I found pickle heaven! This spot has all types of pickles from sweet to spicy to garlicky and then some. We came for some dried sausage, which I definitely recommend trying if in the area. It won't disappoint. They have a decent selection of meats and cheese, as well as jams, seasonings and local honey options. I noticed they also had some sandwiches to choose from for a quick lunch. Over two visits, several staff members were rather rude to my wife and I, who were wearing masks, but bright as daisies for a half-dozen other customers who came in without them. At 4pm on a Tuesday, we bought 5 t-bones from the display case; they were the last few steaks from a group that had clearly been in there a while. By 9 that evening they stank a little, so I trimmed some old-looking (and old-smelling) stuff off their rinds, repackaged them, and put 'em back in the fridge. By 9 the next morning, they were too far gone to use, so I took 'em back. The manager guy sniffed them, said they were fine and that, having been fresh-cut yesterday (they hadn't looked or smelled fresh-cut, I'll tell you that!), they might be a little "gassy"--his word, not mine. He said he'd replace them in spite of their being just fine, and he got us 5 actually fresh-cut t-bones from a new set that had appeared on display, and sent us on our way. Never admitted fault, but he did correct the mistake, so I guess we came out okay--but it was hardly a good experience. read more

Well another disappointing purchase from Dutchman's. I had bought jerky from this store many times. Bought jerky(can't remember if it was beef or turkey) in October. It tasted stale, like it had sat too long under refrigeration. But I know Dutchman's makes good jerky so last Monday I tried it again, bought some turkey jerky but it had the same stale taste like last time. What's up Dutchman's? I know y'all can make better tasting jerky then that. read more

We took our two steer here to get butchered. They did a knock out job! We had to wait but it was totally worth it. I let the manager know that my family eats kosher, he took care of us and made sure all sanitization was up to par keeping our beef from pork. One of the older women behind the counter was a bit rude, she was either having a bad day or just overwhelmed at the moment.. it's all good.. I've been there. Next a young lady stepped in to help me, SHE WAS AMAZING AND KIND. I wish I knew her name. We will be back. read more

I called All the meat markets here in Kerrville, looking for chicken feet. Not a single meat market in Kerrville was willing, to see if they could get them from their supplier. Dutchman's was able to call a supplier for me to see if they could get them for me. They were great at calling me back several times. No meat market in Kerrville called me back I had to call each one that said they would check to see if they could order them, but they never did a follow up. Dutchman's was able to get what I needed. That is why most shop elsewhere because Kerrville businesses are not willing to go out their way to earn your business. Thank you Dutchman's others could learn from you. read more

Old time meat shop, smoked meats and sausage. They have dried sausage which is a great road trip treat. Jerky is really good. The family loves the products here. Pro tips, no public restrooms - go ahead of time. Only open 8-12 on Saturday - Memorial Day weekend they sell out quickly on dried sausage - Garlic sausage is awesome. I'm a bit conflicted with this review. We stopped in before attending a funeral for some snacks. My host had been before. It was not quite what I was expecting, but not sure that was. There were tons of dip spice packets and jams, jellies, and honey. There was sausage and jerky, some chips and soda. There were a few packets of cubed cheese. We got some chips, cheese and dried sausage. While we were inside, it turned 1:00pm. The lights went out and a man locked the door. A woman came up and saw us inside and wanted in. The man refused her. They mean it when they say they close at 1PM on Saturday. Must have really big things going on to refuse another customer who comes to the door at thirty seconds past one. I'm not a fan of dried sausage, but this was fairly good. I do love cheese, and this was good, but I do wish we'd gotten sharp cheddar. I was tempted to buy some of the spices for cheese balls and dips, but thought they prices were a little high. Nice little shop if you have custom butchering needs and like fresh and smoked meats and cheeses. read more

Good cuts of meat great sandwiches friendly employees! Responsible and fast order completions

