I found pickle heaven! This spot has all types of pickles from sweet to spicy to garlicky and then some. We came for some dried sausage, which I definitely recommend trying if in the area. It won't disappoint. They have a decent selection of meats and cheese, as well as jams, seasonings and local honey options. I noticed they also had some sandwiches to choose from for a quick lunch. This place is always busy, and I can see why.

Great place to buy fresh cuts of meat. The brats (which we grilled ourselves) were very mild but great to find

Dutchman's Jalepeño poppers are the best I've ever tasted. 5 bucks a dozen. Call ahead to order. Cook them at home.

Service With a Smile - Hitchin Post Steakhouse…read more If you're ever in Fredericksburg, TX make sure to stop by Hitchin Post Steakhouse. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a smile and seated quickly. Our waitress, Toyna, was friendly, attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and made us feel welcome throughout the entire meal. We started with the Cajun-style onion rings--thinly sliced, perfectly crispy, and served with a side of ranch. They were absolutely delicious. For our entrées, we both ordered the All-American cheeseburger with fries, and they were outstanding. The burgers were juicy, flavorful, and cooked just right, while the fries were hot and crispy. I'd easily give the meal a 9 out of 10. I paired mine with a local stout from Altstadt Brewing Company, which complemented the burger perfectly. My significant other ordered the iced tea, and you could actually taste the tea leaves--fresh, smooth, and one of the best restaurant teas we've had. Before leaving, we asked Toyna what dessert she recommended. Without hesitation, she suggested the made-to-order peach pie, and we're glad we listened. It arrived piping hot with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream, topped with homemade whipped cream, and paired perfectly with a cup of fresh black coffee. The combination was incredible. The peach pie was a 10 out of 10, and one serving is more than enough for two people to share. This restaurant gets a whopping 9.5 out of 10. Great food, outstanding service, and an experience that reminded us why locally owned restaurants are often the best. If you're visiting Fredericksburg, Hitchin Post Steakhouse is well worth the stop. We'll definitely be back. Next up their 14oz ribeye, see y'all soon. Ernie P.

We got the dinner steak which comes with your choice of two sides and the small pates version of the chicken fried steak. It was the perfect portion size and also comes with two sides. They encourage more Formal which is refreshing in a town where most restaurants invite casual. We were on time for our reservation, but waited a few minutes in their small waiting area. The hostess/manager had a bit of a school principal attitude, but overall was pleasant. We were seated in a small room amongst several other tables, but still felt intimate. The lighting is a bit on the dark side, but the candles bring out a great atmosphere. A violinist and cello created a romantic feeling (Enchanted Rock Orchestra Strolling Duo). We started with cocktails, which were crafted beautifully. The menu has old classics as well as innovative ones. For the appetizers, we had the focaccia bread which was delicious as well as the stuffed mushrooms which were delicately made and quite tasty. The wine list is short but encompasses Old world and New World wines. My wife had a Bordeaux while I had a Tuscany blend. Both delicious. For our entrées, we shared the filet mignon with peppercorn sauce with candied brussels sprouts and hand whipped mashed potatoes as sides. The food was surprisingly delicious, well presented and portioned. We truly enjoyed our entrées. For dessert we had the bananas foster cheesecake. Unique, not too sweet, delicious ending. If you come to Fredericksburg, definitely try this restaurant. You will enjoy the experience, the ambience and most definitely the food.
