VCA Orange Animal Hospital has been taking care of Kogi since she was a puppy. She is now a 16 year old super senior. We recently had to evacuate our home because of the chemical plant incident in Garden Grove. We dropped off Kogi for boarding since we were staying in a hotel. We didn't know how long we had to be out of our house and when I called to extend Kogi's boarding, I was informed that VCA was going to cover the cost. I've been here twice under terrible circumstances and both times the office staff has been amazing! They're so compassionate and caring. I brought my tortoise who's shell had been cracked from a dog attack and Dr Lee was able to patch her right up perfectly! Dr Lee can come off a bit dry but I promise she's an amazing vet. I also had to put my dog Gary down yesterday and I felt so supported and understood the whole time. Dr Kelsey Reams and Dani made sure he passed peacefully. They allowed me to go at my own pace and went out of their way to shave some of his hair and take a paw print as a keepsake. The front desk worker Ali gave me a hug because she saw I was struggling. Parrot Stanley: Skin rash, examination by Dr Grove was thorough because I waited, workers let me know Stanley was acting like Stanley, not co-operative, so they reset the examination 3x until my parrot accepted the toy and allowed treatment. Went okay, got the dianogsis, provided a referral if I wanted to pursue a bird specialist. Changed diet & moved his perch to another room, things got better. Lab Mellow: Due to my partner not spaying our 6 year old, Mellow's internal organ twisted on itself and caused major problems. Surgery was done and long road to recovery. Dr Lee was initial exam vet when we started using this hospital in 2020, when Mellow developed what Dr Lee foresaw, we went for 2nd opinion at Banfield, returned back to Orange Vet Hospital because there was attention and education we felt comfortable with. Surgery performed and Mellow lives on. Wait times can be 6/10 but it's all the same at these places. When we see the tech or vet, it's professional and accommodating. The doctors here are so inflexible. I'm so sad that the Tri City VCA shut down, because this location could not be more of a let down. We're struggling, trying to save money, and take care of our pups. I asked to buy 6 months worth of flea treatment, 3 for each dog, but as 1 whole box so I could receive the $15.00 rebate the company offers when you buy 6. Both of my dogs are within the same weight limits, and require the same dosage. They refused and said they can only sell 3 per each dog, because they have a heart worm test in October. I'm someone who takes my dog in for every exam, every vaccination, every annual test. But it felt like they were wielding their power just because they like the word NO. All I need it the receipt to say I bought one 6month pack, not two 3months. Nowadays every dollar counts. $15 is a lot when you're living paycheck to paycheck. I'm gonna be looking for a family owned vet that still has a heart and cares about its animals AND their owners. Avoid this place unless you want to be held hostage by your vet because you love your animal. read more

We've been going to VCA Orange for a few years now but recently had the pleasure of having Dr. Reames examine our 110lb baby labordore Rex. What an amazing experience to see Dr Reames enjoy our dog as much as we do. She immediately bonded with him making the exam easy, friendly, and trusted. We were so pleasantly surprised at how patient and informative she was. We will definitely continue our dog's needs with VCA as our Rex has found a new friend who is willing and able to handle his energy level during exams. Staff is nice when you're there but don't expect help when you don't have an appointment. You can't even get a written prescription in a day with them. Called when they opened, then called again 4 hours later and was told you could get it at the end of day when I needed it that day. End of day came and never received my dogs written prescription. Seems like people that actually cared about your pet would want to get you the things they need when they need them. Also never buy their monthly service. It only works at the vet you got it at even though VCA is a chain. And they never tell you that till you try and go to a different VCA. This place just advertises as free to get you in the door then once you're in the door if you don't follow their strict appointment protocol they turn you away. It could be your second time, third time they will turn you away with your pet at the door if you make an appointment for your animal and have someone else like a significant other show up with said pet, or you're 10 mins late due to pet being too sick to get in car, they will turn you away. Nikki was so helpful and was able to get me in on Wednesday for neuter, chip and surgery on an ear hematoma. Dr. Lee explained everything thoroughly and did an amazing job with our French bulldog, Walter. You could tell she is very passionate about what she does and loves your animals like her own. Thank you so much doctor for taking such sweet care of Walter! The vet tech went over everything with me. I was so overwhelmed at the