We come here 3 to 4 times a year. Though yesterday may be out last time. It was a colossal fail. The mussels, always good, came out barely warm, weird fishy taste and bitter. Not at all like usual. Not eaten! Wings, they were charred black? Literally black! About half of $20 worth were eaten. The others trash. Crabcake sandwich, where was the crab? Nasty! The cheese burgers were frozen patties. Appeared microwaved and way over cooked past done. Kids wouldn't eat them. Bill for the 9 of us $126. We tipped your waitress over 20%. Dunleavy you lost us yesterday! Stopped in for the Shepherds Pie special for lunch. Turned out it is beef stew that the meat was fatty and the mashed potatoes were out of a box. If your looking for a beer, they have them. If your looking for an Irish Pub with the things that come with an Irish Pub, this isn't it. read more

Mediocre bar food. We sat ourselves and waited 5 minutes to get menus and drinks. I got the quesadilla which is comparable to Taco bell (only double the price) and my husband got a burger, medium rare and the outside of it was burnt. An incredible experience. While visiting the historic sites in this area we came across Dunleavy's Pub. Waitresses were attentive and the food was good and hot. While waiting for your food you can entertain yourself with the pictures posted everywhere of individuals wearing Dunleavy's T-Shirts posing all over the world. This is also the first time we were served popcorn while waiting for our meal. The next time I'm in town I will be stopping here again. read more

For me there are two big reasons to go to Dunleavy's. One is that they accommodate dogs on their front patio. They even keep water dishes filled for them. We like taking our two Boxers with us instead of leaving them at home so it's nice to find a really dog-friendly environment. The other (big) reason is that they have the best chicken wings I've ever eaten ANYWHERE. At Dunleavy's they dry rub and then grill their chicken over charcoal instead of frying them in hot oil; as a result, the wings are fluffy, not at all greasy, with a wonderful charcoal taste. Everyone I know who has tried them agrees that they are absolutely superior to any other chicken wings you can find. I recommend the hot wings (which really aren't that hot) which come with your choice of bleu cheese and/or ranch dressing. If you want a different flavor, try the lemon-pepper version. Our server advised against trying the ranch dressing rub, saying that it literally tasted as if wings had been rubbed with a packet of ranch dressing mix (we really appreciated her honesty, by the way). On Wednesday's they offer wings for forty cents each between 5:00 and 10:00 p.m. We like to go with a group and enjoy dozens of them along with lots of beer and baskets of their free popcorn. We've always had capable and friendly service too. As far as the rest of their menu, it's basically average pub fare -- OK, nothing to write home about. But the wings make a trip more than worthwhile. read more

We just stopped by for a quick snack and drink after fishing. Great wings! Very good RI clam chowder. Kind of weird that you can't get anything fried, not even fries with your burger, but I heard that has something to do with their zoning/fire laws in such an old building. Not a problem for me, just an interesting quirk. We enjoyed the pub atmosphere and it really catered to our situation of bringing the dog with us. Dunleavy's pub: the place you go to on Sullivan's when Home Team and Poe's are too crowded. After a long day out at the beach working on my glorious tan, I will admit I don't have a craving for pub food afterwards. This place is your standard bar with hot dogs, salads, nachos and some Irish entrees and beer too for the Dunleavy's name. One thing I did enjoy was the popcorn on your table as long as it's not burnt! It's like salsa and chips at a Mexican restaurant or hushpuppies at seafood or bread at a steakhouse but this is popcorn at Dunleavy's. Hopefully more bars pick up on the popcorn deal. The atmosphere is cozy with pictures of people all around the globe in Dunleavy's shirts and a variety of license plates on the ceiling. For food, we had the chicken nachos which got the job done. They were yellow round chips loaded with chicken, jalepenos, cheese, tomatos and lettuce topped with a side of sour cream and salsa. This place did justice when we needed a snack while avoiding the rain and we got a table for 5 right away which was pretty lucky! read more

