There were a a handful of people waiting to be seated when we arrived and the couple before us were seated at the last outdoor patio table available. The hostess told us that we could go upstairs to the bar area and sit anywhere we wanted and a server would be with us directly. So that's what we did. As a side note, the whole vibe of the restaurant was very comfortable and the building itself is pretty remarkable. Water and menus were delivered within minutes of us selecting our table, and our waitress Victoria maintained that same level of attentiveness the whole time we were there. The biggest shortcoming of so many restaurants in and around Big Bear is the bar and their specialty drinks. But this place just slam dunked on every other restaurant we've ever tried over the years - and not just for the drinks. I love a good old fashioned but until last night, every place I'd been to served their old fashioned in a glass full of ice like I was getting a soda at a fast food drive through. Not here. A proper big block ice cube made the "Maple old fashioned" (hands down) the best drink I've ever had. (I think they've got like 7 or 8 different varieties of the old fashioned and I will definitely be back to try them.) Our potato skins appetizer was on another level and that was before our entrees even arrived. My beef dip sandwich was perfect as was wifey's chicken Scaloppini. The timing of food arriving and the periodic check-ins from our waitress was flawless. We spoke briefly with the bartender, Doug (who may or may not have been one of the owners) to express how much we enjoyed our drinks and dinner. The hallmark of a well-run restaurant is that everyone who works there conducts themselves like it's their name on the sign out front. That's exactly what we got from everyone involved. Whoever is in charge of the kitchen staff deserves a Michelin star rating. The rest of the staff is equally impressive. I can't say enough about this place. Excellent drinks, excellent food and dynamite service. If you want a top-notch dining experience in Big Bear, this should be your first and only choice. From now on, it'll be mine.

We're a family of four with a well-behaved standard poodle, so we completely understood that our seating options were limited. What we didn't understand was watching two other families with dogs arrive after us and get seated well before us, along with what felt like half of Big Bear. Our "table is ready" text finally arrived 53 minutes after we joined the waitlist. If the real wait is an hour, just say an hour. At least then we could have taken our dog for a hike, grabbed lunch somewhere else, and possibly returned in time for our table.

This is genuinely one of the highlights of every trip when I get the chance to come here. I've tried a few of the bowls and they've all been solid, but the Kraken is definitely my go-to. The fish, flavors, and toppings all work so well together. I love everything about this bowl and find myself thinking about it even when I'm nowhere near Big Bear. I'm also glad they were able to move into a bigger location because the old one was much smaller. It can still get PACKED though. On our most recent visit, we came around 3:30 pm on a Monday during the last week of December and waited about 45 minutes to order, then another 20 minutes for our food. They have a self-order kiosk now, which helps keep things moving, but I'd still be prepared for a wait when it's busy. Considering how good the food is, I completely understand why so many people are here. The staff deserves a mention too. They're always so kind, welcoming, and high-energy, which makes the experience even better despite how busy it can get. I seriously love Tropicali. It's wild to me that some of my favorite poke is all the way up in Big Bear, but I always look forward to the next time I can come back. Absolutely worth the wait every time.

The atmosphere and overall treatment did not make us feel welcome with children, and instead of being able to relax and enjoy our meal, we felt as though having young kids with us was an inconvenience. Families deserve to know this before making a reservation or spending their money here. If you are dining with young children and are looking for a warm, welcoming, family-friendly restaurant, I would recommend choosing somewhere else.

But we know who wears the pants - the mean old lady. Menu prices in other upscale restaurants, server offers these services. Next day, my mediocre, less than 6 pieces of clam linguini was not packed. Went into town to grab a bite to eat before heading down the mountain. Keep in mind, Corkage fee per bottle here is $30 per bottle. Typically, elsewhere is $15-20. Beware. Upon discovering my clam linguini was not packed, My friend who graciously paid the $600+ bill called and spoke to Midean ( elderly owner lady); again, the owner was super defensive and pushed the responsibility on us for not packing the leftovers ourselves. Polite response from my friend to Midean, "your server Alan offered to pack our leftovers," shifting the responsibility back to the restaurant. When asked if my food could be replaced, a rude response was a stern no, it's not our fault! I asked how will you address this incident to your staff? She said, " Will tell server never to offer packing leftovers to customers." Furthermore, she told us to never come back. Wowzer - indeed, we will be taking our business elsewhere and warn others not to experience your rudeness.

