My first time in Boston, and I researched what was good here. Though I'm not a Dunkin' Donuts fan, I had to give respect to its origins. AMBIANCE: Parking: Plaza parking, I didn't have any issues. Seating: Inside seating great for groups. Maybe room for 20 people total Vibes: Quincy is a mix of residential and commercial culture. East Coast, so these houses are huge and it's a pretty clean area. Dunkin' is in the corner of a plaza. You'll see some of it's original designs signifying as the first location. Going inside, you're welcomed with some nice lite rock and the smell of coffee and donuts. What's unique about this spot is the history. Nothing too flashy but if you're a tourist history nerd, it's a cool place to check out. FOOD: Iced Coffee (Recommend) Simple. Smooth, mellow, and pretty caffeinated. I sensed the earthiness but still chilled. Boston Cream Donut (Recommend) A more condensed version of Boston's signature flavor. Fluffy, breading sweet vanilla custard, and a nice taste of chocolate. Delicious! CUSTOMER SERVICE: Solid. Nothing too flashy, just your business as usual vibes. TL; DR OVERALL: 4 Stars. Great! Chain prices, steady flavor, and good choices. I'm usually a small business person but love me some original spots of chains, so this was fun. It may be out of the way from major touristy things but it's worth seeing and trying if you're in the area. I went with my two girls as a surprise. Service: Wow! They were so sweet with the girls. I really appreciate that (this was yesterday, Aug 28, 2025, around 1pm if corp needs to check the schedule since I failed to get any names) - and this is the main reason I'm writing the review. Ambiance: kind of cool, complete with a few seats at the counter which is where we sat. Food: standard DD fare. Nothing special though for being the original location. Stopped in today at the "original " dunkin " at 543 Southern Artery in Quincy. I ordered 3 donuts and they came to about $5.40 or $5.60. I gave the cashier a fifty dollar bill. What I received back was about $35.00 and changed. I immediately questioned the change as being short. The cashier took out his phone in what I can only believe to be doing the transaction so he knew the correct amount. I thought the cash register would tell him how much to return to me in change ( guess not ). At this point another employee asked what was going on and I explained to her I was short changed. She checked with the original cashier and replied the change was correct. At this point I asked can anyone here do basic math. I did the math in my head and was due $44.00 and change. The second employee then copped an attitude telling me to deal with the manager ( who was about 5 steps to the left ). He came over and asked what was going on, I explained, he asked for all the change back which I gave him and then he redid the transaction providing me with the correct change. Have things gone so terribly wrong that cashiers cannot do simple math ( adding and subtracting ) or cannot read from a cash register the correct amount of money to return to a customer ? read more

This Dunkin Donuts location has the distinction of being the very first Dunkin Donuts ever. It is on a busy main street so they do a lot of business here. The doughnuts and muffins that they sell here are always fresh and tasty. For the doughnuts that they have here my personal favorite is the glazed doughnut. Highly recommended. There is a little bit of seating here so if you're wanting to enjoy your goodies in the shop you can do that. There is some limited parking outside of this location. The people working behind the counter are always pleasant. Nice place to enjoy coffee and doughnuts. read more

The location that started it all, this location was been updated to resemble the original look. Dunkin Donuts made a big change recently to rebrand itself as Dunkin' (dropping the donut from their name). This location still maintains the original look, and is still a working restaurant. Their selection of donuts is pretty small, but had the flavors we wanted and it tasted good/fresh. There are a few signs inside that gives the history (including a plaque showing all the logos/icons throughout the years. Growing up with Dunkin Donuts while being raised in Chicagoland, this was a nice stop for us and worth the out of the way drive while going to the airport. read more

