I met two of my friends here. We are still here. I was aggressively greeted at the door by a very rude waitress. I was literally putting on my ask as she bellowed, please put your mask on. I smiled and said yeah that is what I am doing. The bartender also extremely rude and not customer friendly in any way continued with the worst experience I have had at any of the X-Group properties. Then the same rude waitress again, overly aggressive told us that if we get up from the table we would need to wear a mask. I replied that the bartender had already explained the rules and we understood.She gave me another rude comment and then walked away! I have been coming here for 35 years. I have spent a or of time and money at all of the X-Group locations and have always been treated well. Anyway I will not let one bad experience stop me from returning. The Ownership group are professional and really care about their customers. I'm sure when I see them and tell them how we were treated, they will make it right. I have been coming here fairly regularly for the last 3 years, and every single time, I find myself getting the Backdraft BBQ pulled Pork sandwich, with extra bbq sauce. Great looking menu. I tried the French onion soup and beef dip. I was a little disappointed with the beef dip but not sure if it was the bread or the dip. The soup was great. My wife said the burger on a gluten free bun was great. There are a bunch of items on the menu that I'm looking forward to trying. Our service was very good too. This is a very reliable spot. Been eating here for over a decade. I've never once been disappointed in the food. Including today when we had breakfast here for the first time. Nothing but yum. Always plenty of seating and the music isn't too loud. Servers are very nice albeit a bit slow and sometimes the tables smell like dirty wash rags. Both of those issues are managerial issues so the staff shouldn't be penalized for that. I've even held events here in their upstairs space. Love this neighborhood place. Great Tacoma vibe. Awesome food. Tons on tap. My faves are the My Mommas Meatloaf sandwich (amazing!!) & the Mushroom & Gorgonzola burger. Great breakfast on the weekends. Other breaky faves are the Country Scramble & the Sourdough Pancake Breakfast. I these pancakes but I know they're not high on everyone's list but if you do like them, at E9 they are ssooooo good. Don't miss the GIGANTIC Julia's Awesome Cinnamon Roll (as big as a takeout box no lie) but get it early because we've missed out a few times on Sunday. And if you're down for dessert, Julia's Carrot Cake is it! Julia-whoever you are, you're killin' it! Only a few downsides. I really wish they had cold brew coffee here. That's my breakfast go-to. It starts to get packed around 10am on the weekends so come early or be prepared to wait a little for breakfast. Parking can be tricky at busy times. read more

I want to say above everything that, our server, Logan, was great, and that the beers here are awesome. BUT the food was not worth the price tag. We got calamari that is like 12 bucks and it was maybe 6 pieces. They're a little bigger than most but blandly breaded and sitting atop the most boring cole slaw that maybe was only tossed in water? Then the bison burger was almost 17 dollars. It was cooked to oblivion. Super dry and again, bland. It's really disappointing to pay that amount of money for food that doesn't seem to have much thought or care put into it. I just don't understand how you can charge that much for food that is just okay. I would send people here for beers but would recommend not staying for food. read more

Not only is the atmosphere very cool being that it was an old working firehouse complete with horses to pull the fire cart, but the food is delicious!!! It's festive and different being in an old fire engine house filled with interesting memorabilia and antiques, which makes this place fun to check out. We've mostly been here for breakfast or brunch which tends to be consistently good. (I've tried the eggs Benedict twice which aren't great though.) Another plus for them on the weekends they tend to have room so if you're not into standing in line for 30-60 minutes at the breakfast spots on 6th this is a good option. One of our favorite aspects of this restaurant is the decent sized patio area out front that you can bring your dog to and eat. I was slightly hesitant to try this place out after seeing some bad reviews and the ~3.5 star average rating, but this place is definitely underrated. To start, the historical aspect of the restaurant's building is awesome! While the building has been restored since it's original use of a early 1900s firehouse, there is still so much character left. The previous/current owners have done a great job of keeping the place up to date without sacrificing its original beauty. On top of that, the food was awesome! I was super pleased with the barbecue pork sandwich! As a self-proclaimed BBQ snob since growing up in Kentucky, it's been hard to find a pulled pork sandwich that satisfies my cravings. While the sandwich could have benefited from a little more sauce, it was still a good reminder of home. But I was completely blown away by their fries! They were the perfect amount of crisp and salty that has me dreaming about my next fries basket. Last but not elite, the beer/drink selection was phenomenal! I was personally super impressed with their own IPA and ended up ordering an entire pitcher to split with my boyfriend (approximately 6 glasses per pitcher) for only $17 (hint: about $2.80 per glass). Pros: once our food was reheated it was pretty good. That's it. Our waitress should get a zero but 1 star was the only choice. My husband came here Sunday around 1130 for brunch with our son(almost 2). It looked a little busy but not too bad so we sat in the side area where it's a little more kid friendly. A waitress came over and she immediately seemed annoyed with us. Within 5 minutes she brought us a menu and asked us what we wanted to drink. Water came and she walked away so we had to get her attention to order right away(two year olds..). She takes it and 40 minutes go on with one water fill up. At this point we've given our son so many snacks, the pancake we ordered would be pointless. We had to ask for our food to go, in which both our waitress and the cook look very irritated. We still waited another 10 minutes for our food and the bill. We drove home(5 minutes) and had to reheat our food because it was cold. We expected it to take a while but not 50 minutes then get cold food. read more

Poor service. Staff is not friendly. Not recommended. Arrived and was seated. For a good 30 minutes not once did any of the staff or waitresses came to serve us. Not even to acknowledge us. Yes, the place was busy but not all of the tables were filled. At least acknowledge us. Came in with my buddies. We were dressed appropriately but I guess that wasn't enough to get any attention of the staff. Not even with the white of our palms faced up to grab the attention of the staff to be served wasn't enough. I was looking forward to checking out their sour beers that they have on tap but I guess they are not interested in my business. They must be doing really well to ignore certain customers. Ever heard of making a good first impression? Ever heard of the man going into a job interview but he's running late to his job interview so he cuts off the other car in the parking lot that was waiting for the same spot before him. Then swears at the other person for honking at him only to find out that the person he cut off and curses in the parking lot was the same man doing his job interview. Not a good first impression. E9 had 3 opportunities to make a good impression with my 2 other buddies and myself. They failed miserably.
