Stopped by for the Apple Dumpling and it lived up to the hype. It has a sit down side to it, so we ordered it for there. The portion is large and we got whipped cream on top.
Came here for breakfast on a Saturday morning. Thankfully I didn't have to wait too long to be seated as the place was about 3/4 full. Ordered a mixture of pancakes, an omelette and home fries with a side of bacon and cheese wizz. Massive servings - all very delicious. Service was very friendly too. Good place to try out for breakfast on an empty stomach!

We'll definitely visit again!

We got there just after 9am on a Friday and were able to snag two seats at the counter. The service was quick and the food was great! I just got eggs and toast but it was all fresh and delicious. The real star was the homemade jam and freshly squeezed OJ. It's loud and chaotic in the market but that's part of the whole vibe!
It's simple. I last reviewed them 12 years ago. I've been back more than once since then. And nothing has changed. The consistency and simplicity of this place is something to be proud of. In a market where all sorts of food is available, it's equally as special to sit here and just get a hot turkey sandwich smothered in gravy with mashed potatoes. Because the mashed potatoes will be the best you've ever had. The turkey will be fresh off the bone. The whole meal will feel as comforting as a warm blanket on a winter night. It's one of the few places where I consider the prices to still be reasonable for what you get. There's nothing like a good Amish meal. Sometimes I'd rather get this than a fancy small plate bougie meal.

It cost $5.99. It was just OK. It was an amazing. I felt like it was a little bit doughy and not fresh at all when I had it maybe I went on a bad day. Our family did enjoy their breakfast pancakes etc but we wouldnt recommend the apple dumpling. Staff was great!
My go-to's are the oatmeal (can request brown sugar, butter, milk, blueberries), hash browns (can request them to add onions, peppers, and even crispy), and their BEC sandwiches. They definitely put a lot in one sandwich, so the sandwich alone can do the trick! Their pancakes are huge and taste good. Service is quick and they are always the nicest people to interact with. The ambiance is the market lol, and they have a diner service for people to sit at the counter and order fresh food. It's a very popular spot, so prepare to wait in line.

At the time of me writing this, I was in town for the "Battle of the Legends" football game between NSU and DSU and decided to stop by the Dutch Eating Place at Reading Terminal before the festivities. I had a strong craving for pancakes, and this spot absolutely delivered. I ordered the blueberry short stack, and while there wasn't anything particularly fancy or over the top about it, it hit the spot perfectly. The pancakes were fluffy, the blueberries were fresh, and everything tasted delicious. At $8.75, the price was right and the portion was just what I needed before game day. If you're looking for something simple, tasty, and satisfying, I definitely would recommend the Dutch Eating Company.

Nice diner style spot within Reading terminal market great for breakfast and lunch. Everyone there is quick to help take your order and make you feel at home. You can watch them make everything in the kitchen right from scratch. Prices are great as well as nice portion size. Omelet was a good size perfect for a hearty breakfast. Big pieces of sausage and nice melted cheese made it great on a cold morning. The toast was toasted perfectly and had lots of butter already slathered in between. Home fries also fried up nicely. I sat down at this diner style restaurant inside Reading Terminal and received service immediately. I had a bacon and cheese omelet and a cup of grits. The portion sizes were very generous. My omelet was great. The bacon was crispy and plentiful. The grits were grits. They have a special house strawberry jam that sits on the table. It's delicious. But be warned though. Use in small quantities. I think it's 90% sugar. I tried a few eateries in The Terminal during my few days in the area. This is the only one I highly recommend.
We don't usually eat breakfast, but an early dinner the night before and a late flight the morning of, and the desire to have a really good breakfast at the Reading Terminal Market, led us to this place. We got there right after they opened and sat at the counter. The staff is very friendly and the food was amazing. They put a substantial amount of blueberries in the pancakes, and the turkey bacon was actually very good. Almost like a country ham, instead of bacon from a bird. My chipped beef over home fries was amazing. The gravy was creamy and flavorful and the potatoes were perfectly cooked and had enough pieces with crispy edges to elevate the whole dish. I can't recommend this place enough. Everything that the ladies brought out looked so delicious. I didn't try the apple dumplings, so I'm a little disappointed in that because I'm 100% certain it would have been amazing. read more

