My boyfriend and I walked in around 9 am and I ordered a large Americano with a shot of cream, 10 sugars, and (per the Barista working's suggestion) FIVE ice cubes which I explained that was "so I (could) drink it right away." He requested ice cream, which I informed him they did not have while having a moderate laugh- the Barista and I then both suggested a Dutch Freeze. I ordered for him at that point, asking for a 16 oz with whipped cream and caramel. I will note that while they didn't completely ignore me: I was disappointed he didn't get a dome or bubble lid so as to allow for whipped cream on, in my opinion, a proper chilled espresso beverage. They added a layer of whipped cream to the granita, which for the price I feel simply would've been better for his first Dutch Bros experience if it had been with caramel as I requested--but perhaps I should've just ordered him a larger size. The drinks were decent. I did a little bit of crafting (cutting bits out of an old bicycle tube tire for fringe on a leather jacket I salvaged that I'm embellishing and planning on selling on Etsy)--which they may raise an eyebrow about having to sweep up the bits on the ground, barely noticeable actually-- and my boyfriend was running errands in the neighborhood--he left his drink on the edge of the patio unfinished: idk. Perhaps he got brain freeze from gulping down the majority of it too quickly. I was happy to finish it for him. One female working with blonde hair nicely told me I couldn't smoke on the patio. I teased her, "Even with no one around?" (I smoke. Therefore...I smoke!) She pointed to a propane tank line. "Oh! Well that makes sense." I hopped over the fence on the patio to the wheelchair ramp. I'm always breaking the rules. Hopefully they post signs alerting parents as to not let their children play near the propane line, my God! Imagine! Kidding? I THINK so....oh! Same barista was super sweet when I asked if I could leave my suitcase on the patio behind the Dutch Bros sign visible to Burnside Street while I walked up to Walgreens real quick to pick up a prescription. She kindly agreed to keep an eye on it for me. Overall a beautiful time and great coffee! One last detail though I will say I am disappointed to hear that they will no longer be giving out free water to people who are thirsty. I was told that yes, I could have one since "I made a purchase earlier" (they weren't IN on my Walgreens excursion: that or perhaps they were actually just being extremely rude or were completely unaware that only an hour tops had passed since we spent $10-- I'll just chalk it up to the fact that I sadly have this old-fashioned idea in my head about artists being commonplace at coffee shops. I think due to the crazy stigma going on preventing any individual from transporting anything above a prettily-packaged PURCHASE lest others think they are 'on the streets'--they probably presumed I was homeless! Who knows. I know I am totally done with this review. I've missed my stop. read more

Dutch Bros has won me over big time. I wasn't a everyday Starbucks drinker but would have it here and there, but Dutch Bros is good. I love the selection they have on drink but more on the fact that they have protein options. Not only that if you have a dog at home that wait anxiously to see you come home after work. Well Dutch Bros has them covered with a pup cup that has a treat in it. The music selection is good and not too loud where they can't hear your order and I never see trash outside so they keep their area clean which is a plus. We have 2 young adults who experience special needs in our household and we are able to send them up to the stand alone to order. Elsewhere, I would have hesitation. No judgement, and not treated any differently based on their abilities. We are definitely treated like family here. Oh yeah, I remember this place...in Phoenix. This is a chain? Of course it's a chain since there are over three hundred locations, but I had never heard of it because they're not in San Francisco, just the outskirts of the Bay Area in places like Fairfield and Oakley. It was started by two brothers who pushed a coffee cart around in Grants Pass, Oregon, and you can see their franchises from a fair distance because they have this strangely fluorescent blue glow when it turns dark (photo: http://bit.ly/2oqAG92). I noticed them near the hotel that Jamie W. and I were staying at in Portland. It's not Blue Bottle. It's Electric Blue Bottle. It was open late (11AM), which was why we walked over at 10:30 to wet our whistles. They appeared to be closing shop, so we tried to order quickly. Blinded by the saturated colors on the menu, I noticed coffee was just one of the things they served. If you LOVE sugar, and you are under 21 (or so) with a strong metabolism, this is must try. Important note: all 3 of the criteria MUST be met or you will regret it. If you're like me, that LOVES sugar but most definitely is not around 21 years old or so, and does not have a strong metabolism, (or any, at this point in my life) you will need to avoid this place at all cost, if you don't want to die of a sugar coma-- and that's without being afflicted with diabetes (yet). The place is very hip, average music, and lots of teenager-looking young people. Makes sense. The dealer/cashier/drink-makers are also very young, but very nice. (Actually, I do think the younger people are nicer than the boomers these days) I got a blended mocha, with a single pump of vanilla, which was really good. It tastes like ice cream, when I just got it. It was really sweet but still pleasant. After the ice has melted, there was still half a cup, and I took a sip. It became so sweet that I stopped mid-sip and just threw the rest. Why? Because I felt my blood sugar rising inside my body, and felt my soul was about to say goodbye. I was sure that if I continued drinking, it's gonna be all over, and I was about to be free from my mortal coils, coward that I am, I stopped drinking, and I think my throwing away the drink was a reflex, of my ape brain trying to stay alive, too bad my mind kicked in. This has to be the BEST Dutch Bros I've ever walked into. It's not your typical California drive-thru, but actually a spacious coffee shop with plenty of seating, lamps for studying, and outlets for charging. There is also an outdoor area with a cozy fire pit and a bike-thru/walk-thru window. What really makes this Dutch Bros the best is the friendliest employees I've ever encountered. Ezra and Jacob are the nicest, friendliest baristas on the planet. They are the epitome of excellent customer service...and they make excellent drinks! I ordered a vanilla latte and it was delicious! Made perfectly! We hung out for a short while inside the coffee shop and later went outside. Seeing customers outside, Ezra came out and turned on the fire pit for us! So nice! For the longest time I was a "Bux Head" (Starbucks drinker) but after the 2008 recession and I lost all of my coffee assets, I had to find somewhere that was more agreeable to my wallet. Thank good ess I found Dutch Bros., the West Burnside location. The "broistas" (gender neutral) are all extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and take great care of their customers. Ive been coming for over a year now and haven't ever had a bad experience. The vibe in here is a bit more young than Id prefer, LOTS of highschool students talking about prom and gossipping about boys/girls. The music at times can be awful, and there are so many flavors for the coffees and freezes that it may take some time to figure out your drink but, suffice to say I love this place a latte!