financial burden this was bringing on, but with the techs expertise and suggestions I was able to focus on what was needed and what could wait. You are truly a blessing! VCA did offer a membership program that I couldn't believe how much it covered. It covered the exam, bloodwork, prescription, neuter and chip for 88 dollars a month! This was a huge relief! Total lack of Professionalism ,Integrity and Accountability This 1 star review is added to the already 50 1 star current reviews on Yelp of Dr Lee and VCA Orange. Was referred to Dr Lee for a consultation for my bull dogs cherry eye from my vet. In the consultation she assured she has done lots of them and he was a good candidate for the surgery. After the surgery his eye remained swollen for an extend time forcing him to wear the cone for almost a month- twice the normal recovery time. I expressed my concern, and she explained every dog reacts differently and eventually the swelling went back to normal. 10 weeks later the surgery failed and the cherry eye resurfaced. I know this is a possibility of this surgery and was very aware that it could resurface. It's how Dr Lee handled it which was shocking. In her examination after the surgery failure she proceeds to tell me because he is an allergic dog that he "self Inflicted " by scratching at his eye" and that's why the it re-appeared . No offer to redo the surgery as NOW he is not a good candidate for this procedure. I explained to her he is with me all day and I have never seen him scratch his eye . She continued and on about his paws, ears and eye were irritated and he has allergies. Also as a note she examined him two months after the Cherry Eye resurfaced and has no idea what his condition was two month previously as his last exam with her he showed no signs of allergies . She was adamant the surgery was successful and he caused the failure. . If this is the case (which I do not believe is)Why as a professional Veterinarian would she never ask if my dog every has periods of scratching from allergies in the pre-surgery consultation to see if he would be a good candidate .I will tell you why....I since have consulted with an eye surgeon and in their words an allergic dog is not an issue. It is a convenient explanation of why the surgery failed . Could it be that the surgery just failed with your procedure. (Of course, it could) Which I know can happen and the procedure that was done just did not work. I still would not have been happy about the outcome and this review would have not been posted. I hate writing negative reviews but due to their negligence my dog has passed away. They gave me a prescription refill that had the wrong dosage inside (the label was correct but the pills inside were different). I was told the pills had nothing to do with her passing but I don't believe them since she was fine before she got such a high dose of medication! I had to call poison control, take her to a 24 hr emergency vet to be monitored overnight, then i brought her here to be monitored for the day (where she ended up being put on oxygen due to breathing issues), they told me to take her to a 24hr vet again for monitoring over night but she passed away as i was driving there. Like most of the other reviews claim they are also on the expensive side. I brought my other dog in a few months ago because her paw pad was a little swollen and it ended up being over $600 because they ran tests, gave a couple shots, and some wipes...while i know you can decline whatever you want on the estimate it seems they always try to add a bunch of unnecessary things. read more

Scam artists. As others have noted over and over again, Dr. Lee is cold, rude and must work off commission based on my experience. My dog has had seasonal allergies resulting in hot spots every single spring. I know exactly what it takes to treat it every year. Unfortunately our regular vet wasn't available so I came here. I explained our typical experience with hot spots, looking for an allergy shot. After Dr. Lee's 20 second examination of my dog (she literally didn't even bend over to look, just glanced over), she decided to prescribe: an antibiotic, an anti inflammatory, 3 different types of supplements and vitamins, a shampoo, conditioner, wipes and 2 other unknown things. Plus the allergy shot which was the only thing I needed. This was over $1k - all she decided was necessary after a 20 second exam. Luckily we've had experience with this in the past and declined everything except the shot but WOW at least pretend you're interested in the dogs wellbeing and not just collecting as much money as possible. Can't believe Dr. Lee even has a job after reading all these reviews combined with my experience. It is so obvious when vets have a true desire to help and love for animals, and after this experience it's equally obvious when they do not. Stay far away from this place. read more

