It has been a while since being back here. The service is always friendly and helpful, the space seems a bit small, but there are enough seatings. I like the brightness of the space and the noise inside does not get loud. The food has been good, although I find the food too salty at times or lack in flavour. I got the crispy tofu banh mi, and I really enjoyed the tofu, but wished they seasoned or marinated the tofu. They do add their own sauce inside banh mi, but I still thought it could have used a bit more flavour. My daughter got their crispy tofu rice dish and she said she liked it. Their Vietnamese coffee is nice, and hopefully I can go back and try some of their other entrees. read more

Yum!!!! Finally check out TBD after hearing so many great things. I ordered the sweet bacon jam remix over the phone while I was a few blocks out. The space is so cute with seating for probably about 30 people. The staff is super friendly and had my order made so quickly. The sandwich is huge and comes with home-fries with peppers and onions. This sandwich was SO good. Such a nice balance of sweet and heat, and to my surprise, wasn't soggy at all, even after carrying it home a few blocks. I've come here a couple times now. The first time I came here, I got a chao ga that was both tasty and a good portion size. The most recent time, my friend and I both got banh mi's with different fillings. I felt like the size of the sandwich was very good for the price, which was affordable! Despite the long wait times I'm always happy with my food! I brought others to try it out and they too had a great experience. The food they offer are unique takes on classic Asian and American dishes. I tried one of their specials that they list on their little planters and it was so yummy. My favorite place to get breakfast/brunch when I lived nearby! Their food is so comforting and delicious. I always get the tofu and egg bowl. The tomato sauce is a little too fishy for my taste, but the tofu is so crispy and yummy that I eat it anyway. The first and last time I tasted the Vietnamese iced coffee, it had an unleasant aftertaste. The jasmine palmer wasn't really noteworthy either. The chicken was also really dry. I am in LOVE with the Breakfast Den. As soon as I saw Vietnamese Fusion Brunch, I was in. Let's start with the ambiance. It was so colorful and cute inside. Definitely a very fun, artistic vibe. I loved it in the early morning. We were lucky in that we got here right as it opened and did not have to wait to get a seat. We were immediately seated. I went with the Thit Kho Hash and my finance decided to get Tbd Breakfast Rice Bowl with crispy pork belly and a side of chili oil. Let me tell you, these dishes were like nothing I have ever had! They were full of flavor and I was just so excited to be trying all of this for a new brunch experience. The pork in both dishes, while very different preparations, were cooked to perfection. Vietnamese breakfast has definitely made me rethink what is considered breakfast! When I think of banh mi, I think of it as a lunch hoagie that is eaten as a quick and simple lunch. Well, at the Breakfast Den, banh mi can be had for breakfast as they add their own twist to it! The Op La Banh Mi has the most perfect runny yolk and after it leaked all over inside the sandwich, the bread soaked up all the creamy yolk to create the most magical bite. The crispy eggplant was another new breakfast item to me. Who knew this would be something I would get very addicted to! The eggplant has a light crunch on the outside with the inside being soft and smooth eggplant texture. The sauce is slightly tangy aioli that complimented the fried eggplant well in cutting some of the greasiness from fried foods. Keep in mind that this place does get busy on the weekends and the restaurant itself does have limited seating, feeling a bit crammed at times. The wait to get a table wasn't too long, however, as the staff were efficient in clearing up the tables quickly as patrons leave. TBD is one of my family's favorite breakfast places. The food here is out of control good, arrives quickly and is always hot, which is a special treat when your a parent and usually eat last. We usually get a few items to share and have never been disappointed. My favorites are the summer rolls, congee and honey ginger milk tea. The kids usually share the two two two meal or get the chocolate chip bacon pancakes. The wife gets a breakfast Sammy and a fancy coffee. Staff is super friendly and never gives us the side eye, even when my kids spit water on the floor, touch the decorations on the wall or scream that their tablets need a charge. The Breakfast Den is a cozy corner restaurant located in Graduate Hospital with superb ambiance and interior. I dined in shortly with a friend after opening hour on a Tuesday morning, and LOVED the delicious, filling two plates and latte ordered. Both dishes were really flavorful. I was sad to hear they didn't have banh mi for my Banh Mi Op La, but the brioche bun was still a delicious substitute. The sandwich itself was balanced with the saltier pork and egg flavors matching well to the pickled veggies and its sweetness. The mash was also incredibly filling with well-seasoned home fries and jalapeños that gave a great extra kick. I was excited to see they have fruit-flavored matcha from their Instagram, and the strawberry matcha was flavorful and definitely one of the better I've had in the city. Service was great as well. Everyone that came in after us were also tended to quickly, and we received our food and drink promptly. It was still early so we seated ourselves, but our waitress looked after we us well. This review is for the Vegan Chao. The Breakfast Den itself is very cute, quaint, clean and efficient and friendly service. Both of my friends seemed to enjoy their crispy tofu banh mi. I was disappointed with my vegan chao. On the menu it says " can be made vegan" so we were all quite curious what they would do to substitute the egg and the crispy chicken skins. It turns out, they just omit the items and cook the porridge in a veg broth. I'm always very disappointed when the vegan option is omitting, but charging the same price of $10 for this bowl of rice, crispy shallots, and herbs. I will say that the chao was well seasoned and made. I would consider returning if I was in the neighborhood to try the banh mi - but otherwise wouldn't recommend the vegan chao ga. read more

