Super disappointed with McFadden Dale's failure to stand behind their tools. I've been a customer of their's for years but will no longer be buying tools from them. I purchased a Torx bit which I was told was "hardened". I was told it would not round off. The tool lasted about 2 seconds before rounding off. I took the tool back to MD with my receipt. I was told essentially they would not refund or return or replace the tool. MD's customer service is a poor example of standing behind a product. I ended up buying a bit from Harbor Freight which removed the bolt quickly. Not a good look for McFadden Dale. read more

I've been going to McFadden-Dale stores for 40 years. But this May 2024 review is about the Anaheim location. They are crushing it. They've added new sections, improved the lighting, snapped up their merchandising and filled out inventory. The staff and newish store manager deserve a big high-five. I hadn't been there in months and the improvements were obvious. This store has really upped its game! read more

Went there to .. 1) see if they had a certain bolt I got no help. I tried asking and was brushed off. I found the bolt and proceeded to purchase and or order 10,000 bolts 2) i asked an employee if he knew the price and he said " No I dont" and walked away. He didnt even try to help me. At that point I realized this store will NOT get my business. I ultimately found it elsewhere and turns out the color I needed was not a normal color. It generally is silver. So I purchased every bolt that was in stock which was 7500 @ 1.15 ea. Then the employee called their supplier and asked if there was more available in the color I needed. Turns out the supplier had 12000 pcs so to make sure I had the bolts in the color I needed at all times I went ahead an ordered all 12,000 pcs. All in all I purchased 19,500 pcs @ 1.15ea for a total of over 22k. Moral of this review... Never walk away from a customer. read more

WARNING!!! BE CAREFUL!!! We go to hardware stores to purchase items for the project we are working on and if we're lucky, they have it. If not then it's online shopping. In this place you'll find yourself with new ideas and projects popping up in your mind on every isle you walk down. It's like an AMAZON Hardware Store in real life right in front of your eyes and everything is right there on the shelf ready to buy with no waiting. If your arms fill up with new project solutions and you forgot what you actually came in for, you can ask anyone in the store if they have the item and they'll walk you right over to where the item is, because they have it, you just didn't see it. They have the things the other places do, plus the things the other places don't. It's like the hardware store from the 60's. A real one. I needed a few things at the Depot last night they didn't have and this place had them in stock just hanging there waiting for me, plus a few extra things that caught my eye as well. EDIT: They don't have refrigerators, washer or dryers like a department store. They don't have doors, widows or lumber like a lumber supply. They don't have carpet and flooring like a floor store. They have springs, tools, wheels, rope, wire, nuts & bolts small and larger then 1/2" like bulldozer size. They have piano hinges that you can weld onto a 1/4" steel lid. McFaddendale is probably my favorite hardware store line! This one is Honestly, not my favorite McFaddendale's... I have a bad taste in my mouth because they don't have the o rings the stores more inland carry. It seems like they have a limited variety. Pets My main issue is the experience. It feels like I am at a auto parts shop, not at a a McFaddendales store! It's like getting Applebees takeout and skipping the experience of being there. What I am saying is, McFaddendales is my favorite because it is like a maze that you can explore and imagine and work out your project with hands on products. Came here on 5/28/19 to get some copper washers we needed for the company I work for. David helped me with my order and was knowledgeable, professional and easy to deal with. I normally get my supplies at the McFadden-Dale near our shop in Santa Ana but they didn't have what we needed so I came here. This store is fully stocked, has friendly employees and easy parking. Had a bad experience today. I walked in about 12pm, not busy. Guys are standing around. So I'm at the counter and straight in front of me are the tools I need. All I needed was a 21mm and 22mm sockets. There was a young guy to my left and two guys on my right. Not one person said anything. The guy on my left at the counter was on the computer, we made eye contact about 4 times. The guy on my right was finishing a bag of chips, then we made eye contact then he went back to his conversation with his Co worker. Nobody ever said, can I help you or we will be right with you. I have been here many times, this place a good store that sales great tools. I won't be back anytime soon. Because the service sucked today. read more

