7/26/2023 I've never heard of Dunford Bakers,. (Which happened to peak my interest shopping at Costco)... Who doesn't love a good old chocolate donut. Weakness set in and I had to research on my phone with the box in my hand.. Wow .. lots of good reviews.. Sold! WOW! I've lived in the valley for about 6 years now and frequently found myself picking up some dunfords donuts from gas stations and grocery stores. I'd heard of there being a physical location for dunford but never thought much about it, because why would I drive all the way there when I can get some at Walmart 30 seconds away. However, for one reason or another I finally decided to go check it out, and boy was I WRONG. The donuts straight from the bakery are 10x better than anything you can get from the store. In retrospect this obviously makes a lot of sense haha. I was blown away. I was going to get a dozen of the most fresh donuts, but then saw they have day old boxes full of upwards of 20 donuts for cheaper than a fresh dozen is. I couldn't pass this up, because heck 1 day old must be better than who know how many days old at Walmart. The donuts were all really good. And this is coming from someone who has thought all their donuts are subpar except the double chocolate ones. If you're like me and just never saw the need to go get donuts straight from the source, you're wrong! You need to get over here asap and have your eyes opened for the very first time. read more

Not a fan! Even though the donuts came straight from the baking plant to this factory store in the side of the plant, they tasted old. I took a bite of five of the six donuts I bought, thinking that maybe the next one will be better, but I didn't like them. The chocolate one, their signature donut, was acceptable but still too dry for my taste. I seriously can't understand the rave about these donuts. I have been a long-time fan of the Dunford chocolate donut, usually found at convenience stores or my local supermarket. I recently learned that only a short 14 minute drive stood between me and their store. Of course, I made a beeline over! The bakery/store is located in a residential area, and is clearly marked with ample parking. I visited during COVID times, so there were not individual self-serve donuts on display-there were lots of packaged boxes ready for the taking. One of the nice staff members overheard me and my son talking about how we were looking for individual donuts and she offered to check in the back. She came up with two maple bars-just what we wanted! In addition to donuts, there is also bread and cookies. Everything is delicious and service is impeccable. You're not going to find super fancy, exotic donuts-these are more traditional. Which is just what I like. In the words of Arnold, "I'll be back." read more

When my friends and I spontaneously decided to get donuts and coffee for breakfast, I looked on Yelp for the highest rated donut shop near us. Dunford Bakery was in the top spot and less than 10 minutes away. We were hoping to arrive at a quaint donut shop, order some coffee and free-pick a few donuts to try and share. Unfortunately, this isn't that type of donut shop. The bakery was pretty packed and didn't have a lot of room to peruse. We realized our only donut options came in pre-packaged half dozens/dozens with limited variety. We felt rushed due to the crowds, and quickly grabbed a variety dozen, jumped in line, paid, and were left wondering where to eat the donuts... Revising my review now that self-service is back! But either the quality has decreased or my standards have gone up as I've tried other better donuts in Utah. The donuts were super average. The creme filled donut was pretty good but I wish more of it were filled. Maybe the round is better than the triangle. And the cinnamon roll one was pretty dry. My son loved his maple donut but says the cinnamon roll was bland. My daughter got the neon pink donut and it was terrible. We all tried it for the sake of this review and agreed the frosting didn't taste edible. Too much dye? Preservatives? Contaminated with something accidentally? Yikes. read more

I was near here and saw a review that said here is fresher and better than what you get at a grocery store or gas station. I've never been a huge fan of Dunford donuts but I thought I would check if fresh is best. Nope. Maybe a slight difference in the moisture level, and obviously a little more variety, but overall a disappointment. When I saw that this is a Franz product I realized why I don't like it. I am so glad I made a stop here! I've been to Salt Lake City several times this year and hadn't yet found a great donut. I was very pleasantly surprised by Dunford Bakers. First off, a dozen donuts was under $10. I mean, COME ON! So many other recommendations for the chocolate chocolate donut, so I got some, and I am so glad I did. Those are amazing! The donut itself isn't dry and the icing is fantastic. I thought they were wonderful. The store also has breads, baking supplies, and other bakery type items for purchase. Employees here are very rude and unwelcoming. They don't greet patrons or speak to you when you pay. The owners would be better off hiring robots because at least with a robot you have no expectation. It's like this every time we go. Today was the last time I will take my kids. Well that was disappointing. We love going to Dunford on Saturdays, but they have gotten rid of self serve due to covid. Which is fine. But they aren't even offering their vast flavors of doughnuts like normal. You go in and you have to choose pre-made boxes. It's just what you can get at the grocery store. Not worth the drive to go to their storefront or anything. Super disappointed. I thought theyd at least have an employee in gloves and mask that would select the doughnuts you wanted and assemble a box for you. Oh well, off to find another doughnut shop. read more

