we are visiting Alaska from Colorado and needed to have our brake pads changed because a different shop told us they'd need to be changed soon. we are traveling in our 2013 Tundra with two large dogs so we were very nervous about being without our house on wheels for the night. we dropped the truck off at 1:30 and got called back at 3:30. Jeremy told us that wasn't the case and showed us how good the brake pads were still and explained where the noise we had heard was coming from. On June 3rd I brought my 2011 Chrysler Town & Country van in to have it checked out before driving it back to Ohio. They replaced the tires and a wheel bearing, and checked out all the systems and fluids. The staff was thoroughly professional and did solid work. I had been taking my truck to them for oil changes. Every time I took it in they would call me to tell me this needed fixed or that needed replaced. The last time I took it to them I told them I was aware that the hoses needed replaced and the shocks were leaking. They then called me to tell me the mechanic noticed that there was a lot of play in my front tires. He offered to fix it for $1100. He said the wheels would eventually come off if I didn't get them fixed. My truck is 7 years old. No other automotive repair shop has ever mentioned this before. I walked in for my first time, and they were able to accomodate my appointment right on the spot! The entire staff was polite, professional, and very couteous. They changed my oil and replaced my A/C Blower & Resistor Pack and charged me about $100 less than I was quoted researching it online. While I was there, I was also able to get information on a good local vehicle detailing service and towing/lockout service. No price gouging, and no shady practices were observed. Pad the hours worked, use cheap parts, bad mechanics. -They charged me two hours of work even though I could prove through time stamps on my phone that my car was worked on for only one hour (called me that they were just now getting it into the shop and less than a full hour later called me that it was finished). - Every part they have used in my car fails in less than two years. -Told my wife that her car was now obsolete and that they could not find parts anywhere even after "calling around". It took me less than 30 minutes to find the parts myself. Talking to a different repair place about it they said that there is no way the car is obsolete and that parts are everywhere. Just bad, lazy mechanics. Avoid them at all costs. There are numerous better, more honest auto repair places. read more

I had a brake replacement done. Additionally, they removed corrosion from my battery, meaning it had been disconnected at some point. When I got my car back, the radio was all messed up. They didn't have my vehicle connected to a secondary power source when they disconnected the battery I assume. They wouldn't fix it or reimburse me because I couldn't "prove" it was them. Had to pay $300 at Anchorage Remote Start and Sound (great place) to get a new radio. Broke my radio and didn't own up to it. Looking at the rest of the reviews now, it doesn't surprise me. This is the only place that I will take my vehicles to. The customer service is one of the best I've ever seen. Toddi and Bruce are amazing to work with and answer your questions or get back quickly with the answer. I've never met the owner but when there was a complication during suspension work with my car he authorized a discount to help with an unexpected issue. They explain everything in detail and go over the warranties. I even had a bad cluster on my truck (parking brake light stays on) that they didn't recommend replacing due to the cost and that it didn't have an adverse affect on it's safety and performance. read more

