    Fiery Shang's weekday dine-in set is the best deal in the area. I ordered the $59.99 Weekday Set and was genuinely impressed. Instead of cutting corners, the set served boiled fish fillets in chili oil, half Peking duck set, Shanghai steam soup buns, etc, all the flavor is was absolutely great and authentic. For this price, I expected a skimpy portion, but all the main courses are full sized. Compared to their regular menu, this is an absolute steal. Also a full size hearty duck bone soup with Napa cabbage is included in the package, its homemade taste is so satisfying. The service was fast too, perfect for a work break with a few fellows.

    Located among other restaurants in the Pacific Pearl outdoor shopping mall in Pleasanton, Fiery Shanghai provides a great place to enjoy more upscale Chinese dishes that cut across Shanghai and other regional cuisines. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is pretty large, well-lit, clean and provides excellent service.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] While not every dish has hit the mark for us, we have enjoyed a number of their menu options, although we haven't yet tested out their signature Peking duck served in different ways. Among the dishes we've tried so far, the braised tofu with crab was outstanding as it included a generous portion of silken tofu with a flavorful, creamy crab sauce. The ginger-scallion poached chicken was also tender and topped with a salty ginger-scallion sauce that was particularly good over rice. The stir-fried greens with black mushrooms were fresh and well-cooked. The stir-fried wallaby was also excellent. The Shanghai fried rice cakes was not the typical pork and cabbage stir-fried version that we expected and had more of a singular flavor only. The Shanghai-style braised duck with soy sauce was also overcooked and tough, which was disappointing. So giving them a 4.5 for service/ambiance and a 3.5 for the food overall, as the dishes we liked were ones we would definitely want to eat again but there were enough dishes that were not at the same quality level and at a higher price point than other Chinese restaurants in the area. Nonetheless, we are planning to come back to try their Peking duck and the try out other things on their menu and update our review!

    I'm changing my review due to last visit a couple days ago. I normally only focus on food unless something drastic happened in service that makes me not wanting to go back. We had a party of six and I do know that many restaurants add tip to the tab automatically but my two biggest problem is that first the tip is added post tax which is already wrong. No, sales tax shouldn't be counted for tip amount. The second problem is the amount which is 20%. I believe it's way overcharging for the service we received. They didn't box the leftover nor did they replace my plates with new ones even once. Even the initial water was poured ourselves from the jug. Asking 20% post tax is basically scamming in my view. Btw even with inflation the tip % shouldn't have been raised from the standard dinner 15% to 18-25% nowadays. That's not how percentage works. Anyways, now let's talk about the food. The Peking duck sauce is way way too sweet. The smoked fish is fried ok but fish itself is not fresh. The spicy fish filet uses the cheapest fish filet with barely enough pieces. Overall, it's just not worth going especially with the grossly overpriced menu.

    Fiery? or Sweet? or maybe Fiery Sweet! Most of the items we had were overly sweet, which I was totally okay with, but my diabetic parents just couldn't stop making comments/ complaints about the food being too sweet and too greasy. The drunken shrimp was my favorite- Sweet and flavorful. The stir-fried rice cake was good and filling, and the Shi zhi tou meatballs were so big like baseballs! I'd recommend this place to those who love Shanghai food (and not my parents).

    Fast take out service. Good flavors all around other than the scallion pancake which was disappointing. Spicy chicken had great Szechuan spice flavor. Pork meatball had water chestnuts for texture.

    Been wanting to try this place for a long time. Wifey and I met up a friend who started working in Pleasanton for a Tuesday night dinner. Got distracted and forgot to take photos of the food haha. noOb mistake. We ended up ordering the boiled fish with bean sprouts in hot chili oil, Shanghai-style deep-fried noodles, and cumin beef. The boiled fish was really good but lacked the numbing spiciness I was expecting. The Shanghai-style deep-fried noodles were okay. Think deep-fried chow mein noodles but with the texture of funnel cake topped with corn starchy toppings that made the noodles soggy. Meh. Lastly was the cumin beef. I liked this dish the most. Strongly seasoned beef with onions and peppers. Despite being a slow Tuesday with only two other tables, service was another miss. I had to ask for rice several times. But what really upset me was that I had to ask for ice water at least 5 times. I mean, when you name a restaurant Fiery Shanghai, the customers would liked to have some water to cool down the "fire". Speaking of fires, maybe the workers were trained by the City of Los Angeles because they acted like there was no water. I literally had to walk to the register and ask for ice water. At the end of the day the food was okay. Fiery Shanghai. Not as "hot" as I thought. * [[HIGHLIGHT]]What's with the strange ass interior decoration that makes each table look like a bed frame?[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] When I was paying, I had this hilarious interaction.     No new customers came in the restaurant after 7:30 pm on a Saturday evening. I felt bad for them at first. But after the meal, I realized what the issue was. The food here is good, but no service at all except the server took you to the table. 2 stars taken away because the service is reaaaaaaaalllllly bad. My party needed to call the waitress to get tea refill and get the check. No one came check on us for the whole meal. Since the food here is good, I think the owner should either re-train the existing staff or re-hire some professional servers to attract more businesses. My party ordered 8 dishes. Overall 6 of 8 are good. Hope their service will improve soon. Otherwise, I think I will just get to go from this place.

