I am a Do-it-yourselfer and restore a lot of cool old antiques. I did my research online before visiting Dunn Edwards and found I wanted their "Straight to metal" paint. I took a piece of the antique with me to the store. I was helped as soon as I walked in, and they color matched the piece perfectly. The paint went on easy and settled on the piece beautifully. I couldn't be happier, and since the store is just around the corner, I will be back. read more

This place is horrible!! I am 36 weeks pregnant and we are painting my baby's nursery so I went here to get paint to touch up a wall in the bedroom. I'm not a painter and don't know the different sheens when it comes to paint so naturally, I asked for help like any customer would. The customer lead Miguel was rude and sassy with me and made me feel uncomfortable with his demeaning tone. He even rolled his eyes at me when he asked me something and I didn't know what the terms meant. There was no need for that type of customer service and I was shocked to encounter this at a paint store of all places. It was so bad that I had to tell him to stop talking to me like that. Usually I would just ignore it. He didn't even apologize or say he didn't mean it and kept being rude. How the eff is he the customer lead?! He must hate his job. This was my first visit to Dunn Edwards Placentia. I will never go back again. The service and attitude of "Jessie" was unacceptable. I identified myself as a contractor and wished to open an account. I offered our contractors license number. I offered the names and phone numbers of painters that work for our company as well. Jessie wanted nothing to do with it. It was clear a new customer to this store had no value. I ended up purchasing the Dunn Edward hard specification paints at the non contractor rate. The additional paints that I could color match was filled at Sherwin Williams down the street. It was just a bad experience. read more

The paints are great. The staff - not so much. We asked an employee a few questions about the interior painting process. He said he's worked there for years, but it was clear this is just a register job to him and he doesn't care about the product or industry. He couldn't answer most of our questions. When we asked him about cleaning the walls before painting, he said there was no brochure or anything that said you need to clean the walls. This is false - not only does one of their brochures specifically mention cleaning the walls before painting, they literally have a sign next to the interior paints that says to clean the walls before painting. The only questions he *could* answer were about prices. read more

If I can leave a negative*I will , the old guy on the right side has some serious bad racist attitude , we are Taiwaness and been there earlier this year when my printer contractor send me there to get simple for our house paint job at that time we pick up 4 simples and have never been ask to pay for it , however this time we went in there and give the old guy my contracted phone # and tell him we need to get few simples for our house again when my wife pick the color and hand it over to him he charges us $20 and I ask him why we have to pay this time he replay because I didn't tell him I Contractors Info which is a lie at that time he was finishing the transaction and told me is only $20 and I told him too late he already made up his mind want us to pay and I told him is not the money is the principal and I told him first thing I do when I come in is give you my contractors info and you pull it out right away and we even have a conversation. We both know this guy over 30 years.and he told me is too late now to cancelled or refund , then he star walking away , I went to the the other counter n ask for manger the guy listen to what I said and decide give me refund ! Is not the money is how he try to force me to pay $20 ! He has a bad day May be consider his age he should be more understanding as a employee n not try to treat people differently ! I'd like to give a 5 star review to our color consultant, Monserrat Juarez. She did an amazing job! The colors that she picked for our home are perfect and really lightened up the place as before it was a lot of dark browns and beiges all over. Also she was extremely patient as she would get on the phone with us or respond to several messages for many many weeks as she guided us to the perfect color scheme for our interior home renovation. Not a fan of this place for sure. Why was I there? I went with my dad to order some paint and we got terrible customer service.. the sales associate (the first one) we encountered was impatient and gave us this "what do you want?" look... not helpful at all.. and not willing to provide a discount (this I can understand why it's a problem, but at least be helpful..) The second sales came to help us, not because he wanted to, but the first one told him to ring us up for whatever reason...?!! Anyway, don't plan on going back there, at least, not alone. read more

