My favorite Dutch Bros location ever. I got to know some of the employees because of how often I would go when I use to go to college in Chico. Fast and friendly service and even after summer break people recognize you. I always order one thing which is a Dino Egg Rebel most of the staff always remembers without me asking. I usually love dutch bros and they never disappoint but for some reason they asked me about 3 times each person who helped me what i wanted and i asked for my drink extra sweet and repeated myself to each person! Lol i get my drink and its black LOL. Like i wanted to go back and have them try it because it's obviously not extra sweet even though I repeated myself 3 times to EACH worker. I go to this one often but lately I've been a little disappointed with what I'm given. I dont like how all of the flavor is at the bottom right when you order the drink and it makes me feel sick. There's just way too much sugar in it. Today I was also handed a cup that was too full and it spilt all over my work clothes..awesome. Also, their drive thru is too small with the crowd they get so it's dangerous having cars stop in the middle of a busy street just to fit into the drive thru. I friggin love hittin the bros! I love going to sit-down, hang-out coffee shops and sponge their wifi, but sometimes I just want to grab some coffee because I am too lazy to fire up the 500 dollar espresso maker sitting on my counter. One thing that other reviewers have failed to mention is price. I usually drink straight espresso, and 4 shots at the bros runs me $1.50, whereas the same 4 shots at starbux are at least a dollar more, maybe even more than that--I have stopped going there since I discovered the Bros! I also like all the different candy-bar themed drinks. And if I am in the mood for that sort of thing, I get a kahlua kicker. And I also love the fact that they have a stamp card, so after ten of my quads I can get any free drink I want. I know other places do that, but still. And any time I am out of Chico and my drink order, that would come to under five bucks at the bros, is like 8 bucks or more, I thank my lucky stars for the Bros! read more

To be honest, this is more comparing and contrasting the four Dutch Bros. and the two Java Detours in Chico than it is a review of any one place. I am a semi-regular to regular at all six spots and will be posting this in the reviews for the site from each that I frequent most often. As I think about the two chains it does seem like a no-brainer to like Java Detour a little better. They both have very tasty drinks but, in general, JD has better prices and a larger variety of drink options. The drink option comment is related to what you can actually see on the sign/menu. DB does have a "secret" menu that has some very good drinks but you would never know that unless someone told you about and it can be hard to remember the name of a particular drink you might have had when you try to order it again a couple of weeks later. Java Detour also has a much better variety of food. They have quite a few more sweet choices than Dutch Bros and they carry savory foods which DB does not have at all. That being said, the best single food from either place is Dutch Bros' lemon bread they get from Lovely Layers in Chico. It is absolutely fantastic. So, like I said, it seems like a no-brainer to prefer Java Detour. However, Dutch Bros also has its advantages. There are a couple of basic ones. Their four locations are conveniently spread around town so there is always one close by. That is not the case for Java Detour. Also, three of the four DBs are open 24 hours while the other is open until midnight. The JDs tend to close around 8pm and are often not open when I want a coffee or sweet drink. Another plus for DB is their atmosphere. A trip through their drive-thru is like a three minute party that brightens up a hum drum work day. Invariably, there is good music playing at an enjoyable volume and the baristas seem to be having a good time and it feels like they are generally happy to see you. Last, but definitely not least important, is customer service. For the most part Java Detour baristas are professionally warm and friendly. They say "How are you?", make your order quickly and give a sincere thank you and have a good day before you drive away. This category should be an advantage for Dutch Bros but their desire to be friendly and fun turn it into a negative. Their aforementioned good music with an enjoyable volume is, unfortunately, not a good business volume. They often cannot hear what I say and I have to repeat it. Other times, they think they hear what I said but I end up with the wrong order. I do not want to make this sound like that is a a frequent happening, it is not, but it has happened more than a few times. Also, while I believe their friendliness is genuine they seem to have programmed conversation starters such as "What do you do for a living?". It is a legitimate question and there is nothing wrong with it until the same person has asked you the question four times over the course of a month. It makes the inquiry seem a bit disingenuous. Look, I like both businesses and frequent each of them hundreds of times a year but I have to give the edge to Java Detour. They get five stars compared to four stars for Dutch Bros. read more

They are very flexible with what they can make, generous with stamp cards, and their blended coffee drinks are packed with flavor. The staff isn't only friendly but also fun. Gotta give a shoutout to the employees working this past monday evening. I was moving up to Mt. Shasta that night and had just said goodbye to my family so was holding back tears as I went through the line. They asked me what I was up to and if I was moving because my car was all packed and I said yes which made me start crying again. Two of them noticed I was upset and said some kind words and even offered me a free stamp card! This was my first time at this location since they switched it to two lanes merging to one window. I used to get coffee here frequently before that and never had an issue, but it's been years since my last visit. I never go because the line is always atrocious when I drive past, but I had a free birthday drink and this location is closest to my house. First of all, the order they brought drinks out in was all wrong. I got my drink before two cars in front of me, so I had to sit in line and wait for them to get their drinks so I could get out. Second, I ordered a Cocomo and they gave me the wrong drink, unless they drastically changed the flavor in the past couple years. I guess it makes sense that it was the wrong order because, like I said, I was brought my drink before the cars in front of me. Whatever they gave me did not taste that great either. I wish I had tasted it while sitting in line waiting to leave, so I could have stopped at the window to get the right one. Lesson learned. I'm glad it was a free one. read more

Only been here once after going to the races... It was late at night, around 11:00... We drove up and searched the menu.... I got some sort of mocha freeze.. I asked the kid what kinda milk is in it, and he said whole milk.. i asked for soy... his response was "really? thats means i have to make the mix all over and its already made..." I kind of laughed , and told him "alright, but my boyfriend won't be too happy later, since I'm lactose intolerant" LOL! I drank the dang WHOLE milk mocha thing anyways.. It was DELICIOUS! But my boyfriend wasn't too happy with me during that two hour drive back home HAHA! My favorite coffee place in California! I love Dutch Bros! A few years ago, our power went out for 6 days and we went to DB to get some coffee, the guy working asked how we were doing and we told him about our power. He didn't let us pay for our coffee. Then some months later, I was sick and could barely talk and a different guy didn't let me pay for that coffee either. The staff is amazing and the coffee is incredible. Also, you can mix and match all the flavors and see what you like best. I'm going back to Chico for a friend's wedding next year and honestly, I'm more excited about the coffee. I am addicting to Dutch Bros and I am not kidding. I have it everyday, even when I have already coffee. I get the medium iced kicker except during the winter when I get the hot kicker. The people there are always really friendly. I love going on stamp special days. Only other drinks I have tried are the peach green tea and white chocolate mocha, all iced, but the kicker is my thing. I know it probably has a lot of sugar and is not healthy at all but it is just soo good. read more

Always fast, always tasty, always friendly. Whether it's the wee morning hours of 5:30am or lunch rush Dutch Bros on park is always on top of getting their team out the cars to get our orders in and processed so all we do is drive up to the window and drive off with our drink. And no matter how busy they are, I'm always greeted with a smile and light convo of how my day is going and they care to listen!! There are a few newbies but over time I'm sure they will do great!! Although the wait was semi long the girls working came out to take my order so that it is ready for me when i got up to the window.