I had what I assumed was a minor battery problem, after no luck replacing the battery myself I towed my Toyota into This crappy excuse for a car repair business to end up paying for 2 unnecessary tows and multiple inspections. Worst. Can't diagnose or repair anything. Have Brought our motor home back for the same repair 3 times. It is a repair they caused. We have been charged every time we brought it back. I verified this when I bought them and also called back to double check the parts are BWD parts. I really like using the local Eagle River businesses and they truly did have good costumer service just feel like that process needs to be fixed. We received above board service from Eagle River Automotive. Got a correct diagnosis and a starter motor replaced at fair market price. Left a cell AND landline; they were careful to leave messages on both phone numbers, and when we checked back, they gave us the straight scoop on our car. ERauto also gave us a good summary of future potential issues down the line, in case we wanted to prepare: Eg. A reasonable estimate of brake pad life left, spotting some minor oil leak sources (which I was aware of), etc. There was minor seepage indicating some shock absorber wear, and with all this, NO "selling push" to replace or repair anything that we weren't ready yet to authorize. They have an organized shop and plenty of business; there would be no incentive just to pad prices. IMHO, they will get your vehicle performing better as best they can, trying to do what you want (and not more); just be clear and honest with them and be aware of industry standard repair rates and parts cost. I got the strong impression that they work towards being careful and ethical in their customer relations. True, "stuff happens" with vehicles. You can be an "automotive repair saint", and yet in any part of the country, you always get a backwash of bitter angry people whose repair was a challenge, or they're just plain torqued that the VIN # that they happen to be driving caused them some mechanical frustrations & costs... and who else to blame but the ones who try to keep things working plus keep a business around & viable? We are most likely just one of MANY customers who were treated well by Eagle River Auto, so when the time comes, they will receive business on our two other vehicles. Had vehicle towed to shop for troubleshooting cause of problem with instrument cluster. Battery was fine when picked up by tow truck. Well to make a long story short, overall the whole ordeal was not very impressive. The instrument cluster was on "national backorder" & took longer then normal to get the part. Not a single word was told to me at all. Also when the vehicle was done, I was out of town & had told the shop that I was leaving town for 20 days. When the vehicle was finally done, I called from Seattle to pay the bill & was told that they don't take credit card payments over the phone. The lady further went on to say that it was posted all over the office. Upon going into the office today, the only place it was posted was behind the front counter in one place. Didn't live up to its statement. Then the aftermarket remote start unit wouldn't function so had to go get that fixed/ reprogrammed. Cost, 45.00 dollars. Then called Eagle River Auto & advised the lady & she didn't believe that we got charged. Asked her what the process was to get reimbursed for that. Was told she would have to call the owner's on vacation & get an answer. She called back about an hour later & started giving me a tap dance on how she talked to MGM Truck & he stated that a low remote battery or vehicle battery could cause the problem. Earlier he stated that if they flashed the module, that would cause it. She stated that they/ Eagle River Auto had to change the battery to troubleshoot. But the battery was fine when it left on the rollback truck. Needless to say, we got screwed from this shop & won't be going back for any further work/repairs & will give more then enough free advertising. Would recommend this shop as they aren't straight up or to say the least, honest or forthcoming. Not a shop to go to unless you want the short end of the deal. Reason for the very low rating. My car stayed there all day. I stayed home from work as they were "working" on my car. They refused to work on it, because of an ignorant owner's policy regarding tire sizes. (newsflash, cars can come from the factory with different size rims based on trim level) They called me at the end of the day saying that my work was done and I could come and pick up my car. They never touched it and wasted my whole day. They could have told me earlier in the day that they have no intention on working on my car and allowed me time to get my car in somewhere else. they could have easily looked up the rim size information on the Audi website which I showed them. it took all of 5 minutes on my phone to prove that the rims in that size WERE an option and would fit the car. They were very unapologetic about wasting my time. I will never go there again very unprofessional. I took my car to the quick lube and they completed my changeover in 1 hour and ended up costing less. read more

In response to the Eagle River Automotive business owner who questioned my review: I towed my vehicle to the shop and had to pay for "special parts" to be shipped from the east coast which were 4 times more than any other mechanic shop and readily available in Anchorage (after doing my homework which I should have done before bringing my vehicle to the shop), and had to wait almost a MONTH to get my vehicle fixed even after reporting it was my only vehicle for my family. I had to call the shop once a week - which I thought was reasonable but only received ONE phone call which was the initial response to the diagnostic review. I asked what the tracking number was for the parts so I could see and realize where the problem was with the wait for shipping. It was reported to me there is no shipping track for the parts. I was also told since the parts were special order they would keep the money for the parts and charge me for diagnostics but I could take my vehicle elsewhere for repair. When I received my vehicle, the tires were off balance (which was not the case before I brought it in). I took them back to get them balanced and was told the wheels cannot be balanced because the "frame is bent". I took my car to a different mechanic and they properly and quickly balanced my tires and also told me there is no bend in the frame. I still had problems with the parts that were supposed to be fixed but I REFUSE to bring my vehicle back to ER Automotive due to the bad experience I had. I had to pay to fix something on my car which was a result from bringing it to Eagle River Automotive, hence "leaving the shop with more problems than I came in with" and "poor communication". Also, after further research I found Eagle River Automotive checks for reviews online and is very critical of any negative response, questioning everything anyone says. Lots of poor reviews - the business should take these reviews to heart instead of denying them and work on a better environment for customers instead. read more
