I think we finally found our local splurge Thai spot. Great menu beyond just the usual items plus great flavors. Yes, a bit pricey, but around these parts, there's an up charge for the good stuff. My husband's Hang Le lamb was particularly good. The meat just fell off the bone! My Khing was also good though not as epic. I'll skip the Kari Puff next time; I tend to like more texture. My husband has a joke that he never needs the menu at a Thai restaurant because he always orders the same thing every time. I'm always looking for the item I haven't tried before, so we work well together. We ordered a grilled pork loin appetizer, pad see ew beef, and pad thai Thai sausage. They have an extensive menu of items claiming to be home cooking specialties, but each one was a solid $10-12 more than the noodle dishes, so I couldn't rationalize branching out. The grilled pork appetizer was just two pieces of pork loin on cabbage with a fish sauce on the side. It was juicy and well prepared, but looked more like a naked entree than a small starter or finger food. I prefer more flavor complexity or something going on, and this wasn't hitting that for me. My husband's pad see ew beef was well made and again bland, but the beef wasn't over cooked or chewy which is a nice surprise. My pad Thai was extremely sweet, to the point that I looked to see if the sausage was glazed in syrup. It was pretty unpleasant, to be honest, and there wasn't nearly enough lime or acid to counter the sweetness. The waitstaff was very nice and cheery, and the space is bright and clean. They only have those ubiquitous metal chairs that cut into your hips if you have hips, so keep it in mind for seating issues. And I would really have liked to try the other options, but $27+ per entree for a casual dining spot isn't tenable. Not bad, but also not great. Durian, a Thai restaurant, was preceded in its location by Red Lotus, also a Thai restaurant. Although pretty expensive, Red Lotus made delicious, crave-worthy food that I and my family really looked forward to. Durian - not so much... Durian's food is a big step down from Red Lotus' food. It doesn't the same vibrancy, it's not as well made, it's considerably less tasty. On the bright side, it's just as expensive... I don't know why I thought that the name would change but the quality of the food would stay the same. Self-delusion, I suppose. The curries - I tried a couple -- were flavorful and pretty good (though, to be clear, not as good as Red Lotus' curries); everything else was a pretty big step below the quality of Red Lotus' food. Durian is not outright bad, but it's such a big disappointment compared to its predecessor, and it's not worth the money. I don't see us getting dinner there again. A real pity. Now we'll have to find some other Thai restaurant to satisfy our fondly remembered, Red Lotus-inspired cravings... read more

I know that everybody talks about Durian like they are the end. All be all of Thai food in the area but honestly-- and I consider myself a Thai food fanatic-- I find Durian's food to be not very well balanced. Two much lime in some dishes, with too little fish sauce to balance things out... not enough salt... not enough heat... nothing is particularly stellar about their cooking in my opinion. It's my first Thai gastronomic experience, it's incredible. The taste of the food is very spicy and delicious. I highly recommend Whole Red Snapper Lad Prig, which is incredible that the salt covered in your fish can be so delicious. The waiter is very affectionate, I appreciate his work. I just wish there was a bit more eggplant in mine but flavor was on point, same with spicy levels. I only had take out, but the interior was clean and very modern. I had previously ordered takeout from their Larchmont location and thought it was good, so I was happily surprised to see that they had a New Rochelle location. We came here for dinner on a weeknight and it was pretty empty however we saw a lot of people coming for takeout orders, the interior is nice with plenty of tables and open space, there are a few parking spots outside in a private lot. The waitress was nice and efficient, answered our questions and made sure we were comfortable throughout. I had the Thai beer and my wife had the Thai iced tea, both were good. For food we ordered the Kari puffs which came with 2 pieces, for entree I had the beef drunken noodles that really hit the spot, my wife had the chicken kratium which is a favorite of hers with a strong garlic flavor with no spice, the food here is excellent and our experience was great, my only downside is that the prices are too high, makes me miss Queens where I didn't have to break the bank for Thai food, well I'm exaggerating but it is a bit pricey, I'll be back here read more

When I saw Durian opened a second location I had to stop by ! I love their drunken noodle, it's not your typical Thai restaurant, they use all fresh ingredients.