Since I am not a big potato fan I asked if I could just have a little angel hair paste instead of potato. The guy told me it would be an "UP CHARGE"! Really? I had no drink and my entree of two thin half pieces of chicken and garlic mashed potatoes was $36.....and they wanted to charge me to switch potatoes to pasta.....no they don't make their own pasta so this is just angel hair out of a package and boiled. Take the tourist money, I won't be back.

Food - portion sizes felt smaller. While Indian dishes aren't typically huge, the presentation this time made them look a bit meager--it could be the dinnerware, the presentation? I don't know. Flavor-wise, something has changed for the worse. The Chicken Tikka Masala was decent, but lacked the rich depth and spice profile of our previous visits. The Fish Vindaloo suffered a similar fate. It wasn't bad, but it lacked that bold, signature Indian flavor. Also, using salmon felt like a misstep; its strong flavor tends to clash with vindaloo spices rather than absorb them. Side note, this dish was not at all spicy. And the server never asked us about the spiciness level of any of the dishes we ordered. Maybe they only offer non-spicy for all their dishes?? The same vindaloo dish at our favorite Indian restaurant in L.A. is very spicy and full of other favors. Service was just ok. The restaurant was quiet, with far more empty tables than occupied ones, yet the food took quite a while to come out. At one point, at least four servers were standing around the counter watching the dinning hall. Yet, other than delivering the food, no one came to any of the tables to check on them once the food had been delivered. Multiple times nearby tables waved their hands in the air to get attention after they got their food. We overheard one young man asking for hot sauce and chuckled - so someone else wanted their food spicier, too! Come here if you REALLY love touristy/Americanized Indian or want some vegetarian choices. Personally, I'll find dinner elsewhere next time in Big Bear.

(2) Tandoori chicken with salad. The salad was the better choice than Raita. The Tandoori chicken was good. Again the lentil was too watery. The rice and naan were good. We also had the mango lassi, which is a shake with yogurt and mango. It was delicious but I wish it had come earlier (while I was waiting for my food). The drink did not come until after my food has arrived. Service was adequate. Nothing exceptional but gets the job done. Portion size was good.

This has to be by far the best Chinese restaurant that I have eaten at. My boyfriend and I went in there for dinner and they were packed! We had to wait about ten minutes but it was worth it!! I got the chili sauce wontons for an appetizer,They came out hot and spicy, the juice was so flavorful, I have never had anything like it before! My boyfriend got the pan fried dumplings, they took a little longer then my wontons to come out but when they did they were fried perfectly and stuffed full of pork, MMMM. For our entree we got the spicy chilli pepper chicken and a lobster! You wouldn't think that a Chinese place would have lobster but they do, they have a full tank of them, we got to pick out the one we wanted and they cooked it right then and there for us. The chef/owner even personally came out to our table to talk to us about how we would like it prepared, we went with garlic and onion, absolutely amazing. Every bite had so much flavor packed into it.The chilli pepper chicken was great to, the chicken was soft and it was spicy just the was I love my food. For dessert we got a glass of wine and a vanilla sunday, Both of witch were great. I came here a few years back and loved this place. So of course when I came back up here I had to come back. This time I decided to go out of my comfort zone and try some new dishes. We started off with there pork stuffed jalapenos. When they came out I was very suprised, they were fresh jalapenos stuffed full of pork and topped with there spicy chilli sauce ( a plus, they were not breaded!) After that we ordered the Peking duck and boiled beef. The duck came our chopped into pieces with bread pancakes to go with them. Absolutely amazing! The meat was so juicy and the skin was so crispy. The water cooked beef was to die for. If you love spicy, do your self a favor and order this dish! It was so spicy and had so many vegetables in it. Honestly 3 people could have shared just this dish. We were so stuffed but had to try the candied banana. Not what I expected! The serve brought out my dish with bowl of water???? Yes bowl of water, I thought it was weird at first, then they brought out the banana and PUT IT IN THE WATER! I was blown away. They take the hot freshly cooked candid banana and Put it into the water to make the out side hard and crunchy and the inside warm and soft. Over all experience was amazing. We were trying to support a locally owned restaurant, but unfortunately this will be the last. The food is extremely bland. We had to add soy sauce to try to add flavor, but even that did nothing. We also found a moldy onion skin in our food. The main reason they are getting a low rating is for cleanliness. There was sediment or something at the bottom of all of our water glasses. I am assuming the ice dispenser is filthy. They have green beans in a box just sitting in the middle of the restaurant on a dining table. Some are just laying on the table. When we used the soy sauce, one side of the spout is clogged. It looks like people are living at the restaurant since they were coming out of the kitchen and heading upstairs (they were not wearing uniforms like they work there). The tongs and the scale for the lobster are sitting on the floor. I am shocked the health department hasn't done something about this place. The service was good, but the cleanliness just ruined. read more