Going to the vet with my terrified pit bull is my actual nightmare. My dog is so scared of the vet she growls and barks and it can be so difficult and embarrassing. My experience here was amazing because Dr. Melinda Grove. She was so awesome and she treated my dog with so much patience. She took her time to explain things to me so I could understand and she allowed my dog the space and time to warm up to her and even take treats right out of her palm. I never once felt that I was bugging her with my questions and she really allowed me to not feel so embarrassed by my dogs fear aggression. I'm extremely thankful that Veterinarians like this exist. I left the hospital that day very thrilled to have had this experience, it gave me hope that I will be able to actually take my pet in for general wellness check ups . This place is horrible. The nurse was nice but the lady at the front desk, you can just hear her shit talking from the check room. The fact that they take your pet away for the exam is ridiculous, I call bullshit on it being a Covid thing because the nurse & doctor were both standing close to me when talking. Taking my pet out of the carrier changes nothing. I could hear her screams from where I was required to wait. As others have mentioned, Dr Lee is a money hungry person, doesn't care about the pets. Ridiculously unnecessary charges. I know my facts so my bill got taken down from $900 to around $150. Also, I get Covid caused shortages but we had an appointment. It shouldn't take over an hour when you literally have an appointment. Lastly, they couldn't give a straight honest answer to safe their life. They will lie to upcharge. I asked what was required for a specific form and they lied, I researched. Edit to add: business replied saying this review is non representative, which is a clear lie when you read other reviews and I had multiple people contact me sayin they had the same experience as me and were looking to build a court case against dr lee. We took out older pit mix rescue here recently and they treated him with with care and respect and helped us make educated decisions about his declining health. After a year after our first good experience here. I'm happy to say that this clinic is still consistent in treating my pup and I well and with urgency. (My experience with VCA on central was not the same. It was 3 hour waits just for documents and closing out.) This VCA office got me in and out within 30 mins. They cared for my pet and I was able to leave her there for further evaluation and treatment. The office staff is very pleasant and professional to deal with. After the first visit, Dr. Lee earned my trust in caring for my pet. She gave me options for treatment and it was not pressured at all. If you need a veterinarian that does not take advantage of the situation and that does not charge for unnecessary treatment/vaccinations/prescriptions come to this Location On a side note, although there are a lot of bad reviews, please keep in mind that most people with good experiences do not normally post, unless it was bad. Every-time I come for an appointment, I'm usually met with basic customer service. Meaning, each time I have an appointment for our pets I usually wait in an office for about 10 min while they take my cats and then tell me "everything is fine". I start to ask questions about my concerns and I'm given short responses and hand me the bill. I really do wish the Vet gave the owners more time to speak, share their experiences, and address concern. I was initially going to rate the hospital a 2 star but I had a very good conversation with Laura in which turned my whole experience around here. Two days ago, I called the hospital due to finding fleas on my cat. I pay a 500 dollar service a year for my cat at VCA so I'm assuming I can call to get advice. Because of Laura's kindness and caring attitude, I actually felt like I wasn't wasting my time and money here. She spoke on the phone for more than 5 minutes! I can never get that much time with any of the vets at the office. She just seemed like she cared about what she did and knew what she was talking about. There was a scary accident between my big dog and my best friends little dog i was babysitting, and Cali answered my emergency call en route to her and anticipated our arrival. It was a terrifying experience but Cali really reassured me and made each visitor feel better about their pet they brought in. When it was busy, she multitasked very well and still took the time to reassure me and explain accidents happen. If you are considering this place as a primary vet for your animal, keep looking. I'm SURE you will find a place where the front desk is more professional and the doctor isn't trying to get every penny they can from you. Let me start off with saying these names: mystery front desk worker (you will see what I mean by that), Sasha- another person who works the front desk, and Dr. Belinda. Bare with me fellow animal owners. Started coming here when I got our Doberman/Doberman pincher puppy (that one is for you mystery front desk person) puppy. We came and everything was great. Staff and Dr. Voll (the vet we saw) were great. She answered all of our questions and did not make us feel rushed what-so-ever. Enrolled in the vca program which was pricey, but made sense to us. Came back for 2nd round of shots and again the staff and Dr. Voll were great again. Came in a 3rd time cause our dog had some urinary issues and we got Dr. Belinda, whom was not personable and seemed like she