Quaint little hotdog stand that serves way more than just hotdogs and hamburgers. The fried seafood baskets are a bit pricey but delicious. The fries were really good. The hotdog was very tasty served in a grilled and buttered bun...yum. If you'd like a drink there are soda machines adjacent to the stand to purchase drinks. It seemed to be the choice of many working locals for lunch. They also were serving Italian dishes like egg plant parm and chicken parm. Stop by and try it you won't be disappointed although if you order seafood you might need to dig a bit deeper into your pockets. read more

We have been going to Dunton's for twenty years. We are from San Diego and each time we go to Maine we always stop at Dunton's for their hot dogs! Something about them that separates them from the others. They are great! We know Gary the owner and he is a hard-working guy who takes pride in his food. Don't listen to all these other jamokes on here...if you come here you must get the double cheeseburger. Gary (owner - always working) has perfected the cheeseburger, unlike idiots at five guys and whatever places all you stupid idiots think have such great cheap burgers. He starts by buttering and toasting your bun so it locks in the juices without the bun getting all soggy. He then grills up two juicy patties each with a slice of cheese. The burgers are so juicy, greasy and delicious. It is simple and perfect, no need for lettuce, tomatoes, mayo, bacon or anything but a little ketchup. Get a side of curly fries to compliment your burger and you (or your wallet) will not be disappointed. read more

Great little shack on the side of the road. Great grilled eats, and lots of personality behind the window. The have two soda machines and an ice cream machine outside on both sides of the shack. As their ad says, their have ice cream 24/7 and free salt and pepper! I had a cheese burger which was good and my sister had a hot dog which she say was phenomenal. I like this joint. Big menu for a small place. Be careful you don't drive by it....it has everything from burgers to lobster rolls which are reasonably priced. I love their cheeseburger basket with fries which are awesome; personally I load the vinegar on them. They have picnic tables set out back that accommodate a fair amount of people. What a gem! We asked one of the locals where they would go to have some lunch and he suggested Duttons! We had an excellent lobster roll (couldn't NOT have lobster, being from the Midwest). Sat at the picnic tables behind the stand. Quick, fast, delicious and reasonably priced lunch. Quite the experience. Would recommend trying this place, it's "where the locals go" and so, well... just "local", not touristy like some of the other places in town. read more

The family has been visiting Boothbay Harbor for 20 years, and the trip is not a success without at least one visit to this iconic roadside joint. I almost always order the fried haddock sandwich, it's amazing as it is very lightly crusted and just falls apart. The kids order the burgers, fried clams and more, all taste great. We go to BBH every summer and never miss hitting Dunton's. Crab and Lobster rolls are usually the best price in town. You'll find plenty of locals picking up food here. I don't know how they can make so many different things in such a little place. You can get all sorts of seafood, chowder, lobster bisque, hamburgers, hot dogs, eggplant parmigian, the list goes on and on. Fast and friendly. Get your soda from the vending machines at the end of the building and sit at one of the tables out back or eat in your car. YUM! read more

We visit Boothbay every summer and Dunton's Doghouse is one of our favorite places ANYWHERE. Excellent food, and reasonable prices. We normally get ours and go back to the motel to dine while looking out at the harbor. Hint: try the haddock fingers and clam rolls. We head for Boothbay (Southport) on Thursday, and we'll be stopping at Gary's at least twice during our stay...............and also get something when we leave for our supper that evening back at home. You really have to try this place. read more

Good stop in Boothbay for a quick summertime bite. I got a few different type dogs to try - all pretty good. Chili is homemade and was pretty good on the dog. All in all, for the price and quickness it was worth it, but not necessarily a MUST HIT on the list if you have a limited time in the area. Nothing bad to say about it though so - enjoy! read more

Drove from Houston TX to Boothbay Harbor Me. just to eat at Dunton's Doghouse! Well not really a vacation in Maine was also the reason but, Dunton's is worth the drive. What a gem of a hot dog stand. Not only the hot dogs but, the rest of his menu is also fantastic! Make a point of ordering the burgers and his home made chili. All his food is made fresh and delicious.