Me my girlfriend and a friend of mine went to this restaurant last night and all I have to say is wow! We sat down and immediately out waitress was with us. We started off with Mai Thais which were delicious. Appetizers we got pan fried dumplings which were so juicy they were spilling all over the table! So good. After that we got the three flavor sizzling rice soup which was fantastic very hot and very fresh the way I like it. A couple more yummy drinks and then we got to the main dishes. We had the water cooked fish which was done to perfection! So much flavor and so much heat amazing, we also got the Hong Kong duck which was crispy skinned and so juicy! The last dish was imperial shrimp. I have never had a dish like this before. It was sweet and succulent so fresh and a nice tangy finish. I do not like this place at all!! I live in Big Bear and have ordered this food twice to be delivered since they are one of the few who do...anyway, it was yuck the first time...very greasy and just not high quality ingredients. (Not really sure what it's made of to be honest)...but I like to give a place a fair shot in the off chance they had a bad night...well, unfortunately for them, I had my second gross meal from there recently :( ...i do not ever like to write a poor review, and I usually don't write reviews unless a place is excellent or if it's horible... that way I can hopefully steer someone away from a bad experience and a waste of money. Please do yourself a favor and eat Chinese food somewhere else off the mountain cuz this is NOT the place!! you without doubt would be better off going to McDonald's or picking up a roasted chicken from vons! read more

Went to Dynasty with my bf for dinner last night, and I have to say it was the best Chinese food Ive ever had. We started out with pan fried dumplings and a Pu Pu tray for two. The pan fried dumplings were amazing!!!! The Pu Pu tray gives you a chance to try a little bit of everything...very good! Next we had won-ton soup....delicious!!! For the main course we had Mongolian beef and sweet and sour shrimp. The beef was super tender and had great flavor and the shrimp was also very good. All of the food had great presentation, great service, and beautiful decor. All in all I would recommend Dynasty to anyone who is heading to Big Bear if they are looking for a great Chinese place. read more

I am so picky when it comes to Chinese food especially because I'm originally from San Francisco. I have definitely seen the entire Chinese food spectrum. This place completely took me by surprise, as it's located smack dab on top of an 8,000 ft mountain. The food was so authentic! I know this because my brother lives in Sichuan, China and I visit him regularly. The water cooked fish that I ordered was almost identical to the one I get back in China. The owner really needs to relocate to the bay area as it would definitely stand out! I definitely look forward to my next visit as I will be making this a part of my Big Bear routine :D read more