The most grossly incompetent customer queuing system I've ever encountered (i.e. there is none). The woman before me waited 25 min just to place her order, and I waited about 30 for placing/receiving my paint order. The problem? Customers filter in through two entrances, and the staff have no idea who arrived first, so they leave it to customers to figure out by shouting, "Who's next??" No numbers to take, no guide ropes to create order. Meanwhile, customers start getting annoyed within a few minutes of being here because they're not getting assistance and new walk-ins simply cut in line. I looked around and everyone had an impatient scowl. I tried to make suggestions for improvement, but the staff are too set in their ways to realize these simple line-control methods can prevent walk-outs and unhappy customers. When I got my paint order, they gave me two tins that had been spattered with fresh paint, and just passed them into my arms. I had to ask for a crappy paper bag with no handles to avoid getting paint on my clothes. read more

I had them color match a BM color and they did a great job but it turned out I didn't like the BM color. They went out of their way to help me find a color I liked and remixed the paint to what I was looking for. Jesse and his team provided excellent customer service and I was so grateful they were patient with me and took the time to make sure I was happy! We had a great experience with Lori. She did well and was very patient. 4 or 5 stars for her. However, she works for Dunn-Edwards. All was well until the very last thing. We bought multiple samples at various times, including supplies like brushes and primer. The painters we hired used the Dunn-Edwards paint. All was good. At the end of the job, we had a can of primer and a single brush left. Apparently, the brush was not on that receipt. It cost about $1.25. While our $5k + job did not go to Dunn-Edwards, all the paint did. The person who handled the return (not Lori) would only issue a store credit for the brush, and when I asked about it actually said "How do I know you didn't get the brush for free?" Really!?! Having policies so rigid that the associates cannot deal with trivial amounts is short-sighted. Having associates who question the integrity of their (ex) customers without cause is just plain stupid. We will never do business with the company again. We know it may cost DE far more in the future from us. I will relay this story to anyone considering where to get their paint. Enjoy your $1.25 brush, DE. read more

I would say somewhat helpful. The clerk didn't really seem interested in helping me. I felt that I had to do all of the asking. I had to pick out a color in just a few days. I left and returned because I really needed help. It was only then that I was told about a "Color Specialist" that was available. I ended up scheduling an appointment with Lisa and was SO pleased! She was SO helpful and very pleasant to work with! read more

Great experience, typically we're a Home Depot grab the paint and go type of people, but with the challenge of re-vamping the entire exterior, we reached out to Dunn Edwards for help. We stopped by the Placentia office and met their color consultant just as the store was closing up. She made us an appointment for the following week, and we couldn't have spent better time. Lori Grant did a terrific job of listening and guiding us through a process, to make both my wife, and I happy with the end result. She gave suggestions on décor other than color, that helped improve the overall project, and suggested local example we could evaluate. Reading our (sometimes non-verbal) responses to both color and design, helped dial in selections we were comfortable with, and in the end produced a great outcome. Ya know, I have to say the prices the Dunn Edwards company tries to charge are outlandish. The paint is fine, it's just what they are trying to charge. Normally I just ignore overpriced companies and avoid them. But this deserves the light of day. $43 for gallon of paint? Interior flat paint. Nothing special at all. How does that compare to the prices at Walmart, the largest retailer in America? Well, at Walmart you can buy Dutch Boy paint for about $10-$12 a gallon. Clearly all interior latex flat paint is similar, even if Dunn Edwards' paint is somehow *better* it can't cost that much more to make than the Dutch Boy, now can it? Even if it were twice as good and cost twice as much to make, even that wouldn't account for this. At Home Depot, it's pretty easy to get interior flat paint for $12-$15 a gallon or even less. They have some that is more but *nothing* that approaches the price at Dunn Edwards. Admittedly you can get an Auto Club discount at Dunn Edwards (and at their similar competitor, Sherwyn Williams) but that still doesn't put it anywhere near the competition. Dunn Edwards is not advertised as a discount operation. No problem with that. But this is ridiculous. I really couldn't see how they could support their asking price or how they stay in business. They do have a lot of professional painters buying paint there- probably at *much* less than they try to get from us. If you don't have an account get ready to really, really pay if you buy from Dunn Edwards. I'm staying away. I recommend you do the same. I don't buy from anyone who overcharges. Or sells to someone else for much less, unless it's in quantity. There is nothing they have that you really need, and whatever they do have, it's being sold at inflated prices, maybe like you'd expect to pay on Pluto. Bad idea, in today's economy how can they afford to drive customers away? I can't imagine what their business model is but it doesn't make any sense to me. Save at least half your money by buying virtually anywhere else. read more