Unlike the first Starbucks in Seattle, this first Dunkin' in Quincy is absolutely nothing special. There is no "First Dunkin'" merchandise. There isn't even a really special sign out front that says much more than in small print that this was is "Original Dunkin location - established 1950". Unless you're looking for the usual coffee and donuts and sandwiches - no complaints, I'm sure they're great - there's no reason to go out of your way to come here. During World War II, William Rosenberg, a shipyard worker in Quincy, realized that there were not many options for him and his colleagues to have lunch nearby. He then borrowed $1,000 and used another $1,500 to start   "Industrial Luncheon Services" to satisfy workers' lunch needs. The business sold sandwiches, coffee, doughnuts, and other snacks from a truck. After noticing that 50 percent of the sales were coffee and doughnuts, he decided to concentrate on the most popular items in the menu. He established a new location at 543 Southern Artery, Quincy, named "Open Kettle." This was the predecessor to Dunkin' Donuts and sold only coffee and doughnuts for 10 cents and 5 cents respectively. The business was an instant success. Having noticed that customers dunked their donuts in the coffee, Rosenberg decided to change Open Kettle's name to Dunkin' Donuts in 1950, and the first Dunkin' Donuts was born. The one that started it all! That deserves five star in itself. I was an exchange student in Vienna, a place well known and UNESCO recognized for its café culture. There are five Dunkies in the whole city, and at least one has a line out the door. After drinking the liquid gold that is Viennese coffee for three months, I popped in to a Dunks. It wasn't that it was good, but rather that it tastes like home. The offerings at this location are nothing to write home about. DD has gotten very good at having consistency across locations (and even countries). Are there better coffees? I'd be lying if I said no. At the same time, nothing tastes quite like home like Dunkies, wherever you are. Here's to the one that started it all! Roasted: learned that the original Dunkin' Donuts was in Quincy MA so had to check it out. It feels like an old school diner here with booth seating. Busy as to be expected for a Dunkin. Service and speed was exactly what you would expect. They were relatively fast but not overly friendly. They made us iced lattes when we ordered hot ones. They did offer to remake them for us which was nice. Obviously no for here mugs or latte art but we knew that going into this review. My latte was beyond sweet - so much sugar it was nearly undrinkable. The other latte was just pure butter espresso and horrible. I don't know what I expected overall but this is what I expect of Dunkin. Unroasted: super excited to hear that the original Dunkin was a mile away from where I was. I had such high hopes to see the flagship store that started it all. The outside looks really cool with the original logo and the staple brand of the original store underneath. Long line is promising of the consistent dunking brand. Ordered the usual latte and we patiently waited. We received two iced lattes which is not what we wanted. The employee was nice to remake them. What I should have remembered is that this is Dunkin and stick to coffee nothing fancy. My latte was absolutely terrible. Undrinkable Unflavored latte I have ever had. The outside has their original vintage design, but inside is your 21st century style Dunkin Donuts. I did enjoy their bar style seating and the ample parking available. A MUST DO! THIS IS THE ORIGINAL DUNKIN DONUTS THAT STARTED IT ALL IN 1950. Don't get overly excited about visiting The Mothership location in Quincy MA. & lower your expectations a bit. Most people Hype this place up in their Minds. They come here & think it's going to be some Huge Place & a Museum etc. etc. etc. ; it's not. Lower your Expectations & you'll be Fine & can really enjoy it. The Cool Part of coming here is just seeing the Original Classic Dunkin Donuts Logo sign right on top of the building as you pull up in your vehicle. Those Large Classic white letters that are written are a Throwback to a Bygone era. That Sign is SO COOL! It is not the modern logo of today that you see on top of Dunkin Donuts shops everywhere. The Side of the building however does have the modern DD lighted sign that you see coast to coast. When you enter the store, you'll see it is divided into 2 sections. The right side of the shop is your modern Dunkin Donuts store of today that is exactly like your own neighborhood shop. The left side however is totally different & has a Classic 1950s Vibe to it. They have colorful Pink & Orange Vinyl Retro Counter Stools & a White Speckled Formica curved counter which is very Cool! They also have some small circular white tables & matching white plastic chairs. There are several tangerine domed lights hanging from the ceiling which are also pretty cool. There are numerous pictures, & Back in the Day Photos & Plaques all over the walls. The whole Retro area however is small. They also have a flat screen here as well. I WISH IT WAS BIGGER & had a museum that featured all the different products Dunkin Donuts offered over the years, flavors & products that have come & gone, commercials from different decades & a Retro Merch Shop but it doesn't. Hopefully they will have something like this in the Future. But for now - It is what it is. I enjoyed having my Dunkin Donuts coffee at this Cool Original 1950s location. If you are in the Quincy MA or Boston area make sure to stop in for a look. It used to be, you had to have Mega Bucks & be really Rich to have the Good Life, not anymore. The Game has changed. This Dunkin' Donuts is horribly operated. I waited in line while the workers finished their irrelevant conversations behind the counter before acknowledging that I was waiting a few minutes. I ordered a small iced caramel coffee, regular. Not 15 seconds later they called a small hot caramel coffee. I told the workers I had ordered a small iced, to which they proceed to turn around, poor the hot coffee into a plastic cup with a few pieces of ice, and return the lukewarm coffee with minimal, melted ice to me. I understand iced coffees are more expensive, but it's not my problem they recorded the order incorrectly. The service needs help. read more

