Local bakery that sells Latin style goods influenced mostly by Spain. The tres leches cake here is exceptional and I am a big fan of their cornbread and chocolate dipped pound cake. My co-workers love when I bring in their cream cheese and jalepenos filled rolls. Panadería Alicia's is a true gem if you're a fan of Mexican baked goods. The moment you walk in, you're greeted with an overwhelming variety of breads, pastries, and cakes--there's truly something for everyone. The selection is massive, and everything looks fresh and inviting. We tried their tres leches cake and caramel pudding cake, and both were absolutely delicious. The tres leches was moist and rich without being overly sweet, and the caramel pudding cake had a silky texture with just the right amount of sweetness. We also sampled a few other baked goods, and everything we tried was solid--clearly made with care. One thing that could improve the experience for first-time visitors is labeling. None of the items are named or described, so unless you're already familiar with traditional Mexican pastries, it can be a bit of a guessing game. It would be really helpful if they labeled each item or provided a menu guide. That said, if you're open to a little adventure--or already know your conchas from your cuernitos--this place is definitely worth visiting. The service was great, the lady in the from was very welcoming and friendly. The store had was clean and smelled so delicious. Chocolate flan....where have you been all my life?! This pairing was phenomenal. Very moist chocolate cake and all the deliciousness of flan that you'd expect. I think I have a new favorite birthday cake! In addition to the drool worthy chocolate flan, I also bought a ton of other stuff. I like to sample. When nearly everything (except cakes) are less than $1 each, it's easy to splurge. The sweets here (cookies, pastries) aren't nearly as sweet as their traditional counterparts. I picked up a massive sprinkle covered cookie for my kids, and the sweet mostly comes from the sprinkles. The savory pastry filled with cream cheese, ham, and jalapeños was a delightful surprise, especially since I'm not one for spicy food. The cream cheese provided a great balance to the spice. Definitely try it. The empanada fresa was just okay. Tasty dough but I'm not a fan of strawberry gel filling. They also had pineapple and a cheese. She never got back to me so I asked her again (in a very friendly manner) she then said "I told you 20 more minutes". As a Mexican myself I find it very rude to be this rude to people. Makes me sick. This is a small-ish Mexican bakery that was fun for a quick stop and explore. Upon entering, you get your own metal platter and tongs, and make your selections. Before you start heaping on items willy-nilly, though, I would suggest looking over the cases in their entirety, because there's a surprising amount of baked goods packed into this small shop, and if you just grab whatever looks good you'll be leaving with about eighteen treats. In addition to the various breads and cookies, there is also a refrigerated case filled with jello, cake (regular and tres leches), a few other chilled treats, and drinks. They had a book of cakes as well, so I believe you can get them to order. I felt like a lot of the items were similar, and this isn't necessarily bad, but I'm all about variety, so it made the bakery a little less appealing to me. My husband and I both felt the absence of chocolate acutely. I think maybe chocolate just isn't super prevalent in Mexican sweets? There was only one chocolate treat, which was a sort of chocolate chip cookie thing. It was quite yummy, so if they have decent chocolate chips like they do, they should definitely branch out into some other chocolate items. If nothing else plenty of those sweets could be dipped in chocolate which would take them to a whole other level... Anyways, I don't know the names of anything, but in addition to the chocolate chip cookie we also tried (in order of ascending deliciousness): raspberry empanada (pretty dry, and I don't particularly enjoy that sort of jelly filling), basic concha bread (a little dry and boring), small sort of shortbread-y sugar coated cookie (included some cinnamon so reminiscent of a snickerdoodle), two cakey cookies sandwiched with buttercream, and also coated in buttercream and sugar (I don't know what this magic was, but it was quite messily delightful), and a long, thin strip of pastry with fat sugar crystals (super flaky, a bit caramelized, crunchy from the sugar, all around yummy combination). It is SO cheap. I paid $4-something for all of that (note: they don't accept cards for purchases under $5). Nothing was absolutely excellent, however for the price, the mix of options, and the fun of putting together a bag of goodies for yourself for just a few bucks it's definitely worth a visit every once in a while. After an absolutely delightful experience at their sister location in West Valley a while back, I noticed this spot show up on Yelp. Fantastic! Two chances to pick up Mexican baked goods means double the sugar, flour, and filling. It took a while, but I finally made it to this spot on 7800 S. First, the instructions. If you're not familiar with how this place works, pay attention. First, you'll walk in and see a stand with some trays and tongs. Grab a tray and a set of tongs. It's up to you to fill your tray with whatever you'd like. Next, do just that. Walk around, open the cases, or grab what's out on the racks, and fill up the tray with delicious treats. You also have the refrigerator to choose from, with tres leches, flan and the like. Once your tray is full, just hand it to the cashier who will count up your choices, bag them, and charge you accordingly. I can't give you a run-down of every item, so let me just give you some guidance. As with any bakery, Mexican or otherwise, there are things you will like and things that aren't your cup of tea. Overwhelmingly I was a fan of the items I chose here and at the other location. If anything, the few I didn't enjoy were items that came off a bit too dry, but that's likely my experience as an over-buttered baked goods eater. The very good: Cheese and jalapeño bread. Think of it as a stuffed bite of cream cheese and slightly spicy kick. It's a bread jalapeño popper. It's dynamite. There's a larger mini-bread that has ham added to the mix, and it's what I'm after next. Anything with custard. I had a sugared muffin-looking thing stuffed with custard and it was fantastic, if not a bit too sweet at the end. The good: Anything with filling. They're especially fond of the raspberry and the pineapple fillings, and there are strudel-esque pastries, turnovers, and other items with this filling. My tastes led me more towards the turnovers with the sugared and rolled crust, as opposed to the egg wash one, but either was great. Also, the fig-filled croissant was super unique, and quite nice. French croissant it was not, but still flaky and would be perfect for mornings. The ones I'd get less of: Donuts. I stick with dedicated donut shops, as they're a bit too cakey for my liking here. Cookies. Well, these are very hit or miss. Could be great ones, so they're all worth a shot to find your fave. The one that got away: The guy in front of me go the last mil hojas and I'm telling you that thing looked boss. Next time I'll get there earlier. That seems to be good advice anywhere. I'll surely be back to gobble up more of this delightful stuff. It's crazy cheap (my tray full was less than $8) and there are so many things to try that I can't help but go out there and try them all. read more

The puff pastry cream tart with strawberry, kiwi, and peach is delicious. The red rolled cake with coconut on it is mild in flavor and would go very nicely with tea or something like that. But since I'm not a big fan of tea, it wasn't really my 'thing'. The cream filled puff pastry was also good. So I guess, everything they do with cream is delicious. ;) I got about 5 other pastries, but haven't eaten them yet. So I'll report later. A nice selection and really inexpensive. I come to the Thai restraunt next door to pick my family member every night and I always see so many people walking in and out of this bakery wondering what are they up to in there. So one day I decided this is enough I'm gonna check it out for myself. I followed what everyone else was doing...pick up a tray and tongs and went at it with all the variety of Mexican pasteries, not even sure what the heck I got. I pretty much bought one from each shelf. I don't even know how much each things were but seems to range from .80 to 2.00. My total came to 15 bucks for about 20 different type of pastries. I can't even tell you what the names are from each. I took a bite from pretty much each pastry I got. My favorites were the ham/cheese/ jalapeño bread, and some thing like corn pudding bread.... Soooooo good! I'm here for the 2nd time and they were out of the corn bread stuff but everything else is still amazing! This place is a must try at least once.
