The woman who is supposed to help with choosing a paint color is not very good at her job. Also she is incredibly rude. I saw her mocking a customer behind her back. She was acting like it was soooo painful to actually help people. Like the customers were a big inconvenience in her day. read more

I went to this store recently for my first (and likely last) time. I prefer going to small paint stores because I can't stand the crowds, long lines and poor customer service at the big stores like Lowes and Home Depot. I have been to other Dunn Edwards stores many times, including the one in San Juan Capistrano, and have always found the service satisfactory. This is a newer location and looks very clean and organized. The problem for me was the complete and total lack of customer service. I walked in and there were 2 people ahead of me, so I stood in line at the front counter. There was only one employee visibly helping customers and things were moving at a snail's pace. I noticed a guy in the aisle just a few feet away wearing an ID badge and carrying a clip board. He saw all the customers but didn't acknowledge them in any way, so I assumed he was a rep for one of the paint companies doing inventory or something. After standing there forever, the solo guy behind the counter asked the aisle guy if he could help me. Aisle guy (who apparently is an employee) told the counter guy "sure" then proceeded to mill around and do something to a sign on the wall and eventually walked behind the counter and asked if I needed help (as if he didn't know I had been standing there all day). Aisle guy was no help with colors or swatches and eventually wandered off. I noticed a third guy behind the counter (so this whole time a third employee was also doing something more important than helping customers) so I walked back to the counter and asked him for a swatch book. He mumbled something gruffly, milled around and came back with a swatch book. They have a single small table by the front door where customers can choose colors and go through brochures and swatches from a small display case. This is just a few feet away from the front counter in plain sight. I had brought in some notes and samples for matches. I sat all my stuff on the table along with the swatch book and started doing my thing. I took a small paper swatch a few feet outside the front door to view the color in natural light as is a common practice. When I turned to walk back inside I saw gruff guy snatching the swatch book off the table and he took it back to the counter. There were no customers at the counter, so I have no idea why he was in such a rush to take it back and put it under the counter. At this point, I felt like the employees were actually bothered by the presence of customers and I simply picked up my stuff and drove to another store, where I had a much better experience. There are many places to buy paint. Customer service is what brings people back. read more

Ashley Critelli is an unbelievably helpful and patient Color Adviser at the San Clemente Store in Pico Plaza. She took the colors we wanted for our exterior and did a mock up of those colors on a picture of our home. She prepared 2 different color combinations for us. Then, we found out our HOA does not allow custom colors. Without complaint, Ashley helped us put together all the colors in the 10 different model color schemes. When we narrow it down, she will again make a mock up for us. Ashley is most professional and represents the store well. Thank you!! read more

I have gone into Dunn-Edwards in San Clemente several times in the last couple of weeks to get some samples for redoing the interior of my home. Oscar helped me a couple of times and was hospitable, attentive and accommodating. Today was another example with who turned out to be the manager, Davon Cameron. I purchased the paint but was deciding on finishes and a custom color. Davon was gracious, patient and more than willing to try a couple of things to get my color right. I recently spent many days at the San Juan Capistrano location attempting to match a color paint we had on our walls. First of all Dunn Edwards paint is the best on the market. It goes on smoothly, covers existing colors, and does not fade as we found out when touching up walls with paint first used in 2009! Secondly, the people at this store were so helpful and accommodating. They were almost more interested in assuring my paint color matched exactly than I was!