Not as busy as Home Team down the street so we thought that it would be a quick bite before the beach. 4 empty tables and only 2 servers, one didn't want to take our order because she rather worry about the 2 large parties. 100% agree with James G's 1/17/17 review of Shep Pie. Not only was it rubbery steak in a stew slop with chunky bland mashers plopped in the middle, but their website advertises it as a Tuesday Blue Plate for $7.50 but now it's $9.50 and 1/4 of the quality that it used to be. The food cost/corner cutting here is blatant. Go for beer not for any semblance of well-cooked Irish food. Dunleavy's likely the worst food on the island now save the gas station hot dogs, which might be better cooked than the steak in the Shepherds Pie. read more

The jewel of Sullivan's Island. Owned by the Dunleavy Family, this is a taste of Boston on the beaches of Charleston. The wings are grilled and amazing, the beer is cold and fresh and the music is worth a dance or two. This is a great place for groups or just to have a quick beer after laying on the beach. Never in my life have I experienced such shock and disappointment - they don't have fries on the menu and I'd ordered a burger! Well, clutch my heart! That doesn't seem right somehow. Is this even legal? Three pathetic sides to choose from and I got the lamest, coleslaw. Does anyone ever crave coleslaw? Coleslaw is an afterthought like when you text your annoying ex you can't stand because everyone is busy and you don't feel like going out alone. This place was one of the best neighbor hood bars I've ever been to! I travel a lot for work and going to catch a football in the afternoon here was a great experiance! The locals all talk to you like they've known you for years. The food there is EXCELLENT for any highend restaurant, let alone a small pub. Great atmosphere too! We meet a group here for wings on Wednesdays. Their simonized wings seem to have just enough kick to them for my husband and I. I think wings are more spicy in the north, so don't let them scare you when they say they are very hot. We are a little younger than the crowd that gathers here, so we typically only go to see friend on Wednesdays for cheap beer and amazing wings! read more

THIS PLACE SUCKS! My mom had read about it in a book and was so excited to try it when she was in town visiting from Kentucky. We went around 4pm so the place was nearly dead. The bartender was so unfriendly and non-sociable when we told him about my mom's excitement to try the place that I wanted to turn around and leave immediately. We ordered drinks anyways and checked out the decor. We sat at a table hoping the waitress would be more friendly. She ignored us for 20+ minutes until we finally asked her if we could order some food. She told us it was 'bar service only' even though we saw her helping another table! Overall, I HATED THIS PLACE. This is the place to be if you are on Sullivans Island. The beers are always cold and the food is remarkable. Not your standard pub food either. They make their own burgers onsite and have fantastic specials. The bartenders and wait staff are extremely friendly (even to the tourists) and you cannot beat the free, fresh popcorn. This place absolutely rocks! 50 cent wings for happy hour Monday to Friday is unreal. Also by far the best wings on the island. My server taylor was everything you would want! Imagine the perfect family Irish Pub experience - at the beach. Look in the book rack to find books on Irish Trivia and Surnames. Guinness on tap of course tops the list, and it is good. Everything we had was a cut above; the Fish Stew, the Sheperd's Pie, the Rueben & Chicken Cheesesteak, all yum. The home-made cole slaw deserves special mention. The interior is all warm wood, and the top of the walls are lined with beer cans of unheard-of sorts. Sunday night we went, and found Irish guitar and great live fun entertainment. Not good. Thr bread the the hamburgers came on was so dry it killed the burger. The menu says it comes with chips so, you're thinking it comes with raw fries or at least French fries and not stale ruffles. The waitress hardly ever came around(place was pretty empty), and even messed up on running my card. Ran it twice for 1 order. I did get to see my game on tv but everything else was terrible. Stopped in for lunch and decided to give it a try despite the stale beer smell permeating the dining room. I ordered the shrimp burger with chips; my husband ordered the reuben with pasta salad on the side. The sandwiches were good. The pasta salad was rancid; the mayo had clearly gone bad. Unfortunately, this was not discovered until after he had taken a bite. We told our server that the mayo was spoiled. She did offer to bring another side though he declined. We were surprised the manager or owner never stopped by to apologize for serving us rotten food or even to assure us that he'll address the obvious lapse in quality and food safety procedures. To add insult to injury, we were charged full price for the meal. There was no concern or regard for the fact that their food made my husband sick to his stomach. Needless to say, we will never step inside this place again. A word of advice: Be sure to smell your food BEFORE taking a bite at Dunleavy's Pub!!! read more
