I haven't been here in over 15 years and man did the quality and service go down DRAMATICALLY! This place used to be hopping back in the day and it was wild to see most of the building looks in decay and not updated at all. It said on Yelp they opened at 12noon and I called to check and the person on the phone said they were running behind and will be about 5-10 late opening. That was my first red flag but I said I'll wait. Got inside and there was a worker mopping the floors and ALL of the chairs were still stacked on tables and we ended up waiting 20 additional minutes to get a seat on the small row they opened up to us. As many have stated, the food just isn't up to the standard it once was and I was so disappointed in that. The buffet was practically empty especially the salad bar and the other one that had the string beans, cabbage, and some other dish. Peach cobbler was the only dessert choice. I'm not sure I'll return sad to say.

Printed my Groupon as instructed on the voucher. Cashier would NOT accept it. So I had to step to the side to find my phone to display my voucher. Then I HAS to pay a $4 processing fee and I was asked to give a tip. So I ended up paying $55.00 to eat soul food. To top it off the station were not even full. There was only one piece of fried chicken, spinach was floating in water and soda machine was down on several sodas lemonade, Dr Pepper. Too much spent at Dusties there are too many other soul food locations to choose from. It's old and out dated for the price you pay at this spot. Chairs were stacked on top of the tables so we were all bunched up to close.

Decided to stop by Dusties Southern Buffet today after church because the girls had a taste for soul food (didn't feel like cooking). While we're about to check out, I went back to get some peach cobbler. Glad I did bc I was able to see this, live! I discreetly brought it to two female workers attention. They seemingly didn't believe me nor care bc no one moved until I showed them pictures and this video (you can see a baby roach INSIDE the cake, another baby one near the upside down aluminum pan along w/the large one). Then, I clearly heard lady 2 say "...see, they are getting too comfortable!" (Referring to the roaches ) This same lady 2 & another gentleman proceeded to remove the cakes, ONLY, to the back. Nothing else was moved nor covered... SMH! Lady 1 who I alerted went back to the front to check in guest & tried to hush lady 2 up from finishing her statement about the "roaches are getting comfortable" oh but I heard and saw for myself SMH! I waited for lady 1 at the front desk to see what compensation would be offered e.g. something complimentary, a discount, coupons, apology, a napkin perhaps a plastic fork, SOMETHING! Nothing was done nor said outside of "here's one scale, both of the scales work and no I can't give you any discounts" and proceeded with her phone conversation. I said Oh Ok, I'll leave this here for you then (the food) and proceed to walk away... She then replied "what I was gonna say was you can call corporate and they would probably do something for you". Dustie's Soul Food y'all have lost y'all dog on roach infested minds! What I look like paying for something and THEN calling corporate who "would probably do something for..." me! You call them! And call Orkin too! And handle sanitation and service, better! I could have made a huge scene during this discovery however I didn't. Y'all clearly DONT exterminate, CLEARLY this is a norm for this FOOD establishment and CLEARLY don't care about folks health!!! They kept on w/businesses as usual as if NOTHING was happening! Folks, be aware of this place! The longevity in business means nothing especially with several code violations under your belt! #DustiesSoulFood #MattesonIllinois #ShareThisPost #Share for awareness Dusties Southern Style Buffet 4012 Lincoln Highway Matteson IL 60443

Dry, Tasteless, Unseasoned Fried Turkey courtesy of Dustie's Buffet!

Let's start with a 0 rating! I ordered the most tasteless, unseasoned, dry fried turkey I have ever regretted ordering...EVER! Because there is a no refund policy, I am posting my experience to advise other potential culinary victims.

My last visit was when they were still on Old Western Ave in Blue Island--way overdue for a return. Let's start with the food--absolutely delicious. The three of us kicked things off with the Cast Iron Cornbread, and trust me, don't skip it. Perfectly done and a great start to the meal. For mains, we went with the Pitmaster's N'awlins Gumbo, Hickory Buttered BBQ Shrimp, and Burnt Ends. Every dish was spot on--flavorful, well-executed, and clearly made with care. The restaurant itself is pristine--clean, polished, and classy without feeling stuffy. Service was just as strong. Our server, Nick, was attentive, knowledgeable, and made the whole experience smooth and enjoyable. Safe to say, it will NOT be another 30 years before my next visit. Highly recommend.

My coworkers and I would go to the old location from time to time. Their new location opened in 2019, but this is the first time that I got to check it out. The restaurant is gorgeous! One thing that I noticed was all staff that I encountered generally looked happy. The host was super friendly and offered vegan or gluten free menus if we needed. The person that seated us also was running food and ensuring tables were kept clean. Since it had been so long since I dined here, the menu appeared smaller. I appreciated that our server Adam explained some of his favorites. The cocktail that I got was excellent. The cornbread appetizer was huge. I went with the gumbo and it was full of meat pieces. It was really flavorful. Adam was super friendly and made us feel welcome. Parking lot is tight, but they also offer valet. I highly recommend this spot if you are looking for some Louisiana style cusine.

