Very good food. They have all the varieties, but Goat. Indoor dining is very nice in for a Sunday after church crowds come and go, but the weights not very long. Food is excellent. Given the long line for service I expected some killer barbecue. The food was average barbecue IMO, nothing special. The brisket was lacking any real smokiness and the bark was way over seasoned. Very disappointed today. Came in for a late lunch. I had the brisket potato. Brisket was very, very dry and tough. Hubby had the jalapeño sausage sandwich and he said it was very good. Top rated for Fredericksburg for a reason. The meats are the real meats and relatively affordable as well. I got the 3 meat: brisket, pork loin, and pork ribs. The brisket was good. The pork loin and ribs were very good. I wish there was more quantity but for the price it was well worth it and the two sides great. No corn bread but I think that's a Texas thing. Do not be fooled by the line it was not worth $30. The ribs were overcooked and the moist brisket was dry. Find another place. You could cook brisket in the oven that tasted better than this. I returned it to the counter. Told him the moist brisket was dry. He didn't say a word. brisket is hard to cook. I get it. I've been doing it for 50 years when you start getting low before closing pull out yesterday's brisket and sell it. The barbecue is delicious and permeated with what I believe is mesquite smoke! I love their pork ribs. They are meaty and tender and spicy with salt and coarse pepper. The sausage is so good and is coarse grind and beef, I think. The beef brisket has a great flavor and I prefer the fatty cut. Backwoods also serves beef ribs and pork chops, but I've never tried them. . Thursday is the rib lunch special. Friday night is steak night is one I'm looking forward to trying. As far as I know, all of the sides and desserts are made from scratch and are delicious. The pinto beans are really good and...BONUS they are free. Soooo, every plate comes with 2 sides which doesn't include beans! Every body is so friendly and welcoming at Backwood's. I love the 2-meat sandwich with sliced brisket and jalapeño cheese sausage - same price as the 1-meat sandwich. While you can get the sandwich only, for about a dollar more you can enjoy a side such as firm macaroni and cheese or cheesy green beans. Pair your Texas BBQ with some iced tea or a bottle of beer. Delicious food! We enjoyed brisket, ribs, turkey and homemade veggies. Amazing mesquite aroma inside. Picnic tables outside with umbrellas, so we were able to let our dog enjoy a break from the car. 5 STARS ALL THE WAY!!!! My husband James and I got married on November 12th at Luckenbach, Texas. We contacted Michael from Backwoods BBQ to obtain a quote on catering. Their quote was extremely reasonable but my only concern was there wasn't one main vegetarian dish option outside of a giant salad and green beans. They had mac and cheese but similar to the green beans that's not really a main course dish. We don't know a lot of vegetarians but we do have a few sprinkled across family and friends and I didn't want them to not have a main dish to eat. I expressed my concern to Michael and he separately contacted a local pasta restaurant and got them to agree to include a large pasta dish that he would pickup and bring with all the other food. AKA Michael went above and beyond and I was very grateful. Fast forward to the day of my wedding. Michael and his team showed up on time, setup everything for us and even brought to-go containers my guests could use to bring leftovers back. For anyone reading this who isn't familiar with Fredericksburg they should know that once the last shuttle leaves Luckenbach at 10:30pm there wasn't going to be any late night meal options my guests could take advantage of. Having the ability to bring back a big plate of food was awesome and everyone was incredibly appreciative! We had an afterparty and people were munching all night! Most importantly, the food was AMAZING!!! Admittedly, I was a bit hesitant on going with the buffet style, especially with BBQ which can get really dry very fast if timing isn't executed perfectly, but it does make things so much easier from a planning perspective, and my husband and I were really impressed with Michael. I am literally SO HAPPY went with with Backwoods BBQ the food was truly spectacular and that is not an exaggeration! We had a massive salad, the custom pasta dish, brisket, chicken, ribs, mac and cheese and green beans. People were coming up to me all night saying "those ribs were amazing!" My family goes here for lunch often. Everything really is good here. I have a particular dislike for dry turkey breast, so I rarely order it, but boy... backwoods has the juiciest I've ever had I think. Beef ribs are pricey but worth it. One of the positives is Backwoods BBQ is not on the main drag of Fredericksburg overrun by tourists. A decent crowd still at 1 PM on a Saturday. We placed an order to go since we already filled up on pie and wine elsewhere. The brisket was moist with a nice salt and pepper rub. The sauce is flavorful, but a little sweet for my taste. The turkey was the best with a nice coarse pepper rub, moist and tender with a good smoke flavoring. The sausage is very good and the meats were ground finely without chunks of gristle seen in some sausages. I enjoyed the potato salad with a nice balance of mayo and mustard. My wife really liked the cheesy green beans, which appear to be made with the cheese you find in their macaroni and cheese. The only side I did not like was the cream corn. Not at all on a par with the most pedestrian brisket, which I probably should have had. Have eaten here many times, but this was a serious disappointment. Not impressed. No excuses about higher costs and overhead. Tea was weak, sauces were stingy, there was a wait on a couple of sides, and the second member of our group, got stalled waiting for the cutter to go get more brisket. Poor planning. Asked for pork ribs, out of those as well. The young man at the pit was cordial and suggested pichana and cut of sirloin. He threw in a few scraps of brisket that were on the pit. Gluten free review - Backwoods BBQ was recommended by our hosts at a recent VRBO stay. And it was amazingly good! With Celiac disease, I have to be careful about BBQ because of what some places put in the rub, or the sauce, etc. We walked into Backwoods and upon inquiry, were given an enthusiastic welcome and told everything was gluten free -- except the Mac dishes (as expected). Can I just say that the Turkey, was melt in your mouth goodness! We also tried brisket and sausage- both delicious. I had green beans and coleslaw for sides - did not disappoint. (The coleslaw was nice and light, not mayo with a little cabbage in it.) This is on our list to repeat next time we're in Fredericksburg. And if you're gluten free, it's a must! read more

The ribs definitely tasted like they were oven cooked. No smoke ring or smoke taste, no flavor at all, no seasonings. They were tender and dry. The brisket wasn't much better, dry and tasteless.
