They offer a fantastic lunch special for $20 that includes a main dish, your choice of salad or soup, and freshly baked bread with a dip of your choice--an incredible value. When I first moved to Jersey, this place came highly recommended, and it quickly became a bit of a habit. For the first six months, I was going almost weekly--and for good reason. The chicken kebab is juicy and full of flavor, the shepherd's salad is a delight, and the lentil soup is comforting and delicious. My absolute favorite, though, is the homemade bread with labneh--truly to die for. The restaurant has a lovely ambiance and feels like a special treat every time. This was my first time at Toros and I'm glad I stopped in! The restaurant has a warm, homey and inviting vibe; I particularly liked the lighting and wall art, it made the space feel very authentic. Toros only serves wine, so plan accordingly (they do have a non-alcoholic lemonade on the menu, which my dinner date loved). Our server was friendly and took time to describe each item on the menu. For my meal, I tried the Bamia, which is a traditional, thick Turkish stew with okra and lamb, served with basmati rice. I enjoyed dinner at Toros on a weekday evening. The menu has a wide range of options, and the service was great. For an appetizer, I enjoyed hummus. It tasted fantastic and was well complemented by the warm bread served at the table. Although a selection of wines by the bottle and glass was available, I opted for the mint lemonade, which was super refreshing. For my entree, I had the grilled chicken kebabs, which were served with a tomatoey bulgur and white rice. The chicken was very tender, and the portions were generous. If you are allergic to citrus, I cannot recommend this soup. The portions were good for lunch. I saw several people take leftovers home. Skip this paragraph if you don't need a math breakdown of lunch. The lunch was $18 per person, which made me happy because there was no price on the lunch menu. But there were signs outside. The total was 40.70 for 2 lunch specials because we paid with credit. It was 20.35 total per person lunch, this is the credit card price. This does not include tip. The pre-calculated suggested tips start at 20% and adjusts based on whether you pay cash or credit and is calculated after tax. The service is excellent. This was good food. In my view, a restaurant's bathroom often mirrors its kitchen -- and this lack of upkeep raises concerns. And while the kitchen's execution is assured: plates arrive thoughtfully composed, flavors well-balanced, the ingredients themselves could use a touch more vibrancy. Nothing egregious, but if the kitchen wants to lean into the ethos of freshness it gestures toward, a shift in sourcing could take these dishes from very good to top tier. At under $20, we got to choose a soup or salad, appetizer (hummus was yummy), delish warm bread with butter on the side, main meal (the lamb shish with 2 rice sides was also very good) and eithercoffee, tea or a soft drink. Although Paterson and Clifton area are filled with Turkish restaurants and Middle Eastern Restaurants, this Toros location stands out by having excellent food and a great ambiance. The interior is unique and makes you feel like you're in a fancy restaurant. My favorite items are their Sheppard salad with feta, iskandar (fresh sliced donar kebab with tomato sauce over fried pieces of Turkish bread and a whole lot of yogurt), and manti (Turkish ravioli mixed with yogurt). You'd think that this small place with barely any parking (though you could park next door in the diner parking lot) may not seem like much but once you step in, the decor and atmosphere is perfect for bringing family and friends. As for the main course, I ordered the lamb and doner combination platter and my girlfriend ordered the grilled shrimp kebab. Normally, I'm reluctant to order lamb but I took a chance and WOW, it wasn't gamey but rather, tender and juicy. The doner was plentiful and amazingly enough, I was able to taste the spices in each bite that had me wanting more! If they sold this by the pound, I'd probably buy a good 5 pounds just to eat over the next few days and MAYBE share it with my girlfriend. As for the rice, it's no ordinary rice, it's not plain white rice that one would expect, the rice is flavorful, savory, and it just complements the meat so well. As for the grilled shrimp kebab, one thing I noticed was that the shrimps are HUGE. They're not some skimpy, rubbery, baby shrimps. These were so big it took at least two bites! They're juicy, firm, moist, yet soft. I was so happy that my girlfriend couldn't finish all of them and I could help her hehe. If you see my prior review, I used to frequent Toros often, as I have lived in Clifton for nearly 23 years. We went with a group of friends after an early Devil's game. We arrived at 4:30 and the staff there were less than welcoming. I thought first maybe because we had Devil's jerseys on and sneakers but many of the patrons had sweatpants, sweatshirts and sneakers on. The service was horrendous. We had to ask several times for a second beverage. Staff walked past the table and didn't even look at us. No one ever came to see if our food came out the right way. I hate to say the word discrimination, but why would five Americans in a half filled restaurant be treated this way? We then asked several times for dessert menu and we're completely ignored. We paid in cash. We tipped well and even on the way out my one friend made a comment to the manager about being ignored about asking for dessert and she just shrugged her shoulders as if they couldn't wait for us to leave. It's a shame because most of the food is actually pretty good there except for the vegetable dish. I don't know why they still have that horrendous mush of vegetables and potatoes on their menu. But shame on you Toros for being disrespectful to people who are not from Turkey or from the Middle East, and your wish is my command, you will never see myself or anyone else of my friends or family at your horrible restaurant again. read more

