oxtail noodle soup. Looks like your standard spicy beef tendon: thin slices of beef tendon, marinated in chili oil, topped with cilantro & sesame seeds. It was pretty good but not my favorite. (I've tried a lot of spicy beef tendon in my life because it is one of my favorite Chinese appetizers!) The dish was topped with a lot of ground Sichuan peppercorn (not mixed in). I typically like this peppercorn flavor but I prefer this dish to be more on the chili oil side as opposed to the peppercorn side. I also would have liked it to be spicier! Summary - Food was a 3.5, but rounded up to 4 for excellent pandemic delivery experience. I liked the oxtail torn noodle soup. Dumpling Era is a bit of a hole in the wall place that serves absolutely wonderful dumplings, noodles, and other Chinese foods at an incredibly affordable price. First things first, parking can be a bit rough for this place given that it is located on the busy El Camino Real and right at a mid-block traffic light intersection. My criticisms more or less end there though. The interior has a good number of tables fit for both small and large groups. There usually shouldn't be much of a wait either as I've noticed there have typically been around 2-3 tables occupied when I arrive on Saturday nights. What I've noticed more often are a ton of delivery and take-out orders. What I absolutely love about this place is that all their dumplings and noodles are clearly homemade and made very well. There is a little area by the counter where customers can sometimes see a worker diligently wrapping a bunch of dumplings. These dumplings can be ordered in a variety of ways whether that be pan-fried or boiled/steamed and they're all good and priced very affordably. They even offer the dumplings frozen as well for those who want to buy several packs to keep in their freezer to make at home at their own convenience. Many of these dumplings also go very well with their orange chili sauce which is very spicy and very flavorful. I've tried several of their noodles and one of my favorites is there dan dan noodles which have a slight numby spiciness to them and a nice umami peanut flavor as well. The addition of bits of ground meat make it just perfect. Other noodles I enjoy are their black bean noodles and their pork and veggies soup noodles. My friend and I were come back down from SF and we were hungry so we were looking for places on yelp to eat. This was on the way so we decided to give this place a try. The food wasn't tooooo bad but it wasn't toooo good either. Pretty mediocre. The star of the show had to be the fried tofu. Other than that, the dumplings and walnut shrimp were alright. I did enjoy the hot and sour soup as well, and kind of the spicy wontons but that's about it. It did hold us off until dinner time. My brother picked this place because of the reviews. I give it a 2.5 stars. Nothing special, just ok. Two things that were good - the beef roll was filled with beef and cucumbers and tasted like hoisin sauce inside the crispy, flaky roll. You don't find this at many places, so it is good to find this. Wontons were good, and soup was just ok with thick kind of noodles and plenty of baby bok choy. Green beans were good but you can see the pool of oil. Rest of the food was just ok. I was excited to see San Tung wings here, but it didn't taste exactly because you can taste more vinegary taste ( don't notice a vinegary flavor at SanTung restaurant with their wings). It was decent with lots of garlic and sweet/vinegary taste. The Shanghai dumplings and the pan fried Dumpling baos were ok- nothing special. Normally I love these, you can't go wrong, but it was just ok. If I had to choose one to order, the pan fried one was better. Egg rolls are typical like the frozen kind- so would not order this again. Jajiang mein( note not one of my favored dishes usually, but my brother likes this dish but he even said it was meh) was lacking flavor even with the bean sauce. Their hot sauce kind of looked like the mayo siracha color, it was ok- didn't like it that much-kind of chunky like - did not look appetizing to me or taste good. It looks like a hole in the wall where usually you find the tasty foods often, but this was mediocre at best. This place mirrors the dumpling empire in South San Francisco. If you enjoy the hot sauce there, don't fret, they have it here too! If you love the dumplings, be sure to buy some frozen ones to cook at home! A few items I tried are the 7 color tofu, squid ink dumpling, beef noodle soup, and beef knife cut noodles. 