Let me start out by saying that if I could, I would give this place 5 more stars in addition to the 5 that I'm already giving it. Also, I am a self proclaimed meat girl, so this place make my heart go a-pitter-patter! We've stopped in here on our many day trips that we make out to the lovely Fredericksburg and we not don't ever go out there without stopping in. The smoked and dried meats are UH-mazing. Cannot be beat, The dried sausage is perfect to pick up (they'll even slice it up for you!) with some cheese and take to a winery and enjoy with a glass of wine. Trust me, I know, because I've done it! More than once! Go in one day around lunch time and ask them for one of their sandwiches, which by the way are simple, but amazing. They'll make it right there, to your very liking! They're amazingly simple, but always hit the spot and did I mention super reasonable? We have yet to pick up any of their steaks, ground meats etc., but I cannot wait for the day that we do. How is it that we always forget to bring a cooler along?! We'll be out there next month for a little get away and my mouth is already watering for one of those fresh rib-eyes or fillets! They're cut fresh daily and will even be cut to your own specifications. I cannot brag enough about this place. The prices are amazing and the people are so sweet. If I lived any closer than 45 minutes to an hour from this place, steak would be on the menu constantly. Everything here is/looks great. I could go on and on...There is just something about an old-timey butcher shop that puts a smile on my face. read more

My husband accepted 2dozen worthless jalapeño poppers with extremely small jalapeño with less than 1/2 teaspoon of cream cheese with less than 1/4 slice of bacon. The worst experience I've ever had. I can't even stomach this crap! Wouldn't ever recommend ever!!!! read more

I have been a customer for most of my life. I love to support local businesses. Multiple times I have checked their website and called to confirm hours. Their website states they are open, but the phone just rings and rings??!! I guess they are closed?? Since they are the only game in town I can only assume they don't care about notifying their customers when they are open or not. read more

Situation was simple. Place an order on a Tuesday for a head of beef and tongue to be picked up on Friday. Gentleman I spoke to seemed to know what he was doing and took my order correctly. However, when I went Friday 5 min after they opened to pick up my order I was told my order was sold the day before to someone else because they had to sell it. After calling back to see what really happened I was told that they do not know who took my order that Tuesday but they don't even sell tongue. Not knowing their own cuts and giving people random orders that they didn't order is a horrible way to conduct business. read more

I've been doing business here for more than 10 years and this is the only place to by meat...hand crafted sausage both fresh and dried. Of course they make their own bacon which is above and beyond the flaccid store bought mass produced stuff. Fresh jerky of pork tenderloin!!!! You can also get fresh cracked black pepper in just about any quantity you want for those big BBQ's. read more

I've been a customer of Dutchman's for years, thanks to the German way of fixing sausage just like my family did it. Recently I was in town and made a special trip to Dutchman's for a batch of their fine German sausage just like I remembered. SORRY we don't make SAGE sausage any more. We make Jalapeno sausage (to cater to the Mexicians?) I bought some GARLIC sausage but it tasted like ?????? Yeah I WAS a great fan of Dutchmans but now they have forgotten their heritage. read more

I can only speak to the sandwiches. I ordered a turkey on a roll which was okay but "nothing to write home about". I made the mistake of agreeing to accept heating the sandwich which I thought was toasting but was a microwave. The sandwich was wrapped in a cling type wrap and burned my fingers trying to unwrap. Do not let them heat the sandwich. Will not return because there are better places in town for sandwiches. read more

We have gotten meat from here for several years as we like to support local businesses. This year, we ordered a hind quarter from them and it was HORRIBLE. Very strong, gamey flavor that is hard to stomach. We did not ask for our money back, but questioned the owner about the bad flavor. She was extremely defensive, curt and uncooperative. We even gave them some of the meat to try and they said it was fine. If that was good quality meat, I don't want to buy from them any longer. The owner's attitude was the most disappointing. If you buy from them, buy in very small quantities so you don't lose much when it's bad. read more
