We were exploring the downtown Village area and walked by this place, and after smelling the aroma of the bbq decided this is where we'll have dinner. They have seating inside and in a side patio, plus only a handful of seats along the bar. I saw that reviews talked about spotty service but that the food was good so we decided to just brave it. Indeed when we went inside, it took a while for anyone to greet us and seat us, maybe between five to ten minutes. We eventually asked a worker if we can just sit at the bar since we saw some seats open up and we sat there. They have some beers on draft, we got some cali creamin beers which were good. My bf and I ordered the 2 meat combo with brisket and a full rack of ribs - both of those meats being additional charges (+$5 for brisket and $10 for full rack of ribs) because we assume they're the best meats they make here. The waiter even confirmed the brisket is the best and he recommended the ribs as the second meat to get. We got onion rings and fried pickles as our two sides. It took quite a while for it to come out so our appetites really grew. At one point we saw our sides - the onion rings and pickles - ready in front of the pickup window for a WHILE before the meats were ready and before everything was brought over to us. We were bummed bc when we eventually got everything, our sides were cold. Despite being cold, they were probably the best part of the meal and the onion rings especially were tasty. Ok let's talk specifics on the bbq. The brisket was unfortunately super dry and chewy. Sadly the worst brisket either of us has ever had. We couldn't even finish it and didn't even think it was worth finishing. The ribs too, the meat did not fall off the bone like a sign of good ribs. I had to peel them off the bone with my fingers and they were also dry. The ribs were slightly more passable to us than the brisket, but we were pretty shocked and disappointed with both. When our waiter came by, we were honest when he asked how everything was and told him the meats are really dry. We said we weren't sure if that's just how it is here or if they made a mistake in the kitchen. He took it back and brought it back to us shortly after. We were a little confused when we saw our platter, it looked like they just cut up all of our ribs and sauced everything more. After trying both meats, it was clear they just heated up the meat, maybe they just put it in a fryer, and they put extra sauce on each meat. While it was saucier, it didn't mask the fact that the meats were still incredibly dry. All in all, the service is slow, just as the reviews state. But the food too... eek. Definitely a little disappointing that the meats were served so dry and after giving them the opportunity to fix it, they essentially just put a bandaid over the issue by over saucing it. read more

Our family has had great experiences at Jasper's BBQ and in Big Bear, Jasper's is THE place to go for BBQ. A big part of our great experiences has been the service. The staff are friendly, cheerful, and attentive without being intrusive. A special shout-out to David who was phenomenal at our last visit. We placed our order to go, and David made sure our food was cooked just right and even checked in on us while we sat at the bar waiting for our food to be prepared. We were seated right away, took about 5 minutes for a server to come by but once our food and drink were in, they rocked it! I split the Jalapeño Mac burger with my granddaughter, chose garlic parm fries as our side ($2 upgrade), burger served on a pretzel bun, cooked to medium, the Mac and jalapeño worked nicely together, but I'm sorry, the fries were disappointing. Another of us ordered the buffalo wings and said they loved em, and yet another got the ribs, side of Mac, fries and drink. I ordered the West Coast IPA which was delicious. Three servers hustled and kept customers happy, supported by a kitchen that appeared to be super efficient and good at what they do. My husband has been on a really good barbecue kick and we had gone away for the weekend to big bear. We walked past this establishment. It's small but very cozy. He ordered the Nashville hot chicken sandwich and I ordered the pulled pork sandwich. We were both very satisfied with what we purchased. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. Honestly, I wasn't expecting much after reading some of the reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised! I ordered the pulled pork fries and they were good! There was a generous amount of meat on top, super tender, and the fries stayed nice and crispy even under all that pork, which I didn't expect. We also got ribs with onion rings, more pulled pork, and sweet potato fries. The ribs were bigger than we thought they'd be, and again, they didn't skimp on the pulled pork. The onion rings and sweet potato fries were solid too though I do wish the sweet potato fries were a bit less soggy, they still had good flavor. Service was great. Good bbq place conveniently located near where we were staying. Got the 2 item combo with brisket and pulled pork because I wanted brisket and my bf wanted the latter. I ended up liking the pulled pork more because the brisket was a little thick and on the dryer side than what I'm used to at other bbq places. For the 2 sides we got Mac and cheese with salad (ranch dressing.) the