I haven't been here in over 15 years and man did the quality and service go down DRAMATICALLY! This place used to be hopping back in the day and it was wild to see most of the building looks in decay and not updated at all. It said on Yelp they opened at 12noon and I called to check and the person on the phone said they were running behind and will be about 5-10 late opening. That was my first red flag but I said I'll wait. Got inside and there was a worker mopping the floors and ALL of the chairs were still stacked on tables and we ended up waiting 20 additional minutes to get a seat on the small row they opened up to us. As many have stated, the food just isn't up to the standard it once was and I was so disappointed in that. The buffet was practically empty especially the salad bar and the other one that had the string beans, cabbage, and some other dish. Peach cobbler was the only dessert choice. Way overrated. The space felt dirty, and the décor was outdated. The fresh fruit and salad area was really repulsive since it was swarming with gnats, so nobody ate from it. It was soul food at its most basic, nothing to write home to mom about. The cakes were pre-sliced and covered, so they were deemed safe, however they were obviously store-bought. The dressing lacked luster, it was also dry and devoid of additions. The selection was limited, and the peach cobbler was depressing. All in all, I thought the place was too expensive for the awful experience I had to go through. Without a doubt, I would NOT advise. Come on, people, do better!! It's really pitiful that this is what we have to go through in the name of "Soul Food" in our neighborhood. They are utterly exaggerated. When I see the name, I will consider it to mean just as it sounds dirty, unappetizing, undesirable, unpleasant, disgusting, and unclean. Printed my Groupon as instructed on the voucher. Cashier would NOT accept it. So I had to step to the side to find my phone to display my voucher. Then I HAS to pay a $4 processing fee and I was asked to give a tip. So I ended up paying $55.00 to eat soul food. To top it off the station were not even full. There was only one piece of fried chicken, spinach was floating in water and soda machine was down on several sodas lemonade, Dr Pepper. Too much spent at Dusties there are too many other soul food locations to choose from. It's old and out dated for the price you pay at this spot. On November 11, 2023 I attended a Medicare Advantage presentation held at Dusties Southern Style Buffet in Matteson. Dusties has been in the area for some time, and this was my first visit to it. Those involved in the presentation were in a good-sized location of the restaurant on the east side of the building. There are lots of windows and thus good natural lighting too. This part of Dusties may be a good choice for a reception. If interested, I would contact Dusties management directly to check out options. There is a ramp and a few (3) steps to the room that could serve as a meeting room. There is also a large-screen TV that can be utilized for an audio-video presentation, and the sound is fine. I was not there for the food, but it was being readied for the customers after the meeting concluded and it looked pretty good, especially the chicken. read more

Decided to stop by Dusties Southern Buffet today after church because the girls had a taste for soul food (didn't feel like cooking). While we're about to check out, I went back to get some peach cobbler. Glad I did bc I was able to see this, live! I discreetly brought it to two female workers attention. They seemingly didn't believe me nor care bc no one moved until I showed them pictures and this video (you can see a baby roach INSIDE the cake, another baby one near the upside down aluminum pan along w/the large one). Then, I clearly heard lady 2 say "...see, they are getting too comfortable!" (Referring to the roaches ) This same lady 2 & another gentleman proceeded to remove the cakes, ONLY, to the back. Nothing else was moved nor covered... SMH! Lady 1 who I alerted went back to the front to check in guest & tried to hush lady 2 up from finishing her statement about the "roaches are getting comfortable" oh but I heard and saw for myself SMH! I waited for lady 1 at the front desk to see what compensation would be offered e.g. something complimentary, a discount, coupons, apology, a napkin perhaps a plastic fork, SOMETHING! Nothing was done nor said outside of "here's one scale, both of the scales work and no I can't give you any discounts" and proceeded with her phone conversation. I said Oh Ok, I'll leave this here for you then (the food) and proceed to walk away... She then replied "what I was gonna say was you can call corporate and they would probably do something for you". Dustie's Soul Food y'all have lost y'all dog on roach infested minds! What I look like paying for something and THEN calling corporate who "would probably do something for..." me! You call them! And call Orkin too! And handle sanitation and service, better! I could have made a huge scene during this discovery however I didn't. The customer service has gone down terribly so I can see why when we arrived there were so many empty tables. The food isn't of the same quality, several dishes were tasteless, and from the door to the exit the customer service was terrible. The wide back, chunky guy with the dingy black t-shirt that sweeps the floors approached a child who was by himself and harassed him about him fixing his own plate yelling kids don't fix their own plates. I've come