Can order cold or hot with sugar on the side. Xiao long bao 4.5/5 - I'm pretty picky about xlb and I am partial to the Shanghainese style (vs Taiwanese style you get at DTF and other places) and this was surprisingly good. Before this, my fav in the bay area was I-Shanghai Delight and honestly I think this might rival it. Filling and soup were both savory and light and incredibly umami. Maybe the wrapper at I-Shanghai is a bit thinner but honestly not a huge difference to me. Would def recommend if you like this style. Braised minced eel 5/5 - OMG this was the highlight of the meal for me, and I think only ppl who like this eel dish would understand. I honestly have not found good Shanghainese stir fried eel anywhere else in the Bay area. Chef Zhao's version was good once upon a time but then the most recent time we went, it tasted weird and not fresh. I-Shanghai Delight's was also no good (not fresh). This is the one dish that I will keep coming back here for. Razor clams with ginger and scallion 5/5 - This was also a crowd fav. I don't love clams usually but these were big and meaty and tender, and the sauce is what you would expect. Highly recommend Stewed yellow croaker soup with pickles 3/5 - This was ok and could've been better. Flavor of the soup was good but I think the fish tasted a bit overcooked/dry and could've been more tender. Shredded pork with wild rice shoot 4/5 - This was fine and a very traditional Chinese dish. Nicely done but nothing amazing. Red bean pancake 4/5 - This was a good dish, just not what I expected. I like the red bean pancakes where the pancake part is more doughy while this was like VERY crispy. But the flavor was good Lastly, the lady who took care of our table was SO nice and so chatty and so patient, despite the usual chaos and indecision of large family gatherings. She also packed up all the food for us and even gave suggestions for surrounding Chinese supermarkets. We took one of their specials which was a spicy fish dish. We asked for extra spicy and boy, did they deliver. Holy cow. And the dish was the size of Texas. Great flavor though - they coated the flounder and fried it first, then put all that sauce on along with vegetables. The other dish we got was a stir fry green bean dish that was done well, crisp tender with a flavorful sauce. For this price, I expected a skimpy portion, but all the main courses are full sized. Compared to their regular menu, this is an absolute steal. Among the dishes we've tried so far, the braised tofu with crab was outstanding as it included a generous portion of silken tofu with a flavorful, creamy crab sauce. The ginger-scallion poached chicken was also tender and topped with a salty ginger-scallion sauce that was particularly good over rice. The stir-fried greens with black mushrooms were fresh and well-cooked. The stir-fried wallaby was also excellent. The Shanghai fried rice cakes was not the typical pork and cabbage stir-fried version that we expected and had more of a singular flavor only. The Shanghai-style braised duck with soy sauce was also overcooked and tough, which was disappointing. So giving them a 4.5 for service/ambiance and a 3.5 for the food overall, as the dishes we liked were ones we would definitely want to eat again but there were enough dishes that were not at the same quality level and at a higher price point than other Chinese restaurants in the area. The food was decent overall, and the soup dumplings were the best thing we ordered. Unfortunately, the service left a lot to be desired. The teapot had only a few tea leaves, so the tea lacked any flavor. no soup bowls when the soup came , and no one came by to replace our dirty plates during the entire meal. Even after we requested clean plates, the staff simply set them on the table without clearing the dirty ones. They only removed the used plates after we specifically asked. The waitress never came back after took the order. Perhaps the restaurant feels no need to provide attentive service since a 20% gratuity is automatically added to the bill. I'm changing my review due to last visit a couple days ago. I normally only focus on food unless something drastic happened in service that makes me not wanting to go back. We had a party of six and I do know that many restaurants add tip to the tab automatically but my two biggest problem is that first the tip is added post tax which is already wrong. No, sales tax shouldn't be counted for tip amount. The second problem is the amount which is 20%. I believe it's way overcharging for the service we received. They didn't box the leftover nor did they replace my plates with new ones even once. Even the initial water was poured ourselves from the jug. Asking 20% post tax is basically scamming in my view. Btw even with inflation the tip % shouldn't have been raised from the standard dinner 15% to 18-25% nowadays. That's