Mac and cheese was good, the ranch was a bit but noticeably watered down. Food was decent for quick and easy take out. This was some of the best barbecue I've had in a long time! While it was a bit unorganized when it came to getting a table, our service was pretty good. It's a smaller restaurant so keep that in mind if you're coming on a weekend, it can get pretty busy. My friends and I were walking around the village and as we turned a corner we were hit in the face with the best smelling BBQ! We all instantly got hungry. We walked in and was seated right away. We ordered our food and all I could think about was I really hoped that the food actually was as good as it smells. I'm from Louisiana so I'm pretty doubtful of most BBQ places in Cali. Boy, oh boy, did they live up to the smell! Everything was great! I ordered the Memphis melt with brisket and instead of fries I got friend pickles. The sandwhich was so ooey gooey with cheese and the brisket was so tender. I hate when you bite into a brisket sandwhich and the whole piece of brisket comes out or your sandwhich just falls apart. The fried pickles were very crispy, Just the way I like them! They served them with chipotle ranch. So freakinnnn good. My friend got the spicy mac sandwhich. Right when the waitress put it down on the table I was eyeing a little chunk of mac n cheese that fell out of the burger. I told my friend " ummm I'm taking this" . The Mac was so creamy! I have been wanting to try Jasper's forever and finally did. I wish I hadn't waited so long. It was delicious! I can't have gluten and they were knowledgeable and helpful. I had the barbecue bowl with shredded chicken and it was amazing! I added extra bbq sauce because it was so good and I could not get enough of it. I brought my own gluten-free bread (weird I know) and dipped it in the regular barbecue and spicy barbecue sauces. So. Darn. Good. The only drawback for me is that the fries are all battered/breaded. I come in once a week for the last couple years and she always has an issue with my brother and myself. Today she had two ponytails, black shirt, blue jeans, and glasses. The customer service was good, the food was not. The brisket was not smoked, and if it was it was a few days old. Brisket should fall apart to touch, it was tough and no flavor. I have seen some bad reviews for this place about the wait times and such. Let me preface this by saying we were hungry early (we skipped lunch) and we ate dinner around 5:30 PM. Fortunately it was pretty quick and we sat down in just about 10 minutes. The place is definitely SMALL and only has about ten tables. Try and get there during the off-peak times! Anyway, we ordered the 6-beer flight which was a sample of every type they had on tap. They were all pretty good, some of them were so good I took a pic to order some when we got home! For food we ordered two big plates, she got the pulled pork combo, and I got the brisket. The pork was delicious, juicy, and paired perfectly with the hot sauce and Tabasco BBQ sauce at the table. My brisket was AMAZING!! Perfectly seared, juicy, hot, and I would say it's probably the 2nd best brisket I've ever had!! (The best was Lewis BBQ in Charleston SC so this is a great praise!) All the side dishes were really good as well, the garlic mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, garlic parm fries, and fried pickles! All delicious! The aroma of the smokers drew us to this establishment. A menu full of options made it hard to choose just one thing. I chose to go with their mac n cheese topped with chopped brisket. This dish tasted like home cooked awesomeness. The mac n cheese was gooey and full of flavor. That, topped with chopped smoked brisket was a flavor explosion. Their staff were prompt when they took and delivered my order. The menu has a little bit of everything, and I'm only jealous I'm not a local to try more of it. We were walking around the main street and started feeling hungry from all the aroma going around. We just happened to stop right in front of this restaurant since it smelled really good at that time, so we decided to give this place a shot. The burger was smaller than expected, but the ingredients made it huge. I tried some of the burger first, I wish the mac and cheese was a bit cheesier because I actually didn't really notice it at first. The burger also wasn't spicy. Although, the onion rings that came with it were pretty huge. The overall burger was pretty difficult to eat, so I had my bf eat nearly the entire thing and he enjoyed this burger a lotttt. Next trying the loaded fries, they were actually my favorite! There were a lot of ingredients to this, and the pulled pork was actually pretty hefty! I've ordered their famous brisket with a choice of 2 sides, and a pulled pork burger with slaw. Brisket portion is pretty large and would be a great sharing plate. One of the worse experiences ever. It took over 70 minutes to get food after our order. 2 tables who sat down after our order got all their food before our table got all ours. We were ignored. Apparently they sent some of our food to the wrong table. Worse off they apologized to the other table before we even got a response. Once they figured out their mistake we got a low effort non apology apology, got half our food, which we didn't eat til all the food came out cuz that's poor manners.
