Best chinese in the County. Weekday lunches are a bargain for the quality. My usual - beef fried rice which is an entree by itself, and I always have leftovers to bring home for dinner. The egg roll comes pre-dipped in sweet sour sauce. Most people find that convenient (and I imagine keeps waste at bay). But if you want to control the amount of sweet stuff, let the wait staff know to put the eggroll sauce on the side when you order. Or skip that sauce, the veggies in the eggroll tastes much better without it. It's Salinas - veggies are fresh no matter where you go in town! My son always orders Crispy Duck, which is a bargain at lunch prices. I can't resist that too so I just steal some from his plate :-) My hubby whose palate leans more american than asian loves basil chicken, which I have to admit is quite sumptuous, even for me. But first, before you order, you must take note of the specials on the neon chalkboard as you walk in (it's on the right just above the cash register). This is how they offer one or two dishes using special ingredients at very reasoable prices. I love trying out their salmon specials and, of course, when my true favorite special - barbecued lamb chops - shows up on the board, I get that instead of my usual beef fried rice. BTW - My hubby and son, who opts for spicy stuff when they can, always gets their hot and sour soup with their entrees. But you have to try their egg flower soup which really is chicken and veggies in good stock with egg dropped in. Not like those boiled corn starch concoctions you get in other chinese places. Eagle really does this one right - it reminds me of a "poor man's" bird's nest soup and much more environmentally friendly! read more

Although food is great, customer service failed this time. Cashier left customers waiting for about 5-10 minutes at checkout area and once customers called for help to pay since no one was attending the cashier or on the floor, the cashier came rushing and let clients know he was almost there all while mumbling under his breath. Once at check out, the cashier made rude comments about payment options since clients wanted to split the bill. Once the clients signed their receipts, he called customers cheap after not getting the tip amount he wanted. Customers apologized and asked if he had a policy around a certain percentage given they had given at least 20%. Wow, this place was amazing. Definitely one of the best Chinese restaurants I've been to. The Hunan Chicken with spicy garlic sauce was great, and all the vegetables were so fresh and cooked perfectly, that even I ate them, and I don't normally deviate from my carnivorous diet like that. Despite its unusual appearance and ambiance, not to mention unconventional name, Eagle is by far one of the best Chinese food places I've been too, hands down. It is the epitome of "hole-in-the-wall" joints. It's a bit on the pricey side, but well worth it. Everything was authentic and SENSATIONAL. The kitchen was fast, making our hungry tummies happy. The staff was friendly and moved with a sense of urgency. The walnut shrimp and Mongolian chicken are must. I would recommend this place ten fold and wish I could have one in San Diego. Eagle restaurant offers superb flavor and fantastic value. I've eaten there at least 2 dozen times and I return at any chance I get. The staff is very friendly and will make accommodations on just about anything on the menu if you ask. If the tea is not strong enough just ask and they'll toss in another tea bag. Very quick to clean plates from the table and to bring new dishes over as they are cooked. We usually get the family dinner B. Chow mein is awesome. orange chicken can get a little spicy. Best to order it medium. vegetable fried rice usually subbed for combo fried rice and I must say this one dish varies the most. It's not always as good as the rest of the food. Vegetable egg rolls and wonton soup are both excellent everytime. If you a vegetarian then Eagle is a great choice. They have many options including tofu, eggplant and noodle dishes. Also you can specify to the waitstaff if you don't want egg or any other dietary restrictions. Eagle restaurant gives huge portions of delicious food and the service can't be beat. Good food, very reasonable prices, casual service which is attentive without being in your face. Ingredients always fresh, veggies crunch, excellent hot & sour soup. The guys who work there are friendly in a relaxed way, say hello to regular customers, pay attention to any special requests you may have. The lunch specials are generous without being overwhelming and the prices are moderate. For my taste, their spicy dishes tend to run a little hot, so I usually ask them to mild them down a notch for me. Your mileage may vary. Note that this is a very casual place, IMO more of a great local lunch spot than somewhere I'd choose to go for, say, a dress up date. It has a hole-in-the-wall quality which appeals to me greatly, but may not be what you're looking for if you're hoping for something upscale. I very much like the part of town nearby: the older, 1930s art deco neighborhood downtown south of the Steinbeck Center. It's far my favorite of the local lunch spots there, and it's just around the corner from the movie theater and a very friendly local coffee house. Recommended. read more