was in a rush, which is fine and not a deal breaker. Whatever. Anyways, she wanted to run all sorts of tests (which ive read on alot of other reviews about tacking on unnecessary things, but "I'm sure" they offer it cause they really feel your dog "needs" it), but thats neither here nor there. You decide if you want to do them, but our dog was fine without the meds we bought or the extra test we denied. Came in for our 3rd shots with Dr. Belinda; nothing crazy and was in and out. For our 4th visit, my husband came in cause our dog has been having diarrhea issues and the last couple fecal tests were negative. Once again saw Dr. Belinda and she told him almost 1000.00 worth of stuff she felt our dog needed, which again is your choice to do or not do. He ended up just getting the four meds and letting that be it. Later, while at home, I check the meds and one of them, ON THEIR SITE, said specifically to be cautious giving it to Doberman pinchers. Not Doberman pincher and other breeds, just Doberman pinchers. Of course I naturally called cause that worried me (and I remember reading a review about a dog dying from incorrect med dosage from there.) Which got me speaking with our mystery front desk woman. I tell her my concerns and she says she saw the website and how it says Doberman pinchers not Dobermans, to which I was confused and asked aren't they the same thing? She said no they are different breeds! Lol! Okay, whatever. She told me that Dr. Belinda was gone for the night and she would write a note (cause she understood my concerns) and have her call me the next day. I usually ALWAYS get the name of the person I'm speaking to in case there is a discrepancy or the note was not passed on and the Dr doesn't call me (which had happened maybe a week prior); I know who to refer back to. I call back like no more than 2 minutes later and Sasha answers and I just ask for the person I spoke to name and she puts me on hold to find out who it was and she comes back to say she isn't sure, but is there something she can help me with. I said no; I just need the name and don't mind waiting. At this point it seems like they were purposely not telling me. She puts me on hold again and comes back to say the 2 people it could be were on break and isn't sure who it was, so I asked for the 2 names and she let me know she would call me back with the specific name. I was very annoyed, but She guaranteed me she would call me back. She calls back and let me know the person I spoke to is uncomfortable with giving me her name! Lol!!!! I couldn't believe my ears! I mean how ridiculous and unprofessional is that? So at this point I'm pissed and asked if it is because she (a person who works with and around animals) was embarrassed for confidently telling me a Doberman/Doberman pinchers were different breeds? To which Sasha responded "no" and that a manager could call me tomorrow, which I was not cool with and asked to speak to a manager now, but of course there isn't one working lol I let her know I would wait for someone higher than her to whom she said was a nurse. She again puts me on hold to come back and tell me they're of course too busy and cant be interrupted. Now I have to come in and waste my time to talk to a manager, since there seems to be major incompetence talking with these "professionals" on the phone. Hope you enjoyed this novel of a review and I hope it helps you make your decision if not to go somewhere else completely, but to only meet with Dr. Voll. I will say that after I do talk to Dr. Belinda and she assures me the medicine she prescribed my dog (Doberman/Doberman pincher lol) is okay. It will just be preference. Dr Lee is HORRIBLE. My dog was taken there as his gums were pale and was not eating and drinking excessive water. The first thing out of her mouth was how much we're able to spend today. We walked out of there spending $320 paying for visit and pills. She felt gums were fine. When he got home he was worse and gums had become white. We rely on our vets to be experts not all about $$$$. The next day we had another vet place tell us he needs to go to emergency. We took him to CASE and they immediately did a scan. He was bleeding internally and only had 25% chance of life. We had to put him down as he was in pain. Had to pay $850 but got the great service and answers. read more

Honestly so disappointed. I initially took my pets here because of the low cost vaccine clinic and then just kept going but every time is a bigger disappointment. This time, my dog had an ear infection. They came back with a bill over $500 and didn't even try and talk about different treatment options. I made it very clear that we would only do the antibiotics and steroid to see how she does. They initially wanted to do a culture and tests etc. Fast forward to a week later, I get a text from one of the doctors saying that my dog was due for her follow up exam and 2nd dose of medication. So I make her another appointment only for them to ask me if I needed a refill on her medication. My response was "I don't know you tell me". Long story short, her ears were fine and she didn't need a 2nd round, instead they just wanted to charge me another $50 for an unnecessary exam.