    [[HIGHLIGHT]]Very nice Chinese restaurant with friendly staff and nice atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] All dishes we ordered were good. I wanted specifically shout out for Peking roasted duck and xiao long bao. The roasted duck has perfect balance of crispy fatty skin and lean meat, by eating with the sauce and green onion, it gives a rich and refreshing taste. The xiao long bao is also pretty good, the quality of pork and soup inside the dumpling is fantastic with rich and balanced umami.

    3.5, rounded up. Getting right into food! Scallion Noodles: 2/5, lacked any flavor unfortunately, texture was good but just oily and salty. Added vinegar to finish. XLB: 4/5, big, lots of soup, good skin texture! Pretty solid with their vinegar. Scallion Pancake: 3.5/5, skeptical at first because it looked small but this was quite flavorful without any sauce. Thicker than expected. Peking Duck two ways: 3/5, the duck is cut right in front of you which was nice. Portions were generous, but the duck itself was okay with the green onion/cucumber/pancake wrap (instead of buns!). The soup had great flavor, but was wayyy too salty. The duck itself is okay. Sweet and sour spare ribs: 4/5, standard, good flavor and tender! Green beans: 4/5, loved the garlic and the spices but some of the beans were pretty limp. Lacked the crunch factor :( Fish with brown sauce: 3.5/5, not a cooked fish girl myself, but was decent according to my table! Tasted homemade and soft, however was not the freshest fish. Service was alright. They gave us the pancakes for the peking duck way ahead of time so they got cold, and we had to request a new plate of them which they accommodated for. We also had to wait at the front for a bit even though there were tables open. Kind of pricey, but food was decent. Would come back to try their lunch specials.

    First time going to this restaurant. It was across the street from the Livermore Outlet. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Very clean and nice decor.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Shanghai fried noodles were tasty. Sweet and sour Pork tenderloin was crispy. Shanghai pork wonton was fresh but soup was bland. Totally recommended.

It says in the restaurant's site that Chef Hu Wen Jun opened Yummy SzeChuan in Millbrae in July 2015. It got the Michelin Guide Recommendations in 2017, 2018 and 2019. 6/19/2026 was my 2nd visit there and I can see why the restaurant won many culinary accolades and special honorable mentions. We ordered sweet and sour chicken but were served sesame chicken instead. The potstickers were soggy and tasted old, and the xiaolongbao had an unpleasant taste. Out of courtesy we took the leftovers with us, but the food was so unappealing that we threw it away shortly after leaving.

I have also never felt the need to publicly speak on racism in my life, but what happened here was too blatant to ignore. For context, I am a student at University of California, Berkeley and a PM at a Fortune 500 company. I say that only to make clear that I am a professional person who understands how to treat others with respect and how basic customer service should work. I came in for a pickup order and stood there attempting multiple times to get the employee's attention. She ignored me repeatedly, even looking directly in my direction without acknowledging me. Then I heard her say hello, and for a moment assumed she was finally speaking to me. Instead, she intentionally greeted and assisted a couple who had just walked in behind me. After helping them, she again looked my way and continued to avoid acknowledging me. In that moment, the treatment felt deliberate and discriminatory. When she finally addressed me, the interaction remained hostile. She appeared suspicious of whether the pickup order was actually mine, despite me giving the correct name that was already listed on the receipt and not visible to me beforehand. Beyond the service, the food itself was equally disappointing. I ordered the orange chicken, and it was some of the driest, lowest-quality chicken I have had anywhere. I have traveled extensively and eaten food all over the world, and it is rare to experience food this poor combined with service this disrespectful. This was an embarrassing experience for a business located near University of California, Berkeley. There are many better options nearby, and I would strongly recommend spending your money elsewhere. No one should have to deal with treatment like this or pay for a meal like this.
