The folks here are friendly and helpful and the selection and prices are great and are pretty much in line with market if not slightly lower. I ended up buying a couple of new records as they got some stock on Record Store Day here as well in addition to their usual huge inventory of used (and new) records. I even got to replace an old Rolling Stones live record that I loved (and at some point lost in my own collection). There's a big parking lot and it's fairly easy to find parking. I brought in records to sell and simply asked what he was valuing a couple of them at individually. Instead of giving me a straight answer, he got defensive, kept saying he could find them elsewhere, and repeatedly tried to steer the conversation back to one bundle price. The biggest red flag was my East Side Story record. AJ clearly had a strong interest in it, but when I asked what he valued that specific record at, he still refused to give me a direct number. If you know enough about a record to specifically want it, you should be able to tell the person standing in front of you what you're valuing it at. I do not care if a store offers me less than market value. Businesses need to make money and I understand that completely. What I do care about is transparency. Don't act like someone is stupid just because they're young. Don't dodge basic questions and expect someone to blindly accept a bundle price without understanding what you're assigning value to. The whole interaction left me feeling like he was hoping I didn't know what I had so he could get a much better deal for himself. If your prices and offers are legitimate, there should be absolutely no reason to be secretive when a customer asks how you arrived at them. Being an owner doesn't give you an excuse to talk down to people, become defensive over basic questions, or make a customer feel like you're trying to pull one over on them. Young does not mean naive. I knew enough to ask questions, and the fact that those questions were met with attitude instead of answers told me everything I needed to know. I was surprised to find they moved to a new location but judging by the photos online I trusted it would be just as great. Turns out it looks like a tornado ran through the store and they just threw whatever would stick to the wall. Random merchandise everywhere with no cohesive organization. I couldn't even anticipate where to find anything I was looking for. The most organized part of the store was the table that had their photo card folders. All of their shelves had albums haphazardly tossed in groups that you had to guess what you were looking at. They also had some that looked opened and damaged just sitting there. For an advertised Kpop store they barely had any. 60% of the store was random nicknacks, photocard organizers, "kawaii" items, and whatever they could think of to make the store look full. All of that could have been much more palatable of their customer service wasn't so awful. Went and greeted the staff with a bright "Hello" and got a very flat "hi" from a disinterested girl behind the counter. Two girls and neither of them made me feel like I was welcome there. Since Chinese painting and calligraphy are among my favorite hobbies, Soyodo has always been a meaningful place to find traditional Chinese painting supplies and guidebooks esp for maobi, painting flowers, landscapes, and ancient figures. I really appreciate that they also carry crafting supplies and classic Chinese literature, not just generic art books. Everything here feels rooted in tradition and care. The store also offers novels, children's books, Chinese New Year decor, vases, and small toys, which makes it feel like a cultural space rather than just a bookstore. On top of that, the pricing is very reasonable. I've even found books for as little as $2-4, which makes browsing and discovering new reads even more special. The owners are an older Chinese couple who are quiet, reserved, and genuinely kind. One of the things I cherish most about Soyodo is how peaceful and calm the store is. It's the kind of place where you can slow down, browse without pressure, and feel grounded. Stores like this are rare and I truly hope Soyodo continues to thrive. Even before picking up spares at Park Bowl, I recall that moment in my youth when I made the monumental decision to switch my record purchases from vinyl to CDs. Nowadays, vinyl is making a comeback among a younger generation looking for a higher quality, more realistic sound quality. I saw these Gen Z audiophiles flipping through the long LP bins in search of the elusive underground classic their stereophonic friends could appreciate and envy. Personally I could find nuggets of my own. Albums like The Very Best of Spike Jones (Photo 10) and The Complete 2,000 Year Old Man (Photo 5) resonated with me. I was happy to see individual LPs consolidated into boxed sets like the Linda Ronstadt retrospective. Beyond the music is the expansive DVD collection of movie titles both classic and obscure.