not how percentage works. Anyways, now let's talk about the food. The Peking duck sauce is way way too sweet. The smoked fish is fried ok but fish itself is not fresh. The spicy fish filet uses the cheapest fish filet with barely enough pieces. Most of the items we had were overly sweet, which I was totally okay with, but my diabetic parents just couldn't stop making comments/ complaints about the food being too sweet and too greasy. Been wanting to try this place for a long time. Wifey and I met up a friend who started working in Pleasanton for a Tuesday night dinner. Got distracted and forgot to take photos of the food haha. noOb mistake. We ended up ordering the boiled fish with bean sprouts in hot chili oil, Shanghai-style deep-fried noodles, and cumin beef. The boiled fish was really good but lacked the numbing spiciness I was expecting. The Shanghai-style deep-fried noodles were okay. Think deep-fried chow mein noodles but with the texture of funnel cake topped with corn starchy toppings that made the noodles soggy. Meh. Lastly was the cumin beef. I liked this dish the most. Strongly seasoned beef with onions and peppers. Despite being a slow Tuesday with only two other tables, service was another miss. I had to ask for rice several times. But what really upset me was that I had to ask for ice water at least 5 times. I mean, when you name a restaurant Fiery Shanghai, the customers would liked to have some water to cool down the "fire". Speaking of fires, maybe the workers were trained by the City of Los Angeles because they acted like there was no water. I literally had to walk to the register and ask for ice water. No new customers came in the restaurant after 7:30 pm on a Saturday evening. I felt bad for them at first. But after the meal, I realized what the issue was. The food here is good, but no service at all except the server took you to the table. 2 stars taken away because the service is reaaaaaaaalllllly bad. My party needed to call the waitress to get tea refill and get the check. No one came check on us for the whole meal. Since the food here is good, I think the owner should either re-train the existing staff or re-hire some professional servers to attract more businesses. My party ordered 8 dishes. Tried this place a few months ago when we didn't know what to eat. Came by here after outlet shopping! We got the $88 for two duck dishes. We had the crispy roasted duck and made the second dish to salt and pepper! We got to watch the chef live performance in front of us to cut the duck into small pieces and we roll them up with the Chinese tortillas giving to us! They were both yummy! We went on Christmas evening; it was busy, but we got seated quickly. The waiters were very friendly, and even when the service was slow since the restaurant was packed, they apologized for it. The food was on point; whatever we ordered tasted great, and the portions were sufficient for two. The ambiance was good, unlike other Chinese restaurants we have seen in Pleasanton. Six of us came here for a group lunch. The restaurant was decorated with Halloween theme skeletons, Chuky poster, red pal print on the restroom door all made the ambiance fun! I rarely see a Chinese restaurant would decorate seasonally. The dishes were authentic and flavorful. It is Shanghainese and southern style cuisine. It has been a friend's go-to place kitchen during Covid, and they managed to survive. So that indicates to me their food must be good to survive a tough time during shelter in place. Their service was attentive and courteous. I give 4 stars due to the value. It was about $60 per person, a bit higher than anticipated. We ordered much more than we could eat. Came to write a review and totally didn't realize that I had been here before two years ago lol. Updating it now that I've had the full dine-in experience! We visited Fiery Shanghai with a large group of about 50 people for a banquet-style meal. The staff here were all quick on their feet and on my side, I left happily content and full :-) Not only that, but they also served a complimentary tapioca dessert at the end of our meal! Some highlights: + Beef and broccoli: Meat was super tender! I loved the marinade on the meats and how the broccoli was cooked through well. + Orange chicken: Thought it was a tad bit strange that the chicken was almost a neon orange, but I did appreciate how the chicken was cut because it was easy to bite into + Pan fried dumplings: Beeeware of the hot soup inside! Definitely preferred to eat this without the vinegar sauce they provided. The meat inside was moist and the broth was also flavorful. The stuffed gluten came in a huge portion and was sweet and savory; there was a little fire at the bottom to keep it warm. For my mother's birthday, she really wanted to come here to try their shanghai special stuffed duck, they ask for a credit card to charge $100 reserve fee for the duck, as it requires special order, which is fine. The duck tasted fine, a bit too much sauce and too salty. However, the reason for the low star is the billing logistic. We order about six dishes but one of them never came, which I ain't even mad about. When the bill comes, sure enough they still charged me, so I have to correct them. Now, afterward my mother check her credit card and found that they charge thru the $100 duck reservation fee, but they never credit us on the final bill! So they basically charge us $100 twice! We have to go back in person to correct their mistake. I can forgive one billing error, but two billing errors in one dinner is very sus! read more