here since I was a child and that has never been the case. He then went to another table and started singing songs antagonizing the guests with lyrics he made up about crumbs on the floor. Clearly, it's the only job you could get so stop complaining or find something else. Bringing your misery to work and throwing it off on customers isn't safe. My family and I went there on a Saturday night, the place was dead, I should have known if the place was dead I should have left. The only meat they had on the bar was dried out fried chicken, dried out baked chicken. The fish was ok, but it was cold. The sides did not look edible. I took my cousin here to eat for her birthday. We were so disappointed with the food. Everything was cold and tasteless and nasty to me but that's my opinion. It's like they cooked everything and didn't season it at all. The macaroni and cheese was just macaroni with no cheese at all. I barely ate anything, and I felt so bad that I took my cousin here for her birthday because she did not enjoy her meal either. I went for lunch, and the Buffet barely had any variety. They were giving someone a red 2009 4 door car to a young lady that walked past me cursing. A woman with a ponytail yelled at employees who said they weren't on the clock yet. A line of customers began to form as we waited for the pictures be taken of the girl and her new car. I was happy for her but disappointed in my food. The dressing was mushy and too salty. The sweet potatoes weren't sweet and there wasn't any juice in the bowl. The greens were good though. The food isn't good like it used to be and that lady was very rude not only to her staff but to the customers as well. read more

Its been awhile between visits, but I really enjoyed my return. The fish, chicken and barbecue beef was excellent. The sides did not disappoint. I'm a big spaghetti eater and theirs passed my taste test. The cornbread was ok. I wish they served rolls or biscuit, but I survived. Dusties lived up to and met my expectations.. I joined my boyfriends family for an early afternoon meal on Thanksgiving. After reading reviews prior to going, I see why this place has such a mixture of reviews. I don't frequent buffets very often and this place is a perfect example of why they aren't my go to. I'll list the positives and negatives below. Positives: -A large selection of food that includes items such as: deviled eggs, fried chicken, spinach, mac and cheese, catfish nuggets, greens, mashed potatoes. -Enough seating for large groups of people. -Prices seem similar to most other casual buffets. -The food in the buffet area was always kept full. -They had a bigger salad bar then I would have expected. There were over 25 items in that section alone. -Open on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Negatives: -Some food such as the fried chicken was lukewarm. -Some dishware was dirty and sticky. I had to constantly inspect everything I picked up. -Most items had enough salt, but not enough of other types of seasonings. Do NOT EVER COME TO THIS ESTABLISHMENT. My family and I came here after I purchased a Groupon voucher for a two person all you can eat. Total was 50.14 which was no problem. The problem came in when the owner, Keith Lewis, told my husband and I that we cannot use the voucher on the same day that we purchased it. It seemed very off because I've never heard or read anything like that before. Since we were there we decided to stay and pay their price of 63.76 for two adults. We looked up the voucher again and seen there was no such policy. When asking the owner for a refund and telling him and one of his employees, Tay, about the policy not being there, he states that it was "supposed to be in there" and I would have to get a refund from Groupon. My husband and I explained to the owner that it cannot be our fault for something that the merchant aka the owner of Dusties should be monitoring and is responsible for, to which he had no reply. The employee Tay, sides with the owner (of course) and tells us we ate there, trying to imply because we ate that we cannot get our money back, WRONG. So, basically he lied about being able to use the voucher and double charged us. We did not leave and demanded money back, in which they decided to call the police. When the police arrived my husband and I told him what happened and my husband and the officer stepped away to talk. During their conversation, the owner THEN decides to refund me my money back. This was a straight up scam and it was done to many people before because the owner stated that he tells that to everyone as far as them not being able to use the Groupon voucher the same day it was purchased, which is a LIE because he ended up wanted me to pull up the voucher so that it can be redeemed after he refunded me my money. This place only had good greens, mac n cheese, banana pudding and smothered chicken. The fried chicken was hard as if they put out leftovers and the cornbread. Visited this place for the first time 1/1/2019. The price for buffet was around $17. For this amount, I was greeted with a wide variety of menu choices, many of which were traditional for New Years. Since I was craving greens, I went to the sides section to grab a spoonful. As I was grabbing a spoonful, I realized the wrapper that keeps the uncooked greens in tact in the grocery store were cooked into the greens. After arriving back to the table, my cousin who also dinned in, looked into her sprite and realized she had floating roach. She immediately let a manager know, and they refunded her money.