This place is like a toy store. We could spend hours in here if not for the really poor air quality/circulation. Customer service is friendly for the most part given that this is a hardware store. Most employees are helpful with a handful being friendly, but none are rude. Nuts, bolts, screws, nails, hoses, studs, and countless other bits and bobs that you never knew you needed but discover you do. I can't really adequately describe the inventory of this store aside from the fact that they have entire aisle dedicated to different size washers and nuts. That's a small idea of what the store has in total. Come by and set aside some time to look around because it's really a lot of fun to see what's available. read more

Home Depot could not help me with my hardware needs, as I required a very small sheet metal screw and a very small cap nut. The employee in the hardware section recommended McFadden-Dale. I had never heard of them, but they are fairly close to my home. I went there and received excellent customer service, above and beyond, for a $0.40 sale! This store fills the gap between consumer, with their least-common-denominator solutions, and huge industrial suppliers. As far as hardware, tools, chemicals, household, & light industrial stuff, they have everything the big-box stores have and WAY MORE. Not just selection & variety, but they have things the big box stores definitely don't. The list is almost endless. It's easier to list the things they DON'T have. They don't have a big garden section with plants. Actually, I think they have no garden section with plants. They have a nice variety of gardening tools, but no Pittosporum. They don't have a big lumber selection. They have tons of the related hardware, though. They don't have barbecues or bathtubs, refrigerators or living-room shelving. They have the tools to put it together, all the fasteners to assemble it, and even the tools to make your own furniture, along with the stains, lacquers, paints, respirators, etc. They have just about every fastener you can imagine. They have machine tools, & grinding wheels, cart wheels, heck, I do cartwheels when I'm here. Funnels, little jars, electrical supplies, chemicals you can't get at the big box store, AND the staff knows what they're talking about. This place caters mainly to business, but there's plenty of regular consumers shopping there. I found out about this place when I couldn't find something, something not that exotic, at Home Depot. The retail clerk there smirked & asked "You don't know about McFadden-Dale? Just go there. They'll have what you need." And they did. read more

I was told about this hardware store a long time ago but never went. When I finally did a few years ago, I was blown away by the sheer variety of hardware selection. They have stuff for the pros as well as us homeowners. All the stuff you can't find at Ace, Home Depot, and Lowe's or True Value, will probably be found there. Not a giant store and the isles are tight, but you name it and they probably have it. Most of the shoppers there are working professionals but everyone is welcomed. I'll go to my local hardware for stuff, but when I don't want to waste my time shopping around for the hard to find stuff, I'll just go there first. Sorry if it sounds like a commercial, but it's important for us to be aware of what's out there. read more