My fiance and I went in for dinner it was very busy witch is expected the food here is amazing. We ordered the pan fried dumplings. They came out hot and stuffed full of pork. We had the spicy chili pepper chicken (it lives up to its name). It had so much flavor packed into it. We also got the beef with broccoli, it tasted so good, the meat was cooked perfectly it was so soft and melted in your mouth.My fiance got a glass of wine for dessert (there wine list is very nice and has lots of options) I got the green tea ice cream it was to die for. Firstly, this is my favor spot when I every time go to Big Bear. I love SPICY food and they make my day!! I strongly recommend the "Sliced Beef in Spicy Sauce" " Chili Sauce Won Ton" "Spicy Chili Pepper Chicken" and " String Beans with Pork" they made every dishes tasty defferent spicy flavor...... Secondly, they have togo or delivery because I hate to drive on the snow night. Thirdly, I personal afraid some Chinese restaurant add the MSG in the food but they don't. So excited about this place, the Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings are amazing. Crisp /curry /soy /ginger /garlic coating ,cook with red pepper spiced perfectly.only $7.95. Egg Plant Szechuan ,Green Bean, Spicy Udon Noodles,and Mapo Tofu are awesome as well (around $8.95). We were most impressed with Chef's Choice page, Not only the spicy dishes but also has a recommended wine by the glass. It's like a food & wine pairing course,and our waitress even let us try it before we order a full glass.our favor is Water Lily Shrimp with basil(spicy) paired with Pinot Grigio, sweet & Pungent Sprimp Paired with Vouvray, Szechuan Style Sauteed Lamb paired with Rose,and Hong Kong Style BBQ Duck paired with Pinot Noir and Bordeaux. We ordered through DoorDash and unfortunately the food didn't live up to expectations. Overall, everything could have used more flavor. The wontons and egg noodles were overly greasy, which made them hard to enjoy. The fried rice and orange chicken lacked seasoning and tasted pretty bland. The menu descriptions on DoorDash could definitely be more detailed, as it's hard to know exactly what you're getting. Also, the combination plates didn't feel like a good value for the price. read more

Roaches crawling on the booth and walls. I spotted one roach after we finished our appetizers, then a second appeared, and a third on the wall. Excellent food! My family and I visit Big bear often, and this is by far our favorite restaurant to go to. My wife and I usually split a Duck Lobster. The sauce is to die for! I would say one of their best dishes. So tasty you can't help but to eat the entire plate. I would give this place 10 stars if possible. The best restaurant in Big Bear by a long shot! read more

My Asian wife and I visited here from Ensanada MX, and we're very pleased. The owner Barry, was very personable and helpful. We ordered pork dumpling appetizer. The entrees included chicken cashew, beef with Chinese broccoli, and triple delight seafood. We owned three Chinese restaurants, so think we are experts in this area. I went here and order togo ...I've order half an order of duck for $25 what a ripp off and it was dry and hot and sour soup and orange chicken . This place needs a good cleaning! The food is decent, but the walls look like no one has touched them since they were badly painted years ago which effects the overall dining experience. I could not help but wonder about how clean the kitchen was. I really hope the owner reads this, because Big Bear needs a decent Chinese place. read more

I had read the reviews on Yelp and was really hoping for a great meal. Unfortunately it was less than I expected. We ordered Mongolian Beef, Sweet and Sour Chicken, and Twice cooked Pork. The food was very bland and barely warm. The best thing we has was the fried rice :( I am not sure I would spend my money here again. read more

Food was terrible. I wonder when the last time the owner or manager ate the food here? I would be ashamed. They are cutting corners and still charging full price. Service was terrible. The food came quickly and we started to eat. In my mother's first bite of food, she got a massive hair in her noodles :( ! She immediately returned it but no longer had an appetite. The noodles i received kind of tasted like microwave food, so i didn't quite enjoy it, but my brothers enjoyed their food! they got brisket pho, the steam bbq pork bun, and thai boba ice tea. I liked the taste of the pork buns, and the boba was delicious TL;DR, i didn't get a stomach ache, and (most of) my family enjoyed their meal. The servers were great and polite, but the place could use some upgrades ambiance wise and more cleaning . Fairly priced.

That was another letdown I will give credit where it's due: the staff did keep the water filled, the prices were reasonably fair, and the dining room was quiet and relaxed. Those things earned the extra star But overall, unless you have a lot of time to kill and aren't particularly concerned about the food being authentic or well-executed, I really wouldn't recommend making a special trip here.