Apple dumpling is exactly how it is. The filling a a whole peeled apple with a lump of brown sugar/cinnamon in the middle. Really nice outer crust. Not too sweet topped with whipped cream. I notice they warm them up in a microwave with the plastic container. A note if you want them to be warmed up. Personally, I do not think it is a good idea of using a microwave to warm any thing in in a proper resturant, so 1 star deducted. Otherwise, great friendly people working there. A nice girl offered to take us a picture! read more
A wonderful family-run business, and we had a very sweet, helpful pair of sisters waiting on us. Great personalized recommendations and prompt service with a sincere smile. The Western Omelette was big, and stuffed with all the expected fillings. Maybe too much filling. The Bacon Jam Sandwich was.. well.. one of the best breakfast sandwiches I've ever had. Probably one of the best sandwiches period. Just the right amount of crispy, lean, thick, flavorful bacon. Fresh bright yellow local farm eggs and cheeses smoothing out the texture and flavor. Jam somehow magically infused into it all giving a touch of sweetness.. but not too much. All served on fresh, perfectly toasted rye bread. The daily special juice was even right up my alley- fresh ginger, orange, turmeric, I don't know what else.. but it was tasty, refreshing, and a healthy feeling waker-upper. All this, and they are most known for the Apple Dumplings. I was a bit skeptical after years of "great" apple pies and turnovers that seem to have gelatin as their top ingredient. and granular sugar on top (why would anybody do that to a good fruit pie?!). Well.. I was pleasantly surprised! It was legit apple in a flakey crust with tasty whipped cream. I can't say there wasn't thickener or other fruit pie assistants in there, but it had a pure texture and flavor to me! We scraped all of our little plates very clean. Highly recommended! read more

I decided to get something sweet and tried the warm apple dumpling. Staff at the register was very friendly. She offered whipped or heavy cream to top off the dumpling. The dumpling was covered in a cinnamon apple sauce. The crust was flaky and filled with a good amount of sliced apples. It was warm, sweet and hit the spot. Next time I'm in the Philly area then I will come back and try their breakfast omelettes or apple cinnamon french toast. Prices looked reasonable. read more

Dined in for breakfast at 8:15 AM on 3/13. The place was busy. You just pick a seat and they will serve you. Luckily, we were able to find 2 seats next to people. Location: Inside of Reading Terminal Market. Pretty cool place with a lot of restaurants and markets. We ordered the Western omelette, Loaded Homefries, and the classic egg sandwich. It comes with a lot of food, so prepare your stomachs! Western omelette - 4/5, pretty standard for an omelette. Good ratio of vegetables, meat and cheese. I liked the apple raisin bread on the side with the butter. Loaded homefries - 4/5, tasty! But I wish it was actual fries. Everything just kind of mixed together. It is heavy for a breakfast side. Overall, for the price this place ain't bad for your standard breakfast. Next time I'll have to try their desserts and drinks. read more

I had the chicken salad sandwich with fries and an iced. Son had the turkey sandwich with the chips. We also shared the cheese curds. My dad for the DEB burger and we finished with the apple dumpling. The chicken salad was good. I don't like a lot of pickles and vegetables and such in my chicken salad and this didn't seem to have any. When my plate came I was super excited because the fries were definitely fresh cut however they weren't very crispy. I bet a soak first would help crisp them up. The cheeee curds were great. I'm pretty hesitant to order cheese curds as some places don't do it right. But these were tasty. Everyone enjoyed their entrees. The burgers fell apart and ended up having to be eaten with a fork and oir sandwiches were pretty loaded. The apple dumpling is a whole apple inside. We got 2 orders for 4 of us and 1 would have been sufficient for the 4 of us so keep that in mind. The service was friendly and it was overall a great experience that I would recommend read more

We stopped for brunch and this place did not disappoint. It was pretty busy when we arrived, but the staff did a great job keeping things moving and getting people in and out quickly, so our wait was short. The atmosphere was lively and the service was great even with the crowd. Definitely a solid spot for brunch if you're looking for great food. read more

Every intermittent faster knows the utter disappointment of waiting 20 hours to eat only to break your fast with something unworthy. Breakfast at Dutch Eating Place, located inside Reading Terminal Market, was that for me. We saddled up to the only available counter seats. I had no reason to doubt we'd have a decent meal between glowing Yelp reviews & a packed house. I don't know the up charge but I added cheese to my Veggie Omelet ($9.50), filled with tomatoes, peppers, & fried onions; chose rye toast; & upgraded to home fries (+$2.99.) Everything was extremely bland & unappetizing. The onions were watery & toast was overly buttered. I pushed my food around & left having only taken a couple bites. Probably theee worst breakfast I've had in a long time. My companion ordered French Toast ($7.25) & offered me a bite. How do you eff up French toast? Dutch Eating Place managed to do it with too much cinnamon, an eggy batter, & gloopy syrup. Nice server, inedible food. read more