You really have to know your stuff when you come in the store. This is a love-hate relationship type retail establishment. I love the fact that they have virtually anything you would ever need from a hardware store or hand tool center. The bad part is, if you're looking for something and if the counter guys don't know what it is, instead of researching it for you, they will tell you about their pedigree and how you do not know what you're talking about and tell you it doesn't exist. I am an R&D machinist by trade. I recently came in looking for a 14-20 NS bottom tap. Two guys at the counter laughed at me and told me how one has been there for 25 years and the other has been there for 32 years and that there is no such thing. I then gave them the Hanson part number (1235ZR) for the specific tap that I was looking for. They then again told me that it does not exist and that I didn't know what I was talking about. They tried to pass off a 1/4 - 20 tap as what I was really looking for and told me that I was incorrectly informed and it's really a 1/4 - 20 tap, not a 14-20NS tap cause it doesn't exist. Needless to say I went on Amazon and got it next day. Before these arrogant counter guys start giving people wrong information and making themselves look like fools, they should actually get online and Google the stuff their customers are asking for before puffing up their chest and telling you, the customer, how wrong you are and how you do not know what you're talking about. They should offer better customer service to their customers and help them out instead of acting like they are the all-knowing gods of hardware. So thank you Amazon for sending me what I needed!! Ok, I'm a fan, but not a big fan. I go here only when I need to - and there are times when this place really necessary! Mostly when i need something professional/commercial grade that isn't available at the big home improvement stores, or when a contractor needs something to complete the job - sending him here often works. Also if I need something simple like PVC or nuts/bolts in a big hurry this place works. Why not a big fan? Parking sucks in a truck, they should repaint the lines to angle parking since most of the customers are in trucks! The aisles are stacked very high and are small - a bit claustrophobic - but more of an overload - with minimal labeling and so many items it just isn't pleasant. I've felt the same way in some other stores like this - just too much on one aisle in too small of a space - what can i tell you, I just don't like it. There are many parts behind the counter - This is a pro store - IMO, not a typical hardware store. If you need help you need to go the counter and wait for one of the guys - It's also where you pay. As a pro store - customer service pleasantries are non existent. That's ok with me - I'm cool with pro stores - but others may not be, and you need to know that going in! Every time I go there I see some items I'll need someday - like parts for my pressure washer gun. Would usually need to order something like that online - but I can pick one up at MD Hardware right away and continue my project. So overall, I'm glad it's nearby, and I'm certain that I'll continue to visit from time to time! read more

They have just about everything for your project. The staff is very knowledgeable. I can honestly say that I've never walked away without the exact item I needed. I've replaced automotive bolts, picked up specialty hardware for my projects, bought alternate hardware to modify my motorcycle and purchased electrical and plumbing materials for home improvement projects. The fact that they have just about every variation of every type of bolt, nut or screw is a big deal for me. Some times I go in there with nothing but a problem and I walk out with the right nuts and bolts to fix my problem. read more

On a sunny afternoon, I was cruisin' 55 on La Palma Ave to the closest 7-11 in desperate need of Colt 45 and band-aids. Fortunately, I never got to 7-11, but I found everything I needed at the hardware store. McFadden-Dale's logo captures the confusion of color and motion. It turns any driver into a rubber-necker and draws you in. Now after you've asked, "How long has this been going on....how did I miss it... do they have other locations as terrific as this one" (sure they do)...you have become a full fledged member of the store's fan club. Welcome brother, and continue reading. Upon walking in, you start to wonder what-in-the-world kind of fellow runs this place. Surprise....the manager is a husky guy who could make bow knots out of iron bars. He also surrounded himself with other talented craftsmen who "dug" his a doer not a talker personality. These guys knew exactly what I needed when I explained the problem faced. I wanted to construct a metal cage for my Honda Civic rear seat. I live on a small family farm and often need to transport large amounts of chickens. It is incredibly hard to drive when you have two-hundred loose chickens going crazy in your cockpit. Having no A/C, it is also hard to keep the windows open. The guy walked outside and measured the area for me. He sold me exact amount of fencing material, brackets, and bolts. Good thing I listened to the guy and got mustard color spray paint to make the cage match the car. I couldn't be any happier with the results. All my friends are now jealous because it looks like the cage was an option that came with the car. My next project is making my trunk soundproof. I hate the looks I get from people while filling up at the gas stations. But I can't really make the chickens make any less noise otherwise. Very helpful non intimidating warm no frills. An associate at Home Depot-Brea recommended this spot as they were out of the hex bolt that I needed for our TV mount. I was a little bit intimidated since this place seemed like a 'real' hardware store and not so much a bigbox sort of everything store. Luckily when walked into this small store the first gentleman I saw greeted me warmly and asked me if I needed anything. Yes! I advised him that Home Depot was out of the bolt that I need and recommended that I come here...he stopped me and immediately directed me to the appropriate aisle. I got my funny hex bolt and was able to be in and out in a few minutes. I'm so appreciative that the staff here is helpful and non intimidating. I would absolutely come back here for any of my hardware needs, it was nice to be in a smaller store where the associates have time to really help. read more
