We got a Togo order. It took them an hour to make our order, which is kind of insane, but they were busy. Fried ribs- 10/0 Mac n cheese fritters- 5/10. These were just ok; very dry and not much Mac n cheese. Pulled pork sandwich-10/10. Pork loin sandwich got soggy from the coleslaw. Great bbq! We got the pulled pork nachos, brisket sandwich, and Mac n cheese. Super generous portion of the nachos and they were great! Mac n cheese was creamy, smoky and white cheddary. Brisket was good but not as smokey as the pulled pork. We got a table quick despite it being busy. Food came out hot and fast. Service was great. Ambiance gave a sports bar sort of feel. After waiting in traffic to get off Sullivan's Island for about 30 minutes, we decided to just go ahead and grab dinner on the island before heading home. Stopped into Home Team on Saturday because I was just craving a game changer after sitting on the beach all day. I will warn it was VERY lively and the wait was long, but we got lucky and snagged a seat up at the bar, which was very enjoyable! I docked a star because my one issue with home team is the prices for what you get. If I'm going to a bbq restaurant (and I'm from the mountains of NC so I know good bbq) I'm expecting larger portions and more side options. However, the food is always delicious and I crave game changers regularly. Overall, home team is a great lively spot with pretty good bbq to check out. read more

Softshell crab season made us go to Home Team BBQ for this visit. We saw online they were having the special and we stopped by for a Monday lunch. The place was pretty full, but we found seats at the bar. The bartender was quick to greet us, offered menus and took our orders. They have a good draft beer menu which we appreciated, and we found one we liked. The softies showed up and they looked great. Perfectly fried, warm, with mayo, greens, a slice of tomato on a brioche bun. They were large, and so good. A nice surprise from a BBQ restaurant. We went to play Trivia, but they only play those games during winter months. So we had a great dinner, like we always do. Pulled-pork nachos, sandwiches, and pork ribs, all our favorites. And the frozen drinks are fun because my wife always buy an extra shot of rum to float on top. After two or three drinks, she is really funny (a once a year occurrence.) read more

We visited on a Friday night at 5pm and had about a 30 min wait to be seated - not bad! We aren't typically BBQ eaters but we wanted to get out of our comfort zone and have something different. Our daughter got the nachos and let it be known - 3 people could share these lol. She barely made a dent in them but she said they were really good. Home Team BBQ has to be one of the best BBQ I've had in a long time. They don't take reservations, so a party of 12 on a Saturday at 11:30AM I was expecting about an hour wait. It took about 20 minutes or so and we were sat. Service: incredible!! From the moment we walked in and put our names on the list to paying the bill they were awesome and so friendly. Food: if you like wings I highly suggest getting them for an appetizer. I do not care for blue cheese, but I was able to overlook it and enjoy the savory wings. The pulled pork sandwich was piled high with pork and my side was mac n cheese which was very creamy. Definitely a must try. The Mac n cheese balls were good not great. I would look at other items on the menu for an appetizer. I did see another table place and order of their nachos and they looked super good and piled high. Great place for a no shower happy hour coming in off the beach from Sullivans island. For drinks I'd recommend either the Irish coffee or a game changer ! It also has some of the best BBQ in town. Only downside is there can be quite a long wait on college football game days (big Georgia bulldogs bar) so get there early read more

