Saltwater Cowboys was such a great place to grab lunch for the weekend! I absolutely loved everything about the ambiance. The beautiful view of Shem Creek and its oysters, passing boats, marsh, and wildlife! I sat right beside the railing, where we could see it all! Now to the good part, the food! The selection of drinks was huge. I settled on a frozen one, the Golden Crush! It was delicious and paired great with the hot summer day. To eat, I started off with the colossal pretzel appetizer which came cut up and drizzled in queso. This was the only item I ordered that I didn't care for. For the main dish, I got the Saltwater Combo so I could enjoy a selection from both the Southern Fried Seafood options and the House-Smoked BBQ options. My options? The grouper fingers & St. Louis spare ribs with the sides of cowboy baked beans and mac n cheese. The whole plate did not disappoint! It was delicious!! Meh. I'll start with food. The corn appetizer was fair. I've had much better. Pretzel was good. Fried shrimp was mediocre - wife said she'd not order that again. Giant burger was decent. It is such a pretty restaurant/rooftop. We ended up going all the way to the rooftop. Specifically because I wanted a view of the water. We ended up seeing dolphins in the water which was beautiful! Recently visited Saltwater Cowboys for lunch after work and finally had the chance to try their food after only stopping in previously for drinks. Their menu offers a wide variety of options, making it difficult to choose, but I ultimately decided on the grilled grouper sandwich with a side of coleslaw. The grouper was cooked perfectly--and served on a brioche bun with lettuce, tomato and a lemon dill tartar sauce. The coleslaw paired nicely with the sandwich and made for a well-balanced meal. I also ordered a Tito's and soda, which complemented the meal well. Overall, it was a great first dining experience, and I look forward to returning to try more of the menu. They do not take reservations, so we waited about 30 minutes for a table, but I think it was honestly worth it for the view. For food, we got the chicken tacos and fries. The tacos were just okay, nothing to brag about, and the fries were decent. Not bad, but nothing super memorable. The service was great though. Went here for lunch on a beautiful Friday afternoon since I was on this side of town for a doctor appointment (James Island is my usual vibe). I realize this place doesn't get the greatest ratings, but I gotta say: my meal and experience as a whole was AWESOME! I sat at one of the outdoor bars overlooking the water. Absolutely gorgeous setting! The bartender, Talia, was superb! Really sweet girl from Boston (Red Sox fan...sorry you Yankee haters) who was quite engaging and always quick to respond to every request. I ended up getting the pick two fried seafood platter with flounder and oysters. Decided to get my vitamin D, so I ordered asparagus and collards. Everything was SPOT ON. Saltwater Cowboys delivered a great Shem Creek experience especially for a group of 21 (yes, twenty-one) and the friendly staff handled it like pros. While we would've loved to snag outdoor seating, it was a colder night so we opted for indoors, which was still perfect considering quick access to the top floor which had a perfect view of the sunset along Shem Creek. Pro tip: Go early if you have a larger group. We intentionally arrived well before 6pm knowing (a) they don't take reservations and (b) a group our size could mean an extended wait even during a holiday weeknight. That decision paid off. Parking was easy and we were seated without an issue. Shoutout to the two staff members managing our tables, they were efficient, attentive, and somehow kept everything running smoothly. Even more impressive, our drinks and food came out quickly, which was a pleasant surprise given the size of our group. Most were in the mood for BBQ and it did not disappoint. The brisket, wings, and pulled pork were favorites and absolutely hit the spot. The only consistent note from the table was that the collard greens leaned a bit salty but honestly, that didn't stop me from almost cleaning my plate. We stopped by Saltwater Cowboys for drinks, and overall it was a mixed but pleasant experience. We ordered four cocktails: Cheery Cherry Chocosaurus ($17) Miracle Mouse ($17) Dancing Sugarplums ($16) Snowball Old-Fashioned ($16) The total came to $66, which is already on the pricey side for four drinks--but what really stung was the 16% liquor tax, adding another $10.56. Definitely something to be aware of before ordering. On the positive side, my drinks were excellent. The Dancing Sugarplums was well-balanced and festive without being overpowering, and the Cheery Cherry Chocosaurus was rich and fun with great cherry-chocolate flavor--both very enjoyable and well crafted. Unfortunately, my husband wasn't as impressed with his. The Miracle Mouse ended up being very sweet (and he normally likes sweet drinks). He mentioned it to the bartender, who kindly added some water, but for the price point it was disappointing to need an adjustment. The Snowball Old-Fashioned was fine, but nothing memorable or special. That said, you definitely come here for more than just the drinks. The atmosphere and scenery are a big part of the appeal--it's a great waterfront spot with a fun, lively vibe. They also have three separate bars, which helps with crowds, and I confirmed that they are pet-friendly on the outdoor patios, which is a huge plus. A time was had! Chris was the man on this night and transformed the experience without a doubt. 