Came here for a friend's birthday dinner in search of good Shanghainese food out in the wilds after his favorite place had closed down. It's a good deal further out of my usual zone, but Fiery Shanghai definitely has legit good and authentic foods alongside an immaculately clean interior decor and pretty good service. Pleasonton is certainly far for me, but quite a great experience even with such a large party (25! They handled it quite well all things considered). Ample amounts of parking in the sizable plaza. Service staff gracefully handled having three children's seating, walkers, frequent tea refills, as well as quickly serving up dishes as they were done. They also graciously provided clean plates and disposable cutlery for our birthday cake without any trouble. A+ for service for sure. As it was a dinner party I wasn't able to get detailed shots/breakdowns of everything we had, but generally speaking pretty much all the classic dishes were done well with clean executions and the only thing that wasn't perfect was more of an unusual wild card to begin with (Curry Chicken that turned out to be a simple Chinese curry). Updated review: Pacific Place in Pleasanton is of course, stacked with Asian eateries and there seems to be a new one popping up every now and then. Fiery Shanghai has been around and we've dined here for lunch a few times. It is spacious with brightly-lit interior and boasts a pretty large menu with glossy pictures. There were a few good dishes we normally get, but also roughly the same number of mediocre and subpar dishes. Prices are also on the high side, so be careful in trying to order too many dishes. Dim Sum over at King Wah may be a better option for sampling. Starting with the positives: * Green Scallion Beef - similar to Mongolian Beef but without the spiciness. Very soft beef on the sweeter side, and somewhat toddler friendly. * Fried Red Bean Cake - not sure what else to call it, but its like a fried quesadilla filled with sweet red bean paste. * Black Sesame-Filled Dumplings in Red Bean Soup - yet another excellent dessert. Red bean soup is something you often get at the end of a Chinese dinner banquet, but I think black sesame dumplings are good any time. The balance of sweet and bitter plus gritty texture is just hard to pass up. * Chili Oil Pork Wontons - we get this dish with sauce on the side so our toddler has a chance to enjoy without the heat. Now for the negatives: * Smoked Chicken - yikes this dish was like 80% bone and skin and what meat they did offer on that lean bird was super salty. We could not finish this dish and it seems liked the waitstaff did not agree with our feedback. * Sliced pork with veggies - this dish came in its own heated container and comprised bell peppers and some really fatty pork slices. This is not the good type of fat from a marbled steak or on rendered pork belly, but just unappetizing layer of fat stuck on some dry meat. * A $5 tea charge is never pleasant but hey they need to make money I suppose. read more

Solid spot for Shanghainese food. Which seems to be reflected in its popularity - even at 2pm on a Saturday the restaurant was fully packed. The menu here is crazy extensive and has a lot of less commonly found Jiangsu dishes. We got: Kao fu (braised gluten with brown sauce) was really good, true sauce flavor was really imbued in everything and the gluten was soft. Jiao bai Jiao bai (shredded pork fried with wild rice shoot) was not bad considering it used frozen wild rice shoot (they warned us about it in case we wanted to switch dishes), but fresh jiao bai is just so much better. Would probably opt for a different veggie next time. Braised minced eel had good flavor although was a tad too oily for me (though most renditions of this dish have this problem). Yangzhou pork meatball was okay but I found it a bit bland. Shepherd's purse tofu soup and fried rice cake with shepherds purse + shredded pork were both pretty standard but solid renditions. Even with all this it feels like we barely scratched the surface of what this restaurant has to offer - I want to come back and try all the other dishes we didn't have room for! read more