Their sauces sit at the table, and are more vinegar based and thin! This was different from what I'm used to, but I enjoyed the sweet red on my sandwich! They had a allergy coded menu, which does make it easier to find allergy safe foods, but options were quite limited for my friend with Celiacs. She ordered pulled pork, no bun and no sides. This Sullivan's island BBQ is the real deal. Had just been to a few iconic Texas bbq places, and Home Team had well crafted food. We were greeted by an incredibly friendly hostess who seated us quickly, and the server immediately connected with us and took our drink order. Through out the evening, service was friendly and efficient offering up hot food and clearing the table in a timely way. Impressed by the execution of the restaurant. Started with the wings that were perfectly cooked - flavorful rub that was crusty with juicy meat. Alabama white sauce was a nice complement. For dinner, had the pulled pork that was exceptional, ribs that were bbq'd to perfection with a slight crust and moist. For me, brisket is a good gauge of bbq technical execution and it didn't disappoint. Good choice of beer and craft beer. Had a few nicely mixed drinks. Wow. Just. Wow! So I went as part of a business networking dinner. Wait was around 30-40 minutes - not bad: we walked down to the beach and back. We sat down, those I was with ordered the "Game changer" cocktail, and they noted the nutmeg was a great touch. I ordered their SOB (beer, the acronym for which I don't recall) - it was very drinkable. Then, we ordered "the board." Good for 5-6, maybe 4 if very hungry (we were a party of 3). It came with...get ready...Chicarones, pulled pork, ribs, turkey, smoked sausage (turned out to be cheddar sausage), and wings. I can't remember if there were any other meats. There may have been brisket. We decided, if you're going to go to a barbecue place, gotta hit all the bases. It also came with 3 pint size sides...we went with Mac and cheese and coleslaw at our server's recommendation, and then the collard greens which were cooked with pulled pork. Every. Single. Bite. was amazing. I don't know if I've had as rewarding of a meal anywhere else. This might be top five of all time for me, and I have no idea what I'd put in the other four slots. Oh, and every table has a flight of barbecue sauces, each amazing. The board came with some kind of ranch sauce but less creamy and more vinegar-zingy. Delectable!! It also came with something called "duck sauce" or was it "duck butter"? I can't remember: it was "habeñero, jalapeño, and a few other peppers I don't remember" (server's words) ground up together into a paste. It tasted like hot honey because it was sweet, but consensus was that it was delightfully spicy. Definitely enjoy that if you come here. Our server was responsive and kind, and despite the boisterous atmosphere on our high-top table, it was perfectly fine and we had a great time. (Read: don't come here when it's busy if you don't like loud places OR ask for a nice seat outside.) Overall, this was my introduction to Charleston outside of the hotel for the conference where I am, and I just have to say 10/10 would fly across the country again for this. Wow! read more

We ordered a brisket platter with potato salad and chili for our sides and 6 wings along with a sweet tea. The food came out quickly, was very tasty, and our server was great. The brisket with the mustard and red sauce was great so were the wings and potato salad, the chili was good, but I'd try something different. Y'all, this place is beyond outstanding! If you are considering eating here, consider no more, and just Go. Barbecue is not normally my first choice, but this is WAY MORE than a run of the mill BBQ place. Our server, Anabella was also beyond outstanding! She was smiling and bubbly, making us feel welcome and comfortable, and her recommendations were spot on. The menu had the daily specials attached, which were fried ribs with Alabama sauce, Mac and cheese balls with tomatillo jam, broccoli casserole and banana pudding. There were so many interesting and delicious looking items on the regular menu as well, so we ordered 3 of the specials (minus the pudding, as I am not a banana fan), bbq sliders (the sliders came with either brisket or pork - brisket was sold out already, but the pork was so good) and the baked queso that had chorizo, corn and dollops of a delicious sauce on top which was served in a cast iron dish, keeping it warm throughout the meal. All of it was phenomenal!!! I joked with my husband it was as if a 5 star chef was fed up with fine dining, but still wanted to make super delicious/wonderful food combinations. We had plenty of leftovers which went with us to the hotel. Normally if we had leftovers, I would toss them before we checked out. I brought this food along and put it in the cooler, it is THAT GOOD! Pricing is great! Atmosphere is laid back and super fun...rock music playing, people laughing, socializing and genuinely enjoying themselves. We did see two large groups, with each having platters that were stacked with different BBQ options, so if your group is large, they have you covered. They have five or six sauce options on the table (Red, Spicy Red, Mustard, Sweet Red, I can't remember the others), but the spicy red was our favorite! We've been going to Home Team for a decade and have always enjoyed the combo platters so we don't have to choose just one meat. When with the boys, we usually go with The Board so we can "have it all." Solid wings, tasty ribs, moist pork, and a HUGE sauce selection. We've been to all the locations and have to say that we've been most (overall) impressed with the West Ashley service, food, taste, and efficiency. The Sullivan's HT gets busy so put your name in right away, grab a Gamechanger, wait patiently for your table, then put your order in RIGHT away. Servers are always friendly; however, the Sullivan's servers get overwhelmed with the crowds and "tight" dining room layout. They have a nice selection of local beers, the frozen Gamechanger (Painkiller), and frozen Irish Coffee. I enjoyed the Gamechanger, but my wife's frozen Irish Coffee is something I could drink everyday! Their barbecue is some of the best I've had outside of Texas. We went back for lunch the day we were leaving because our first experience was so good. I had their special both times, first pastrami and then burnt ends. We also had the smoked wings which were very good without any sauce. My wife loved their pulled pork. We had the same waiter both times and our service was amazing!