7 color tofu: 3/5 while the tofu was nice and crispy, I wasn't impressed with the mountain of toppings on top. Personally it was a little too salty. Squid ink dumpling: 5/5 yup, tastes exactly like the other location. Definitely worth a try. The skin wasn't too thick for a dumpling and there was ample stuffing inside. Beef noodle soup: 4/5 the noodles here are an improvement in comparison to the other place, but personally the broth was a little on the light side. I kept seeing this place so I wanted to give it a try. I ordered take out - knife cut noodle with chicken, and a West Lake beef soup. Honestly I was not a fan of the noodle. When I read knife cut noodle, I thought it was hand cut noodle but it tasted more like slightly chewier chow fun. I was hoping to get something that was more northern Chinese - doughy, chewy, qq taste when you bite it, but more than anything it was a skinnier, lighter chow fun. The west lake beef soup was also filled with pepper - a little too much and over powered the beef taste. But for $10 it was not too bad given the other restaurant I go to is around $14 and I'm not even a fan. All in all - the dumplings looked good but I wasn't in the mood for dumplings. My family tried many of the dumplings, I didn't care for the veggie one that much, but it seemed like the e shanghai dumpling was the winner. Their LiangPi was really bad. I was a bit skeptical going here after seeing their 58% health score, but then I thought that if it was that bad they would just have shut that place down. There is limited parking out front of the restaurant. In the new COVID environment they only offer carry out or delivery. I did the carryout option. I placed my order online through Yelp and it was ready, sitting on a table with my name on it, when I got there. There was no interaction with the staff, just grab and go. I had the Chicken Dumpling with Corn in Spinach Wrapper and the San Tung Style Chicken Wings. The food was ok. It was not the best i ever had or anything to go out of my way for, but it was edible. If you love dumplings, you will LOVE this place! I'm always searching for new dumpling spots in the bay area, and this one definitely exceeded my expectations. Their XLB (soup dumplings) had a perfect amount of wrapper and soup, even though I got take out we ate this dish right away in the car lol for the optimal fresh experience. Also tried the pork with shrimp and chive dumplings (delicious) and chicken with cabbage dumpling (also a solid choice!). The pan-fried soup dumpling was also good but probably would have been better if we ate it right away (will definitely order again next time and try that). Besides dumplings, also tried the beef tendon appetizer, salted egg chicken wings (this dish is so unique!! must try here), and knife cut noodles with beef (also amazing). Every dish was 10/10 and I would order all of them again. Oh and the spicy sauce they give on the side is also really good, spicier than I thought it would be but added a nice kick to the meal. This is definitely what they call a "hole in the wall" spot. I entered through the parking lot, and the pathway is through the KITCHEN which I thought was a bit odd that they allowed customers to walk pass this area. If you can't find parking in the front, there's parking in the back of the building. If you link your card on groupon, you can get some cash back. There may also be 20% cash back on groupon+ as well. We ordered seven dishes and it was a perfect amount of food. We got three orders of Xiao Long Bao (XLB - soup dumplings) and one order of regular dumplings. They were both just average. Not sure how to describe it but wasn't a huge fan of the flavor of the soup in the XLB. It seemed really fatty/greasy. I really enjoyed the beef knife cut noodles. Our order included: Crispy tofu (seven color), Sweet and Sour Pork Baby Back Ribs, Shanghai Pan Fried Soup Dumpling, Beef Chow Mein, and Hot Spicy Shredded Pork. Perhaps because I'm from Shanghai, I have a higher standard for food categorized as "Shanghai" food. I definitely enjoyed crispy tofu because of its crispy skin and interesting spices they put on. Sweet and sour pork baby back ribs is a traditional Shanghainese dish. But Dumpling era's version isn't quite Shanghainese. It's more like stewed meat, tender and soft. They also added star anise, which made it not so authentic. But I get it. Dumpling era is not a Shanghainese restaurant. :) Beef Chow Mein is our favorite. Just the way it should taste like. Dumpling era has a lot of noodle and dumpling selections but limited "wok" selection. I would go back and try a few more different dishes. read more

This place is a nothing fancy when you come in and eat. Dumpling Era is close to my work so I try to make it to eat Beef Noodle Soup, Onion Pan cake, dumplings and some hand toss noodle of some kind. I have to say they all taste very homemade and good. It is one of the best in the bay area. The skins on the dumplings are very good, and the noodles you can tell are hand made. I have no yet tried everything else on their menu, but I'm looking forward to it. As I was eating there I also saw lot and lots of Doordash orders to go. People where ordering food to go and some customers would stop in an buy the frozen dumplings and the Xiao long baos and take it home and cook it. There is that option too. Price point is average, and if you pay cash they have a 10% discount on the bill. Parking is street parking, and I can usually find one pretty close to the restaurant.