5 out of 5 performance!!! The food was quite tasty and I'm happy I trusted the recommendations. The grouper fingers were really like fillets and I was ok with that. Seasoned and fried to perfection served fresh and hot. The trash can nachos were also tasty. I did realize the protein you ask for is likening the same from the bbq menu. The chicken was the same as the pulled smoked. The three meat combo was challenging to decide on since there were several options. The pulled pork was my favorite followed by the spare ribs. The smoked chicken was good but I preferred it to be whole pieces and less of the paprika. Now the side have to be discussed. The collard greens and red rice were amazing. Honestly it tasted like someone's grandma was in the back making it happen. If they competed in a soul food contest I believe they'd do rather well in the area. Mind you this isn't a soul food restaurant and very much a bar. Now there were som technical issues and smell of fresh paint from some recent renovations done. Chris could fix the paint but he jumped into the role as a handy man fixing the tv issue and to get the game on before overtime ended. We are visiting South Carolina for a ball tournament. This is one of the places that was on our list to visit so that we could sit by the water outside possibly see some boats and dolphin activity while we were there. We did look at the menu and I read several reviews as usual. We arrived about 530 and we did not wait to be seated. We were sat right beside the water, which was nice for the children. The birds would come in and still fries if you laid them beside you. Took us a minute to decide what we wanted we did have the bacon deviled eggs, which I would rate just average. They were in fact, just a deviled egg dressed up. Also ordered the street corn dip, which I will say at the end had a tad bit of a kick what seemed very salty to me not at all what I expected. The two children both had the burgers with cheese and they add whatever you would like on them, they decide they chose for fries. They say the burgers were 10 out of 10 and the fries were really fresh and they were good as well. My friend ordered the chips and queso and I try to chip as well., I'd say nothing special. It wasn't bad but didn't stand out in anyway. I had the 12 shrimp fried. They were fresh really good. My two sides were baked beans and coleslaw. Both of those were good as well. Our service was quick when we got there, but it did take some time throughout our visit to get things we asked for. I would say we would visit again possibly, but it would not be on our absolute to do list if we had to choose. The kids did enjoy the bird activity and it was nice to sit outside by the water. Saltwater Cowboys is right on the water at Shem Creek. It has a fun, lowcountry vibe. There is seating outside and inside, there is also bar seating outside and inside. On the weekends, there is usually live music on the patio. The windows mostly all look out at Shem Creek. If sitting outside on the deck, you will probably see dolphins! We love sitting outside on the deck with the kids. Everyone at Saltwater Cowboys is super friendly and we only waited a few minutes for a table inside. Our server was super sweet and did a great job keeping our drinks filled. We ordered the trashcan nachos to start and added the smoked chicken. The toppings were really good but the chips were kind of stale. We also ordered the crispy Brussel sprouts and the Big 'ol Boy Burger with sweet potato fries. The Brussel sprouts were pretty good. The sweet potato fries were delicious! The burger was delicious.. I just had a bite because I was full from the nachos but it was yummy! Food was delicious, 9 month old approved too! lol. We sat out on the patio for lunch and it was so wonderful getting to be on the water. I loved the entire vibe of this place and it took everything in me not to buy merch too, they had the cutest tshirts, keychains and hats available to buy. A great option to eat at on Shem Creek. Parking can be difficult so arrive early if you have a reservation. The menu if very seafood-forward but there are some other non-seafood options. Staff are pretty friendly but did seem rushed the entire time. The only major drawback was the noise. It was so loud even at just 6:30pm. I absolutely loved everything about the ambiance; when you first walk up to the restaurant, it feels like you're about to walk right into a large, beautiful, beach-front estate. Then, when you walk around the corner, you're greeted with a beautiful view of the marsh, which then leads into Shem Creek! My friends and I sat right beside the railing, where we could see directly into the ships docked in front of us, as well as feeling the sun glistening off of the water. As for the service and food, they were both solidly above average, and they seemed to have a nice selection of drinks. I wasn't ready to drink that early in the day, but one of my friends ordered an IPA that they had (in a can), and said that it was pretty good, and my other friend simply got one of the basic domestic beers in a bottle. (For what it's worth, my pink lemonade was pretty good. Lol.) To eat, I got a simple order of chicken nuggets and fries, to go along with an order of buttermilk biscuits. The biscuits were good, although I do wish they were a little bit warmer, and my nuggets and fries were really just your basic nuggets and fries. My friend said that his BBQ and collard greens were solid as well, and that he enjoyed them. Finally, our server, as well as all the other staff members I interacted with, were all very nice and friendly, and did an overall great job! A very buzzing place located in Shem Creek in the Charleston/Mount Pleasant area! My family and I (a party of 6) arrived before 5pm and we were able to sit outside by the water immediately. We ordered a ton of appetizers - a colossal pretzel, fried pickles, and trash can nachos. The trash can nachos were a fun order the way they deliver the food in a bucket and layer it on top of a plate. For my individual meal, I got a wedge salad with grilled shrimp. My husband ordered the southern fried seafood 2-item combo. The seafood was incredibly fresh. Service was wonderful. It was hot out and they made sure to consistently come to the table to make sure we were refilled with water. There was also an error with my meal (they forgot the grilled shrimp) and they fixed it immediately. This place felt massive between the restaurant and parking lot area. I believe there were 4 bars between the inside and outside. The restaurant is super dog friendly with a dog menu too. This place got super packed with a waitlist as we were leaving. Saltwater Cowboys before and after sunset are two different places. Before sunset, you can grab a cocktail and an appetizer and make sure to check out the dolphins going through the creek. I'm a huge fan of their trashcan nachos and their colossal pretzel. My favorite cocktail is the watermelon basil. Very refreshing with some great Taste of watermelon and a big sprig of basil. After sunset this lovely restaurant becomes a bar for young 20 something's. Boats can tie up on the dock and come in and out of the creek so always some great people watching opportunities. They have their own parking lot, which is dedicated to salt waters and nowhere else on Shem so make sure you're not leaving saltwater Cowboys to go to another restaurant while still parked in that parking space.