The chicken was delicious and the pancakes were out of this world. Similar to some of the other comments, it would be nice to first come in, sit down, get relax then have someone take your order when dining in. However you place your order at the front door and then can sit down. The customer service lacked tremendously from the youthful stuff(late teens/very early 20's) But I will say the most underwhelming thing about this experience was the building. Inside & out it was very primitive & just flat out old. I know they just moved from another location and looking to get their foot in the door. But hopefully a renovation is in the plans. The inside is a bit of an eye soar. Needless to say, I would come back if in the area because of the food. But I wouldn't go out of my way patronize them.

This place has gone through a number of makeovers over the years but it is decidedly a sports bar vibe where you enter the space and traditional restaurant in the back area. Overall a very casual and lively vibe. We waited about 15 minutes with a packed house and were seated in the restaurant portion in a very spacious booth. Our server was prompt, courteous, pleasant, and efficient--attentive but not overly so. The food was excellent with very ample portions at reasonable pricing with many options under $20. I will say they could skip the bread basket before your meal comes out and just put it into giving you a side with the sandwiches versus charging you $2 for each side added. That being said the food came out promptly, was warm, and very satisfying. Hopefully Chuck's keeps value for customers' hard earned buck in mind and they will continue to do well.

They also feature an extensive craft beer selection. I went with the seasonal Abita Bad Mother Shucker Stout, which was a fun nod to Mardi Gras and a solid stout choice for the occasion. For my entrée, I ordered the Mardi Gras Platter ($32.99). It included: * Choice of soup (I chose the seafood chowder) * Shrimp Creole * Jambalaya * Chicken Étouffée * Crawfish & Shrimp Monica * Broccoli The restaurant was busy, which is understandable for Fat Tuesday, but our food took quite a while to arrive. The soup was delivered at the same time as the platter. In my opinion, the soup should have come out first. Ironically, the seafood chowder ended up being the highlight of the meal--rich, flavorful, and well-balanced. Unfortunately, by the time I finished the soup and moved on to the platter, most of it was only room temperature. The items were layered and grouped together in a way that made it unclear what paired with what. The chicken was noticeably overcooked and lacked depth of flavor. It tasted as though Cajun seasoning had simply been sprinkled on top rather than developed into the dish. Overall, the platter lacked the bold, authentic Cajun flavor profile I was expecting. The Crawfish & Shrimp Monica was advertised as coming in a bowl but was served in what amounted to a cup-sized portion. The menu description listed Cajun Alfredo sauce, crawfish, crab, blackened shrimp, pasta, Parmesan cheese, and broccoli. After mixing in the Parmesan, I searched for the seafood components and found none--no visible crab, crawfish, or blackened shrimp in the pasta. I mentioned this to the bartender, who said they would bring some out to add in. A few minutes later, three Cajun shrimp were delivered. There was still no crab or crawfish. While the Alfredo sauce and pasta themselves were very good, the absence of the advertised proteins significantly hurt the dish. Had I ordered the Crawfish & Shrimp Monica on its own for $24.99 and received the same portion and lack of seafood, I would have been extremely disappointed. Overall, while the concept and menu sounded promising for Mardi Gras, the execution--especially at that price point--left a lot to be desired.

When we arrived, there was no one else waiting and I'd guess that only 75% of the tables had customers. Couldn't have been more wrong in our decision as we waited for over an hour post ordering before we actually received our meal. This is the longest we have waited for breakfast... EVER. Anyone with kids knows having kids sit still and wait with minimal sources of entertainment is hard enough, then add hunger to the equation and it's a recipe for disaster. What could have made our experience better? 1 - Be transparent about your delays upfront -- Empower your diners to make a decision around whether they'd want to wait or not given how busy you are. Don't continue to seat customers when your kitchen is severely behind and hope diners don't notice. 2 - A small gesture goes a long way -- It would have been nice for SC to offer a couple of biscuits given the excessive wait. 3 - Don't add insult to injury... by bringing butter and ketchup 30+ minutes before the meal arrives. It added to the frustration that even my 7yo remarked "what are we going to do with butter, we have no food". They offered more water even when all our water cups were clearly full. Don't really understand how more water would make us less hungry? Looking at another recent 1-star review, I can see the same pattern as our experience. This restaurant clearly doesn't fail gracefully on busy days... and they don't seem to care either. At the conclusion of our meal, we didn't even get the typical "how was your meal" question from anyone. I guess they already knew.