We went for a 7:30pm dinner, party of 5. The good: the ambiance is lovely. The food is very generously portioned - we had a lot to take home. The bad: Cold service and they were overly aggressive in constantly clearing plates. They took bread plates while we were still eating a big shared appetizer and bread (they could have been left for the main meal - there was enough room) and then cleared dinner plates while two guests were still eating - making them feel rushed. They also rushed ordering dessert like they didn't want to serve us dessert - they hardly let us look while standing over us and brought us the check - I had to ask them to add dessert - we were celebrating two birthdays and it didn't feel special at all. The bathroom was very ill-kept too which makes me wonder about the kitchen. We decided to try Toros for our Saturday lunch. We arrived around 15 mins after the opening hours, and were the first group at the restaurant. Walking in, there are many awards and accolades at the entrance, that sets up pretty high expectation for the place. I was mesmerized by the interior of the restaurant, very well decorated, created a perfect Turkish environment within the restaurant. I was surprised to see them offering Lunch Special during the weekend, as most restaurants only do it on weekdays. But, upon request the do hand out the full menu. The full has some special Turkish Dishes, that are not listed in the lunch menu. Lunch special items do come with an appetizer and an entree, with side of soup or salad, plus tea or coffee. All that for only $15.99, really impressive. We tried the several of the dishes, and all were super impressive. Really enjoyed the eggplant appetizer, the salad had a kick of vinegar, lamb was super tender, with tiniest Okra I have ever seen, and the chicken Kabob was also note worth. Their are many servers at the restaurant, but seems to me, tables are not assigned to them. So, it creates confusion, and either we get asked same question multiple times, or at times no one shows up at our table for a long time. We also notice the person working at reception had no interest in guests walking in and leaving, as she was very occupied with her IG on her phone. So, they have some room to improve in their service. I'm very surprised I never wrote a review for this wonderful place as I ordered from there twice if not three times(for some reason I recall another kebab of some type.) There's a reason why I find it difficult to recommend Turkish restaurants in New York and that's because Northern NJ exists whether it be this spot or a few others (as well as my favorite spot having been closed due to Covid.) I've never eaten here directly but back when I was in NJ more, I ordered through various sites though primarily through Ubereats as for some reason; they appear to have a bigger delivery radius for some places. Outside of the Uber advertisement, they have an amazing lunch special for 15.99 consisting of either a lentil soup or shepherd salad, another appetizer, a main dish, and a drink which comes with fresh tasty bread in case you are somehow not full (and also to help with the appetizers.) It also comes with a wet wipe unlike other spots and some other stuff (props to their takeout packaging.) Of the first course, I've only personally tried the Çoban salatası/Shepherd Salad which consists of the following: Chopped cucumbers, tomatoes, tender long green peppers, red onion & parsley tossed with extra virgin olive oil & vinegar. The salad is very fresh and as per the rest of the dishes was large and it makes a good break from the richness of the rest of the meal. I once ordered the Ezogelin/lentil soup for someone else which they liked a lot. Of the appetizers, I've ordered a couple; the yogurtlu ispanak and the soslu patlican. Yoğurtlu ıspanak/Yogurt and spinach- Spinach sautéed with onions and tomato served with yogurt. This is a very tasty mix. I found some places to be a bit heavy-handed with the yogurt but in this case the spinach blends well. Overall I would recommended it especially if you want something a bit richer. Soslu patlıcan/Eggplant with tomato sauce- Fresh eggplant, tomatoes, red peppers, garlic, green onions, tomato & parsley. This is also very tasty as per most other things here. The tomato sauce has a wonderful spice blend. Overall it's a good version. In terms of main dishes, I've ordered the izgara kofte and the sarma. Izgara Köfte/Turkish meatballs- Minced beef & lamb blended with onions, garlic, parsley & our own special spices. As with the other dishes, this had a nice spice blend. The meatballs were very tender and I would recommend it. Sarma/Stuffed cabbage roll-Cabbage leaves stuffed with rice, meat, pepper, onion & herbs with tomato sauce. For some reason the current menu online shows Lahana sarması and it shows smaller cabbage rolls but when I ordered it was two large pieces as can be seen in the photo. Outside of this confusion, it was also quite tasty. As per the eggplant, the tomato sauce had a good flavor and even after being delivered, the cabbage roll kept most of the texture. I preferred the meat but this is also quite good. Overall I really can't find much wrong about this spot. Everyone I know who lives around there and knows the spot loves the place for a good reason. I just wanna say that our server was fantastic, he took the time to explain everything to us, especially since there were a lot of things on the menu were unfamiliar with. I really appreciated that. With our servers suggestion, we got the dip sampler which is not on the menu but they do offer it. It's 6 different dips that you enjoy with their delicious perfectly fresh bread. My favorite was the lebni. It is so so ridiculously good. It's a yogurt dip with lemon and walnuts. Their hummus is exceptional too. Their eggplant dips were great. I was super happy with the sampler. We decided both on getting kabobs. I got chicken and they were perfectly cooked. Crisp and done right on the outside then tender and juicy inside. Paired with that delicious buttery rice. Can't go wrong. My boyfriend got lamb chops and he loved them too. We were so full from the appetizer and entrees but of course we had to try dessert. Again, not on the menu but our server suggested the trio sampler. It had baklava - which was delicious, a wheat pastry with honey and a delicious pudding. All presented on a beautiful plate. I ended the dinner with some Turkish coffee, which I had never tried and it was great. Overall, the place is beautiful. I love this place, I come here at least twice a month, I mostly order and pick up. Today I ordered and for personal reason I didn't leave a tip, which I usually do, even if it's pickup. The girl that got my recipe looked at it and showed it to the guy that was going to bring my food, they were talking in their language. They seem upset and I felt uncomfortable.
