Sushi Nine has been one of our longtime go-to spots for years, and we get takeout from here every couple of weeks. The biggest draw is the value. It's easily the best sushi deal in Raleigh. Sushi is always BOGO, and that applies to takeout as well, not just dine-in, which is huge. Because of that, it's hard to beat when you want sushi without paying premium prices. The quality is good but not high-end, and Sushi Nine definitely isn't trying to be a luxury sushi experience. We've had minor issues in the past, but nothing that's ever stopped us from coming back. A few of my work friends chose this place for lunch. We visited during the lunch rush, but surprisingly, it wasn't busy at all. The restaurant wanted our entire group to arrive before seating us, which I didn't quite understand. The service was extremely slow. I'm generally a very patient person, but this visit definitely tested that patience. Everything took a long time really, really long. That said, the food was worth mentioning. I ordered the basil tofu, and I absolutely loved it. The sauce was flavorful and perfectly spiced. I also appreciated that the green beans were cut into smaller pieces rather than served whole, which made the dish easier to enjoy. My friends ordered dumplings and noodle dishes, and everything looked equally delicious. I also enjoyed the salad with the ginger dressing. There are a lot of rolls to choose from asking with other menu items besides sushi. The tom kha soup was amazing and you can pick the level of spiciness as well. They have a parking lot that was full so you have to wait until a space frees up to park so of you are coming with people or to meet best to ride together. Parking is free though. They have a huge dining area so that wasn't too full. There's also a regular bar and a sushi bar to sit at. They have drink specials and many cocktails to choose from. First time we visited, it was inside. The restaurant was beautiful, lighting was just right and the vibe is chill. Now the food, the calamari was dry, spongy and wasn't good. The pad Thai was dry, no lime, nothing Thai about it. The noodles were like lo mein noodles. Fried rice tasted like rice, no flavor. The sushi was the best thing. My sushi was absolutely amazing. This was by far the best sushi I've ever had. I had the shrimp tempura (deep fried) burrito roll. It was so fresh, flavorful and deep fried to perfection. It was sinfully delicious and crunchy. I also had the lobster tempura roll and that was delicious too. The service was top tier everyone was so friendly and sweet. The waiters periodically check on you and ask if you like it and if there's something else they can do. She also offered me several different sauces to try with it. It was the best service I've had in a while. As soon as I asked what's this burrito roll I keep seeing all over TikTok. The waiter came from behind the counter and sat next and explained it in detail. I told her this place is going viral on TikTok b/c of this deep fried burrito roll. I really like this place and when I'm in Raleigh visiting my kids in college we always eat here. I've never had a bad experience or a bad dish. The servers are always great. The bathrooms are clean. Parking is hit or miss. I'm taking off a star for two things that we talked about as a group last time. We had a party of ten arriving in 5 different cars. It was raining. The lot was full so some from our party were dropped off while others found parking. The place wasn't as full as it usually is but the lot was full. The hostess refused to sit the six of us until we were all there. I'm not sure why restaurants have policies like this but they seem ridiculous especially given the reason why we were waiting. I had my elderly parents with us one of which has mobility issues. Having to make them move twice was unnecessary. The second reason I removed a star was the noise level. It was so loud in there. It's always loud because it's usually busy. They actually turned up the music while we were there. Made it really hard to have conversations at the long table. read more

The combination of Thai, Chinese, sushi, and hibachi; everyone's preference can be found. After only landing in Raleigh an hour prior on a Saturday night , we found ourselves in a packed restaurant. There was hardly a wait but the people waiting were excited to get a table and dine in. The wait staff were extremely friendly, eager to assist with any questions or requests. For our entrees, we got many of the specialties from the menu. The pineapple duck curry had a rich and creamy curry with cooked bell peppers, pineapple, carrots, and garnished with Thai basil. The sliced roast duck was tender, having the fat rendered, made for a crispy skin, creating a perfect bite with steamed white rice. The orange duck was an excellent upgrade of the popular orange chicken, utilizing the dark meat of duck to hold more flavor from the sweet and tangy sauce. The duck was lightly fried but the meat remained succulent and moist. Served with broccoli and steamed white rice, this was a great choice. For a more adventurous option, I recommend the Thai basil with fried tilapia. The fish is deboned and fried whole, giving large chunks of fish that are enhanced with the Thai basil sauce. The sauce is made with Thai chili peppers, garlic, onions, green beans, and pulled together with crisp Thai basil leaves. There was no fishy taste and the sauce had spicy and savory flavors. We took advantage of the BOGO on sushi rolls which is an everyday special. The Hiramasa roll had yellowtail, tempura flakes to add a crunch, and a wasabi cream that gave it some heat. The other roll was the firecracker roll, which had large slices of crispy shrimp tempura in the middle accompanied by cucumber and avocado. On top was spicy fatty tuna with spicy mayo and masago, which offered a salty, mild smoky flavor. For dessert we split the mango with sticky rice, a must try. The warm rice was expertly coated in a rich coconut sauce thickened with tapioca starch. The sweetness from the freshly sliced mangos brought me back to visits with family from my childhood. I love Sushi Nine, it's a great casual and inexpensive sushi place with BOGO rolls. Something to keep in mind though, it's loud inside, it gets really busy during peak hours, it's filled with students; so don't expect fine dining experience here. Parking lot is small. They get LOTS of takeout orders so there's constant in-and-out traffic. Oh and you can't waitlist unless you're physically in the building (which is annoying). That said despite all this I like the place. I've only had one bad experience with service, most times it's good. One of my favorite appetizers is tempura veggies, it comes with delicious tempura sauce and I'm just obsessed with it. Crab wontons and fried calamari are my second runners. There's also tempura veggies and shrimp, they add 3 shrimps for $5 extra which personally I don't think it's worth it, I always get just the veggies. Tom Ka soup is delicious, creamy with lemongrass notes, just yum! Rolls are all nice, I probably tried entire menu at this point! Not a huge fan of deep fried ones. Took a trip to Sushi Nine for the (4th?) time now and finally ordered a different dish. First, I got miso soup which was good but could have been a bit saltier (what can I say, I do love saltier foods). My boyfriend got two rolls- the TNT roll and the Flaming salmon roll. In his words, it was a "10/10!" I ordered the sesame chicken with white rice and it was good! I would rate it a 7/10. It wasn't super groundbreaking, but the flavor was still good. It was pretty filling and I am taking home enough leftovers for another meal. The gyoza was also very good. I think the gyoza was my favorite part of my meal! It was nice and crisp and the sauce was tasty. Apart from the food, the service was good. I wasn't given a refill at all though (luckily I finished my food at the same time as I finished my drink so it ended up working out, but in the event I wanted to keep eating, I would need a refill). The wait staff were all super super helpful, kind, and accommodating! I have nothing bad to say on their service at all. As for the overall vibe of the restaurant, the playlist was super fun and upbeat and almost all songs that I listen to on a daily basis which was super awesome. All in all, I did have a good experience at Sushi Nine, but I think a few things could be a bit better!
