We've ordered three times in the span of one month. I used to be addicted to a different donut chain until we tasted the cherry bomb donut. I have an obsession with old school hand pies that you could get from the grocery store or ice cream man for no more than $1. The cherry filling tastes just like that. Then pair it with a fluffy yeast risen donut and im in heaven! If you can relate, then this may be right up your alley. I'm not a fan of the #2 emoticon. But they make theirs with chocolate cake donut and topped with chocolate frosting. And the chocolate cake donut from the other chain was my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE and then they dropped it from their menu. We had been on the island for over a decade straight so we didn't realize they did away with it until we came back here. I was heartbroken cuz I was really looking forward to it. Fast forward six months and I've finally found a substitute! And it's even better than the other one. The frosting is piled pretty high but hubs was more than happy to help with that by giving the brown guy a shave and smearing it over his own donuts lol. The Samoa donut and the chocolate buttercup donut were both pretty heavy with the toppings but that created a great offset to the fluffy donut. The raspberry cheesecake and strawberry donuts were also similar to those hand pies! Nothing like a nostalgic box of donuts to take you down memory lane.

Carl's is a fun spot with lots of space for seating (both indoor and outdoor). They have a variety of options, whether your preference is savory or sweet. I had to exercise self control and only get half a dozen donuts, which included a couple cake donuts with icing and sprinkles, their arguably famous Devil's Food Cake with icing, an Oreo cinnamon roll, and a Bavarian cream-filled. My husband and I enjoyed everything but had especially rave reviews for the Devil's Food Cake. It was decadent and rich. It was filling and utterly divine. Despite how busy they were for National Donut Day, their staff was friendly, high energy, and well-organized, moving people through expediently while answering any questions we might have. As more small business close these days, it's a rarity to see an institution like Carl's celebrating 60 years in our community.