My first time having Vietnamese + American fusion breakfast, and I really enjoyed it. We waited around 40 minutes on a Sunday morning for a table. The bahn mi and spring rolls were essentially breakfast sandwiches either wrapped in the spring roll rice paper or assembled on the bahn mi bread roll. I liked the Viet pulled porked in the thit kho hash- the sweetness of the marinade was a nice surprise that went well with the salted potatoes and jalepenos. The Breakfast Den is a VERY popular breakfast and coffee shop serving American-Vietnamese cuisine. --- We dined on a weekend afternoon at The Breakfast Den and even though it was packed, we were seated in a timely fashion. After our initial order was taken, we felt both rushed and neglected. First, the server tried to grab our order many times in the span of 10 minutes, (but as first time diners we needed more time to look over the menu). After we ordered, we struggled to get any servers' attention. Even standing at the counter, three servers were having a conversation while looking at me standing there. We had to go up to the counter every time we needed more water and, later on, for the check. This was only a minor inconvenience, but it was a little stressful. We really enjoyed the food! I'm not sure how the vegan modifications are, but the side of chicken was crispy and the pulled pork was very flavorful, if not too salty. These were shared between two people (with one side of rice) and we both were very full afterwards. The restaurant was loud and fairly packed. The tables were a bit small to have a full meal on, so I'd recommend ordering only 1 dish/person to ensure they fit. Overall, we were really happy with the food, even if the service was stressful. Came here a few months ago and liked it but after this visit, unsure if I'll be back. Ordered French toasty which cost 17 dollars and came with the thinnest brioche I've ever seen. Less than 1 slice of a normal slice of brioche. Egg and bacon were also paltry. That said, Banh mi op la was good. Not sure why this one doesn't come with side potatoes when every other breakfast sandwich does. It is stuffed with pickled carrot, herbs, eggplant pate, jalapeños, and the fried eggplant themselves. The eggplant provided a nice crunch. The bread was nice & toasted. In the diner desert that is the City of Philadelphia, The Breakfast Den is one of the only (maybe THE only?) very good spots to sit down and enjoy a casual, well-priced breakfast west of Broad. Delicious Vietnamese fare mixed with some breakfast classics like pancakes and eggs in a super quaint corner on South. I tried the pancake, hash, and the brothy rice porridge, all of which were super delicious and VERY filling. The hash and porridge (Chao Ga) were the standouts for me, and I am desperate to try their banh mi next time. I think in the future I'll likely opt for takeout. This place is a bit small and gets BUSY on weekends. I would recommend grabbing a table before 10am or else making plans to walk the neighborhood while you wait. Service was pleasant and I appreciate they are brewing up caphe roasters coffee. The taste is more catered towards Americans than traditional Vietnamese. The pancakes tasted just like you would expect. Also had an iced lavender coffee which was watered down, no taste of coffee or lavender! My husband tried the eggs with hash and shredded beef- the meat was dry and the food was covered with raw sliced jalapeños, a bit much. Tip- The spot is busy so expect a wait. Everything was average, don't expect an over the top, unique eat! Also, be aware on the placard to scan the menu, in tiny print, states a 20% gratuity will be added to all checks. There's nothing super bad but there is also nothing super good that I would rave about the place. I personally got the rice bowl with added pork belly. The pork belly was good and crispy. Overall, it was good but basic. If I didn't add the pork belly, it would be what I usually make at home on a lazy day. It's pretty hard to mess up putting rice on a place with some eggs. The portions were very generous and the flavors were pretty good. I will say the Vietnamese ice coffee was not as strong as I'm used to. My bowl was 15 dollars and the banh mi was 12. Honestly the thing that threw me off about this place was the service. It was pretty busy in the restaurant, but we were really rushed in the beginning of our meal-- the server asked us 3 times less than ten minutes since we sat down if we were ready to order. Then in less than 15 minutes since we got the food she asked us if we were finished working on our food. We said we were and then a few minutes later a different server came and asked us if we wanted containers. We figured they wanted to finish the meal since it was a busy time, so we just asked for the container and the check only for them to not give it to us for 30 minutes. And then our original server came back and asked us if we wanted containers again...