So I'm driving north along 3A in Quincy, completely lost. Thank you, Siri! But then I see this Dunkin Donuts and think, could it be, I wonder? Well, I saw the original looking sign and thought about that old black & white photo in my local Dunkin Donuts. Yep, I've just discovered donut heaven. LOL As you walk in you'll notice a couple of things about this shrine. But realize it was almost sixty years ago, Incredible! My friend Brian S has done an excellent job recapping a number of years in my life through the prism of Mr. Rosenberg and DD. It's a good read. My first DD by the way was back in New York during the mid 1960s. The longest journey begins with the first step There are now over 10,000 D&D's in 32 countries. The franchise brings in something like 6 billion dollars and sells a whole lot more than just donuts and coffee. A long, long journey for D&D but even the longest journey had to start somewhere and that somewhere was right here. Back in 1950 William Rosenberg opened up the very first Dunkin Donut on this very spot. Hard to imagine but back then this was the only D&D in the entire galaxy. Of course the building changed through the decades and just recently they remodeled and tried to get sort of a retro look. Actually came out pretty good. The place is typical D&D. Coffee, muffins, donuts and a host of other highly caloric but tasty stuff. This is a very busy place, people zinging in and out carrying all sorts of stuff but the staff seems to keep everything moving. The crappers are usually clean and ample parking is actually available. I usually try to stop here when I happen to be going by not because of the coffee, donuts or bathrooms. I stop here because this is a part of history. There are a few little plaques but I wish there was more to mark the occasion. I bet a lot of people go here and don't even know it was the first. Perhaps they don't even care. Even if you don't like D&D this place is still cool because this is where something that is part of our culture began. The absolute beginning. This is number 1 out of over 10,000. The original Dunkin' Donuts. Not sure what it is exactly, but the French Crullers, Boston Cremes, and coffee taste better than all the other locations I've been to. The cashier told me the word is Fred ("Time to Make the Donuts") haunts this place, and he puts extra love into making everything taste so fresh and good. Fred visited right before his death making this very plausible. Make sure to check out the picture of him visiting this Dunkin' location on the back wall. Insider tip: You need a key for the bathroom. If you hate those awkward encounters of having to ask for the key, then you might want to go to the bathroom before you head here. That bathroom ain't pretty either, but this is expected of a place that sells laxative agents like coffee and Maple Bacon Butter Egg Cheese Croissant sandwiches. read more

OMG we stopped by the OG location for Dunkin Donuts! This totally wasn't on purpose, we just happened to pass by and noticed it on our way to lunch. It kind of stood out became the exterior is old school and doesn't look like the normal DD stores. The guy helping us inside was kind of new, but was super friendly and energetic. All of the employees working were friendly. There aren't a lot of places to sit and hang out, so the signs probably help patrons not overstay their welcome. My 100th review. What to do, what to do? Dunkin Donuts, not just any Dunkin Donuts but Shop #1, howz that? Dunkin Donuts Mecca, how is it possible it hasn't been reviewed before? WTF is wrong with you people? You know the place that has divided families, father against son, mother against daughter, brother against brother, sister against sister, or then again there's the whole "a family that drinks Dunkins together stays together" crowd. The FIRST of 8,800 DD shops around the Globe in 31 countries, serving 2.7 million customers every day since the 1950s, with $5.5 Billion in revenues in 2008 (they're still counting 2009 & 2010). So what about this DD in particular, nothing really, you would never really know it was DD #1 just by stopping in, in fact it sucks parking here like most of the DDs to follow it's example except the parking lot here is even worse than most and they didn't seem to know anything about shop placement back then, it sits on the southbound side opposite of the morning traffic flow. Yet it is still cranking out donuts all these years later. Until you visit here you really can't call yourself a true Bostonian. Once you arrive, you'll either love it or hate it like any other DDs. I'm a major dunkin junkie! So being that I was close by, I HAD to visit. And being that I was near Boston I had to get a Boston cream donut. Unfortunately I already had a coffee not too long before from another location so the donut was all I got. No disappointment. And I only went because I was already in Quincy (otherwise I probably wouldn't have made the effort to go). As for being the OG Dunkin', it is like any other Dunkin' I've ever been to. Menu is exactly the same, quality is exactly the same. Seating area is relatively small. Service is quite ok -- nothing too memorable. If you're expecting the OG Dunkin' to be a tourist destination (like the OG Starbucks), you're completely wrong. With that being said, there was no line, and I got my coffee pretty quickly. read more
