We found Dumpling Hours on yelp after making the trip to Brentwood to pick cherries from San Jose. We were skeptical about this place since were spoiled from having such good dumplings in sj and Cupertino. We were pleasantly surprised! We ordered pork potstickers, pork XLB, sesame and chili wontons, and pan fried pork buns. The vegetarian springrolls were complimentary! The skins on the dumplings were really thin with a good bite. Overall flavors were mild and pretty good! If we are ever in the area again we would skip on the sesame and chili dumplings- we weren't w fan of how peanutbuttery it was. My favorites were the regular pork XLB and pan fried pork buns- they pack a lot of soup in them! Our waitress was extremely kind and overall made us smile by how warm she was. Had dinner here yesterday. It was decently busy especially for a Thursday early evening but not crowded or loud. The building is cute, I like the artwork! We ordered the fried chicken (wings) appetizer, juicy pan fried pork buns, shrimp and pork potstickers, and egg fried rice. Ended up being plenty of food for just the 2 of us and we had to take about half home. The wings were amazing, definitely my husbands favorite. Fried perfectly so the skin was crunchy and coated in a sweet & spicy sauce. Wasn't too sweet or too spicy, just right. The juicy pan fried pork buns were my favorite and are always a hit! They stay pretty hot on the inside with the liquid but cool down pretty quickly once you poke them/bite into them. The potstickers I thought were alright. They were open ended so tended to have the ingredients almost slide out one end. I would've preferred them to be a bit more crispy and had just a pork option (instead of pork and shrimp) but they weren't bad. Lastly the egg fried rice (which I didn't get a photo of) was a little disappointing. It looked more like steamed rice with egg rather than fried, and tasted kind of mushy. It was a bit lacking in flavor, would have liked some garlic or onion flavor in there. It was better when topped with the pork bun juice or soy sauce. Next time we want to try the noodles instead! Overall we had a good experience dining in. When you're done you just go up to the counter (without a bill) and they calculate your total there and you pay. Kinda nice so you don't have to wait for the bill, you can just get up to pay whenever you're ready. We ended up spending about $60 for the 2 of us for the wings, 2 dumplings, and fried rice. Omg! This is the best place EVER. I cannot wait for a location to open near me. I loved every single item we ordered. We started off with the cucumber salad. We got one of everything to taste. However, my favorite dumpling was the pork one. I really did enjoy the food, and I couldn't stop eating even when I was sooooo full. The location in Berkeley is scheduled to open soon (I think) and honestly. I can't wait! Get a little bit of everything so you won't feel like you missed out. We went cherry picking in Brentwood. We didn't know the eateries in the area. We came across a small Chinese resto, Dumpling Hours. Being exposed to great Chinese foods in the Oakland and San Francisco area, this dumpling house was actually very good. We had their pan fried potstickers, hot and sour soup and Dan Dan sesame dry paste noods. The noods were freshly made. Go try Dumpling Hours if you live here or are passing through. Starting off with the GREAT Juicy Pan Fried Dumplings . They legit EXPLODE flavor in your mouth. Hands down the best thing I've had here. I do love their green beans but $15 is too steep for me considering I can buy a whole bag and do this at home for cheap. I understand the dumplings being expensive bc they're hand made, but we got weird peanut butter on our pork wontons w/ Red Chili sauce . It didn't even taste or feel like peanut sauce, just peanut butter. The problem with that is it wasn't even supposed to be on there according to the food item description. This is a really huge deal for people with peanut allergies and could be dangerous if someone just put peanut butter in random dishes. My new favorite restaurant! Had to be in Antioch for business and tried this place with a friend. I have been there twice now and can't wait to go back! The service is fast and friendly and the food is unbelievably delicious and the presentation is great. Both times I went I tried different things and took recommendations from the server. The cucumber salad is so refreshing, the shumai is tasty, the green onion pancakes are delicious, all the xiao long bao on the menu is amazing and the juicy pan-fried pork buns are out of this world! We were in the mood for Chinese food, but didn't want the typical generic stuff. We had heard good things about Dumpling Hours so decided to give them a try. We were wary of the menu items because of our unfamiliarity with much of the terminology, but the server was very helpful and friendly and helped us make our choices. The steamed Hot & Spicy Pork Xiao Long Bao and was delicious! Very delicate and crazy with flavor! The Juicy Pan Fried Pork Buns were also amazing! Not what I imagined, so I was totally impressed with the flavor and texture. A word of warning, these came to our table very hot, so let them cool a little before taking a bite, otherwise, you might squirt the hot juices on yourself (or neighbor!) Also got the Dan Dan Sesame Paste Dry Noodles, which was good but not what we were expecting. Hidden amongst The Shops in Brentwood is the best kept secret in Contra Costa. The folks at Dumpling Hours craft the most authentic of authentic soup dumplings (小籠包 or XLB). Scalding and bursting with pork flavor soup in a finely molded, not too thin or thick, casing. A heft ball of pork and veggies. Everything fresh and working harmoniously. One cannot find them as good as Dumpling Hours (or its sister restaurant in San Francisco) outside of Shanghai or Taipei. Not in New York. Or LA. It's right here, and it's in our backyards. Also, the dumplings and fried dumplings were just as thoughtfully prepared as the XLB. Wings were crunchy and packing umami. Jellyfish and tofu skin salad were refreshing. Pork buns came really quickly but we are not fan of it because its skin is not crispy at all. Xiao long bao came really slow but it's really good and one of the best ones I have ever had. Then I read some reviews and drooled over photos! Came on a Thursday after 1. Was greeted and seated upon entering. Place had a few patrons. Music overhead was light and there is a huge tv on one end of the room that was set to the Lifetime channel. We were seated at a half booth table for 4. There were 3 of us. One of us is vegetarian so in searching on Yelp that was one of the pre-req's...some vegetarian options. We ordered the following: For apps: 1. Fried spring rolls (vegetarian): did what it needed to. Crunchy, fresh ingredients and paired with a side of sweet and sour for dipping pleasure. 2. Pork wontons: These were cute delicious pouches of pork meatballs fried in a wonton wrapper. 3. Cucumber and garlic: Refreshing and always a must! Great palate cleanser. For hunger quenching: 1. Pork XLB (8 pc): juicy, oh so JUICY! Delicious! 2. Vegetarian dumpling (8 pc): filling was delicious. Great ratio of all the things you want stuffed in a veggie dumpling. 3. Pan Fried Pork Bun: these reminded me of christmas stockings. I don't know why. But these suckers retain their heat so beware! Definitely a scorcher. 4. Crab and Shrimp XLB (4 pc): these were substantially bigger than the pork XLB but delicious nonetheless. 5. Garlic Green beans: crispy and vibrant in collar. Garlicky delicious! 6. Crispy Honey Chicken Wings: batter was oh so crispy and did not weigh the chicken down. That honey sauce was sticky and complimentary to the deep frying. So when we visited there was a promo that if you ordered $75 worth of food you were gifted an order of their Crispy Honey Chicken Wings. Such a delicious gift! Customer service was wonderful. Waitress kept out water glasses filled and checked on us a couple times. The only thing disappointing is the lack of sweets or desserts.