I was determined to paint my room but had very little idea on what to do about till I decided to stop by this location. I went in and was welcomed right away by an employee. He showed me some colors and allowed me to bounce some ideas off of him. It was great to have his input. After about 10 minutes he sold me on a color and the tools that I would need. Recently went to this location. In fact, my first time to Dunn-Edwards. My contractor used their paint and I had to do some touch up. I had to make two trips. The first time the guy working the counter had a professional painter give me some advice. I found that helpful. I did end up purchasing some tape I didn't need but no big deal. The second time I went I needed paint, because I had not gathered enough information to purchase the first time. The guy that helped me seemed pretty new. I wanted a quart and another guy came and told me he didn't have a quart but would a sample work? It did and I was thankful. However, the new guy didn't know how to void the first transaction and credit me for the quart, then charge me for the sample. He would ask for my credit card, tell me he was finished, ask me for it again, then asked for it again. I kept putting the card in my wallet and back in my pocket only to retrieve it again. He apologized and gave me a grin that was probably embarrassment, but after the third time it was slightly annoying. However, all in all I was pleased and would go back again. read more

Having the interior of my house painted this month. Decided on colors and went to Dunn Edwards for sample cans because my painter uses Dunn Edwards. Was waited on as soon as I walked in. Great. Clerk said it would take about 10 minutes. Went next door and ordered a sandwich to go which took about 10 minutes. When I came back, store was pretty much empty. A different clerk asked if he could help me and I said that I was waiting for sample cans. He said, "Oh I see" and went into one of the two manager's offices not checking on my order. Waiting, waiting, waiting. Finally, I asked the stock girl if someone was working on my samples. She went into the back room and there seemed to be some confusion. After a few minutes, the clerk that waited on me came out of the back. Came out and said, "Oh, there are right here". They were sitting on the front counter all of this time. 2 managers in their offices with windows looking out onto the floor, must have seen me pacing around the store. No help. Not sure we understand the bad reviews. Went in there today and had a great experience. They were extremely helpful, pleasant and knowledgeable. It's refreshing to go in and have seasoned staff. Maybe their paint is not the cheapest, but you we found you get what you pay for. When we have purchased big box warehouse paint in the past, then tried to clean the walls, it wipes off! We've never had this happen with Dunn Edward's paint. Definately recommend and wonderful experience today at the Placentia location. Thanks!! read more

I'm not sure where to start. It's all about customer service, or lack thereof. I went to the Placentia location looking to purchase 8 gallons of paint with all the other supplies i would need. The store was empty with one Rep behind the counter talking on the phone. I could hear his conversation as I waited for ten minutes listening to him talk about his pants to someone. I walked around the store without even being acknowledged. When Mr. pants "are more important " than customers finally got off the phone he immediately told me he could not help me because he had to go to another store. I couldn't believe this. After waiting for him to finish his mindless conversation he can't help me. Needless to say after being a customer there for 15 years I will never go back and by the way, the people at Vista paint were happy to match the paint and were super friendly. My advice is to skip the headache and find another paint store. I did and I'm quite happy with my new paint store. read more

Considering I have zero to no paint experience, employees not only assisted me with complimentary color schemes, but also instructed me on the proper paint application procedures. My first time to this Dunn Edwards Store and the staff are all very friendly and helpful. I am planning to have the whole house painted. I had all the colors picked out with Benjamin Moore but my painter recommended using D.Edwards instead so I had to get all paints match at Dunn Edwards. The rep who helped me name Kham is patient and helpful. Matching tens of colors I have to the closest ones D.E has. He even recommended for me to get a free consultation service offered by D.E with their paint specialist/ advisor. I walked out with a helpful employee of theirs volunteer to carry a box of paint samples for me. Overall a great experience. read more