The servings are massive. The turkey "sandwich platter" was a sandwich in name only. Overflowing with turkey and smothered in gravy you have no choice but to use a fork. Guy next to me had the sloppy Joe - again impossible to pick up. So one of the best food deals I had during my trip. And it was excellent. read more

I love this place! Third or fourth time here while visiting Philly. You just can't get a better meal for the money. What a bargain. The food is fresh and the service is great! We had the creamed chip beef. I never had it that good. Definitely not out of a jar!! . The beef wasn't overly salted and tasted really fresh. The strawberry jam tastes exactly what grandma used to make fresh from her garden. So delicious. I think I ate a third of the jar...couldn't stop. The seating is first come first serve and if there's a wait, it usually goes fast. Well worth it. It was clean and servers were very efficient. I love the buzz of all the businesses around. It's a busy market and fun to experience. I will be back for sure! read more
There are a lot of great dining options in Reading Terminal but I always make a point of stopping by here at least once if I'm in Philly for any length of time. Last fall (could've sworn I reviewed, must have forgotten!) my wife and I spent some time in town as tourists and I tried the open-faced turkey with mashed potatoes and gravy as well as the apple dumpling. Both were delicious. This time around, in town for work, I opted for the turkey melt and an order of cheese curds. The melt was crispy, the bacon crisp, and the turkey as flavorful as I remembered. The cheese curds are fantastic, the serving portion huge (could not finish those as much as I tried). I've yet to order a breakfast platter here but many surrounding me did and everything looked fantastic. Friendly service, fast prep, fair prices, and (usually) ample seating. One of the quieter corners in Reading too, so nothing to complain about whatsoever. read more
I was so excited to try Dutch Eating Place in Reading Terminal Market (side note: I'm pretty sure every restaurant in the market is exceptional). The staff are so friendly and kind. They truly make you feel at home. We got the cheeseburger special with house fries and a strawberry lemonade. I love how fresh all of the items tasted. There's something really satisfying about the homemade taste of the fries. The strawberry lemonade was a classic (expect it to be pretty sweet). The star of the show was, of course, the hot apple dumpling. I love apple pie and this dessert absolutely satisfied that craving. Extremely reasonable prices for the quality of the food at Dutch Eating Place! I would definitely come back here, both for the food and the delightful service. read more

We were able to stop by and dine in at Dutch Eating Place after landing and were excited to try the apple dumplings they're so famous for. We were also excited about their chipped beef, and blueberry pancakes. Everything else was a a bonus for us. Their diner is inside the Reading Terminal, and when you are inside you're immediately hit by the produce and the diners, butcher shop inside. It's a quick and walk to have a seat at Dutch Eating Place, or you can place a pickup order and go on your way. We sat in, and immediately were greeted and handed a menu, and offered drinks. We had coffee and a water, and started to browse. We settled on a blueberry pancake, the cream chipped beef, and the teen got a French toast with home fries. We were excited because Dutch Eating Place had amazing reviews! The food also smelled amazing; and they were pretty busy for an early morning. You know I feel bad because their reviews are great, but our food was pretty mediocre. The best thing we had was the blueberry pancake. It was so big and tasty! My creamed chipped beef was great, but it was warm!! Why?!?! It would have been so much better if it was hot, but I still ate the entire thing. The French toast was also heavy on eggs, and the home fries were different than what were used to. They were roughly chopped, some of the too pieces were crispy, but the deeper into the plate, the more soft and soggy they were and they lacked flavor. The coffee was okay, nothing to rave about. Now the apple dumpling was great- it was different, hot, and tasty. A couple bites in and we were hit with a terrible sweet tooth so we stopped eating it, but overall a great try since we were open minded this entire trip looking for food that was different than Vegas. Would I be back when I return? Maybe not; but I'm so glad I got to experience Dutch Eating Place! read more

About how long does it take for the food to be prepared? I'm planning a trip with folks, and we're on a pretty tight time schedule.
The pancakes take maybe five minutes to make. All of their food is prepared really quickly but the only hold up would be if there is a line for seating or takeout.
What time is breakfast over?
Usually around 11 AM but they are sometimes kind of flexible if you want pancakes or something like that later.
Do they serve waffles?
They do serve waffles but only when it is a waffles and fried chicken lunch special every third week (i.e. you can't order just waffles at breakfast).
Hello. What time do you stop serving breakfast?
Breakfast is served until noon Tuesday-Friday and 2PM on Saturdays
Are there any Gluten Free options on the menu?
What David said is correct. No GF menu, but there are things you can order without bread. They make apple dumplings, so if you are allergic to wheat, that would be bad.
