The historic building this coffee house is in is awesome, the coffee was fantastic, and the service was good. I recommend the egg and cheese burrito which is not overwhelmingly big and was delicious. From the outside it seems like it would be inconvenient to get to, but actually they have dedicated parking behind the building which is a huge benefit considering this location is downtown. They also roast their own beans in house which is not commonplace and you can see the actually roasting machine here. Of course with that being said there are also several different variety of beans available to purchase per pound to take home. For non coffee drinkers they also have an assortment of mixed drinks that include Mountain Dew like the blue raz (coconut milk, blue raspberry) and the wild dew's (coconut milk, mango) along with a Red Bull infusion. The space is actually quite cozy and would seem like an ideal spot to read, work, or study. Service was also prompt and fast at both taking and completing my order. read more

1st time here. Coffee is great. I don't know if it's because I'm old school, but I expected a "hi", "hello", some type of greeting when I'm the only customer in there and there's 3 people working. It's called customer service. Something to work on perhaps? I get that being in downtown, you're getting the locals and people that frequent there, so they know what they want without the hassle of saying hello. But being that you're steps away from a hotel (and you're in downtown) you might want to think that people coming might also be tourists or non-locals coming for a convention or work and being nice and memorable will almost guarantee return customers. read more

We arrived at 3:45 on Saturday for coffees and a smoothie. We had our elderly but amazingly with it mother with us. She needs a cane for walking. We were told they close at 4. We ordered and sat down. At 3:50 an employee tells us they are closing in 10 minutes then begins to vacuum around us. Honestly why bother serving us. We really felt disrespected. I went to Dunn Brothers Coffee with friends on a cooler day and this location had a great upstairs space for that. I got a Raspberry White Chocolate Mocha Latte and asked for it with less pumps to make it less sweet and it was the perfect level! I looked at the allergens ahead of time and the Frappe White Chocolate Pistachio was the only item on the menu that contained wheat, this helps reduce a chance of contamination in the preparation of the drinks. The staff was helpful in helping me determine how sweet the drink was and it came out quickly. It came to about 6.60 for a medium latte and was the perfect drink for a cool day. Cute little corner coffee spot with multiple floors to work/study, located just a block or two from the Mississippi River. I got here about an hour before close on a Sunday, and it wasn't very busy. One of the best coffee shops downtown for work. It is two levels so you can be on the top floor without hearing all of the people ordering and coming in and out. There's also an entire wall of outlets for charging. The breakfast sandwiches are also some of my favorite in the city. They have choices or if you feel inspired you can build your own. However they make the best coffees specialty drinks. The Shaken Blackberry & Caramel iced Nirvana truly lives up to the name. Located next to our hotel we stepped inside for a more local flavor and flare. Cute old brick building houses this freshly roasted and brewed coffee establishment. If you are a coffee enthusiast you won't be disappointed. They had several food options to choose from and delivered to the counter with enthusiasm. My husbands breakfast sandwich was plentiful and hit the spot. I had avocado toast and it comes with an egg on top. Sadly, outside of the good bread it was a disappointing. The "avocado" portion of the toast was lacking. There was barely any...it was very lightly spread on like butter on toast that didn't reach all four corners or the edges and the egg was over hard. I wouldn't recommend ordering if you are an avocado toast fan. I would definitely go again for the coffee and try something else on the menu. read more

Found myself here after a New Years Day November Project workout and the staff was great! Especially with 30 overly eager post workout participants lined up. The staff was absolutely gracious! We sat in the area upstairs which had ample space and the location was just fantastic! I had been here years before for a group project and found the location superiorly accommodating to really anything you would find yourself there for! As a black coffee drinker their black coffee is outstanding, as are their other specialty drinks I have treated myself to in other stops. I would definitely recommend it! And they have a small little lot that makes it easy to get in and out of if you are grabbing something while out and about ! read more

The egg sandwich add on options are everything! You can choose what kind of bread and meat you want, but not just your regular options. You can get a freakin biscuit! English muffin. Croissant. Sure, those are your regulars, but to have the option of a flakey delicious biscuit was gold. The meat options went beyond their regular options; pun intended because they had beyond sausage. Perhaps, this is a thing in Minneapolis, but, as a visitor, this option was very nice to see. The drink options are great too. I had the carmelized almond latte, and it was on point. Of course we needed to hit up one Dunn Brothers while in Minneapolis. We had driven past this one and the building looked beautiful, so we were imagining the interior also to be amazing (ala Spoon and Stable, where we dined last night), but no. They basically converted it into a Panera or Cosi. It looks completely generic and uninteresting and not very clean at that. We order one iced chai, one iced coffee, and a pistachio muffin. The muffin was that almond extract/green food coloring variety with a few pistachios thrown in that we find unpleasant--also, it really stuck to the wrapping paper. The drinks were both pretty good. Wednesday morning, after breakfast in the hotel, I am standing out in front of the hotel, still groggy, as the mini sized cup of coffee I had with breakfast is not nearly enough to kick start my groggy brain. As I am standing there - waiting for the valet to ask him about getting a cab, I smell something. Something familiar, something so potent that it could be considered a drug, an attractor... It takes me a minute to realize what it is - it's smoke coming out of a stack from a little brick building next door, smoke from the process of roasting coffee beans from one of those old fashioned industrial looking roasting machines. Reminded me of what I used to smell at Jamie's General Bean in Centreville, VA. I love this smell - it could very well make my top five list of the very best smells in the world. I smiled when I realized what it was. I knew then my destiny was sealed, I would be walking next door for coffee. Oh yes. I ordered my coffee, then I told the girl at the counter: "You do know that you all are evil - right?" She looked puzzled. I continued: "Luring us in with the delicious and intoxicating smell of roasted coffee bean smoke." She laughed. This location IS VERY hip and chill. I'm hoping to have a few minutes to spend here tomorrow morning to hang for a bit. read more

I know it is a chain but this location is probably one of my favorite coffee places in the Twin Cities. I love, love, love the location in an old building from the era of Minneapolis Flour Industry boom. Plenty of table seating on two levels and if you are lucky to sit by a window, some neat views of the city. Dunn Bros' coffee is pretty good as well and I wouldn't shy away from getting some of their freshly roasted coffee or espresso drinks. Claim to Fame: I once displayed some of my photos and artwork here when I went through my hipster cameraman days in college. Yeah, I'm pretty much a big deal folks... =) read more

I have been waiting awhile to review this location and have not been marking check ins promptly so I could judge service better depending on who is on shift. The location is convenient. This place gets marks and credit for creative use of an abandoned building, although they had much support and encouragement from the city in the rehab plans. Love the wooden staircase and original brick walls. Now to the employees. I know of one friendly helpful barista at this location but only seen him here once. Often there is a man and woman working the counter and when ordering a drink the poor gal has to put her phone down and hold on her texting. She frowns and sighs and quickly goes about preparing the drink. She mumbles the drink name not making eye contact if someone is waiting nearby as she picks up the phone, leans back on the counter and resumes her texting. When Dunn's had Elixir Shaken Tea (now eliminated) this location refused to complete the process by shaking the drink. The products seem to be up to Dunn's fine standards and there is a decent selection of food. Awards have probably been awarded for building design so I give three stars. There has to be some fine tuning by management and this place will hum. read more