I've been going to Eagle about once a month or so for at least 5 years now...every time it's great. The employees are friendly, helpful, and you'll always find your glass never empty and your teapot never dry, yet they're never pushy or over-talkative, which is nice (to me). The vegetarian options are always great - my favorites are the fresh spring rolls, salt and pepper tofu/eggplant, "double green" (green beans and asparagus in a black bean sauce), and of course their delicious hot and sour soup (which they will do with or w/o egg)! Also they have really good brown rice here. Everything always smells and tastes so fresh here. Service is always nice, and the food always comes out hot & fresh & the staff is very friendly. Everything you would expect plus a little bit more. There's the added bennie of being next to the King's Den and if you time it right, you can order your food, let the family get started conversating and then go outside to make a phone call, or use the restroom, and then help yourself to a wonderful Stoli Bloody Mary which pairs extremely well with Fried Tofu. Ok I read the reviews and decided there seem to be more good then bad so I ordered. I called in a to go order they said 20 minuets well we got there and were asked to have a seat. So I think it was prepared while we waited. Well that wasn't to bad because we were not in a hurry but we sat there at least 20 minuets. This place seems to be a Salinas institution, and fills up quickly with office workers at lunch. The blink-and-you'll-miss-it storefront actually opens up into a large dining room, but the bathrooms are shared with the saloon next door, which is kinda odd... Their lunch menu is more extensive than most, as each dish (sauce) can be prepared with beef, chicken, pork, shrimp, or tofu. All options cost the same. I'd had orange chicken before, and opted for the orange tofu as I thought that it sounded interesting. It wasn't. This dish didn't work at all. The sauce caused the tofu to stick to the plate, which made the meal almost surreal... The service can be rushed, but the men running the show seem to know all of their regulars. Best Chinese in town indeed, I use to go to dynasty court and loved it, but they changed chefs, so its not as good anymore. But if you do go to eagle, you have to try the dragon phoenix, its really good..it has eggplant, chicken, basil and is in a nice sweet sauce. Other recommendations would be the triple mongolian and the walnut shrimp. There hasn't been anything that i have ordered that i hated, everything turns out pretty well. My favorite Chinese spot in Salinas, it's very clean, fast and affordable. Love that they have brown rice. Chicken actually looks and tastes like chicken and no fat or mystery meat. Expensive but hey it's being delivered so no biggie. They told me it would be 40min-1hour, I understood that wait time because I live off River road. Well at 6:05 no sign of my order so I figure they were just running behind. 6:30 still no sign of food so I call, I was told the driver had just left and I was the FIRST drop. Okay no biggie they must be busy! 7:00, No Food... hmmm?!?! So at 7:30 I call again and am told that my home was too far away and that they called me to tell me that. I NEVER received a call, actually I was lied to and told my food was on the way. HORRIBLE SERVICE and a WASTE of TIME. This thing is like the hidden gem of Salinas, I lived there for 6 years and I've lived in the Bay Area and traveled pretty well and this is some of the best Chinese food around. I give it 5 stars because it's in Salinas, Frisco or Sacramento would make it 4 stars simply because of the competition. The owners are very nice and the food is very very good. I love to order the Spicy Chicken chow mein, it's not on the menu, but they'll do it. I also love the triple mongolian. They remodeled it a few months back and it looks a lot better. Last time we ordered 3 dishes and they were all way too salty. Going to chalk it up to an off-night there and try it one more time. Love the combo, though vegi is good too Sizzling rice soup: my boss got it, she is one of the pickiest eaters on the planet and loves it Pho/Vietnamese soup: my coworker got it and loved it, had it for lunch and dinner and had to fend her kids off from stealing it. Service: I have only ordered for pickup during lunch hours, and only soups, but they remembered my name (good computer system), and had the food ready fast.