Came here for the first time today as we were near the area. First off, totally weird location as it turns into what you think is a residential neighborhood (all houses) area. The first impression wasn't that great as the location and ambience wasn't too inviting. Then once you enter through the doors, the whole aisle of glass (where donuts would be in, but presented behind a glass) was totally empty and being worked on. Employees were not warm to you once you entered in. As a fist time customer, I felt a bit confused as to where things are. As you walk through the first aisle, there's a section of cookies behind glass where you can choose and get a couple as self serve. Then, there's another area for already pre-boxed donuts, either by the dozen, or in half dozens. Dozen boxes were in metal rolling trays, and the half dozen boxes were placed on a table next to it. Finally, the taste of their donuts (purchased half dozen maple bars, and half dozen glazed) aren't all cracked up to be. I've had better, and will prob not come back. read more

The storefront is located basically right outside of the main factory. Parking was super easy and you can be assured that they will have plenty of donuts to choose from here. This is a great place to get large quantities of donuts for parties, or for office gatherings. The best part is the price, for sure these are outlet prices. Hate to make the comparison, but i'd say these donuts are the quality of supermarket style donuts. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, though in my opinion i'd rather go to a Krispy Kreme or Dunkin even. With that said, don't come here expecting to see a maple bacon donut - as that would probably be a little too unique. If you want the basic staple donuts to feed the masses, this is your place. The donuts here are super huge and all basically taste the same to me. The only donut that probably stood out for me was the cherry bear claw - which i'd highly recommend. read more

I was excited to try this location since someone said it was better than Banbury. So I had very high expectations. Easy to find and good parking access. No tables inside. Deft a place to go and grab a good box of doughnuts. We tried a couple flavors. They are deftly known for their chocolate doughnut. The chocolate flavor was really good so I can see why it's well known. Now for the texture of the doughnut, it didn't really make me go wow. There was nothing different from a doughnut from Harmons. Don't take me wrong it's not bad at all. I would deft go there again. But my intention was to compare to Banbury in Salt Lake. It just wasn't as fluffy and as soft. I'd say this might be on my top five doughnut places thou. So deft go check them out. They do have a large selection of flavors. read more

My hubby brought these home for breakfast while we were visiting in SLC. Easily the best donut I've had!! The glazed blueberry is to die for!! I only intended to eat half. Oops! This self-serve donut 'outlet' has a local feel and the service staff reflects that in a very good way. Polite and somewhat talkative with warm and winning smiles. I got a glazed yeast donut, blueberry cake donut w/glaze on top, and a blueberry turnover. The glazed donut was nice and soft, slightly chewy and delicious. The Blueberry cake donut was inferior to the likes of Dunkin' Donuts, and Krispie Kreme. The blueberry turnover, however, was a pocket full of sweet pastry joy! They have them made that morning and I've got to say it's not even expensive either! Great for the small gatherings with work and family. I lived in West Jordan when I first moved to Utah, so Dunford has a huge spot in my heart. Now that I live downtown I don;t get many opportunities to stop by the actual outlet, but I jump at the chance when I can. Lucky for me, my daughter's orthodontist is right around the corner and we can pop by for a freshly baked yummy treat. The double chocolate cake donuts are the best by far, but they can also sell out quickly sometimes. Another favorite is the coconut white glazed donut or any of their muffins. Everything is so fresh! Not to mention dirt cheap. This little outlet also sells fruit, juices, hot chocolate, milk...basically anything you need to get your morning started. read more

I've been eating Dunfords for 30 years, at least. It started with that chocolate chocolate cake. Amazing. Over the last few years I discovered the chocolate covered cinnamon rolls and chocolate covered twists. Oh my. I was floored when I learned in the last month that there was an actual store. I had always assumed the biz was delivering to gas stations. I was surprised that the donuts were much cheaper at the store. We bought some wheat bread, which was ok, better than average probably. My mother grew up in Salt Lake City and every time we have visited for the past 27 years Dunford has been the first stop after landing from the airport. February 2020 we took a big family trip back to Salt Lake from California and noticed instantly a difference in Dunford's donuts this time. Our holy grail devils food chocolate donuts were different. Not that they were bad just different. Flavor was off and quality was off as well. Sure enough I did some research to find out that the Bakery was sold in late 2019... We were wondering if anyone else notices a difference and if so; hopeful management makes the necessary corrections to get back to the old recipes. Dunford really was something special!
